He recently served as Interim Vice-Chancellor at the University of Wollongong, following 12 years at La Trobe University, where he steered the institution through the challenges of COVID. John’s transformational leadership saw La Trobe’s global ranking soar from #350 in 2011 to #251 by 2023, alongside major improvements in academic, research, and financial performance. He has also advised both state and federal governments, serving as Chair of Universities Australia, the sector’s peak body. In 2020, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for his contributions to education. Now a Partner at KordaMentha, John helps education clients drive performance improvement.
