When the world speeds up, we choose to slow down. Our Advent journey opens in an unexpected place—Genesis 3—where a whispered lie fractures trust, shame rushes in, and humanity starts to hide. Yet even there, a seed of hope appears: a promise that an offspring will crush the serpent’s head. We sit with that promise and let it shape how we prepare for Christmas and how we live as people who await Christ’s return.

We walk through the reading of Genesis 3:1–15 and talk about Advent as more than candles and carols. It’s a posture of anticipation, a daily decision to listen for God’s voice over the noise, and a commitment to watchfulness that changes how we move through our days. We unpack the protoevangelium—the first gospel hint in Scripture—and connect the garden’s ache to the manger’s joy and the future restoration of all things. Along the way, we name the subtle ways distrust creeps in, how shame pushes us into hiding, and how grace calls us back into the light.

This is a short, steady invitation to breathe, reflect, and practice holy readiness. Expect clear Scripture reading, honest encouragement, and a simple path to begin the next 25 days with intention. If you’ve been craving a quieter heart and a brighter hope, this series meets you right where you are—between Eden and eternity, waiting well for the One who came and the One who returns in glory.

Join us for Day 1 and share the journey with someone who needs hope. Subscribe, leave a rating or review, and send this episode to a friend so we can watch, pray, and stay renewed together.

Hey, welcome to Renewed Mindsets.
I'm Rick, and I'm so glad you'rehere.
Now, this is something special.
For the next 25 days, we'regonna slow down, we're gonna
quiet our hearts, and we'regonna turn our eyes towards
Jesus as we walk through Adventtogether.
Now every day we'll take a fewminutes to breathe and reflect

(01:19):
and remember the hope that cameinto the world and the hope
that's coming again.
So, what exactly is Advent?
Advent simply means arrival orthe coming.
For Christians, it's a sacredseason of preparation, preparing

(01:41):
our hearts for two things.
It was for the first coming ofJesus, born in Bethlehem, the
light entering our darkness, andthe second coming of Jesus, when
he'll return in glory to restoreall things.
Advent isn't just candles andcarols, it's a daily posture of
anticipation and expectation andpreparation.

(02:05):
We look back with gratitude andwe look forward with urgency.
All right, we've got Ashton herewith us today.
She's gonna do day one, she maydo day two, she may do day
three.
Who knows?
Ashton, how are you today?

SPEAKER_00 (02:24):
I'm great, Rick.
How are you?

SPEAKER_01 (02:26):
Good, good.
I'm so glad that you um yousuggested this.
I'd thought about doing it anddidn't really have any
motivation to do it, and then Isaw you put it on the church
page, and I said, Well, I guessnow I know I have to.
That was my second witness.

SPEAKER_00 (02:38):
Confirmation.

SPEAKER_01 (02:39):
All right.
Well, if you want to go aheadand start us off, let's go.
Sure.
We're in Genesis chapter three, verses one through fifteen.

SPEAKER_00 (02:47):
The man and woman sin.
The serpent was the shrewdest ofall the wild animals the Lord
God had made.
One day he asked the woman, DidGod really say you must not eat
the fruit from any of the treesin the garden?
Of course we may eat fruit fromthe trees in the garden, the
woman replied.
It's only the fruit from thetree in the middle of the garden

(03:09):
that we are not allowed to eat.
God said, You must not eat it oreven touch it.
If you do, you will die.
You won't die, the serpentreplied to the woman.
God knows that your eyes will beopened, and as soon as you eat
it, you will be like God,knowing both good and evil.
The woman was convinced.

(03:30):
She saw the tree was beautifuland its fruit looked delicious.
She wanted the wisdom it wouldgive her.
So she took some of the fruitand ate it.
Then she gave some to herhusband, who was with her, and
he ate it too.
At that moment, their eyes wereopened, and they suddenly felt
shame at their nakedness.
So they sewed fig leavestogether to cover themselves.

(03:53):
When the cool evening breezeswere blowing, the man and his
wife heard the Lord God walkingabout in the garden.
So they hid from the Lord Godamong the trees.
Then the Lord God called to theman, Where are you?
He replied, I heard you walkingin the garden, so I hid.
I was afraid because I wasnaked.

(04:15):
Who told you you were naked?
The Lord God asked, Have youeaten from the tree whose fruit
I commanded you not to eat?
The man replied, It was thewoman you gave me who gave me
the fruit and I ate it.
Then the Lord God asked thewoman, What have you done?
The serpent deceived me, shereplied, That's why I ate it.

(04:37):
Then the Lord God said to theserpent, Because you have done
this, you are cursed more thanall animals, domestic and wild.
You will crawl on your belly, groveling in the dust as long as
you live, and I will causehostility between you and the
woman, and between youroffspring and her offspring.
He will strike your head, andyou will strike his heel.
