The doorbell rings, the porch glows orange, and culture says “lighten up.” We refuse to rename darkness. Rick and Lauren take us straight into the tension many believers feel around Halloween: warm memories and social pressure on one side, the clarity of Scripture on the other. With Ephesians 5:11 as our anchor, we trace the roots of Samhain, the attempted religious rebrand, and why labels can’t sanctify practices God calls detestable.

We move from history to the heart, exposing how fear, death, and the occult get normalized through billion-dollar industries and “harmless fun.” From haunted houses to horror films, from crystals to sage and astrology, the enemy exploits curiosity and comfort. You’ll hear honest testimonies of desensitization, the quiet cost of compromise, and the liberating difference between apology and repentance. Acts 19 gives a blueprint for freedom: don’t store the darkness for special occasions—burn it, close the doors, and make room for the presence of God.

This is a wake-up call, not a pile-on. We offer practical steps to lead your home with courage: cancel the party, remove the decor, teach your children why, and choose holiness over nostalgia. A corporate prayer of renunciation and a powerful Scripture reading help you reclaim spiritual ground and stand under the authority of Jesus, the One who exposes darkness and destroys the works of the devil. If you’re ready to trade cultural permission for kingdom conviction, this conversation will steady your mind and strengthen your resolve.

If this spoke to you, share it with a friend, subscribe for more uncompromising biblical truth, and leave a review to help others find the show. Your home can shine. Let’s choose light together.

SPEAKER_01 (00:05):
Imagine this.
A believer stands inside hishome.
He's praying for God totransform his life.
He's been sensing a tug from theHoly Spirit, a deeper hunger for
righteousness.
It's been stirring inside him.
Yet he feels spiritual pressureall around him tonight.

(00:28):
Something heavy, something cold.
The world outside has chosenthis night to glorify darkness,
to laugh at death, to findpleasure in the things that God
hates.
It feels like a joke to them.
It is certainly not a joke tothe devil.

(00:48):
Demons do not need fullpermission.
They only need access.
On this night, access iseverywhere.
Fear is celebrated.
The occult is normalized.
Spiritual guards are lowered.
Curiosity is allowed to roamunchecked.

(01:10):
What he cannot see is what'sgathering around his home.
The enemy doesn't play fair.
Demonic spirits are watching, waiting, hoping someone inside
the home opens a door.
They are legalists.
If they find the smallestagreement with their kingdom,

(01:31):
they can lay claim to influence.
Heaven and hell are payingattention tonight.
As the doorbell rings, thebeliever hesitates.
Something in his spirit says, becareful.
Do not let darkness in.
Even wrapped in cuteness andcandy.

(01:52):
But the enemy whispers thatresisting makes him strange,
dramatic, legalistic.
The world says lighten up.
God says wake up.
This is warfare, notimagination, not superstition.
Spiritual warfare is the realitybelievers step into every day.

(02:17):
Today is no exception.
It is a highlight.
Let's go, boys.
Hey, welcome to RenewedMindsets.
I'm Rick, and I'm so glad you'rehere.

(02:38):
Thank you for joining me for avery important episode.
This content matters becauseyour spiritual life matters,
your household matters, yourchildren's future matters.
Your witness in these last daysmatters.
Halloween is a culturalcelebration boldly rooted in the

(02:59):
kingdom of darkness.
With me is Lauren King, who hasher own insight into this night,
well, this season of evil.
We're not softening that truth.
We're confronting it withscripture and with spiritual
clarity.

SPEAKER_00 (03:18):
Hey, I'm Lauren, and I'm very glad to be here with
y'all today.
We are co-teaching this becausebelievers need two voices of
boldness right now.
We want to guide you throughthis topic with compassion for
people and absolute intolerancefor darkness.
All through scripture, God drawsa line between what belongs to
him and what belongs to Satan.

(03:38):
The devil constantly works toblur that line.

SPEAKER_01 (03:41):
Right.
So our anchored text todayspeaks to that.
It's Ephesians 5 11.
Take no part in the worthlessdeeds of evil and darkness.
Instead, expose them.
Did you hear that?
Not tolerate them, not sanitizethem, not rename them, but

(04:02):
expose them.

SPEAKER_00 (04:04):
Exactly.
And if God calls somethingdarkness, his people cannot call
it harmless.

SPEAKER_01 (04:15):
So Halloween didn't originate in America.
Did you know that, Lauren?

SPEAKER_00 (04:20):
I didn't.

SPEAKER_01 (04:22):
You didn't?
Well, it didn't.
It did not come from candycompanies.
It didn't begin as childrendressing like firemen or a
princess.
The roots go back to ancientCeltic paganism, centered around
the festival called Sawin.
Now it's spelled Sam HainS-A-M-H-I-N, but it's pronounced

(04:43):
Sawin in case you want to lookit up.
Now they believed on this nightthe dead roamed the earth.
Spirits wandered freely, andthey did it to keep spirits
away.
People carved frightening imagesinto vegetables.
That sentence sounds reallyweird.
They carved images intovegetables, but that practice

(05:04):
the practice later became knownas the jack-o'-lantern.

SPEAKER_00 (05:08):
And they also believed demons could take any
human form.
Like they wore animal skins andmasks to confuse these spirits.
This tradition evolved intocostumes, like the ones you see,
witches and little devils, stufflike that.

SPEAKER_01 (05:25):
Fairies.

SPEAKER_00 (05:26):
Fairies, yes.
And fires were lit to ward offevil, and offerings were made to
appease the ghosts.
Crazy.
Divination practices such ascommunicating with spirits and
telling fortunes were actuallyvery common and still are.
Now, none of this is spirituallyneutral.

(05:47):
It was rooted in fear andsuperstition, not God.

SPEAKER_01 (05:51):
Right.
When the Roman Catholic Churchattempted to Christianize pagan
practices, they just attachednew names to it.
They called it All Hollows Eve,All Saints Day, All Souls Day.
This was not a cleansing, it wasa blending.
And whenever the church blendswith the world, the church

(06:13):
loses.

SPEAKER_00 (06:14):
Yes, it does.
And a new label does notsanctify a dark root.
God never called his people tothe Say that again.
Okay.
A new label does not sanctify adark root.

SPEAKER_01 (06:25):
That's good.

SPEAKER_00 (06:26):
And God never called his people to redeem pagan
rituals, he called them toabsolutely destroy them.
All right, now the word of Godis not vague about spiritual
practices tied to death and theoccult.
Scripture actually repeatedlywarns against everything

(06:49):
Halloween stands for.
Like in Deuteronomy 18, 9through 12, God specifically
prohibits fortune telling,witchcraft, interpreting omens,
casting spells, mediumship, andspeaking to the dead.
So your Ouija boards and allthat.
God does not say these thingsare pretend.

(07:11):
He does not say they areharmless.
He calls them detestable.

SPEAKER_01 (07:15):
Detestable.

SPEAKER_00 (07:17):
Yes.

SPEAKER_01 (07:18):
The Bible teaches us that the dead do not roam the
earth.
If a supernatural manifestationappears to you, claiming to be a
dead person, scriptureidentifies that as a demon.
Halloween is built entirely uponhonoring and entertaining that
very deception.
Isaiah 8.19 says that whenpeople tell you to consult

(07:40):
mediums and spirits, you shouldnot listen because they whisper
lies.
Now most of us, most of usreally have fun memories of
Halloween from our childhood.

SPEAKER_00 (07:51):
That's true.

SPEAKER_01 (07:52):
But God has spoken clearly.
Darkness does not become safe bycalling it nostalgia.

SPEAKER_00 (08:01):
That's exactly right.
And Romans 12 2 commandsbelievers to stop conforming to
the patterns of this world.
Halloween is one of thestrongest patterns of darkness
that the world celebratesannually.
Holiness requires a choice.

SPEAKER_01 (08:24):
The enemy's greatest weapon is not violence, it's
deception.
He deceives throughnormalization, through comfort,
through tradition, through thephrase, well, I don't see the
harm in it.
If Satan can get Christians tostop noticing darkness, he's
already won half the battle.

SPEAKER_00 (08:45):
Yes.
And today, Halloween is amulti-billion dollar industry.
The darker the imagery, the morepopular it becomes.
It's like people weirdly findcomfort in evil.
Yeah, that should not be dark.
Haunted houses depict tortureand human suffering.
Movies glorify demonicpossession, and children learn

(09:06):
horror as entertainment and fun.
That's actually very sick.
Satan uses the imagination as agateway.
Terror becomes a thrill.
Like people really get a funthrill out of being scared.
Some people love to be scared.
I don't.
Sin becomes a joke, and thedemonic becomes entertainment.

SPEAKER_01 (09:28):
That's the deception.
When darkness becomes fun, righteousness becomes boring.

SPEAKER_00 (09:43):
So this would be your new age mess.
Like young people are drawn tocrystals, sage cleansing,
astrology, like all the zodiacsigns, and rituals that the
Bible condemns.
Wicca is one of the fastestgrowing religions in the West.
And people proudly identify aswitches.
Entire stores profit from spellsand spirit contracts.

(10:06):
Halloween emboldens thisculture.

SPEAKER_01 (10:09):
Yeah, you know, I know a woman that I mean, I've
known her for years.
And if you go to her Facebookpage, she's constantly singing
gospel songs and talking aboutJesus.
And then the next post later, she's talking about how she got
home and felt a little uneasyand burned some sage, and now

(10:30):
everything's good.
And I'm like, I don't even knowwhat to say to her at this
point, you know?

SPEAKER_00 (10:35):
Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01 (10:36):
Well, Acts 19 describes new believers burning
their occult materials in apublic bonfire after they
encountered the power of Jesus.
Now they didn't store them in acloset and bring them out once a
year, they burned them and gotrid of them.
If believers today kept thatsame fire, Halloween would
collapse.

SPEAKER_00 (10:57):
Exactly.
And in 2 Corinthians 6 17, itsays, Come out from among them
and be separate, says the Lord.
Separation is a command.
It's not an option, and it'sdefinitely not a lifestyle
suggestion.

SPEAKER_01 (11:16):
The enemy specializes in entry points.
Exposure to darkness trains themind to accept the darkness
later.
A playful fascination withhorror can become a lifelong
struggle with anxiety, sleepparalysis, demonic oppression,
intrusive thoughts.

(11:37):
Satan knows that if he can plantseeds in childhood, he can
harvest them in adulthood.

SPEAKER_00 (11:44):
And I can speak from experience on that, Rick.
Um my younger years were filledwith watching scary movies and
liking horror stuff, and itdefinitely opens up doors to a
lot of things, and people don'trealize it until it's sometimes
too late.

SPEAKER_01 (12:00):
I didn't watch scary movies when I was a kid because
I was too scared.
But when I got to be a youngadult, I really started watching
them.
Maybe young adult, maybe 16.
I think that was when Nightmarein Elm Street came out when I
was 16, and that kind of starteda whole new thing that lasted
probably 15 or 20 years.

(12:20):
What's weird is pushing 60 now,I can sit down and watch a scary
movie if it was on.
I can't spiritually watch itanymore.
Because it doesn't feel right, but I'd been so conditioned for
so long that it I have to forcemyself into think into knowing

(12:42):
that it's not right because it'sso normal, it became such a
normal thing.
And going to haunted houses, I Itook my my daughter to haunted
houses, took her friends tohaunted houses.
This isn't that long ago.

SPEAKER_00 (12:57):
I was peer pressured into going to a haunted house.
I did not want to go, but what'scrazy is I was allowed to watch
scary movies as a kid because Ihad a mother who liked them.
I know.
So every compromise sends amessage to the next generation.
Children learn what wecelebrate.
If Christians celebrate theculture of death one night a

(13:19):
year, they are unintentionallydiscipling their children to
make peace with the devil'sfavorite weapons.
Fear, death, witchcraft, spirits, these are not
decorations.
They are an agenda.

SPEAKER_01 (13:31):
Yes, they are.

SPEAKER_00 (14:08):
They were called strange and they were hated,
they were persecuted, yet theirloyalty to Jesus is what made
Christianity unstoppable.
Holiness has always been costly, but it has never been optional.
Wow.

SPEAKER_01 (14:22):
Ephesians 5 says, We were once darkness, but now we
are light in the Lord.
Our identity must shape ourbehavior, not the season.

SPEAKER_00 (14:33):
Yes.
Now I want you to really hear mehere.
If you have participated inHalloween, do not hide in shame.
God is patient and merciful.
He reveals truth so we can walkin freedom.
Repentance is a gift and it isthe doorway to power.

(14:57):
Repentance is not saying sorry.
Repentance is choosing a newallegiance.

SPEAKER_01 (15:02):
Yeah, Revelation 8, um, eight, I think it's 18.
Sorry, Revelation 18, 4 says,Come out of Babylon, my people,
so you will not share in hersins.
Now that's a command for today'schurch.
The closer we get to the returnof Christ, the more urgent
separation becomes.

(15:22):
Now, tonight or today, orwhenever you're listening to it,
it's a turning point.
It's the moment to reclaimspiritual ground and shut every
door to the devil.
Faith without action is onlyopinion.

SPEAKER_00 (15:39):
Yeah, cancel the party.
Remove the decor, teach yourchildren why, and give the devil
nothing to exploit.
A cleansed home hosts thepresence of God.

SPEAKER_01 (15:50):
Pray with us.
Father God, we choose yourkingdom over every shadow.
We renounce every compromisewith darkness.
We reject the lies of the enemy.
Father, cleanse us from everyinfluence that has worked
against your will.
Lord, purify our homes, purifyour imagination, purify our

(16:15):
traditions.
We make a stand tonight, notbecause we're perfect, but
because you're holy.

SPEAKER_00 (16:26):
Lord, open our spiritual eyes, give us courage
to be set apart, give usdiscernment to recognize the
schemes of the enemy, and letyour light expose every hidden
work of darkness.
We stand under the authority ofJesus Christ, the only one with
the power to defeat death anddestroy the works of the devil.

SPEAKER_01 (16:45):
Amen.
Tonight we declare our homesbelong to Jesus.
Our families belong to Jesus.
Our hearts belong to Jesus.
Our future belongs to Jesus.
Darkness has no place here.
We will take no part.

(17:06):
We will expose it.
Thank you for joining us forthis Halloween wake-up call.
Stay awake, stay holy, stayready.
The king is coming soon.

SPEAKER_00 (17:27):
Before we close today, I want the word of God to
wash over our hearts and anchoreverything we've discussed in
truth.
Ephesians 5 11 says, take nopart in the worthless deeds of
evil and darkness, insteadexpose them.
Romans 12.2 is do not copy thebehavior and customs of this
world, but let God transform youinto a new person by changing

(17:49):
the way you think.
2 Corinthians 6.14.
How can righteousness be apartner with wickedness?
How can light live withdarkness?
James 4 7.
So humble yourselves before God.
Resist the devil, and he willflee from you.
Galatians 5 19 through 21.

(18:09):
The acts of the sinful natureare obvious.
Sorcery is listed among them.
Those who practice such thingswill not inherit the kingdom of
God.
He prowls around like a roaringlion, looking for someone to
devour.
1 Thessalonians 5, 5 through 6.

(18:31):
For you are all children of thelight and of the day.
So be on your guard, not asleeplike the others.
Isaiah 5.20.
Woe to those who call evil goodand good evil.
Deuteronomy 18, 10 through 12.
God forbids any form ofwitchcraft, fortune telling, or

(18:52):
contact with spirits of thedead, calling these practices
detestable.
2 Corinthians 10, 4 through 5.
The weapons we fight with arenot carnal.
They have divine power todemolish strongholds.
We take captive every thought tomake it obedient to Christ.
Now these scriptures are notsuggestions, they are

(19:12):
invitations into freedom andholiness.
God is calling his people tostand apart from the darkness of
the world.
He's calling us to shine.
Remember who you are, rememberwho you represent, walk as
children of the light.
Thank you for listening to thisbonus reading.
Rick and I love you so much.
We are praying for you and keepyour mind renewed in the Word of

(19:35):
God.
Jesus is coming soon.

SPEAKER_01 (19:38):
One last thing for you today.
I want to thank you forlistening.
None of this that's been sharedwas done to spoil anybody's fun
or to act like the moral police.
It's been spoken in love.
These are the days of our lives.
No, sorry.
It took me back to summerswatching soap operas with my

(20:01):
grandmother.
These are the days when darknessis celebrated without a second
thought, and holiness is mockedas old fashioned.
We don't have the luxury oftreating even one night like the
spiritual realm is a joke.
This is life and death.
These are the end times.
Renewed minds have to stay awakewhile the world sleeps.

(20:25):
Followers of Jesus must choosethe narrow way when the broad
road looks exciting andharmless.
Now, my prayer for you is thattoday, tonight, and every night
we stand on the side of the onewho defeated death itself.
Let your home be a place oflight.
Let your choices reflect loyaltyto the kingdom that cannot be

(20:49):
shaken.
