Check out this fascinating and informative conversation with integrative mind-body practitioner, educator and psilocybin facilitator Jen Bruce. With decades of personal experience in this field of study, Jen helps people with trauma, addiction and mental illness using a holistic approach with nutrition, detox, plant medicine and nervous system regulation and mapping.

In this conversation, Jen explains how the gut and brain microbiome are integrally connected to mental health and her experience specializing in helping people get off of addictive pharmaceutical drugs prescribed for depression, anxiety and psychosis using a holistic approach.

As more and more people are seeking solutions and alternatives from the medications that often cause side effects of the very conditions they are meant to treat, the exploration of clinical and spiritual-community led efforts to support people with variety of conditions with plant medicine has boomed in the United States. This has brought up so many ethical and safety concerns, some of which we touch upon in this podcast episode.

How can people prepare for and integrate psychedelic plant medicine experiences (including psilocybin, ibogaine, iboga or ayahuasca)? What are the differences between taking larger doses versus microdosing? What is neuroplasticity and how does it effect one’s ability to create new habits and release old ones?

While many of these hot topics are in their early stages of research and deeper understanding, Jen shares an important perspective that moves out of the Western belief in mental conditions strictly being a result of chemical brain imbalances and considers the whole person and each person’s unique challenges and abilities to move past trauma and addiction.
