In this episode we discuss the challenges and rewards of parenting during medical training with special guests Dr. Yaa Asare, Dr. Kira Grush, & Dr. Kyle McDaniel.

Yaa Asare is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician (2024) who trained at the University of Colorado. She is currently a fellow in the University of Colorado Hospice and Palliative Medicine Program. Her professional goals are to practice both primary care and Palliative Medicine. She is a native of Ghana, though has lived in the Denver area for 20 years. She enjoys exploring spicy cuisines and taking long walks with her husband, daughter, and dog.

Kira Grush, MD, MA (she/her/hers) is a Chief Medical Resident at the University of Colorado Internal Medicine Residency Program. She is originally from Boulder, Colorado and remains a “forever Coloradan,” having received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Colorado College and her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and MD from the University of Colorado. She comes to medicine after a career in K-12 education where she served as a middle school English teacher and, later, Dean of Students in the Cole neighborhood of Denver. She plans to pursue fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine with the long-term goal of developing curriculum around critical care and health equity. Outside of work, Kira spends her time with her husband, Kyle, who is a hospitalist at the University of Colorado Hospital, and their 16-month-old son, Nolan, who has quickly become their whole world. Together, they enjoy playing board games, traveling, watching the Rockies (lose), and spending time outside.

Kyle McDaniel, MD, is a hospitalist and instructor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical campus, where he earned his MD and did internal medicine residency.
