There are times in business and in life where God will tell us to be quiet. He will tell us to shut up. Here's my thoughts on it.

1. Zacharias Enters the Temple (Luke 1:5-11)

  • God spoke to him through the angel Gabriel while he was doing his normal duties. God often speaks to us when we are not expecting it.
  • God delivers the unexpected during the most unexpected times.
  • There was no warning.

2. The Promise (Luke 1:12-17)

  • The unexpected can be unbelievable.
  • The promises may not always line up with what we believe.

3. The Unbelief (Luke 1:18)

  • The unexpectant can be filled with disbelief
  • Zacharias was old. Elizabeth was old. She was barren. There was no physical way for it to be possible.

4. The deafening Silence (Luke 19-56)

  • The practice of prudence should be implemented.
  • The need to recognize that there are power of words
  • There is power of life and death in our words.
  • The words we say can abort or build a firm foundation for the promise.

5. The mute speaks (Luke 1:57-66)

  • Zacharias was silenced throughout the pregnancy of John the Baptist.
  • The people around him had plans for the baby. They had ideas and thoughts.
  • They wanted to name the baby after his father. Zacharias knew what he was told. The baby would be named John.
  • The naming of the baby made absolutely no sense. Others feel the same way about your dream/vision.
  • It went against the grain. God's ways are not our ways; His thoughts are not our thoughts. Hence the reason that Zacharias needed to be silenced.

Bottom line: God doesn't do things the way we think it should be done. Jesus was born in a stable. John was born to a barren woman. The world was created even though God knew that man would fall. God is not surprised by the dreams you have, and you should not be surprised that He may have you silenced for a season to keep you from killing your own dream.
