As I head past my 2nd anniversary for Revolutions Per Movie, what would be more appropriate than my first-ever Revolutions Per Movie live show back in 2023 with the one and only Peter Buck of R.E.M.!!! Two magical things kicked off before we even got on stage: 1) Peter bought everyone's food and drink for anyone who walked out of REMbyMTV and went to the snack bar, and 2) Peter asked if I could get the audience to sing the Darth Vader theme song as he walked to the stage (because of the cape he was wearing). This week’s episode was recorded in front of a live audience on Dec. 5th, 2023, at Cinema 21 in Portland, Oregon. Peter Buck of R.E.M. joined us to discuss the documentary R.E.M. by MTV, his early years devouring music, moving to Athens, his first impressions of his bandmates, the surprises of seeing Michael grow as a performer, their relationship with the press, answering fan mail (including Chris reading a letter written to the band in 1984), what influenced songs like Harbourcoat, Michael’s approach to Man On The Moon and so much more.
