The weekly sermon podcast from Richfield Community Church in Yorba Linda, California. Hear from pastors Chris Ward, Brian Betts, Keith Gove and Jonny Burns. Updated weekly on Mondays.
This week's Parable is The Persistent Widow (Luke 18:1-8). The title character in this story can come off a little overbearing. However, her passion and persistence to be heard give us a glimpse into God's hope for our prayer lives.

How many times are we expected to forgive? Seven times? That seems very generous. Peter thought so, too! This week we are looking at Jesus' parable about the unforgiving servant. Not only was Jesus' teaching not what Peter expected, but it is often uncomfortable for us as well. How does it work? What about consequences? Come this Sunday as we look into Jesus' teaching about life and forgiveness in the Kingdom of God. ...
This week as we continue looking at Parables, we’re looking at the “Laborers in the Vineyard” as captured by Matthew (Matthew 20:1-16). Every parable tells us something about who God is as well as something about ourselves, so what does Jesus want us to understand by talking about hard work and earning our pay?

This first Sunday of the series, we will be looking at the parable of the sower (Luke 8:1-8, 11-15). Jesus tells His disciples, and us, the seed is the Word of God. As we will see, there is nothing more important than receiving that Word well and sharing it generously!

This week we complete our journey through Micah as we look at all of Chapter 7. How does Micah wrap up this prophecy to God’s people? With a clear view of what it looks like to live out your faith.
This week, in Micah 6 (1-16), Micah reminds us of God’s faithfulness. No matter the plans of man, God’s promises are always fulfilled. In light of this, Micah wants us to understand what is expected of people who belong to a God who is in total control and working for their good. What exactly is that?
Join us as we look at how the book of Micah calls us to honor God.

As we continue in Micah 5 (5b-15), God makes no mistake in His declaration of His victory to come over idols. How are we to process the clear, powerful assertion of the importance of removing the things that distract us from the glory of God?
Join us as we ponder and refocus our lives in light of past and present struggles with idols.June 1, 2025 | Micah 5:5b-15 | Jonny Burns
So far in Micah, God has tasked him with challenging God’s people to understand how they have turned their backs on God’s offer to love and protect them. And as he reminds them, there will be pain before they can understand this joyful relief (Micah 5:1-5a). What is the joyful relief? In Micah 5:2, he points to Jesus – the one to come who will save them from themselves.

In Micah 4:9-13, we see God's people challenged to look past the immediate pain and understand that it is for their good. Let’s be honest, no one really wants to hear that they are going to suffer. However, when we look at our circumstances, in faith, and realize that God is offering to draw us closer to Him in the pain, it changes how we hope, doesn’t it?May 18, 2025 | Micah 4:9-13 | Chris Ward
This Sunday, we'll celebrate moms by looking at how God desires us to interact with our parents. Join us for "Honor Your Mother and Father" through the lens of Matthew 15:1-6 and 1 Timothy 5:3-4, 8.
After a strong focus on the seriousness of sin, Micah shifts to seeing God for who He is (Micah 4:1-8). This can draw out different responses when we are forced to contemplate the judgment of God. How do we, on this side of the cross, react when we are presented with the magnitude of who He is? Join us as we look at the difference in responding to this reality in faith or in fear.May 4, 2025 | Micah 4:1-8 | Chris Ward
This Sunday, in Micah 3 (1-12), Micah focuses on leadership, not just how they act but how we respond to them. How should we as Christians see ourselves if we are leaders? How should we see ourselves as those who are subject to leaders (Christian or not)?
Join us this Sunday as we talk about the impact leadership has on all of us.

Micah continues to call out Judah and Israel as God has called him to do. This week, in chapter 2, Micah calls out their EVIL thoughts and actions. That’s right, evil (it’s a strong word). What are they doing that earns this description and how can we, as Christians, understand and act toward these evils?Join us as, together, we look to be the light in a dark world, in the way that God intended.

This Sunday, in Micah 1:6-16, things don’t look too good for Israel and Judah. That’s probably an understatement as they are now worshiping things other than God. And God, who has protected and cared for His people, wants them to know this isn’t a good move. What do we have in common with these people?

We are kicking off our series in Micah this week with an overview and verses 1-5. How does Micah's prophecy begin to the people of Israel and Judah?March 30, 2025 | Micah 1:1-5 | Chris Ward
Before we start Micah together on 3/30, we going to take a week to pause and think about what it’s like to be the church. In Hebrews 3:12-14, the author encourages us to not turn away from God and gives a picture of how we support one another in that. What does it look like to “exhort one another every day”?

It’s our final week in 1 Peter (1 Peter 5:10-14). As Peter closes out his letter, dedicated to his readers who have been facing tough times, he reminds them to have confidence in what God is doing in their lives. And, in that confidence he gives them two words to focus their emotions. What are they?Join us as we get encouraged to do the same, so that no matter what, our lives will reflect God’s glory to the world.
