HUMOR, HUSTLES & HOOKUPS
What happens when a womanizer swipes right on the wrong woman? In Clarence Williams IV’s “Bite Me,” the consequences are bloody — and deeply human.
In this lively RFN Podcast interview, filmmaker Clarence Williams IV talks about his short comedic horror film "Bite Me," screening at RFN Indie Fest on August 9. Though wrapped in vampire fangs and dating-app hijinks, Williams insists the story is ultimately about karma, dishonesty, and the dangers of taking people — particularly women — for granted. He credits his creative productivity to a tight-knit team led by his wife and frequent collaborator, writer and casting director Christina Araujo Williams, and discusses how "Bite Me" pushed him outside his comfort zone into vampire territory.
Shot in one intense day and finished in under a month (with animated gore bookending the live-action), the 10-minute short builds slow-burn suspense through character and chemistry rather than shock. Williams sees the film as part of his mission to universalize Black stories by casting people of color in lead roles without making race the plot. He hopes "Bite Me" leaves audiences laughing, squirming — and wishing it were a feature.
