What happens when you have nowhere to pee during a 4 a.m. training run? Which runDisney half marathon truly delivers the best experience? And does anyone actually know how to change a flat tire without calling AAA? This packed episode delivers answers to these burning questions and many more as we dive into our listener mailbag.
The debate gets heated when discussing whether Wine and Dine or Marathon Weekend offers the superior half marathon experience. Some hosts champion the festival atmosphere and after-party of Wine and Dine, while others can't deny the magic of running through Cinderella Castle during Marathon Weekend. For first-time marathoners, we offer tailored advice on choosing races that accommodate back-of-pack runners, with unanimous agreement that Disney provides one of the most supportive environments for debut distances.
We tackle the very real issue of imposter syndrome in running, sharing personal experiences of feeling out of place on the course. Whether it's being the only interval runner among continuous runners or questioning if you belong in a race at all, our conversation provides reassurance that your running journey is uniquely yours—and equally valid.
Disney Vacation Club members in our crew offer insider advice on securing rooms during race weekends, revealing the crucial difference between 11-month and 7-month booking windows and why "buy where you want to stay" remains the golden rule. For Disneyland runners, we highlight key differences from Disney World races, from sound ordinances to bag check logistics.
Between serious running topics, we detour into delightfully divisive debates about whether the chocolate toppings on ice cream are properly called "jimmies" or "sprinkles," confess our favorite ice cream flavors, and share hilariously desperate tales of bathroom emergencies during training runs.
Join us for this journey through running wisdom, Disney insights, and the everyday moments that connect us as a community of runners. Whatever your pace, distance, or running style—you're home here.

The Rise and Run
podcast is sponsored by our
friends over at Magic BoundTravel.
I learned this week throughfriends and social media that
that other theme park down downthe street from Disney you know
the one I'm not allowed tomention it's pretty epic
apparently they do this eventaround my least favorite holiday
(04:35):
of Halloween, where people paymoney to get the crap scared out
of them for some reason.
so if you're interested in thatspecialty ticketed event at that
other theme park down thestreet, our friends over at
magic bound travel candefinitely get you booked for a
(04:55):
vacation.
Stay there.
And I'll make this one lastpush and reminder If you are
interested in attending the Riseand Run Cruise in April of 2026
, following Springtime Surprise, and you are interested in a
discounted interior stateroom onthe Utopia of the Seas, you
only have a few days left inorder to grab one of those.
(05:18):
Those are being released backto Royal Caribbean this upcoming
Sunday.
So if you're interested in that, be sure to visit
magicboundtravelcom.
And now to training.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
Training this week
for Disneyland Halloween races.
The long run is six and a halfmiles for both the half marathon
and the chills and thrillschallenge.
Speaking of training, do any ofyou all have any training
updates?
Speaker 4 (05:47):
yeah, so, um, I'm
back with tom and I started back
up on sunday and my wholebody's sore.
It's still sore from sunday.
And then I had another gym daytoday.
I'm like I didn't realize that.
I guess I've just been notdoing gym stuff very much lately
(06:08):
, so I like the feeling of beingsore, but I also don't walk
right right now, so it just getsfunny going up the stairs.
Yeah, that feeling.
Well, so I did one of theworkouts technically wrong.
I read the number wrong and soit was like these squats with
like the weights and everything, and I thought it said 20.
(06:30):
And so I have five sets of them, so five sets of 20.
I go back after I finish allfive sets and I said five sets
of six.
Oh my gosh, and so my thighs arejust but I did all 20 of them.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Is this your
equivalent of not looking at an
elevation map?
But for weight training?
Speaker 5 (06:49):
Yes, she pulled a
jack.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Okay, I am so glad
that pulling a jack can now be
used in multiple references inmultiple training sports.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Thank God she didn't
get the weight wrong, oh gosh,
no, I like that.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
that would be smart.
I mean, if I picked up thewrong thing, I could just put it
back down, be like no, that'snot the right way and just keep
on moving, keep on trucking, butuh tom says I gotta lift it
this way.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
I'm lifting this way
anybody else well, we'll talk
about my training later on inthe race report.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Ooh, I like that A
nice strong tease out of John.
You've been doing thispodcasting thing for a while, so
you know how to do that.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
We just started it.
We just started it last week, right?
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, exactly, all
right.
Well, thankfully, for thesecond week in a row Run, disney
has graced us with news and, ladies and gentlemen, we now
have the medal reveal for thesecond annual and who knows when
.
The next one will be DisneylandHalloween Half Marathon Weekend
(08:00):
out in Disneyland this upcomingSeptember were released.
Bob's not here, so I'll just goout of the way and say they're
nice, but what are the rest ofmy wonderful co-hosts?
Speaker 3 (08:14):
think about these
medals that's a Lexi race
weekend written all over itreally is, and I'm so upset that
I'm not gonna get thatMaleficent medal because she's
beautiful, Mm-hmm.
And the Cruella medal isbeautiful, but I feel like and
correct me if I'm wrong theUrsula medal.
I feel like we've seen thatbefore.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Lexi, I had the exact
same thought when I saw the
medal Right, but then I can'tremember whose Instagram stories
.
But then I can't remember whoseInstagram stories.
You know, I think it wasAmanda's over at Once Upon a
Marathon, and she actually had aphoto of the Ursula medal from
(08:57):
whatever that.
I think it was when we came outof.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
COVID.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
It was a wine and
dine.
It was wine and dine.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Somehow they were
like wickedly delicious, or
something like that.
But when I saw that photo ofthat medal I was like, okay, no,
these are two completelydifferent medals.
But no, my mind went to theexact same place.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
So I'm glad I'm not
the only one.
If you want to check out theold medals, go to our friend
Matt's website, team Run Disney.
He's got all the old medals.
Go to, uh, our friend uh matt'swebsite, team run disney.
He's got all the old medalsthere.
But I I still kind of thinkthat corella corella medals a
little morbid.
Are those dog bones from dogsor for dogs to defeat?
Speaker 1 (09:36):
I didn't even think
about that john, why are you
going to such a dark?
Speaker 2 (09:40):
place.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
She's got to make her
outfit oh, that's, that's, oh,
that's so morbid it does look tome like they might be a
different type of metal, likethe actual like material that
it's made out of, or thepainting on them is different.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Maybe it won't chip
as much well, you know, it's
funny enough that you say that, because I'm scrolling through
them, uh, again right now andyou look at the metal for the
half.
So the maleficent one, the onethat lexi's really upset, that
she's not getting, and there isa part of her staff that is like
(10:23):
white yeah, where, like therest of it is black.
I'm like was that a designchoice?
Or did run disney take apromotional photo with a chipped
metal?
Speaker 5 (10:33):
I did notice that
greg right off the bat and I was
like, well, maybe they aregoing to chip.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
But wait for I'm
zooming in right now, greg.
Oh, you're right that is a chipthat is chipped or it's a bad
paint job, where it's the paintfrom the uh vines overlapping
the uh oh yeah, I see that ohokay, I I understand what you're
saying now yeah yeah
Speaker 4 (11:01):
that's interesting I
feel like disney wouldn't make a
mistake maybe it's somethingspecial that happens there,
maybe.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Yeah, I know that
there was a lot of speculation
online in terms of you know, doany of these medals do anything
special?
Because for some reason, withthe disneyland medals, I feel
like we don't get the instagramreel that accompanies, like the
walt disney world races, so soyou can at least see some of the
movement.
(11:28):
I mean, I would have to imagineI think that you know people
were saying that like thecruella metal, I think that
could be like on a spring andwhat's up with cruella's face?
yeah, it's giving me like liketwo-face vibes, yeah, like why
do they I mean, it's giving melike Batman like two face vibes.
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
I mean it's a shadow,
but I don't know.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
It looks kind of
weird, yeah, unless that was an
homage to like the Emma Stoneversion of the movies, the 10k
in that metal is going to moveand then it kind of looks like
the challenge metal.
The 10K in that metal is goingto move, okay.
And then it kind of looks likethe challenge metal.
If you look at Pain and Panic'seyes, they seem very muted
(12:12):
compared to the rest of themetal.
So I'm wondering if there islike some light up element.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
Like glass, oh, in
the dark.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
Oh, okay, yeah yeah,
yeah, very, very interesting.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
I think the
Maleficent one might open.
Does it look like it might open?
Speaker 1 (12:29):
I don't know but
unfortunately that's the thing
about halloween is that we haveno expos to be able to have a,
you know, a preview.
So it's these things will notbe on display until the expo in
september, so I'm sure plenty offriends will be out there to be
able to report back to us oncethey get them.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Very interesting.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
There's things that I
noticed, because even Ursula's
face, if you look at the artwork, she has a shadow on her left
side, and so I think it's justthey're doing a whole shadow
thing with all the characters.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
okay all right.
So we heard from lexi lexi'sfavorite medal, even though none
of us are running this raceweekend.
Lexi's favorite medal is thehalf.
Alicia, how about you?
Speaker 5 (13:16):
um, I think the
cruella okay, jack uh,
maleficent.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
No, yes, I was not
confident.
It's a toss-up, john.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
We don't really talk
about them much, but Captain
Hook on the kids' race.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Oh, yes, yes, yes.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
I mean he looks like
yep, I'm here, I'm ready, I'm
ready to go Some.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
Captain Morgan, run,
oh sorry, run, run, and I'm
going to go with a dark horse inthis race.
I really like the Ursula medal, even though, again, it reminded
me of something else from aprevious race weekend.
I think that's just.
It's super intricate withFlossum and Jetsam in there.
I thought that design wasreally, really cool.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
I want to change my
answer.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
You can.
You're not allowed, Lexi.
It's been recorded.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
It's a $20 fee to
change your answer.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Man.
But I really like the Pain andPanic medal too.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
Yeah, I like that one
too.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Because I'm scrolling
back and forth and looking at
all of them right now and I justcan't decide.
Villains are amazing.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Like I said, if
anyone is doing this race, bob
needs that 10K medal, and if youdon't want your medal, bob
needs that medal.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Oh, yes, because he
dressed up last year.
Okay, yeah, for the 5K.
Yeah, okay.
I'll get 60 now, but could youimagine all of these, um, you
know, boxes and envelopesshowing up at bob's house, and
metal after metal after metal.
Well, very cool, all right, sowe got.
So.
Last week we got princessthemes, we got medals now, so I
(15:02):
guess that means the next set ofnews.
What do you think we'll getnext?
Do you think we'll get wine anddine medals, or will we get a
springtime surprise themeannouncement?
What do we think?
I heard rumors of springtimesurprise, like the first week of
july, so okay, probably thatwell, actually we, we could
(15:28):
probably figure out becauselately their trend has been that
they released the themes twoweeks before club run disney uh
opens.
So let's see.
So springtime surpriseregistration for club run disney
is july 22nd.
(15:49):
So yeah, so yeah, that thatprobably lines up beginning of,
uh, beginning of july.
So, okay, fingers crossed there, all right.
Well, now we're going to move onto the main crux of this week's
episode and and I'm gonna behonest with you guys I don't
know if you feel the same Ithink these listener question
(16:10):
episodes are some of myfavorites, because we get such a
wide array of questions and, trust me, we got a wide array
for this one as well, too, aswell too, and I think it just
(16:30):
generates some really goodlogical information, but also a
ton of fun and, as you'll seewith some of these questions
could provide some very, veryfunny answers.
But we'll go with a morelogistical question to start,
and the first one that we'regoing to go with is from our
friend, stephanie, and she askswhat is your favorite run disney
(16:51):
half marathon?
It sounds like stephanie islooking to step up her run
disney journey from the 10k to agreater distance.
So, gang of the halves that uh,run disney does, which one
would you pick?
marathon weekend because wineand dine yeah we got contention
(17:13):
already I love it all right jack.
Why?
Why do you say marathon weekend?
Speaker 4 (17:17):
because, like it's
usually kind of like the
weather's just right for itusually and it's nice and cool.
You can go all out, in myopinion, with costumes, because
you don't have to worry aboutheat too, too, too much.
Um, because it's obviouslyjanuary, like, you have the
whole, like four days of running.
It's just a whole mass ofpeople.
(17:39):
The crowds are the biggestduring that weekend, so it it's
a lot of encouragement and it'sjust grand old time of fun.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
All right.
Now the counter argument fromLexi Lexi.
Why should Stephanie choose thewine and dine half?
Speaker 3 (17:54):
I have four words for
you.
Whoa Four, bob, not Greg Foodand wine festival 100 agree I I
think I think that just doinghalf because I mean I will say I
(18:15):
am partial because that was myfirst run disney weekend and so
it will always have a specialplace in my heart but going out
like I feel like the vibe isjust really chill and then you
get to celebrate at Epcotafterwards and um, you get I
(18:37):
mean I know it's not much, butit's a $15 gift card to the food
and wine festival and um, Idon't know that that will always
be my favorite race weekend, Ithink, and I feel like it's a
great place to do your first, because it's not I I almost my
counter argument would beagainst marathon weekend is I
(18:57):
feel like marathon weekend maybe a little more serious and I
will say in lexi's defense aboutany weekend, if you're going to
get your bang for your buck, Iwill say Wine and Dine is the
best weekend to go because youdo get the $15 gift card.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
It's the first race
weekend at Run Disney, so
everybody's excited for thewhole season and then having
that party included with yourhalf marathon, that whole party,
I mean they do character meetand greets.
The rides are really lowweights and most people don't
stay very long because they'reso tired from waking up early
that they end up leaving.
So the park becomes extremelyempty.
(19:34):
But the only con about thatparty is every time I've gone
it's been bad weather, with theexception of once.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Here's my point
counterpoint it really depends
what's your goal.
If you want to run through thecastle, you got to do it on
Princess or the half marathonduring marathon weekend.
But I agree with Lexi andeverybody else.
(20:03):
I agree with Lexi and everybodyelse Wine and dine marathon, I
think, is a little bit betterbecause I think it's the big
highlight of marathon weekendand, princess, you run through
the castle but then you're onthat road for 11 more miles.
Here, I think, you go throughEpcot, you go through the
boardwalk, you hit someHollywood studios, you get a
(20:26):
little more park time.
It's a little more things tosee and do, I think, than the
road in and out of Magic Kingdom.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
If this was Wine and
Dine in the mid to late 2010s, I
think slam dunk it would bewine and dine really because you
know again, like you allmentioned, you have the after
party.
But back in that time when rundisney was creative enough to
(20:58):
not have every single race startand end at epcot, the thing
that was really billed aboutwine and dine half was it was
the only half marathon where yougot to run through three parks
right here, and it has been avery, very long time since that
has happened since 2018, becausethat was the one time that I
(21:19):
got to do that I mean for a lotof us here on.
You know this week's recordingone of our first ever run disney
half marathons was in 2016 thatrace started at espn wide world
of sports, and ended at epcot, and then jack, you know, similar
to what you were saying thenthey shifted it where the start
(21:40):
line was at the ttc, and thenyou finished at Epcot and again
afforded you the opportunity totouch all those parks.
So, stephanie, here would be myadvice for you.
I think if you're looking forthe quintessential run Disney
experience, I would say Wine andDine because of, again, the
(22:02):
distance and the after partyparty.
But if this is specificallygoing to be your first half
marathon ever, then I'm gonnasay marathon weekend and or
princess yeah because, eventhough it's a bit of a slog
getting there and back, it'd bereally cool to say hey.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
During my first half
marathon, I ran down main street
, usa and ran throughcinderella's castle yeah, and I
think, and I think that's prettycool yeah, yeah, princess was
my first half and that was theone thing I really remembered
and was in all of I have aquestion from regina, and she
asked have you ever experiencedimposter syndrome while training
(22:47):
or during a race?
Speaker 5 (22:49):
Well, her question is
specifically about during
training or a race and I haven'tnecessarily during training or
during a race, but I havepost-race my first dopey.
I felt very much impostersyndrome, which is why I
constantly am telling my clientstake pictures and take in all
(23:14):
of the moments of your races, because if I didn't have those,
I don't know that I wouldbelieve that I did it.
But something that got methrough that afterward was the
fact that I knew I did somethingreally hard and I wanted to
experience it again.
And getting through that momentwas really, really special and
(23:40):
showed myself that I really cando hard things and show myself
that I really can do hard things.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
For me, I would say
I've never really experienced it
because for me, we have suchgreat training resources whether
that's having a coach or ifyou're doing this on your own
and you're using the trainingplans that are on rundisneycom
as long as you're sticking tothat for a majority of your time
(24:07):
, all of those plans or yourcoach is going to get you ready
to make sure that you are in aoptimal position in order to
finish that race and finish thattraining run.
So for me personally, I cannever say that I've had it.
I mean sure, maybe, I meangreat.
(24:29):
There was that one when I hadmy 23 miler.
Last was right before one andnine last year and when I had my
first ever emotional breakdownon a run.
I never sure did I doubt myselfAbsolutely, but I never had the
thought process of, oh, I'mnever going to be able to finish
this run or no, I'm never goingto be able to finish this race.
(24:53):
I think my doubt was from theperspective of I'm never going
to achieve this goal that I'veset out for myself, and I think
achieving a goal with impostersyndrome, and imposter syndrome
in terms of finishing the race,I think are two very, very,
completely different things.
Speaker 5 (25:12):
Another thing I want
to mention about that too, is
I've found from talking withpeople that imposter syndrome a
lot of times comes fromcomparing, and I would encourage
you, if you're listening tothis, to not compare yourself to
others.
Remember, if you run, even fora couple of seconds, you are a
runner, and just becausesomebody else is doing something
(25:34):
different doesn't mean that youare not also a runner and
doesn't mean that you can't dosomething amazing.
Remember, you are doing morethan a lot of people can do and
that's great.
And even if you're not wheresomebody else is, you're still
working towards a goal and thatis a great achievement.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
For me, my area
there's not many run walkers and
so you're out in the park andyou're running with somebody.
Then you slow down and stop.
Are you okay?
Is everything going on?
You know?
Is everything okay?
No, I'm fine, I'll just dointervals, but you stop running.
It's like, yeah, I know it'sokay, but then you're doing the
(26:22):
Galloway shuffle where you'reshuffling back and forth with
people and that's the only timeyou can say, is it imposter
syndrome?
It's just that you're not doingthe norm.
Let's rephrase that You're notdoing what people think is the
norm that you got to run a full26 miles, 13 miles, whatever
(26:43):
you're doing, and it works.
I mean you miles, whateveryou're doing, you you know, and
it works.
I mean you'll talk about it inraces.
You do the Galloway method onewalk, one, whatever you want to
call it and you'll see peopleand all of a sudden, at the end
of the race, that person infront of you is behind you and
(27:04):
you walk past them three or fourtimes.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
I think it's really
important to remember that your
race is not their race.
And even I mean like I meanI've told the story before of
whenever I ran a 10K in Parisand I was the only person doing
run walk method, but that wasprobably one of the most
(27:28):
enjoyable races that I've hadbecause it was so beautiful and
I was in a city that I love andI was having fun listening to
people speak French all aroundme.
But I mean I'm not going to liein the middle of it.
When I was the only one at thevery end I was like, should I be
here?
I don't know.
And you just have to combatthose thoughts and you have to
(27:52):
remember that you're doing therun walk method because that's
what works for you.
Speaker 5 (27:58):
All right.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
On a less serious
note, megan wants to know
jimmy's or sprinkles so thisquestion came from megan and I
know megan was originally fromthe northeast, even though she's
she's living down in floridanow.
So obviously I think I knoweveryone here knows what
sprinkles are, but doeseverybody know what jimmy?
Well, our version from theNortheast I don't know if you're
(28:22):
the same with yours- so to me,jimmy's is just a Philadelphia
slash Northeast way of talkingabout sprinkles, or the
non-rainbow sprinkles as welltoo.
So to me, even though I havealways lived in this area, I
have always been a sprinkles guythrough and through, so that
(28:47):
that that, for me, is thecorrect answer we don't.
Speaker 5 (28:51):
We don't ever call
them jimmies here, um, we only
call them sprinkles.
But I always thought, like thelittle tiny round rainbow ones
were the jimm and the longer onesprinkles were the sprinkles.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
I've been North
Jersey.
I mean we always we call themrainbow sprinkles or sprinkles,
and the Jimmy's were the brownones.
I mean I don't know if that'sthat's what they call them up
here.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
Yeah, that's, that's
what they call them up here,
yeah, so like down the Phillyarea it's more.
The concept of Jimmy's is moreuniversal in terms of like, any
and all Like.
It wasn't associated with thecolor, it was.
If you were getting the littletiny sugary things, yeah, thrown
(29:39):
all over your ice cream.
People, at least in this area, say Jimmy's, but again, I'm
always a sprinkles guy throughand through.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
You got to get the
sprinkles anyway.
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (29:51):
I just saw a picture
of it.
You guys are going to hate me.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Sprinkles.
You never had sprinkles, right.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
No, I've had
sprinkles, this is also the same
girl that had her first peanutbutter and jelly sandwich about
three years ago.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
I've never had
Jimmy's so I can't judge it, but
I've had sprinkles and it'sjust okay.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
Wow I know Wow.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (30:17):
All right, wow, all
right.
So sprinkles are something thatwe put on ice cream and tara
wants to know what is yourfavorite ice cream flavor that's
a tough one so mine iscomplicated.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
I have a complicated
answer.
I like chocolate, chocolatechip cookie dough, so normally
chocolate chip cookie dough isvanilla with chocolate chip
cookie dough pieces, but I likethe chocolate ice cream with the
cookie dough pieces in it.
That's my answer.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
I think that's a
violation.
I'm sorry, any, anything thathas a a cookie or a brownie or
peanut butter or or some type ofcandy mixed into it.
It has to be vanilla ice cream.
You, you cannot have chocolatelike especially, like you know,
(31:15):
say you're getting like a mashedup like Reese's peanut butter
cup in ice cream.
If you have the chocolate icecream, that ice cream is going
to mask the chocolate of thecandy and you just, and you just
can't do that.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
You're correct.
Correct Because you are correct, because I don't know if it's a
regional thing, but friendliesaround here used to have a Jim
Dandy or a Reese's Peanut Cupsundae, and if you had chocolate
ice cream with it you'd missthe flavor profile.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
No, I don't think
there's anything wrong with like
adding like a chocolate syrupor like a chocolate fudge to it,
but it has to stay vanilla icecream.
Speaker 4 (32:07):
So it's not
necessarily it's gelato.
Can I do gelato?
There's one specifically Likedo you guys know like those
pint-sized Talenti things thatyou can?
Speaker 2 (32:19):
get at like Publix or
Kroger.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
They're so good that
they're hard to open, but that's
how you know.
People are desperate to eat itbecause it tastes so good that
you have to like hit it againsta counter or put underneath hot
water.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
Can we get a video of
that?
Speaker 4 (32:34):
Well, you can watch
videos of it on YouTube.
It's actually a thing Likepeople will try and find ways
just to open up these Talentithings, but their sea salt
caramel gelato is.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Can we get a video of
you trying to open it?
Speaker 4 (32:48):
up.
I think that's what we want.
I look at David and I say, canyou do it?
Then he gets it off in onetwist, I think it's maybe that
I've loosened it.
I've loosened it after hittingit on the counter a few times,
thinking it might like Now thatyou're back to Tom, you won't
have to have him loosen it ohyeah, I don't see any kind of
(33:12):
ice cream or gelato in my future, because it's a lot of dairy
too and it messes with my Okay.
Speaker 5 (33:23):
On that note, I was
going to say that I can't eat
ice cream anymore, but myfavorite was um the brownie
batter overload at Culver's.
I would get that it had piecesin it, um, and hot fudge and
caramel with their custard, andit was so good.
But I do have a question foryou all.
Do you have, or have you everhad, a hot fudge, shake or malt?
(33:45):
Is that a thing?
Where you guys are from?
I've never had a shake before.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Can you describe it?
And then no, no, no, sorry.
Speaker 5 (33:57):
Of course you haven't
had a shake, jack yeah, so a
hot fudge shake would.
What I thought it would be isliterally just a vanilla shake
with hot fudge mixed into it, solike you make.
But it's very common here inMinnesota to get a hot fudge
shake.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Okay, all right, so
I'm picking up what you're
putting down here.
So like a chocolate shake, butit's hot fudge shake.
Speaker 5 (34:20):
Okay, all right, so
I'm picking up what you're
putting down here.
So like a chocolate shake, butit's hot fudge instead of
chocolate yeah, so to me, um,there is.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
There is a restaurant
in wilmington, delaware.
Um, I can probably get to it inabout a half an hour from my
house and actually it's a prettyfamous place.
It's been around for a reallylong time and it used to be
frequented by former PresidentBiden all the time.
Speaker 5 (34:43):
Interesting.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
But they have.
Now they do that exact thing, but it's called a black and
white.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
Yes, interesting,
interesting.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
So again, I don't
know if it's specifically hot
fudge, but it's like some typeof chocolate sauce mixed into
the vanilla ice cream to make ashake.
It has to be hot fudge, butit's like some type of chocolate
sauce mixed in to the vanillaice cream to make a shake,
otherwise okay.
Speaker 5 (35:05):
So, okay, all right.
So a little bit of differencethere, okay, but the reason I
asked is because it's, like Isaid, it's very common here and
we went to 50.
No, what is that place called?
That's in hollywood studios?
Oh, sc.
No, the one where.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
Oh, 50s Primetime 50s
Primetime.
Speaker 5 (35:25):
yeah, and we ordered
a hot fudge shake and the lady
looked at us like we had sixheads, because apparently nobody
orders that.
So I was really interested tosee if it is just a Minnesota
thing.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
Interesting.
Okay, alright, so for meoverall, overall, my favorite
ice cream flavor is cookies andcream because again some type of
cookie or candy incorporatingvanilla, ice cream, lexi, but
but if I had to go and actuallyjack you, trigger the memory for
me.
When you were talking about yousaid salted caramel, uh, gelato
(36:01):
a sea salt caramel oh, sea salt.
Yes, yes, okay, and this isperfect if you ever want to do
this during a rise and runmeetup, because you know we all
meet at the food truck area andright across the way from that
is salt and straw and they do asalted caramel ribbons ice cream
(36:24):
, it's incredibly simple.
It's just the vanilla ice creamand those caramel ribbons.
But let me tell you it isabsolutely fabulous and because
whenever I travel for work onthe west coast, uh, you know, a
few of my co-workers and I wehave like a tradition that we go
to salt and straw.
So the fact that you can get itat disney world and have a nice
(36:45):
rise and run connection with it, um, definitely, definitely
give that one a try my favoriteice cream.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
there's like it's
between two ice creams right now
it's either toasted almond orpistachio, having the little
nuts in it kind of gives thatlittle extra crunch.
Speaker 5 (37:03):
Okay, okay.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
I know we were
spending a lot of time talking
about ice cream and I love it,and I think we might need to do
this as a social media poll, butI just want to get all of your
reactions to this.
I went on a business trip oncewith two coworkers who had the
exact same perfect ice creamcombination and I thought it was
(37:29):
incredibly gross.
So here we go.
They paired mint chocolate chipice cream with caramel sauce
Yay, or nay no.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Yeah, you got to kill
the flavor of the mint
chocolate chip.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Yeah, I'm not a mint
chocolate chip fan.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
Okay, all right, I am
so glad because, let me tell
you, actually I think we were inSan Francisco.
So we went to the Ghirardelli, like you know, the the famous
one right there on the wharf, and they and the one guy ordered
it and my co-worker turned tohim was like oh my god, that's
what I'm gonna get too.
And I'm like you two aredisgusting, because I just
(38:13):
thought that sounded so gross.
So I I feel somewhat vindicatedthere.
It's perfect, excellent.
Thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Our friend Hollywood
wants to know if you got a flat
tire, could you change ityourself on the side of the road
?
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Yes by calling AAA.
I was fixing to say do I haveWi-Fi?
Speaker 1 (38:37):
All right, so this
question is probably an attack
on me.
Oh, you can't, this will beinteresting.
One is right, so this questionis probably an attack on me.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
Oh, you can't.
This will be interesting.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
Well, so the other
week he had sent me a photo of
him fixing his riding lawnmowerand I had a situation at the end
of last grass-cutting seasonwhere my tire on the the one
(39:08):
tire on the tractor, deflated somuch that it fell off of like
the rim, so like there wouldhave been no way for me, even if
I inflated this thing, to tolike properly get it back on
there.
And then I think, but he wasdoing something where he was
like fixing his transmission, and I was like, if that happened
to me, I would like just curlup in the ball and you know, and
(39:31):
just be like someone help me,please.
Or like I would like run to myneighbor's house who's like a
diesel engine mechanic and belike please, please, help me, or
something like that.
So I feel like this is anattack on me personally.
But to answer the question, tony, I think I probably could,
but I'm going Jack's routebecause I pay for AAA and if I
(39:53):
got it.
You might as well use it,Although I will share a funny
story.
There was one time my wife andI we were sharing a car because
one of our cars was in the shopor whatever and we're driving to
work and we get a flat, so wepull off into this like ritzy
neighborhood so we immediatelycall triple a and they'll be
like we'll be there in like 45minutes.
(40:14):
Well, like three neighbors musthave like walked by us or were
like peering out from us, likefrom their like windows inside
their homes.
Next thing I know there's a coppulled up behind me with his
lights on and comes up and tapsthe window and is like are you
folks okay?
(40:35):
And we're like oh yeah, we'refine, we're just waiting for
triple a to to change the tire.
He was like you call them, cancel that I'll help you change
the tire.
I think that all these peoplethought that we were like, uh,
marv, you know from home alone, and we were like case in the
neighborhood.
So you know we could, you know,go on on the stealing rampage
or something like marv I.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
I can.
I can change a tire, I can pumpmy own gas even though I live
in Jersey, I forgot about that, okay, and I can drive a manual
transmission too, tony, so Ishould not get stuck anywhere,
hopefully and the weird thing is, that question gets loaded.
(41:17):
We were talking about it alittle earlier.
Some cars now don't even comewith a spare tire, so I found
that out today.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
That's disappointing
I want to learn how to drive a
manual.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
Somebody teach me who
don't you like have take their,
take their car and practicewith it okay, what's the
weirdest place on a training, run or walk?
Speaker 4 (41:47):
have you had a stop
to pee?
Speaker 1 (41:49):
oh yes, and this
question comes from our friend
uh maggie, over at magic boundtravel.
I I love her creativity when itcomes to this, so gang.
Speaker 4 (42:00):
Don't be shy.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
I never really had a
weird place.
I mean basically port-a-pottiesrestrooms, hop in some
restaurant, unless you call thata weird place.
Speaker 3 (42:14):
So my story is I kind
of peed in my pants.
Speaker 2 (42:21):
That was sweat.
That's pants.
That was sweat.
Well, that's unique.
That was sweat right.
Speaker 3 (42:26):
It was sweat, but it
was also like on the side of the
road on the way into myapartment complex because I
didn't make it to the bathroomin time.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
This episode of the
Rise and Run podcast is brought
to you by depends.
Speaker 5 (42:44):
I only once have been
nowhere close to a bathroom and
gone into the woods and gone, but I don't.
I don't know if that'snecessarily like a weird place.
Otherwise I purposefully chooseroutes that have bathrooms or
porta potties or a gas stationsomething yeah, I definitely.
Speaker 4 (43:05):
I I mean besides the
woods during a train run, but I
mean, oh god y'all make thatsound like the woods is normal.
It is not normal well yes, it isso my, my abnormal one happened
during my Daytona 100.
I had to really go and I Ididn't see any porta potties and
(43:27):
it was about 4am in the morning.
The closest thing I could findbefore I was going to pee myself
was to go behind these bushes, but it was like literally a
short wall, the bushes and mewedged in between, and just
behind the short wall wasapartment complex and I mean
they could have saw two moonsthat night.
(43:48):
I really don't know like Ireally had to go.
I was like go.
Speaker 1 (43:54):
Was it a full moon
jack?
Or was it a waxing or waninggibbous?
Speaker 4 (44:00):
but um, yeah, and I
had to do that, I think twice,
but it was so early in themorning I had to make sure no
cars were coming, because it'slike the bushes weren't even
that big in the first placeeither.
Speaker 1 (44:09):
So you kind of could
you imagine running an ultra and
having to do that and thengetting arrested for indecent
exposure?
Speaker 4 (44:16):
well, that's what I
was worried about.
You had to, like, look like the.
Not everybody was asleep, though, and there was a brick
wall behind me.
Technically it wasn't very high, but oh boy, oh boy.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
Well, maggie, I think
you win the award for the most
creative question that we got.
Speaker 2 (44:38):
We need her answer.
Speaker 4 (44:39):
Yes, yes, yes, yeah.
Speaker 1 (44:42):
So, Maggie, we expect
a Facebook post of the weirdest
place that you had to go to thebathroom during a training run.
Alright, I'm going to grab thenext one here, and this one
probably can be best answered byAlicia John and myself.
And it comes from Stephanie andshe says do any of us own DVC?
She is considering buying intoit in from Stephanie and she
says do any of us own DVC?
(45:02):
She is considering buying intoit in the future and she is not
sure if it makes sense for her.
And then she did have afollow-up question there and she
says is it difficult gettingDVC rooms during race weekends?
yes it's a loaded question yes,it is a very loaded question,
(45:22):
but let's tackle the first part.
First, explain why it makessense to you.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
The question is does
it make sense?
There's two paths to go by.
So do you want full DVC optionsor do you want just a DVC
resale?
Because there's two differentways.
Like, you don't get thediscounts, you don't get the
(45:51):
special perks if you buy resale, but you save a lot of money.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
Yeah, I'll back it up
a little bit further here,
because the whole concept ofbuying direct versus buying
resale is a whole conversationwithin itself.
I'll just take it more from a1,000-foot level in terms of
just buying it in general.
Does it make sense?
For me it does because, granted, I love math, I love making
(46:21):
spreadsheets on google sheetsand and everything like that.
To me the light bulb went offwhen, when I did the math.
Now, grant, this is based offof because you know, like john
said about the whole idea ofdirect versus resale, I bought
resale.
So you know I bought it at adiscounted price and when I ran
(46:42):
the math on it, essentially Isaid yes to it when I found out
that I could stay at thepolynesian for roughly the same
cost as it would be to stay atpop century wow and and for me
that's that is just benefit inspades there.
(47:07):
Now, obviously, your mileagewill vary on that, based on what
resort you buy, how many pointsyou buy, um, the time of year,
the type of type of room thatyou go into and such.
You know, there's a lot, a lotof factors that do go into that.
But I like the fact that again, you're getting deluxe level
(47:29):
accommodations for the price ofa low level, moderate to a
higher end, value, value.
And the fact that once you dohave, either if you've paid for
it in full or you do some typeof financing with it, by the
time you have that paid off, you've essentially you're almost
kind of like pre paying foryour vacations and trying to
(47:52):
beat out inflation.
And the fact that you own thesevacation deeds anywhere from,
you know, depending on again, depending on the resort that you
go with, anywhere from 20 to 50years, is to me makes a makes a
lot of sense.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
And that's another
point.
And, stephanie, don't know howold you are, but if you're in
your fifties or sixties, buyingDVC might not be the answer for
you Cause, like you said, new,new resort, 50 years from now.
40 years from now, are yougoing to get the benefit out of
(48:32):
it?
Where, like, for example, me, Ibought mine years ago, mine's
been paid off.
All I do is pay an annual duesand I basically estimated out
with my annual dues and takingwhat I paid for the points over
(48:53):
the 40 year contract.
I am way ahead of the game.
At like, probably 22, I'd sayroughly about 2000 to $2,500 a
year is my, my cost for DVC forthe 40 years I'm going to have
it.
Speaker 1 (49:12):
Yeah, usually I've
seen the statistic again
depending on where you buy theresort that like, by the time
you've hit your like, anywherefrom like six to eighth trip or
something like that, you're youhave hit the break-even point by
that point.
And so the you know, the factthat you know, especially like
you know.
Let's take, for example, the,the new, even though they
(49:32):
haven't technically announced ityet the new resort that they're
building right or in betweenFort Wilderness and Wilderness
Lodge.
Once that comes online and theystart selling contracts for it,
that's going to be 50 years.
The fact that if you'rebreaking even well into a
(49:53):
quarter of the way through thecontract, I think that's a
really big beneficial value.
Now, all of this to say John, alicia and myself are not
financial advisors and you needto do what's best for you, so
please don't sue us.
Okay, but let's tackle thesecond half of that question.
Alicia, is it tough to getrooms for race weekends?
Speaker 5 (50:15):
Yes, and I feel like
it's getting harder as they
build more things.
Speaker 1 (50:20):
Okay, John.
What is your opinion on it?
Speaker 2 (50:23):
It depends when you
book and where you want to stay.
Speaker 5 (50:28):
That's true.
Speaker 2 (50:29):
With DVC, your home
resort, you could book 11 months
out.
If you want, like I haveSaratoga, I could book Saratoga
11 months out.
I know the race seasons, I canplan out 11 months out and book
and I'm pretty okay getting aroom where I want to stay.
But in the past I was able toget rooms at other resorts at
(50:56):
seven months out.
That has not been happeninganymore at seven months out.
That has not been happeninganymore.
So but if you're happy withyour home resort for a race
weekend I think you'll be you'llbe fine.
If you want to try to gambleand say, okay, let me try to get
you know animal kingdom forrace weekend.
(51:16):
Uh, and you're not at your homeresort, you might have a
problem.
Speaker 5 (51:22):
I think to that point
too.
I think it's wise to really doa pros and cons list of
different resorts and figure outwhat is the best for you for
choosing a home resort, especially if you're going to
use it for a race weekend orsomething of that nature.
Speaker 1 (51:40):
Yeah, but best advice
that I can give if you decide
to pull the trigger on dbc isbuy where you want to stay.
I think, when it comes down tothis, that is the most important
thing that you need to figureout.
Like john said, usually at youknow as long as you know, say,
if you're going to go formarathon weekend, you know that
a couple of weeks after you gethome it's going to be time to
(52:02):
book for the following year andagain, you're getting that
priority ahead of everyone else.
When it comes to DVC, you gotto remember the two windows the
11-month window, which is whenyou can book your home resort,
and then the seven-month window, which is when you can book
anywhere else, Again all basedon availability.
(52:23):
So I'll give you an exampleJust a couple of weeks ago, my
wife and I booked a room, one ofthose new duo studios in the
Polynesian Tower.
That's the room that right nowwe have booked for springtime
surprise in 2026.
But once September rolls aroundand our seven month window
(52:43):
opens, I think we're going todip into that availability, see
what options that we have andthen maybe try and save a few
points here or there for afuture vacation down the road.
I know that was a lot ofinformation that we just gave.
If you have, Stephanie, if youhave more specific questions,
feel free to reach out to us onFacebook or you can send us an
(53:05):
email atthegangatrisenrunpodcastcom.
We can help answer it further.
There was obviously we don'twant to bore everyone to tears
who is not DVC or was notinterested in DVC, but I will
give one really really goodresource, and that is the
website and the YouTube channelDVC Fan.
(53:25):
They have all sorts of greatcontent about weighing the pros
and cons, giving a breakdown ofall the resorts and such like
that.
It's a really good resource ifthis is something you're truly
considering.
Speaker 4 (53:37):
David asks what do we
all do for a living and what do
we study in college?
Speaker 1 (53:44):
well, we all studied
podcasting right this is our
full-time job I think that'sjust you well, jack, what do you
do for a living?
Speaker 4 (53:55):
well, it's an
association to what lexi does as
well, of sorts.
I'm in production, accountinguh for tv and film.
Uh, lexi and I are currentlyworking on a project right now
for peacock and um, I'm her boss, she is my boss.
Well, I, I have a.
I have a few bosses.
Let me, I am the lower personon the totem pole.
(54:17):
But yeah, she is one of mybosses.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
I have a Patreon idea
Lexi, go live or do a recording
of Jack's performance reviewand then we'll post that as a
special Patreon-only episode.
Speaker 3 (54:33):
What would I say?
Speaker 4 (54:34):
Okay, Do I get to do
a boss review too?
Speaker 1 (54:40):
Oh yes, An undercover
boss.
Speaker 2 (54:43):
That's a skip review,
yeah.
Speaker 1 (54:48):
Well, jack, how about
the second part of the question
?
What did you study in college?
Speaker 4 (54:56):
Not, production
accounting.
I never thought I'd be anywherenear numbers, let me put it
that way.
No, I was doing apparelmerchandising and product
development with a minor inmarketing.
I really wanted to go intofashion design over at Kent
State but I got more moneyoffered over at BGSU and so I
(55:19):
was like, well, I can still dofashion but merchandising and it
just was like it was a goodexperience, but I just feel like
I could have chosen somethingdifferent.
Speaker 1 (55:29):
Jack, I will say your
alma mater is lovely to run
around in the middle of January.
Speaker 3 (55:34):
Thanks.
Speaker 1 (55:36):
I was being sarcastic
.
It was cold and desolate.
Speaker 3 (55:39):
Rude, All right.
Speaker 1 (55:44):
Lexi.
So we know that you work inproduction, accounting and
you're Jack's boss, but what didyou study in college?
Speaker 3 (55:52):
I do.
I work in production accounting.
I'm a payroll accountant nowand I studied accounting in
college.
And I studied accounting incollege I knew from well.
We have home videos of mesaying I want to be a banker
like my mama, but I knew Iwanted to be in accounting from
(56:14):
like 11th grade when I took myfirst accounting class.
Really, that's impressive andthen never changed your major or
anything.
And, coming from small town, mississippi, when I said I
wanted to be in entertainmentaccounting, they were like, oh,
casinos.
And I was like no, like movies.
They were like oh, like, oh,that exists.
(56:37):
Like, yeah, somebody's got todo it, it's fun.
And so then met Jack.
We were in Orlando, we moved toAtlanta together and I was on
set as an extra, got to talkingto one of the assistant
directors who knew a productionaccountant, got me an interview
(56:59):
and three weeks later I was onthe job.
Been there ever since.
Speaker 1 (57:03):
Do you have a SAG
card, since you were an extra?
Speaker 3 (57:06):
No.
Speaker 4 (57:10):
I process all the
background extras.
They're all non-union.
Speaker 1 (57:14):
Okay, gotcha, gotcha.
Speaker 3 (57:15):
But fun fact, Jack
and I were in Avengers Infinity.
Speaker 4 (57:19):
War.
No, here's the fun fact.
Let's be honest, the better funfact was in Atlanta, when we
were doing background stuff, wewere actually walkers on Walking
Dead.
Oh, yeah, we were.
Yeah, I got killed three times.
It was very cool.
Speaker 1 (57:35):
Wow, now in Avengers
did you both get dusted or no?
Speaker 3 (57:42):
No, no, it was the
beginning, so you know the scene
at the very beginning of themovie when they're in New York.
Speaker 4 (57:48):
Avengers Affinity War
it's.
Speaker 3 (57:49):
Avengers, affinity
War, yeah, yeah, when they're in
New York and the alien roundship comes down and Doctor
Strange and Hulk and.
Speaker 1 (58:01):
Iron.
Speaker 3 (58:01):
Man all run out and
they're like who are you?
And then they're like Thanossent us to destroy.
Blah, blah, blah.
Speaker 4 (58:07):
We were running right
behind them it was probably my
favorite day on set it was somuch fun.
I think I had.
I've booked some acting gigswith my agent, but I still think
that day specifically was mymost favorite day ever on set.
It was just so chaotic, andbeautiful yeah.
Speaker 3 (58:26):
And Robert Downey Jr
was everything you would want
him to be, and I still remember,at the very end of the day we'd
been there like what 14 hoursor something crazy like that.
Speaker 4 (58:35):
It was a long day.
It was a long day.
We went and got food afterwards.
Speaker 1 (58:38):
Did you get shawarma?
Speaker 3 (58:42):
day, it was a long
day.
Food afterwards did you getshawarma?
No, we got hibachi.
We did.
There was a group of us extrasand we all went and got hibachi
together.
But I remember like theywrapped and they were like, okay
, everybody's good.
And rdj comes out and he saidthat's all right, guys, I didn't
mess up.
That time you can go home.
Yes, it's perfect.
And also I am a travel agentand that's kind of a new
(59:06):
development.
Speaker 1 (59:06):
So, yeah, all right,
John, we know you're retired,
but what did you used to do?
Speaker 2 (59:12):
So I'm kind of
retired.
But so my original job, mainjob, was I was it.
I I did it for 20 something, 20something years so, and that
that was my main job.
Speaker 1 (59:27):
Right now I'm a
parking violations officer, but
that's my part-time retirementjob john, I wish the, the, the
show parking wars would still beon and, and you know, maybe you
can get promoted down here tofilling the PPA, because because
that was the, the parking crewthat they followed in that
original series and I mean, thePPA is infamous down here with
(59:51):
people, you know, like givingout tickets and then people just
like cursing them out on thesidewalk.
I would, I would love to seeyou in an interaction like that.
Speaker 2 (59:59):
I had a couple of
those today.
Speaker 1 (01:00:03):
But what did you
study in college?
Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
Okay, I did not go to
college, okay.
Speaker 1 (01:00:08):
Oh, okay.
Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
Really, I did go to
the Institute of Audio Research
and I studied audio engineering.
I was going to be a big recordproducer.
Speaker 4 (01:00:19):
Oh, I love that.
Speaker 2 (01:00:20):
But you know life
gets in the way and you know,
back in those days, to getinvolved you had to do an
internship, a free internship.
And it's like, oh, we're goingto call you at any time of the
hour and you have to come in andhelp, like, if the people need
(01:00:42):
to get picked up to the airport, that's your job, I go, okay
Then.
So you're working days andworking nights.
One's paying you, one's not.
It's like, okay, I'm gettingpaid doing this work, I'm, I'm
going in that direction.
Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
Very cool, Alicia.
How about you?
Speaker 5 (01:00:57):
So I actually have
three jobs.
Um, I went to school fornursing, I work in long-term
care, as we know.
I'm also a running coach, andthen I also work at a theater as
a bartender and an usher.
I did not know that.
I don't think any of you knewthat.
I knew you were a bartender,did you?
Speaker 2 (01:01:13):
Yeah, you said it
once before.
Yeah, I think you mentioned itto me when I talk to you one of
the one of those past days.
Speaker 5 (01:01:23):
not only can she buy
the margaritas.
She can make them say we onlydo wine and beer now, but we
used to make drinks.
Can you make?
Speaker 4 (01:01:28):
me a lemon drop the
next time I see you.
I love lemon drops.
Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
I, I'm, my mind is
literally blown right now and I
just I'm having this picture nowat the next meetup and just a
nice little bar stand for Aliciaand Alicia's margaritas Not,
only are they on me, but they'remade by me too, that's awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:01:47):
That's amazing,
Alicia.
Speaker 1 (01:01:49):
So cool.
I agree, I know you guys jokedat the top.
When I was a student at TempleUniversity, I studied
broadcasting, telecommunicationsand mass media.
I also had a minor in politicalscience.
I'm not sure why I did thatexactly.
Maybe I thought I was gonnawork for like cnn or something
(01:02:11):
like that you would have been agreat president oh, thank you.
Yeah, because, because mypolitical science minor would
have got me really far intoday's political spectrum.
Yeah, uh, but you know presidentwell, I've always said that if
I did become president, my firstexecutive order would be that
if you had a philadelphiacheesesteak on your menu, uh,
(01:02:31):
you need to make sure that itdoes not have sauteed bell
peppers on it, because no,matter where you go.
that's what you see on the menuand that's not how we do it in
philly.
So it that would be, that wouldbe my first executive.
But, um, in terms of my career, yes, I am a video and audio
editor.
Um, I work for a medicalpublishing company, so it's a
(01:02:57):
lot of videos of doctors talkingabout the latest and greatest
techniques and devices and drugs.
Unfortunately, it's not the TVshows that I thought I would be
editing when I was in college.
But, fun fact, it was my junioryear of college.
(01:03:21):
I had an internship in the cityfor the company that used to do
the show Trading Spaces.
Oh, and they had all those TLCshows.
So Trading Spaces, baby Story, wedding Story so I got to work
on those and I had such a greatinternship, they hired me
(01:03:44):
straight out of the internshipto do part-time assistant
editing work.
So I made my creditedtelevision debut before I even
graduated, on the last season ofTrading Spaces.
Speaker 4 (01:04:00):
That's really cool.
Speaker 1 (01:04:02):
And, fun fact, you
always thought the show was
technically shot in two days.
Here's a secret.
Speaker 3 (01:04:09):
They did it in three.
Yes, there was always.
Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
I would always have a
bin of footage called Day Zero
Shoot.
So that's when they do the like.
That's when they would do thething with Paige Davis of like
swapping the keys and stuff likethat.
Speaker 4 (01:04:25):
Oh yeah, but what?
Speaker 1 (01:04:26):
they make you do is
if you ever go back and watch an
old show.
Everyone wears the sameclothing the entire shoot.
So then that way when they dothe various scenes.
There's continuity in terms ofthat.
So very, very cool.
We learned.
We learned today that alicia'sa bartender and the other two
(01:04:51):
ladies were extras and avengers.
Speaker 2 (01:04:53):
That's pretty darn
cool okay, our friend courtney
asked uh, for a first time, disneyland runner, what are some
differences from the startareas of Disneyland versus
Disney world?
I have to bail out of this onebecause I have never done a
Disneyland race.
Speaker 4 (01:05:10):
Uh, Lexi and I have.
Uh, we did it back in 2024.
Yeah, the first one.
Speaker 1 (01:05:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:05:19):
When they came back.
Super exciting, loved, loved.
Disneyland Um, I would say thebiggest ones, especially for the
5k.
Don't even try and bring.
If you're going to Disneyland, don't even try and bring a drop
bag for that one, because therace starts in the Disneyland
park.
I think the queue just tryingto get into the park goes all
(01:05:39):
the way out and it's just.
If you were to leave that line, drop the bag off wasn't it
guest services or guestrelations or something like that
near the park, you'd have toget back in and it would just.
I literally saw people runningwith their drop bags.
Just, don't even bring one, just have like a little belt on
you and then you're good and fora 5k you don't need one.
Yeah, and honestly, it was sucha really really cool race
(01:06:03):
because you never start a raceinside the park and then finish
inside the park like that's oneof the coolest 5ks I've ever
done.
Um, uh, with the start area forlike the 10k and halves at
disneyland versus disney world.
Disney world you have lots ofcharacter, meet and greets and
everything you.
You have a DJ and whatnot.
They're making it fun.
It's like a big, huge party.
(01:06:24):
And then the corrals you justwalk right on over.
Well, disneyland Lexi couldagree.
There's just not that theydon't have that.
They have like a soundordinance because you're right
next to all the hotels that arenot Disney owned, and so it's
going to be a bit quieter.
There's no characters to meeteither at the start lines.
Speaker 3 (01:06:50):
Yeah, what else am I
missing?
On that one, I think you prettymuch got it.
As far as the setup goes, it'slike once you get into the start
area it's very similarlylabeled to how disney world is,
so you know, like they have thesign that says drop bags, they
have the sign that say corralthis way, um.
Speaker 4 (01:07:11):
So I mean, as long as
you follow the signs, you
shouldn't be confused oranything like that yeah, and I
guess you could say, as alocation, what they've been
doing in the past is like it'slike what?
Maybe like a half a mile awayfrom the disney parks itself?
Um, distance wise, I mean fromthe point where you start in the
first mile, that's still onanaheim technically, because of
(01:07:33):
the way it takes you oh and funfact.
Speaker 3 (01:07:36):
Um, the place where
the start line is now is where
the new parking lot is going tobe.
Speaker 1 (01:07:42):
I was going to ask
that.
Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
Right Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
They just announced.
It makes too much sense thatthat's one of the many reasons
why Run Disney West Coast isgoing on hiatus for a while, and
actually let's give creditwhere credit is due here.
Congratulations, Jack, oncorrectly predicting where the
(01:08:10):
Avatar area was going to go.
Speaker 4 (01:08:13):
Well, also fun fact,
if you guys really think about
it.
They haven't said it yet at all, but I'm going to predict one
more thing, okay, Greg, Is thefact that the Hollywood area
will not close until after therace weekend.
Well, that makes sense yeah, there's no way that they're
going to close it before, because they always have a
running route and they have toapprove the route before, like
(01:08:34):
way before um, the race happened.
So I'm almost positive that wewould still be running through
the Hollywood area in Disney'sCalifornia Adventure for the
last time.
Speaker 1 (01:08:43):
So if you're going go
on Mike and Sully's Adventure
because it's going to close,I'll be interested to see if
they bring any of theanimatronics from that ride and
then put them into the doorcoaster area.
That ride and then put theminto the door coaster area.
Speaker 3 (01:09:01):
Aww, that would make
sense.
That would keep them fromhaving to recreate some things.
Speaker 1 (01:09:07):
Mm-hmm.
Speaker 3 (01:09:07):
Yeah.
And our last question thatwe'll tackle for this episode
comes from our friend Lindsay, and she asks Lindsay and she
asks what marathon would yourecommend for a back of the pack
(01:09:28):
, first timer I mean, I wouldsay the Walt Disney World
marathon hands down.
Speaker 5 (01:09:30):
That's what I was
gonna say.
I don't know if she was askingspecifically not run Disney
related, but I think that that'sone of the great things about
Disney is that it welcomes backof the Packers.
Speaker 4 (01:09:43):
If you see a race
that gives you a nice cushion
too.
If you're worried about time, that would be good, but also if
they're giving you a nicecushion.
Also, double check theelevation how hard the course is
too.
Speaker 1 (01:09:56):
Oh really, Jack, you
should check the elevation.
Speaker 4 (01:09:58):
Well, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:09:59):
You should look at
the course map.
Speaker 4 (01:10:01):
So one of my dream
races is the Great Wall Marathon
.
They give you eight hours tocomplete it, but it's also one
of the world's hardest marathons.
I want to do that one too.
If you want to go, just let meknow.
Speaker 3 (01:10:16):
I think one of the
important things to think about
whenever you're choosing anykind of race a marathon, half
marathon or even a 5K you needto do one that excites you.
So when you think about therace where you're running, what
you're going to be looking at,it doesn't matter if it's not
(01:10:37):
Disney, if that doesn't exciteyou.
If running New York excites you, do New York.
If running in another countryexcites you or running in the
countryside excites you, that'sthe one that you should do.
It's really catered to what youwant to be seeing.
Speaker 1 (01:10:59):
Lexi, that's a really
, really good point.
The recommendation that I amgoing to give now I give this as
a caveat, or actually twocaveats.
The first is number one I'venever run this race.
And number two is is it'sprobably not the easiest
marathon to get to, but mysuggestion, outside of the walt
(01:11:21):
disney world marathon, of course, would be the honolulu marathon
.
You go on their website andunder their faqs it says they
are the only marathon thatallows all finishers to complete
the race.
I mean, I have heard of many, many friends who have talked
(01:11:42):
about having seven, eight plushour finishes, you know, during
that particular race.
So they probably have the mostliberal you know, quote unquote
time limit of any marathon.
But again, you know, getting toOahu, I understand, is not the
cheapest thing in the world and,you know, is not the most
(01:12:05):
accessible to some.
But that's something todefinitely keep on your radar.
I know we have many, manyfriends in the Rise and Run
community who actually use thisrace as their catered training
run, whether they're doing justthe marathon or goofy or dopey,
(01:12:28):
because, again, you're gettingthe distance under your feet and
you can take as long as youwant.
And all that being said, if youwanted to incorporate that race
into your training this year.
I know there's a couple ofspots left, but definitely and I
grant it, I think it's.
I don't know if it's pinned onour Facebook page, but it's
(01:12:48):
somewhere on our Facebook pagethe Galloway team is putting
together a travel package forthis year's Honolulu Marathon in
December, because this is goingto be Jeff Galloway's final
marathon of his career.
So if you're interested inrunning with a bunch of Galloway
friends and Rise and Runfriends and being able to take
(01:13:13):
in this historic event for JeffGalloway, it's something to
definitely look into, that's forsure.
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
The Walt Disney World
Marathon is probably like a
good starting point.
You'll always find somebody inthe back of the pack to run with
you and help you complete thismission.
Speaker 1 (01:13:30):
Excellent, well gang.
I think we correctly predicted.
I think we had a ton of fundoing that right.
Oh my gosh.
Yes, this was so much fun.
Excellent, well gang.
I think we correctly predicted.
I think we had a ton of fundoing that right.
Speaker 4 (01:13:36):
Oh my gosh.
Yes, this is so much fun.
Speaker 1 (01:13:40):
And I know we didn't
get to everyone's questions.
So you know, if we're ever in asituation where, you know, I
don't know, a guest cancels onus or something like that, we
can definitely dip into more ofthese questions, because we
still have plenty that we didnot get the chance to answer.
But to everyone who submitted, thank you very much.
All right, well, we, before wemove on to the race report, just
(01:14:02):
got a couple of quickannouncements here.
Uh, the first is I know bobtalked about this last week uh,
in just a couple of short weeks,we are going to be celebrating
episode 200 of the Rise and Runpodcast and we want to feature
you our awesome, awesome, ourawesome, awesome listening
(01:14:24):
community.
So please call that hotlinenumber and I'll read it off here
again it is 727-266-2344.
Dial that up, leave us arecorded message and we will be
sure to play those all duringepisode 200.
(01:14:44):
Next up on the docket uh, wehave princess registration
coming up in just a week and ahalf.
If that is a race that you areinterested in participating in,
be sure to join our princesshalf marathon community chat
over on facebook.
I know there's a great dialoguealready going on in that chat,
(01:15:06):
but that's where everyone willcongregate day of registration
to make sure that as manyfriends as possible get into
that particular run, disney raceweekend and, like in the last
couple of registrations um, whenwe'll double check with bob
next week, but usually he alsolikes going live on zoom as well
(01:15:28):
too.
Uh, so that way people can chatabout.
You know, oh, I have a linkthat has this many minutes or
something like that and it's youknow, the last year or so these
chats have been helping peoplevery successfully get into these
races.
So again, if you're going toregister on June 24th,
definitely join that chat.
(01:15:49):
Next, our buddy Emmy over at PigWorks in Cincinnati.
It's on our Facebook page.
(01:16:21):
But if you use that code, thatwill get you a 10% discount
again, because I know they havea ton of races and a ton of
challenges, so be sure to usethat.
But she also did go on to saythat if you are a current or
former member of our armedservices, a first responder, a
nurse or a teacher, send anemail to registration at flying
(01:16:47):
pig marathon dot com for an evengreater discount.
For an even greater discount.
And, last but not least, ourfavorite Costco employee,
gretchen, posted on our Facebookpage the other day that she
just wanted to give a reminderthat the lottery and this is
crazy, that there's a lotteryfor a virtual run, but that the
(01:17:10):
lottery for the virtual optionof the New York City Marathon in
2025 opens today, day ofrelease, and closes on June 18th
, and those names will be drawnon June 25th.
(01:17:31):
So if you're selected for thevirtual option in 2025, and as
long as you run the 26.2 andprovide New York Roadrunners the
proof that you did the distance, that will get you a guaranteed
bib to run the race in personin 2026.
(01:17:52):
If you are a member of the NewYork Roadrunners, it is $175 for
the virtual option, or if youare a non-member, it is $200.
It seems like in reading thecomments of the Facebook post
that I guess they really burythis information on their
(01:18:14):
website.
So that's why Gretchen justwanted to highlight for everyone
, in case you're interested ingoing for a Abbott world major
in New York city.
Speaker 2 (01:18:24):
And also that $200 is
just for that race.
You still have to pay theregistration fee for next year
and 2026.
Speaker 1 (01:18:33):
Very, very good point
.
All right, and then, coming upon next week's episode, we have
a really, really special episodefor you.
Miss dopey herself is back.
Brittany Charbonneau will be onthe podcast.
We are also secretly hopingthat baby Hugo will also be
(01:18:53):
making an appearance on camera.
So it'd be so great to be ableto chat with Brittany and see
what she has been up to and andwhat her, what her journey into
motherhood has been like as welltoo.
So we're really looking forwardto that one.
And now it's time for the racereport.
The race report is sponsored byour wonderful friend Thomas
(01:19:15):
Stokes over at stoked metabolictraining.
Stokesfit slash, rise and runcoaching is the website, and in
just a couple of weeks uh, astom mentioned a couple of weeks
ago he'll be starting his nexteight-week challenge.
That will begin on july 7th andif you are one of the first 20
(01:19:35):
Rise and Runners to register, you will get a free one-on-one
call with Tom.
And again, if you areinterested in that particular
challenge, the cost is $47.
Again, stokesfit, slashriseandruncoaching.
Speaker 4 (01:19:53):
And it's not a bad
deal, you guys not a bad deal at
all for two months worth oftraining.
Speaker 1 (01:20:00):
Not too shabby.
All right, we start the racereport on Wednesday, which was
actually global running day.
Did everyone get out for for arun on global running day?
Speaker 4 (01:20:10):
Unknowingly, that
tracks.
Jack, that definitely tracks.
I know I went for a walk onglobal running day, unknowingly.
Speaker 1 (01:20:16):
No, like that tracks,
jack, that definitely tracks.
I know I went for a walk onglobal running day, so I I hope
that counts.
But but uh, dylan went out andshe ran the big run 5k in north
augusta, south carolina.
Now, moving to the weekend, onsat Kalo ran the Corona Del Mar
(01:20:37):
Scenic 5K in Newport Beach, orange County, california.
Then, moving back over to theother coast, ileana and Steven
ran the Lake Norman Forest RunHalf Marathon in Lake Norman,
north Carolina.
Ileana stayed with Steven upuntil mile 10, but then she let
(01:21:00):
him go and she kept her pace ashe went ahead, but she came away
with a POT with one minute tospare.
Way to go Ileana Steven.
On the other hand, he went intothis race a little bit better
prepared than he did last yearand let me tell you it really
paid off because he got a54-minute course PR and a
(01:21:28):
17-minute distance PR.
Speaker 3 (01:21:32):
Wow, nice.
That's great Way to go, steven.
Speaker 1 (01:21:35):
Yeah, we were just
talking about the New York City
virtual option, but this pastweekend was the New York
Roadrunners MasterCard New YorkMini 10K.
This is the 53rd running of therace and what's really cool I
think we talked about this lastyear, maybe two years ago, that
this was the uh, the first everwomen's only race, um, which I
(01:22:00):
think is really, really cool.
We had a couple of risingrunners there, uh, the first was
jen.
Uh, she said one day she willrun in a new york road runners
race that is not eitherextremely cold or humid.
She pr'd in sweat, glitter andglam the best kind of PR.
Crowd support at the endcarried her through and she
loved that.
(01:22:21):
The announcer shouted out herglitter and her sparkle as she
crossed the finish line.
Danielle was there Also.
Grace was there.
She says this is one of herfavorite races of the year, but
she never really races this onebetween the heat, the humidity,
the time of year, hills ofcentral park, uh, and it's a
(01:22:41):
pretty crowded course.
But as long as she's in thecity and physically able, she
will always run it.
And our last runner wascourtney.
She said even with all the heatand humidity, she got a PR.
Speaker 2 (01:22:57):
Play that monorail
bell, greg.
Speaker 1 (01:22:58):
Yes, can we talk
about that for a second?
The fact that we had a wholepost on our Facebook page this
week that the number oflisteners that did not realize
that the PR bell is the monorailding dong.
Speaker 4 (01:23:11):
Wait, really.
Speaker 1 (01:23:12):
Absolutely blew my
mind.
Yes.
Speaker 4 (01:23:14):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:23:18):
I can't unhear it all
right, but wait, jack colon, is
your reaction to the fact thatso many people didn't know, or
were you also learning for thefirst time?
No, I knew.
No, I knew.
Speaker 4 (01:23:25):
Okay, it's just to me
, I guess I it's such an iconic
sound, but I guess I canunderstand why they.
Speaker 1 (01:23:33):
I can understand
where they're coming from,
though yeah, okay, all right, wenow move down to a special
place that near and dear to allrun disney runners, orlando,
florida, for the ninth annualcommunity uh rainbow run, and
(01:23:53):
this is an event that is run inhonor of the absolutely tragic
events that happened at thePulse nightclub mass shooting
several years ago.
Jessica ran this race.
She said, even though it is anuntimed charity run, she is
pretty sure that she beat hertime from last year, which is
pretty cool.
Christian was also there.
(01:24:13):
He felt a sense of love, community and belonging.
And Tracy was also there.
She said it was hot but notunbearable.
She loved running through thebubbles and she channeled her
inner Aaron by petting all ofthe dogs that were on the course
, who were also incrediblydressed up for the occasion.
(01:24:35):
Pretty darn cool In Wentworth, nova Scotia.
It was a weekend in Wentworthand one of my customized buddies
, laurie, was at this race.
She originally wanted to runthe 100K that was part of this
event.
To run the 100k that was partof this event, but due to a
(01:24:59):
family wedding, uh, she only hadthe time, um, to finish six
loops of the four and a halfkilometer course.
Uh, but don't worry, because uh, laurie is a stickler, uh, when
it comes to her training.
She did the 100k the previousweekend.
Uh, in order to make up for it,way to go.
Laurie jake ran the old porthalf marathon and 5k in portland
(01:25:23):
, maine.
Jake said that it was rainingfor the first mile but
thankfully it then did stop.
Uh, he ran the twilight 5k racein boston, boston, on Thursday
night but had to drop because ofthe 91 degree heat really made
him sick, so he was nervousabout starting out this one, but
(01:25:43):
was very proud of a 227.53finish.
Jake, even with all that, that's still good enough for
Disney POT.
Way to go.
That's still good enough forDisney POT.
Way to go.
Next up we have the Parklandsand the WLKY 5K in Louisville,
kentucky.
Sarah ran this race with hersix-year-old son, which was his
(01:26:08):
first 5K, so we know what thatmeans and what should come as no
surprise to anybody.
He is now asking about when hecan run his first run Disney
race.
So way to go, sarah and son.
Moving up to John's home statein Medford, new Jersey, was the
Johnson's Farm 5K.
(01:26:28):
Sarah was at this race and thisis Sarah's first race.
Report was a challenging runthrough the trails of a farm
that she used to visit as a kid.
She ended up helping pace arunner who she realized once
they were running a 30, 30intervals.
That's when she decided tooffer to help and pace.
(01:26:48):
So way to go, sarah.
Speaker 2 (01:26:51):
In bonus Aries,
argentina, the Ultra Marathon,
zarte, 6 Hours.
Our friend JJ ran that.
This became a goal race for JJafter a DNF in his last Ultra
and he's happy to say hefinished the race with a new PR
of 68.7 kilometers or 42.7 milesin 6 hours and as an extra
(01:27:15):
bonus, he ended up winning therace.
Speaker 1 (01:27:18):
Like he said in his
post.
Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
He turns lemons into
lemonade.
Speaker 1 (01:27:22):
Way to go.
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
JJ, that's amazing
God.
Speaker 1 (01:27:24):
He is such a great
runner.
Way to go, he's fast.
Next up in the villages inFlorida was the big run 2025
fleet fee, and Brooke was thereHeading back up to New Jersey.
In Morristown, new Jersey, wasthe Scott Coffee Morristown
(01:27:44):
Rotary 8K.
Our Camden County runnerhimself, jack Witzig, was there.
Stain in the Garden State, theAC Bungalow Beach Boardwalk
5-Miler.
Pete ran this.
He came away with two PRs atthe 5K and 5-mile distance and
(01:28:08):
he says he really enjoyedrunning on the boardwalk at AC
In Atlanta.
Indiana Never knew that therewas an Atlanta in Indiana.
Callie ran the BEX 5K.
She says it was a little racewith a few hundred people that
managed to raise over $52,000for their five chosen charities.
(01:28:32):
She ended up walking when shegot there and saw that it was
dog-friendly and she wanted tostay in the back of the pack to
see all the dogs.
Not a bad way to tackle thatrace.
Way to go.
In Potterville, michigan, thisfolks wins the award for the
best race name of the weekendand I'm going to make sure that
(01:28:54):
I enunciate this one clearly sowe don't get an explicit rating.
A.
Another clucking five K uh,sean ran this.
He said it was a great racewhere he got the chance to run
at some point during the racewith every single person that he
came with, uh, to the event.
That is pretty darn cool way toto clucking go, sean Riley.
(01:29:18):
I'm going to apologize in theevent that I butcher this one,
but Riley ran the Chillicothehalf marathon in hopefully
Chillicothe, Ohio.
This was Riley's fourth halfmarathon, but her first non-run
Disney half.
Overall.
She said that the race hurtbecause of the 95% humidity,
(01:29:38):
unexpected hills and only fivetotal water stops Not cool.
Dealing with all of that, though, she got a half-marathon
PR and she credits it all towearing her Rise and Run visor.
Way to go, riley.
Next up in the Lone Star Statein Houston, texas, our buddy
(01:30:01):
Brandy ran the Lemonade Dash andshe credits all of the holler
hypes that she got during therace for saving her on a warm
run where she earned the tiniestmedal.
I saw the photo of this.
It was very, very cute.
It was.
Saw the photo of this.
It was very, very cute.
It was about the size of adisney pin whoa yeah uh, she saw
(01:30:21):
, uh, her friends jennifer andaudra at the race, who also
convinced her to sign up for aprincess in two weeks.
So I'm very happy to hear thisbecause for once, brandy is
going to be making a run disneydecision.
That is not my fault, it'sthese other ladies fault now in
asheville, north carolina.
Speaker 5 (01:30:43):
Jimmy was there.
He ran the flying squirrel 10miler.
Despite as much of training asI gave him.
He said no amount of trainingwould have prepared him for this
race.
With over a thousand feet ofelevation in the first five
miles it was super, superdifficult.
But once he got to the top hesaid that the views were amazing
.
He did send me pictures andthey were absolutely amazing and
(01:31:05):
he came away with a four minutePR.
Congratulations, Jimmy.
Speaker 1 (01:31:11):
You know, alicia,
when I was reading this race
report I was like boy, he isgoing to get in trouble with
Alicia.
I almost sent him a message.
I was like are you sure youdon't want to adapt the words
that you chose for your racereports?
You?
Speaker 2 (01:31:30):
can lead a horse to
order, but you can't make it
drink.
Speaker 1 (01:31:33):
Touche.
Speaker 2 (01:31:35):
Jimmy, you're not a
horse, Jimmy, okay.
Speaker 1 (01:31:40):
All right.
Next up we have the CapitalCity Pride Stride 5K in Des
Moines, iowa.
Angela and Alex ran this.
The race featured a lot of dogswho were dressed up for a
pageant show at the end of theevent and they got a very cool
unicorn medal.
We now move over to MackinacIsland, michigan, for the Lilac
(01:32:04):
Festival Run and Walk.
Christina ran the 10K as part ofthis weekend.
She would recommend this racedespite the fact of not seeing
any lilacs on the course.
How can you have a lilacfestival and not have a race
that has no lilacs?
I don't understand it.
It did include great views, though, of Lake Huron, lots of
bugs and their very own versionof road apples.
(01:32:28):
Apparently, cars aren't allowedon the island, so I guess
everyone gets around on horseand bikes and stuff like that.
So that's why they have theirMichigan version of road apples.
I guess.
In Plymouth, north Carolina, helen ran the Run with the Bears
(01:32:48):
.
I mean, I don't know about youguys.
That sounds like a reallydangerous race.
Like why would they allow bearsand runners out on the same
course?
Speaker 5 (01:32:58):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:32:59):
It sounds like a huge
liability.
Maybe it's not your averagebear.
Speaker 5 (01:33:04):
Hey yo, boo-boo, I
was just going to say maybe it's
Yogi Bear and they're going tocome and have a picnic with you.
Speaker 2 (01:33:11):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (01:33:11):
Yogi picnic with you.
Oh, yogi anyway.
Uh, helen goes on to say thatthis was, uh, her first ever
non-run disney race on a flatcourse through a small historic
town and I gotta say it did haveno great.
There were no bears on thecourse, um, but it did have an
epic inflatable bear finish line, which looked really, really
cool.
All right, here's another townname that I'm probably going to
(01:33:35):
butcher.
So, uh, amy, I apologize inadvance.
In okona, milwauk, wisconsin,we had the yellow brick road 5k.
Amy goes on to say that thiswas a awesome wizard of oz
themed race where not only didshe get a PR but she also got
(01:33:58):
first in her age group and, likeI say, looking at the pictures
for a 5K, this had more themingand decorations than that
Monopoly run that we had talkedabout both in Orlando and
Atlantic City.
So, monopoly run, step up yourgame.
Speaker 2 (01:34:14):
In Fort Smith,
arkansas, where I get my
personal race report from Joeevery week.
My buddy Joe ran that he saysthe three amigos are back Too
many 70 year olds in this racefor Joe to place.
But he says that's kind of agood thing, everyone's staying
active.
But amigos Johnny got first andGary got third.
(01:34:35):
Way to go, joe, I know you'redoing good out there.
Speaker 1 (01:34:39):
Excellent work,
amigos.
In Baltimore, maryland, it wasthe Baltimore 10 miler.
Our buddy Tara was there.
She wants to thank everyone forall of the holler hypes, as
this was her first time actuallygoing live on the app.
For all of the holler hypes, asthis was her first time
actually going live on the app.
She's also very thankful, uh,for the rain that did push
through, since it was warm andmuggy.
(01:35:00):
But, uh, what was really neatis she got the cutest little
turtle medal, um, as part ofthis race, since, uh, the
terrapin is a big staple inmaryland.
And stacy was also there, eventhough I think she pulled Jack
here, even though she lives inBaltimore, she somehow forgot
about the hills.
(01:35:20):
After completing this race, sheofficially completed the three
race big freaking deal challengewith a medal that was about the
size of something you get atSpace Coast.
It was a quite large medal.
Way to go, stacey.
Next up, we had the Run the Quay10K in Fuquay.
(01:35:45):
Verena, north Carolina.
Beth was there.
She got a PR on the hottest dayof the year but was thankful
for the local church that washanding out popsicles during the
run.
Way to go, beth.
We have the hometown half inDallas, texas, where Danielle
ran this race and she said she'sglad to be racing again and
(01:36:09):
earned a very cool medal.
That was very run Disneyinspired because it had a
spinner in the middle of it.
Way to go, danielle.
And rounding out Saturday, alsostaying in Texas, in San
Antonio, was the San AntonioGlobal Running Day 5K.
Joseph ran.
He said it was hot and humidbut got it done and, oddly
enough, even though the coursewas long by over a quarter of a
(01:36:33):
mile, he's still got third placein his age group.
All right, moving on to our onlybig weekend event on the race
report, and that was a race thatis put on by we had them on a
couple of months ago our friendsover at Vacation Races.
This weekend was the GrandTeton Half Marathon in 5K in
(01:36:56):
Wilson, wyoming, and I believethis is a run that Alexi has
done herself.
We had a bunch of risingrunners there doing the Moose
Double, which is the halfmarathon in the 5K.
Our friend Mary was there.
She said this was state number10 in her quest to get all 50.
During the 5K she thought thatthe race organizers were trying
(01:37:18):
to kill her because over halfthe race was uphill on a
mountain in some moderatetechnical coursing, so during
the half her legs were quiteheavy but she was able to help
pace someone to their first halfmarathon.
I think that's one of myfavorite things that I love
(01:37:39):
seeing in the race report is thenumber of people that are
willing to help out others, especially first timers, on the
course.
I think that really goes toshow what an incredible
community that we do have hereat Rise and Run.
Brandy also ran the MooseDouble.
Ellie also was here thisweekend but just ran the half
(01:38:01):
marathon.
They said that they love thisvacation races event and, as
someone from Texas, they madesure to take time to soak in all
of the sights of the mountains.
Way to go, everyone out inWyoming.
Moving to Sunday, once again wehead back to the Garden State,
the great state of New Jersey.
(01:38:23):
You got it.
This guy that I know named John, ran the Fitzgerald 5K Lager
Run and we're so thrilled tohave John here on the podcast to
give us a live race report.
Uh, john, welcome to welcome torise and run first time on the
podcast guys.
This is great first time longtime yes, I'm excited, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
So, uh, this race ran
on a sunday night.
Uh, it runs on where I run mytraining runs usually.
So I figured if I'm going torun Sunday on that street, I'll
just sign up for the race, whichI've done in the past.
It's a nice little race.
It starts, it's got a I don'tsay, I don't say little, just
(01:39:08):
about a thousand people run the5k, which seems like a lot for
this, for a 5 K in my area, butit's, it was a fun race.
Uh, starts out this, this, this, this loop.
But the good thing about thisrace is that it's I run this
race backwards, let's say, because usually I'm running in
(01:39:29):
the opposite directions of this,of this, of this race when I do
my training run.
So it seems like a whole newtraining run because I've it
looks totally familiar comingfrom the opposite directions.
I had a good time.
It, you know, did my my time.
Um, I did my 30 thirties, had agood time, was happy with what,
(01:39:50):
my my pace.
After the race, philly uh,pretzel Factory, pretzels Only
problem, a little cold, but youknow they were still good.
Speaker 1 (01:40:01):
Is that a violation,
though, to have Philadelphia
pretzels in New Jersey, especially northern Jersey?
Speaker 2 (01:40:07):
No, there's a couple
of them up by May now.
Speaker 1 (01:40:10):
Oh, okay.
Yeah, I mean I know you canfranchise them out, but I don't
know I mean New York's got theirown pretzels.
I mean I know it's not NewJersey pretzels that are New
York pretzels, but I like thePhilly pretzels.
Speaker 2 (01:40:22):
I mean you know, but
still, like I said before, you
got to get the charcoal and theon top of the heat and much of
that charcoal taste.
But yeah, pretzels afterwards,beer, watermelon.
It was a nice little race.
I mean it was fun.
So I'm happy about it andhopefully use it as my training
(01:40:43):
run for this week.
Speaker 1 (01:40:44):
Did they have any
watermelon beer?
Speaker 2 (01:40:47):
No, it was just a
light lager.
That was the beer.
Speaker 1 (01:40:49):
Oh, okay, a.
Speaker 2 (01:40:49):
Wilkin Brewery
Company.
It was nice, I mean All right.
Speaker 1 (01:40:52):
Well, john, I have a
recommendation for you If you
ever want to mix the two ofthose together.
My favorite watermelon beer is21st Amendment Brewing.
They're based out of SanFrancisco.
It's called Heller High Water.
Very, very good.
You should give it a try.
Speaker 2 (01:41:09):
Heller High Water
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:41:10):
Yeah Well, great job,
john.
We're really proud of you andwe can't wait to hear about your
runs in the future.
We're now going to go acrossthe pond to the person who gave
us our intro for this week.
Heather ran the South End HalfMarathon in Essex, united
(01:41:30):
Kingdom, which is about an houroutside of London.
With Heather running late, thatresulted in her leaving her
breakfast in the fridge, but shedid a dead last start which
helped her bump into an oldfriend who was volunteering at
the finish.
The route is a double out andback loop by run, walk, running,
running.
She.
(01:41:50):
Uh, it was amazing for her asshe found herself passing other
people while she was keeping, uh, keeping her intervals pretty
even way to go, heather.
We head now to the windy city, chicago, illinois, for the run
for the zoo, lincoln park zoo.
Laura was at this race.
She completed as a fun run.
(01:42:12):
Uh, and you know, I guess youcould call this one run disney
adjacent because it did have acharacter stop at the end where
you could get a photo with thepanda express panda in one of my
favorite cities.
Uh, to visit charlottesville, virginia, david ran the bruce
(01:42:33):
barnes mile, he said, despite asteady rain and feeling burnout
around the second half mile.
He got second in his age groupand this was his first ever one
mile race, so that's a pr.
Moving on to provincetown, massMassachusetts, we had the Feet
(01:42:55):
Over Front Street 5K Pride Runand Walk.
Our friend Beth was there.
Beth says that this was a small, local and well-run race that
ran through the downtown and thepier, with a delicious brunch
at the end.
Beth and her fiancé Diane tiedfor third place women overall.
(01:43:17):
Way to go, and they were ableto connect with some other Run
Disney runners because she waswearing her rainbow tutu for the
event.
Way to go, beth, and I know Imentioned it last week.
But happy pride to all of thosein just an absolute amazing
community.
So I hope you're having the bestpride month ever happy pride
(01:43:40):
wrapping up, sunday in seattle, washington, we had the great
ferry race half marathon.
Vanessa ran that this was herfirst trail run at the half
marathon distance.
Uh, and she definitely has somelearning to do.
Runners have the option to meetup in Seattle and then ferry
over to Bainbridge Island tostart.
(01:44:00):
The race Starts by running offof the ferry up an incline.
She goes on to say that therewere gorgeous trails.
Of course you know the coursewas very hilly.
Not much support as it was acoupless race, but she just
wanted to finish.
Not much support as it was acoupless race but she just
wanted to finish and she did inabout two hours and 45 minutes,
but she said it felt like fourhours.
But, vanessa, way to go.
(01:44:26):
And then our last race for thisweek's race report happened on
Monday.
Megan ran the five Miller atHeckler State Park in Islip, new
York Park in Islip, new York.
Megan went on to say thatMonday night began the New York
State Parks Summer Run Series onLong Island, which she's
excited is back for its thirdyear.
This is a race series thathosts a race on each Monday
(01:44:46):
night during the summer at adifferent state park with a wide
variety of distances.
The series has snacks, icecream, beer available for all
the runners, and she just lovesthese races and is looking
forward to more.
So congratulations, megan, inall of our runners in this
week's race report.
All right, folks.
(01:45:07):
Well, that's going to do it forepisode 194 of the Rise and Run
