Andy sits down with Mike Zighelboim, co founder of Coconut Cartel (along with his sister Dani). The company specializes in rum cut to proof with freshly harvested coconut water from Latin America and is now distributed in 18 states and 5 countries. In 2012 the story began with Mike smuggling coconuts from an island off the coast of El Salvador to some of the best hotels and restaurants in South Florida. What began as a boozy coconut cocktail for Miami’s elite has since evolved into a highly popular and premium rum brand. Mike speaks to his vision for the brand’s future, sketchy helicopter/prop plane rides, moving product through international customs, doing business in Latin America, and his insights on the spirits industry.
