complex world of employeebenefits, healthcare innovation,
and everything in between.
Today we have our special guest,Kristin Sta.
From Primary Health Partners, aleader in direct primary care or
DCPA model that's redefining howpeople access healthcare.
(00:38):
Hi Kristen.
Thank you so much for coming on.
And before we get started, whydon't you tell us a little bit
about yourself.
kristin-_1_07-08-20 (00:45):
Absolutely.
First, thank you for having meon today.
It's such a privilege to bespeaking with you, on the
personal side.
I live in Oklahoma.
With my husband and twochildren, and I have an
18-year-old daughter who justgraduated college or high school
I, I'm sorry, and will beheading off to college in the
fall.
So that's gonna be a largechange for my family coming up
(01:06):
this year.
But she'll be heading off on arodeo scholarship.
So
fbmc-production_1_07-08-202 (01:10):
Oh,
so fun.
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_121 (01:12):
area.
Yeah.
fbmc-production_1_07-08-2 (01:13):
Where
is she going?
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_121 (01:15):
She's
going to a little college in the
west panhandle of Texas calledClariton.
fbmc-production_1_07-08-2 (01:20):
Okay.
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_1215 (01:21):
they
have a really, really strong
rodeo team out there, and soshe's very excited to, to gain
the experience.
fbmc-production_1_07-08- (01:27):
That's
awesome.
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_121 (01:28):
Yeah.
And then I've got a 15-year-oldson who will be going in as a
sophomore into high school thisyear and he is all about
anything basketball andbaseball.
So we keep ourselves pretty busy'cause we are obviously big
outdoors family that enjoyanything and everything.
From the water to travel and weactually just got back from
(01:49):
Greece and Italy, so that was agreat trip.
And, but yeah, so that's kind ofme on the personal side
professionally.
I started off as an entrepreneurin the retail space and then
transitioned into medical salesback in 2012.
I quickly learned from therethat how insurance can impact
individuals lives, good or bad.
Whether it was working in theprosthetics world and helping
(02:12):
amputees or in the orthopedicspace, insurance was either
helpful or a pain point for boththe doctors and the patients.
So when Primary Health Partnerscame and reached out to me last
year.
I just knew that it wassomething that I was really
going to be able to stand behindand was very excited to be a
part of as the head of businessdevelopment.
my team and I are responsiblefor partnering with employer
(02:32):
groups and brokers across thecountry and to help lower their
claim spend and spreading theword about direct primary care
is a huge part of my job.
fbmc-production_1_07-08- (02:43):
That's
fantastic.
Thank you for that backgroundand it's.
Said you have a, um, you startedoff in retail entrepreneurship
actually my husband and I own asporting goods store, played
against sports also.
So I am familiar with bothworlds as well.
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_121 (02:58):
Yeah.
Yeah, a tough world, but it's afun one.
fbmc-production_1_07-08-2 (03:01):
yeah,
definitely.
For those that listeners thatmight not know, can you tell us
what is Direct primary care andhow does Primary Health Partners
fit into that landscape?
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_121 (03:12):
Yeah,
so the direct primary care is a
membership based healthcaremodel.
It removes the insurancebilling, it provides unlimited
access to primary care for oneflat monthly fee.
fbmc-production_1_07-08-2 (03:26):
Okay,
perfect.
What a refreshing approach andespecially in today's healthcare
environment where access canfeel like such a big hurdle.
What do you find that surprisespatients or employer, employers
the first time they experienceprimary health partners?
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_1215 (03:43):
it's
unique compared to what most
have experienced, I would saythe moment they walk in the
door, it's not gonna be yoursterile doctor's office that
you're probably used to.
You're probably gonna be, you'regonna be greeted by name.
Your wait time is going to besignificantly less.
You probably won't wait at allto tell you the truth.
The larger and longerappointment sizes.
(04:06):
Due to the reduced panel size ofour doctors and no copays.
I would say the biggest benefitI personally have experienced is
not having to utilize urgentcare emergency room.
When something does come upafter hours or on the weekends,
I'm able to access my doctordirectly and receive the care
(04:29):
that I need without most of thetime leaving my home.
fbmc-production_1_07-08-2025 (04:32):
So
what about from the employer
side?
Where should employer, why wouldemployers consider using a
direct primary care model likePrimary Health Partners to their
benefits offering?
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_121 (04:44):
Yeah,
there's multiple reasons and
that's kind of the fun partabout doing something like this
and really, expanding andelaborating and educating
employer groups right now.
But the biggest overall, Ithink, benefits that they would
immediately see within thatfirst year is reduced overall
claims cost decreased outpatientcare, virtual or in-office
(05:06):
appointments.
So that's going to help youremployees stay on the job
longer, you know, less time offwork, trying to receive the care
that they need.
implo improved employeesatisfaction and productivity.
Overall, like a healthierworkforce.
We also are partnered with DPCclinics across the country, so
(05:26):
we can provide care to any groupof any size.
And so we really are nimble andin some ways customizable.
fbmc-production_1_07-08-20 (05:34):
When
you say, in some ways
customizable.
Can you expand on that a little?
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_121 (05:39):
Yeah,
so we can be integrated into
your plans.
We can be added as a standaloneoption.
It's really whatever yourcurrent benefit package and plan
is, we can come in and fit intoit or alongside it.
So there's lots of ways andother.
Areas that we can also expand onand elaborate for them to start
(06:00):
utilizing on their benefit side.
fbmc-production_1_07-0 (06:02):
Alright,
so let's dig deeper into the
experience itself.
If I'm an employee using PrimaryHealth Partners for the first
time, what does that look like?
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_121510 (06:11):
So
the experience is pretty easy.
They'll receive a signup linkthat will be sent out to the
employees, whether that's aoption that they can opt into,
or if the employer group decidesthat they want to offer this to
all employees.
But that link will be then sentto them, and it's a quick.
Three to five minute process tocomplete.
(06:31):
At that point in time.
They'll be also be able to readall of the doctor's bios, pick
the doctor they want, and goahead and get the first
appointment scheduled for them.
If they're having a hard timekind of deciding between which
doctor they possibly would liketo see.
They have the freedom to callthose clinics and ask for a
quick little meet and greet.
Our doctors will come out andgive about 10 to 15 minutes to
(06:53):
answer any questions, and thatallows the patient or the future
patient to really experiencewhat it is that they're looking
for and pick correctly for theirhealthcare needs.
fbmc-production_1_07-08-20 (07:04):
Wow,
that's nice for them to have
that option.
And I guess that kind of tiesinto some of that customization
as well.
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_121510 (07:10):
A
hundred percent.
fbmc-production_1_07-08-2025 (07:12):
So
I love that you mentioned
chronic disease management.
That's such a critical and oftenoverlooked component of
healthcare today.
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_12151 (07:20):
Oh,
oh my gosh.
The chronic disease side issomething that I think a lot of
people get.
Probably are used to having tobe referred out to another You
know, it's that point whereyou're probably seeing your
primary care doctor and you havesomething that needs to be
addressed, but the doctor justsimply doesn't have the time.
(07:40):
Um, what Primary health partnersor a DPC, um, clinic is really
going to provide is the abilityfor that primary care doctor to,
dive into those, those chronicdisease.
Care needs that, that patient'sneeding instead of having to
send them out to a specialist.
(08:00):
So that's one way that we alsoreduce the claim cost on the
backside, is that they're notgoing to be sent out and
referred to as many specialistsas they probably are right now,
but our doctors are going tohandle all of the chronic
disease management for that, whether that's weight loss
whether that's diabetes, youknow, there's a wide array.
Of areas that our primary caredoctors are able to actually
(08:24):
treat.
And unfortunately what we seetoday is that they just don't
simply have the time to do thatin your traditional space and at
Primary Health Partners or theDPC space, we really allow our
doctors to have that patientrelationship based care.
fbmc-production_1_07-08-2025_ (08:41):
I
mean, not only is it that they
get to build that relationship, which is a major perk, but also
I'm, I imagine that in thetypical space that if you have
to go and get referred tosomebody else, a lot of people
probably never do it.
They probably just stop theprocess there and it never, and
then their, you know, theirhealth might suffer from that.
I mean, the convenience factoris just so great too.
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_12151 (09:05):
And
that's really, something that
probably.
I mean, myself as a patientwouldn't like to admit about
myself.
But unfortunately prior tocoming on board with Primary
Health Partners I was one ofthem.
And it just got to the pointwhere it was so difficult.
My husband, myself, my daughterand I we're kind of the fun
(09:25):
complex patients.
We have lots of reallyinteresting little areas.
My daughter has lupus at the,you know, developing at 16 when
it started.
And that's a really hard diseaseto, to pinpoint and to also
treat, and us being able toreally.
in on having one doctor and thenhaving that ease of access to
(09:49):
them, whether it's after hoursor during the weekend has
changed the way my ownhealthcare is working for me and
the ability to stay healthierand not, worry so much about
what is taking place within mybody because I know that I'm
gonna be able to get itaddressed and not have to wait
(10:10):
three to six months to see adoctor.
And then at that point we couldbe going into something else.
We're seeing healthier outcomesand patients with less issues
coming back into the workforce.
So that's really a strong pointthat we are proud of.
fbmc-production_1_07 (10:26):
Absolutely
as you should be.
It sounds like a major perk foreveryone.
So I think I, I would be withyou in that same boat, like if I
had, to be referred a lot oftimes I would probably just not.
And it, I'm sure we're not theonly ones, so that's great.
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_12 (10:42):
Agree.
Yeah it's more common than not,I think unfortunately.
And, and that's what we're outto make sure we're changing.
fbmc-production_1_0 (10:48):
Absolutely.
kristin-_1_07-08-2025 (10:49):
everybody
deserves to have ease of access
to their care and their careprovider.
And it's just, unfortunatelywe've just been trained out of
that over, the past couple ofyears and with what we have seen
in the traditional networksettings and us breaking that
mold is something, like I said,we're very proud of, but we feel
is a big component of why we'reable to provide such high level
(11:13):
of in quality of care.
fbmc-production_1_0 (11:15):
Absolutely.
So what's next for PrimaryHealth Partners?
Do you guys have any newinitiatives or expansion plans?
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_121 (11:22):
there
are lots of exciting things that
are going to be coming down.
The pipeline for primary healthpartners, I would say the.
Biggest piece that I'm veryexcited about is the big new
beautiful bill that was passedlast week.
This bill is going to allow foryour HSA funds to directly pay
(11:44):
for a direct primary caremembership now starting January
of 26.
And that's just gonna open up.
So many doors for us as apartner for those employer
groups The same time, so manymore doors for those employees
that have the HSA funds to beable to tap into and utilize now
with their direct primary careor primary health partners
(12:05):
membership that they have.
So I would say that's probablyone of the biggest new pieces
that just came out last weekthat we are super excited about.
Expansion is always somethingthat Primary Health Partners is
looking for, and we're gonnacontinue to do, we have over 500
partnered clinics on the DPCside across the country.
So we're really able to takecare, like I said earlier, of
(12:27):
any group of any size.
And we're gonna continue thatexpansion with the brick and
mortar portion of our ownprobably in the next year or so
fbmc-production_1_07-08-2 (12:35):
Okay.
Where's the first stop of that?
Brick and mortar.
Do you guys know yet?
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_1215 (12:39):
that
you'll have to wait and see.
fbmc-production_1_07-08-2 (12:41):
Okay.
Awesome.
So before we wrap up, is thereanything else you'd like our
listeners to know?
kristin-_1_07-08-2025_121510 (12:49):
I
would say to remember that
there's options, things arechanging and there's a lot of
exciting new things coming outin the healthcare world.
And the DPC space is going tocontinue to push the envelope
and really creating.
New avenues for employer groups, employees to be able to access
and to start really controllingtheir claim spend and kind of a
(13:11):
cost containment portion forthat every year.
And so I would say continuelooking for new things and be
open to'em all because there'ssome really good things that are
coming down the pipeline in allarea of the benefit world.
fbmc-production_1_07-0 (13:24):
Awesome.
That's so true, and thank you somuch.
Thanks for joining us, and yourstory is such a great reminder
that strong benefits authenticleadership and intentional
culture can grow and grow morethan just a business, but a.

And before we wrap up, can yougive a shout out to your website
(13:46):
