Speaker 1 (00:19):
Well, it's time for
Road Adventures with Cycling Men
of Leisure, the podcast forcyclists who understand that
riding is not just about gettingto the destination, but the
experience along the way.
Now here are the originalCycling Men of Leisure Adam and
Michael.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Welcome to Road
Adventures of Cycling Men of
Leisure.
As usual, I am Adam and today Iam joined with a man who I, sir
, am proud of.
I have seen some miles onStrava by you and I am proud of
you, my good friend from CentralTime, mr Michael Sharp.
Welcome, buddy.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Thank you very much.
Greetings everyone.
Thank you, sir.
I don't think you were usingthe right words.
I think you were meaning to sayyou were shocked the fact that
you saw that I was putting somemiles on Strava.
I didn't want to be rude, butyes, I was.
Let's just call it for what itis.
He was shocked.
(01:14):
But you know, I have not had alot of time to get out on the
roads and actually the streetthat I live on is closed because
they've been doing roadconstruction for four working
towards five months now.
Not that there's not otherroads, but they're doing a lot
of stuff around my town andthere's not a lot of good places
to ride, which we've talkedabout before, and my time
(01:37):
constraints are really difficult.
So I've been trying to make ita point to get on Peloton and
ride, peloton and ride, and afew episodes ago I talked about
how I get.
I can't do it very long becauseI realize I'm looking at the
time or I'm looking at thedistance, and I spend most of my
time looking at those twopoints.
What I found out on Peloton isyou can touch those and those
(02:00):
will go away.
And so if I'm not looking at mytime or my distance, then I, if
I just focus on the instructor,uh, on the music, uh, I've been
doing a lot of their rides.
They do rides around the worldwhere it's like a 15 or 20 or 30
or 45 minute ride, differentplaces.
I think I told you the otherday I wrote in Dublin and just
(02:20):
so happened as I'm writing, it'slike I know that play it was
the Guinness distillery or theGuinness brewery.
You ride right by it on theride.
So been more successful thisyear, been getting in a lot of
30-minute rides, so it's beengood.
I don't think that's going toreally replace the actual road
thing, but maybe it does, because I got an instructor
(02:43):
there yelling pick it up, pickit up, pick it up.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
So we'll see.
And does that?
Does that bike go up and downfor elevation?
I forget it does not.
It does not you do the wholething with resistance.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Okay, when you get to
hills and you know the
instructor, they have differentclasses for different things.
They sometimes just have hillsor intervals or whatever.
And're telling you, okay, here's where we, I want you to
be.
You know, here's your littleparameters you should be within
and for as far as resistance, and here's your parameters for,
uh, cadence.
And so they're always, like youknow, pushing you and that type
(03:17):
of thing.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
So so I have the um
s22i, which is the um I fit
Nordic track version, whichdoesn't mean anything.
I don't use it so, um, it holdsgood in that room, it does look
good in there and thehandlebars hold hangers from
stuff when I'm trying to drysomething, but, um, but it does
(03:41):
have where when you go up a Hill, uh, it extends the fork up and
down and so, and that's nottrue, I did use it some in the
winter, but I just, man, after awhile, I get, you know, as
everybody knows who knows me orwho's been listening to the show
, you know I've been on a healthjourney and so I've been
working out every day.
Sure, but it just gets soboring sitting in that room and,
(04:09):
um, you know, I was even, youknow.
You know I like to go hiking inthe winter and stuff and so,
but even just sitting on thebike, I get what you're saying.
It's just, it's difficult forme and I see, like some, some
guys that were on our team lastyear, um, italo, man, they were
doing like 100k rides on themtrainers.
I'm like, man, you are a betterman than me, so, but I've been
(04:29):
proud of you.
So, yes, to tell you the truth,it was a little bit of a shock.
I was on Strava and I was justkind of looking at a couple of
things and supporting some teammembers of ours.
You know we do have the Cyclingman of Leisure Strava page.
So if you're curious, we dohave a club
cyclingmanofleisurecom page.
So if you're curious, we dohave a club and it's actually
(04:50):
you can see the feed right fromour website,
cyclingmanofleisurecom.
There is a feed right on there, and so I was looking at some of
our team members to say, ohlook, who's training, whatever,
and wouldn't you know it?
There was Mr Michael Sharp.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Now, let's be honest.
The first thing that wentthrough your mind is my daughter
is using my sign-on.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
There might have been
a part of me that thought that
maybe it wasn't Somebody else islogging in under his sign-on in
that household.
No, but it is me.
It was during school hours.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
You know there's been
years where we went and done
Georgia and Iowa and I haven'tgot a lot of writing in.
I have been very transparentabout, oh, I didn't get a lot of
writing in that kind of thingand I can wing those rides and,
you know, get through them acouple of times.
You know sometimes I'm notlooking pretty doing it, but I
can, you know, if need be andI'm not saying everyone should
(05:41):
be out there training, includingmyself, because that's not the
way to do it, but I've done itthat way before.
But in July we're headed toIndiana and we're doing 165
miles in one day and we've bothdone those rides before.
And yeah, we're going to needsome, definitely need some some
(06:04):
uh, heavy duty training for that.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
So that's my you know
, I've noticed that no one
signed up with us yeah, hey, come on out and join us.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Where are you riding?
Rain it's right across indiana.
Oh wow, is that a week-longright?
No, it's a day ride.
One day oh man, look man, lookat that, I've got something very
important scheduled.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Somebody find me
something to do.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
I completely
understand.
It is not everybody's cup oftea, even within the cycling
community.
Those long endurance rides,single-day rides, not
everybody's cup of tea, I getthat.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
No, it's definitely.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
It's okay.
You don't need to ride it,because guess what?
We'll take pictures and and uhreport back on how it went, so
you don't even need to be there17th and you can go to
rainrideorg and check it out,and the boys of leisure won't be
(07:12):
leisure, but they'll be there.
Where's that right end?
It ends on the east side of thestate, do you know?
Yeah, terre Haute to Starts inTerre Haute.
Richmond right, richmond.
So if there's any listeners outin Richmond, you want to come
out and cheer us on.
I suspect we'll be coming overthat line at about 7.30 in the
afternoon or the evening, Ishould say.
(07:33):
So come out and cheer us on.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Don't you have a box
of cowbells?
We could send somebody acowbell.
I have a case of cowbells in mygarage.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
I remember seeing
those.
We have a case of cowbells inmy garage.
I remember seeing those.
We can brand those with cyclingmen or women of leisure and you
can ring your cowbell for us,Because that's how fast we're
going to be going.
It's not a race and we don't doanything necessarily fast, so
the important thing is we'regoing to get it done.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
So when we were doing
some prep work for the show and
we've mentioned mentionedbefore usually the night before
we record we kind of lay out anoutline.
We were at the rainrideorg lastnight and I saw that it said uh
, 2024 results, results for what?
It should be dnf or df.
It shouldn't be a race.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
So yeah, they, they
keep track of this, this
particular ride.
You know we've done, doneMichigan and others where you've
done a hundred and you know 60to 165 miles in a day and that
don't keep track.
This one likes to keep track ofyour time, right?
Uh, you know, and thatmotivates some people, that
doesn't really motivate me.
Uh, I'm not trying to break anyland speed records.
(08:42):
I don't have anything to prove.
I just want to get the 165miles under my belt.
That's going to be the importantthing, yeah, and I have from 7
in the morning until what 9 inthe evening to do it.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
I think it's 5 in the
morning, is it?
Yeah, probably earlier.
I could be wrong, I don't know.
I better not misspeak, so Ithink you go pretty darn early,
so maybe you're right, maybeit's 7 to 9 o'clock, I think it
is earlier because obviouslyit's July in the Midwest.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
So probably be a good
idea.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
I'm looking, let's
see here.
Well, might have to look at itsome other time.
What are you looking for?
Oh, just the time it said.
Oh, oh, saturday morningschedule start time.
I'm looking.
(09:41):
I apologize, I can't find it.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Oh well.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
We'll update that.
It's early in the morning, it'spretty early Get them a rolling
.
So usually it says like theroute opens up at a certain time
or whatever.
But all good, so we will findthat we can update at the next
time we get a break.
Um, let's see here.
(10:11):
I do have a graphic for this.
I'm always slacking here is ournot dancing santa, is it?
No, no, no, this is the uh, ouryoutube friends, I think we all
have that For our.
YouTube fans, our leisurecommunity Got a couple updates.
All right, I'm going to startwith the executive director of
(10:34):
Bragg, mr Franklin Johnson, andhis wife Heather.
They've been in Croatiascouting for their ride.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Yeah, now there's a
job right there for their ride.
Yeah, now there's a job rightthere.
I'm in Croatia with my wifescouting for a ride.
I blew it.
That's the gig I should havegot, not that.
Now, franklin, I know you'relistening, I know you're getting
the job done and all that, butlet me tell you, when I look at
those pictures, it's like whew, looks like you are working
(11:03):
really hard.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
The one where they're
jumping up and down, where both
of their legs are in the airand I'm like, yeah, here I am at
work and salivating over yourblue water.
And Heather was great.
She showed pictures of theirboat and accommodations and
delicious food, so they'redefinitely living it up.
(11:26):
So definitely check out bragorgfor their international rides.
So and then let's see.
Oh, our friends Walter, chris, sarah and Lacey are in Lafayette
, louisiana, with Ride Zydeco.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Zydeco, which is on
our list, which we actually
talked about this year.
It's just really an early rideso we have to kind of plan it.
But man, I'm a little jealous.
I love New Orleans.
I love Louisiana.
I really, really love the fooddown there.
I'm into crawfish and rice andthat whole nine yards.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
And the Zydeco music.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
I got no problem with
the music whatsoever, yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Bruce White.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Hey, I remember that
name.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
He's the gentleman
from the nine 11 trail that we
interviewed and followed back upwith, while on the while, out
in the middle of the ride, he iswriting Um, let me see here.
I don't want to misquote, giveme a second.
Here I got to look at something.
I believe he is riding 1,200miles.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Isn't he riding from
like?
Is it Pensacola?
Yeah, new Orleans.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
I think they're in
Destin today.
Let me see here.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
I don't know where
he's starting.
He ends up in key west.
Yes, what a ride, and this isthe perfect time to ride down
there along the coast, not toohot.
Uh, you get there before allthe vacationers and stuff move
in, so yeah at 1200 miles fromnew orleans to to key west
(13:23):
Florida.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
He's posting every
day his ride, where they've been
, where they're going.
People are seeing along the way, so that's really really cool.
His pictures look absolutelybeautiful.
They're having some greatweather.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
I've driven the coast
from like New Orleans all the
way down to well, I haven't wentall the way down to Key West,
at least driving.
But I mean that is just greatcountry down there, great
country.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
That is all I have
for this episode for our leisure
community, besides a segmentwe're going to do later in the
show which we got a lot ofinteraction with.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
but I feel like we
should separate that which is
songs to add to the playlist um,yeah, we'll we'll talk about
that a little bit later a lot ofpeople have uh have their input
on that which is they sure do.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Yeah, but every time
last time I kind of cool.
They sure do, yeah, but everytime last time I kind of blew it
.
So this time, yeah.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is nowtime for Listener Spotlight.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
All right, listener
Spotlight, let me give you the
clues to remind everybody andthis one's a hard one, but I
felt it very important to dothis because we have had people
listening from this communitysince, I think, our second or
third episode ever and theyreligiously listened to our show
(14:59):
.
So I felt we needed to uh, youknow, up the ante a little bit
and make sure that werepresented them.
But some of the clues were thecity is named for a community in
Alabama, the railroad camethrough the area in 1902, and
the city was platted in 1903.
It started as an agriculturalcommunity, but later it
(15:23):
developed with coal mining.
Today the town is part of alarger suburban area, so it's a
suburb.
It is one of the largestmanufacturing hubs in the state
that it resides in and it islocated within a native people's
(15:44):
reservation.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
St Louis.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Oh, so not close.
Thanks for playing Just a bitoutside.
All right.
Our listener spotlight ishighlighting the community of
Broken Arrow, oklahoma, wow.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Broken.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Arrow.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Well thank you
listeners from Broken Arrow.
Thank you all listeners, but,as always, thank you listeners
in Broken Arrow, oklahoma.
Tell me about Broken Arrow, oklahoma, well.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
I'm glad you asked
because I'll give you a few
facts about Broken Arrow.
It's named after a community inAlabama.
It's actually named after anold Creek community and when I
say Creek I'm talking the nativepeople the Creek who were
expelled out of their area andbasically settled in a community
about five miles from theoriginal settlement of this town
(16:46):
.
It's a suburb of Tulsa,oklahoma.
It is the third largestmanufacturing hub in the state
of Oklahoma, located within theMuskegee Creek Reservation.
So there you go.
(17:08):
Thank you guys for listening.
It has not gone unnoticed thatyou guys are constantly
listening to every episode andwe certainly appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
We sure do.
When you were telling me aboutit last night, I was like hey,
all right, I didn't tell himwhere it was, though.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
No, I just told him
there are people who have been
listening there for a long time.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
I know Everybody
sometimes will say well, does
Michael ever tell you no way, no.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
I want you to be
genuinely shocked, or surprised
or indifferent, whatever, I wantthe natural reaction.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
Okay, I have an
update.
Rainrideorg, took me a littlebit.
While you were, I was lookingtoo, but I couldn't find it.
I found it, okay.
Rain starts at 7 am.
Oh, I was right then.
Okay, from St Mary's Road inTerre Haute, indiana, and it
finishes at Richmond At 6.55,.
(18:06):
There is a pre-ride briefing6.55,.
There is a pre-ride briefing, 7am there's a start and the
course closes at 9 pm.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
Plenty of time, so
you get 14 hours.
Now there's two things thatconcern me.
Number one the pre-, thepre-ride briefing.
Get together, briefing Fiveminutes or less.
I appreciate that.
Hey, we're going to ride.
We're riding across the state.
Follow the markers, there'ssome rest stops, knock yourself
(18:39):
out, remember, hydrate, goodluck.
The other thing that concernsme is we are starting at, like,
st Mary's Road or something.
It kind of makes it sound likethey're just going to take us
out alongside some road and dumpus out.
No, it's a college.
Oh, okay, because you know.
Hey, you boys get out righthere and start riding.
We're just in the middle ofnowhere.
Yeah, we, you're starting tocollege.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Okay, yeah, we
decided that we would stay at
the college.
Are we staying in dorms?
I think so yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
Oh, college.
Are we staying in dorms?
I think so.
Yeah, we're going to relive.
Well, you went to college alittle later in life.
We're going to relive collegelife as 19 year olds.
How about that?
Speaker 2 (19:22):
We're going to leave
your toga at home this time.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
No, we're bringing
togas.
We're going to bring some beer.
We're going to do do you know, lunch races down the hallway
when we flood the bathroom, things like that.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
It'll be great all
right, buddy, I'm I'll be happy
for you, you can remember you'resleeping so that you're well
refreshed.
But you can remember your, yourcollege days.
You're right, I did go tocollege later.
I went backwards.
I bought a house first and thenwent to school.
Nothing wrong with that, no,well, thank you for always your
(20:04):
hard work on Listener Spotlight.
I know that many enjoy it.
I was surprised.
I was combing through thesocial media and this time
everybody definitely jumped onboard with the playlist.
I think you're right.
Maybe the listener spotlightwas a little difficult and we
did not have anybody who cameout of the woodwork, so, um, it
(20:25):
was hard I'll just say one finalthing and then we'll leave it.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
But I had tried to do
this town before, but there
wasn't a lot.
I mean, there's just some townsthat there's.
I mean, I live in one of thosetowns where there's like, Hmm,
nothing much historical has everhappened, you know.
Or it's got two stoplights, yeah, but you know, there's just
there's really not a lot to sayabout it.
Um, unfortunately, I'm right onthe Kansas border.
(20:50):
So if we would have our townwould have been founded 20 years
earlier, like during the CivilWar and bleeding Kansas and
stuff, there would have probablybeen something really cool, or
Well, maybe not really cool, butsomething historical happened
here.
But it just didn't happen.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
So four dollar stores
, three, three now, yeah, just
kidding.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
And we got an extra
stoplight.
So we're moving, progressingright along.
So, all right, what do we gotnext?
Speaker 2 (21:17):
What we got next is
I'm going to give you a dealer's
choice.
I got something to talk about, okay?
So you and I made an agreementmany moons ago that this show
(21:40):
would be, uh, non-political.
We wanted to just stay evenkeeled, but I want to know
politics, I'm not talkingpolitics, I'm not talking
politics.
I promise you All right.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
I'm just making sure
we're sticking on that thing.
This is nonpolitical.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
This is just factual
data.
Okay, the administration hasput tariffs forward and I'm
watching all kinds of what?
What?
No, I'm kidding.
What no, I'm kidding.
I'm watching all kinds ofstories and articles about major
(22:15):
bike brands increasing pricesand parts, pieces, things of
this nature.
If you have decided based uponthe current situation, if you've
picked up any, any bike piecesor parts along the way, just to
(22:36):
try to either beat the price or,you know, have you decided to
put something on hold for alittle bit and just to hold back
?
I was just curious.
Either way, if you, it's adouble-ended question, but I was
just curious.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Well, first off, for
anybody who doesn't understand,
tariffs are just taxes.
Just to kind of give everybodya background, they're taxes that
goods coming into our countryhas to pay.
Okay, what that means is whenthose goods come in, whether it
be something that's beenmanufactured or raw goods, they
(23:10):
get taxed appropriately andwhatever that percentage is for
the country.
So what that means is that astariffs rise or go up, that's
going to make things moreexpensive.
So the question you ask is agood question.
Yes, that has actually affectedmy buying or my spending when
(23:32):
it comes to cycling.
Now, I wasn't going to make abig purchase like a new road
bike or anything like that, butI had a couple of small things
that I wanted to get to try outfor our new ride, and a couple
of them were off of ourChristmas wishlist.
That's like, well, you know, hey, I'll try that out, see how
(23:52):
it is.
It's something that I wouldreally be interested in, and I
will say that it was something Iactually bought both of these
things.
It's been probably at the endof February.
Okay, I was going to wait untilI got closer, but I was keeping
the kind of figuring it out andit's like, ok, well, these
(24:13):
tariffs do go into effect.
Most of this stuff is comingfrom Asia, and I know what you
know.
We basically know what thetaxes were then.
I don't necessarily know whatthey're going to be or what they
are now.
So I did go ahead and purchasethem early with the expectation
that I might get hit with a fewdollars more for the product,
(24:36):
because that's what happens, youknow.
The taxes go up.
The manufacturer then passesthat on to me.
So I did and a couple things Igot.
I believe you got one of these.
We'll do a little show and tellfor a second.
It's the, the light that has thelittle uh piece here, and if
you're not watching us onyoutube, it's basically a light,
(24:59):
very bright uh.
That has the clip-on connectionfor your uh road computer on it
.
We talked about these on ourchristmas wish list episode, uh,
and I did go ahead and buy oneof those.
And then the other thing that Igot is the cycling wallet that
we also talked about, becauseyou know, I always I generally
(25:23):
carry that like star glass casething, the what star wars.
Well, I do carry the star warswallet, but, um, this is more
for my gear that I put in myback pocket, like my, you know,
sunscreen, lip balm, um,different things like that that
I generally shove in like aglass case, and it doesn't
(25:43):
always fit.
This way I can put everything, including my phone, zip it in
there, slide it right in.
It's waterproof and I'm readyto go.
So, um, and then there was oneother thing I'm not going to
talk about that online, uh, thatI did buy cycling wise, um,
because I haven't even talked toyou about it.
So, um, but yeah, I have boughtsome things sooner than what I
(26:04):
was going to to try to avoid anyadditional costs.
How about you?
Uh, yes, I picked up some uhtubes um did you get the, the
lightweight ones that look likethey won't hold together and
yeah, yeah, the one that you andI both held away from our face
when we were blowing it out.
It was gonna explode, but it isone heck of a tube they're
(26:28):
awesome they are.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
I have, you know, I
got to get the 80 millimeter
presta, so I ordered some ofthose um.
And then what else did I?
Oh, I got, um, a pump likeyours, um, so when I do rides
around this area, um, so Idecided to get one of those, um.
And then, yeah, the light.
(26:51):
You're right, I got the light,um, which I've been, you know,
I've been out doing.
Oh, yeah, I got that right, that cyplus, the big cyclops are
cyplus.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
Well, I figured
someone likes me I could throw
it out.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
I'm like a, like a
weapon, so um but um, and then
um, yeah, that razor light orwhatever they call it, riser or
whatever it's called.
I've been, uh, using that everynight.
I've been training every night, but braveman.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
Yeah, did you get the
, the 160 or the 300?
Speaker 2 (27:25):
I think the 160, I
think 160.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
I got the 300.
Not that it matters, but itshould be kind of interesting.
So do you like it?
Speaker 2 (27:36):
I do.
Yeah, I've been using it on theflash mode.
I haven't really been using itas a light per se.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
I mean like a Well,
you're not riding it out in the
dark?
Speaker 2 (27:45):
No, no, you're just
doing it for light.
So I've been using it as aflash mode so I can be seen.
I did find one flaw with it,but it's not the flaw of the
product, it's the flaw of theperson who set up the whole
system with the arrow bars, akame, because of where I put my
mount for my computer.
It's in between the arrow bars.
(28:06):
So I did that so I couldprotect the computer arrow bar.
So I did that so I couldprotect the computer.
But with that light in there, um, you know how it curves around
the front so you people couldsee you from left and right.
Unfortunately for me, it'sright in my area, exactly if
you're looking at youtube, youcan see it curves around.
So if you're not on youtube, itfaces forward, but then it has
a curvature and left and rightside.
Because of that curvature, where your fingers are right now
(28:29):
it's it's flashing right upagainst the arrow bars as
opposed to, for a safety concern, uh, flashing out to to the um
yeah I thought about doing thisis loosening that yeah, I don't
think.
I thought about loosening it alittle bit and then lowering it,
so then it would be below thebut is that little quarter?
Speaker 3 (28:48):
of an inch light
gonna make a lot of difference
to your left and your right.
Maybe it would, I don't know,but I don't know give it a try.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Well, I see the brim
they're like.
What is that boy wearing on hishead?
Let's run him down so well, Iwas thinking when you were
saying that your uh sunscreen inyour wallet.
I'm like, well, dude, if you'dwear a brim, you wouldn't have
to wear that carcinogen.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
So I don't think you
understand that light bounces
off of things, so light canbounce off the road and go right
underneath your DeBrim Justsaying the other thing.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
That's why I usually
have a sunburn on my cheeks.
That's why I usually have asunburn on my cheeks.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
The other thing that
I did buy that came as I did buy
some new cycling men of leisuregear from our store.
I love it.
Yeah, that had nothing to dowith tariffs or anything I don't
know where that factory is from.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Is that factory from?
Oh, it's in China.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
It is.
Yes, here's the hat I boughtVery nice.
Yeah, it's in China it camefrom.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
China.
Good enough.
Well, I appreciate yousupporting our store.
Not that we get anything fromit, but thank you for supporting
our store.
Not that we get anything fromit, but thank you for supporting
our store.
So, um, I do have two articles.
(30:24):
I just wanted to quote a couplethings here, just for
interesting factors.
So bicycleretailercom on april17th said trek and electric
electra retailers were informedthursday by email that bike
prices on most models will riseimmediately because of the 10%
tariff surcharge announced April2nd, increasing costs to a
level that needs to be addressed.
And that one goes on and saysbasically this does not include
(30:47):
current stock but only new bikescoming in, which I always
complain.
When they raise gas prices I'mlike, wait a minute.
But the tank, the 10,000gallons you have in there, yes,
I'm pulling out here.
It was purchased two weeks agoExactly At the lower price, so
that was kind of cool.
And then on bikemagcom on April21st, specialized track raises
(31:09):
prices as new tariffs takeeffect.
Bike companies are beginning tofeel the impact of the new US
imposed tariffs and consumersare too.
Tariff impacts are reachingconsumers.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
But I was just curious, ifthat's you know, since we do
have a cycling and leisurepodcast, I that I could, yeah,
(31:30):
ask you some oh, the other thingI did buy is the little I
bought, the smaller cyplus airthing.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
Oh that'll be, nice
the other thing I bought too.
Um, you know, it's one of thosethings when, when, uh, you know
, I heard that they were goingto raise tariffs, I immediately
knew what that meant for us.
I mean, I understand how theywork and that kind of stuff, and
(31:58):
that that amount that's paidout has to be paid by somebody,
and typically that somebody isgoing to be me if I'm buying
that product.
So, um, yeah, I did uh do alittle bit of proactive stuff.
I mean I didn't go, you know,crazy.
It's like start hoarding stuff, you know, paper products from
Canada.
I'm going to, you know, stockup on that.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
No, I mean I didn't
go crazy, but a couple of things
that I knew I was going to get.
What's that?
I apologize?
I said I apologize.
I think one of the mostimportant things you just said
there is you know that tariffsare going to be paid by you.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
So, ladies and
gentlemen, you heard it right
here on Road Adventures ofCyclone man of Leeds.
No, I'm not going to be payingeverybody's tariffs.
No, oh, sorry.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
Not the way the
economy works, but thanks for
playing.
Yeah, well, like I said, I justwas curious, so let's get into
something a little more fun.
So our playlist, our playlist.
Also for those of you who arewatching on YouTube what do you
think of my new lights?
(33:04):
Back here, man.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
He's got some purple
changing to blue, changing to
aqua, changing to white.
He's got some lights going onback in the back.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
Yeah, put them behind
all the bourbon bottles.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
I would say it looks
groovy.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
It looks pretty cool.
So I figured I used to havethese behind my TV and so then
if something was red on theright side it would be red
behind the TV.
But I have a different version,so I had these lights and so I
thought you know what?
That'd be great for the podcast.
So if you're looking, lookright above my head, if you're
on YouTube.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
So are you going to
show the shag rug next week?
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Oh yeah, we like the
old shag.
It's so shagadelic.
So there you go.
I gotta get out my phonebecause you and I well, first of
all you and I got in trouble onyoutube but we knew we would.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Though yeah, we
figured we knew we would.
We were just seeing what wecould get away with, which
wasn't much but no, like theycaught on pretty quick so they
played it in the United States.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
So what we did is we
were playing.
I played Jerry Mungo, he played, I don't know, summer bike song
or whatever, I can't think ofit 75 seconds of the song.
Yeah, and so what they said iswe'll play it in the US, but we
won't play it in Egypt, we won'tplay it in Australia, and I'm
(34:31):
like, well, there goes theinternational listeners this
time, so um it in Egypt.
Yeah, egypt was one of the oneswhere they wouldn't play it.
I'm like, uh, okay, well, goodenough, buddy, um, but um, I, we
, we got an overwhelmingresponse of people willing to
(34:51):
give us their, their playlistand songs, which I thought was
really cool.
So, uh, I'd like to take sometime and give you a few of those
.
Yeah, let's hear them all right.
So let's see here John Rhodes.
He says that he loves long jams.
(35:14):
Long jams are nice on bike tour, such as Stranglehold by the
Motor City man man, us Blues bythe Dead and this Old Cowboy by
the Marshall Tucker Band.
I can get on board with that.
I'm a big Dave Matthews fan andso a big jam song that's, like
you know, 20 minutes long.
(35:35):
I can, I can get.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
I can get on that
board I can definitely the
attention span for that that's agood song to listen to
afterwards when you're justrelaxing, but again my attention
span is just like uh, okay, squirrel, I gotta.
You know things have to be, youknow, exactly moving fast.
I get bored too easy.
There's my problem.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
Good friend and team
member and van camper builder
and the brim wearing KeithErickson I love.
I have a huge playlist.
He says lots of oldies thatpeople get a kick out of on
Ragbri.
Here are a few.
I thought you would like thisone the Bonanza theme song yes,
(36:20):
rawhide, yeah, go ahead In thehonor of your wallet.
Star Wars, star Wars.
What about Eastbound and Down?
Speaker 3 (36:32):
Little Jerry Reid
from Smokey and the Bandit
Eastbound and Down.
That is actually currently onmy playlist.
That's a great song.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Load it up and truck
it.
Run Boy, run Top Gun, fireballOn the Road Again.
Red Solo Cup.
You fill me up, it's time for aparty.
And then Bang the Drum.
(37:03):
Many more, he says, are on thelist Spotifybroken,
spokeadventures, new ride list.
He's even giving you a cheatcode to his uh playlist.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
Well, we appreciate
that.
Uh, I can get on board withsome of those.
Um, I will admit, I do haveonly one song.
That's instrumental, like youknow, he said he had Star Wars
and he had Bonanza.
I only have one song on myentire playlist, that's
instrumental that Liberace, onethat you play no.
(37:40):
Just kidding.
Wow, no, I actually have thetheme song from the Magnificent
Seven, the original.
Okay, you know it's one ofthose westerny.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
You know they use
that same music in like 50% of
the westerns that were producedin, you know, the 1960s and 70s.
So Keith has a very importantperson to him.
He calls my wife, Melanie, ourkind of member and the brim
wearer.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
I'm not holding that
against him, please don't.
I actually am.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
But that, that, that,
that, that, that, that, that,
that, that that she says aplaylist favorite is Take Me
Home.
Country Road by John Denver.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
Little John Denver.
He can't go wrong with that.
I can get on board.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
Rome by John Denver.
Little John Denver, I can't gowrong with that.
I can get on board Rome by theBB and the way she spells it, I
guess I feel bad.
I don't know this song, ormaybe I do know, I just don't
know.
I don't the B hyphen, b E it'sa great day to be alive by
Travis Tritt, so that's a goodone.
Appreciate Melanie adding tothe list.
(38:54):
I'm looking to see if I have.
I thought I had somebody else, but maybe not.
Let's see here.
Oh yeah, we do, we do, we do.
That was, I believe, by MattRobinson.
Jump Around House of Pain.
Jump up and jump down, jumparound Getting Jiggy With it by
(39:19):
Will Smith.
Santa Monica by Everclear.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
Spiderwebs, by no
Doubt, he says Shoop by
Salt-N-Pepa Shoop shoop-a-doop.
And I love his signature.
I am what I am.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
We're not judging
anybody.
Well, Adam is, but that's okay.
I'm not judging anybody bytheir music.
Yeah, as you said about theDeBrim, I said their music, not
their fashion, completelydifferent.
But anyway, you know, everybody's got their own thing.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Do you have Ryan
Reynolds Mint mobile commercials
by you?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
My favorite commercials is likeI'm not judging anyone Well,
maybe I am.
Maybe Exactly, if you want topay more, that's fine.
I'm not judging you Well, maybeI am.
So I think that's kind of funnyfine, I'm not judging you.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
Well, maybe I am.
So I think that's kind of funny.
So, um, no, it's, it's.
Uh, it's interesting to seebecause I will admit I have no
like no rap type kind of thathip-hop stuff on my playlist.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
Gotcha, gotcha, you
know well, you know I I'm going
to go back just to mention thesejam band songs just for a
second.
You know it's funny.
I know you're not a real bigDave Matthews band fan, which is
fine, no problem.
(40:55):
But he's got some like songslike the stone or um, you know,
uh, different differentvariations, where some songs are
like 20 minutes long and theykind of, uh, they kind of have a
crescendo that goes up and thencomes back down, um, he sings
all along the watchtower and andI mean it just starts out real
(41:16):
slow.
And so when I'm pedaling and I'mby myself, training um as it
goes up, then of course I getthat feeling.
So I can, I can kind of getbehind some of those, but I
think if you listen to it in alarge group it would be like
dude, come on, let's turn to thenext song.
So it might, might be okay whenyou're you're by yourself, but,
um, and some of those songscould be nice for listening
(41:39):
afterwards, everyone's, you know.
Oh, yeah, taking a shower, sitting back, having a beer or
bourbon or Coke or maybe coffeeor whatever strikes your, face.
Speaker 3 (41:49):
I think this is what
we need to do Next time we're
having a speakeasy, we show upwith a liquor, I think we need
to say it's speake easy time andthen just break out into
playing theme song from bonanzaI love it.
Speaker 2 (42:04):
I think keith would
love to start it off I.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
It's a good song um,
before your book.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
end of listener
spotlight I.
I have two pieces ofinformation about Big Brag 2025.
So I have it on good authoritythat I'm hoping that it'll be
our next show.
I don't want to promise becausethe man is traveling back, but
Franklin has a few teasers aboutBig Brag 2025.
(42:37):
I'm holding on to someproprietary information that I
just can't say, but it's prettycool, and so he's going to come
on this show and let the cat outof the bag on a couple of
really cool things happening atBig Brag 2025.
Speaker 3 (42:55):
I got a secret about
Big Brag 2025.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
I'll tell you Okay,
go ahead, we're riding in
Georgia and there's elevation,and there's elevation.
Savannah said you boys betterhave been training, oh gosh.
My other thing about Bragg isI'm curious about something, are
(43:18):
you we?
But this show is going to comeout on the 27th april.
27th I'll be riding dawn farm,as as many listeners know if you
, if you listen to we're onseason four.
If you've listened to otherseasons, you know that I don't
always write it because it rainsor it's cold, but I definitely
support um dawn farm ride forrecovery, air for Recovery.
(43:40):
He's a fair weather cyclist.
I am a fair weather cyclist, Ifully admit it.
Last year it was cold and rain.
I had a hot coffee in my handand drove home in the heat.
Yes, sir, no problem.
Check.
Speaker 3 (43:56):
This year the weather
looks great.
Speaker 2 (43:58):
Hopefully, hopefully,
yeah, hopefully, we'll get the
support that, no matter what, they got my, my money and,
really cool, totally unexpected, don farm um and knows what it
(44:18):
stands for and um wanted to makea donation and um, due to some
personal stuff in his his life,um and helping somebody he knows
, he walked into my office andput 50 bucks on my desk and said
would you please make adonation?
So, um, I thought that wasreally cool, so, but it got me
(44:41):
thinking this is coming out onApril 27th.
Normally you're the guy thatI'm like hey, dude, I got this
packed and that packed and thispacked and we're like a week out
and you'll go.
Yeah, I haven't even startedand I never know if you're just
screwing with me, if you're justdoing it.
Speaker 3 (44:58):
No, I'm not, I'll be
Excuse me.
I'll be honest with you.
I am not most of the timescrewing with you.
I mean, I do screw with you alot, but when it comes to
packing, I tend to I'll do ittomorrow night, I'll do it the
next night.
Something comes up and then I'mtypically the guy the night
before.
That's like I should have beenin bed two hours ago.
You know right?
(45:18):
Um, yeah, I don't do a realgood job of that most of the
time, because I always think Ihave way more time than I have
and I don't.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
So saying that for
the 2025 flight to Atlanta for
you and I have you startedthrowing some stuff together.
Speaker 3 (45:42):
Surprisingly enough,
I have you started throwing some
stuff together.
Surprisingly enough, I havereally, uh, you, yeah, actually
that's why I was able to, youknow, reach down here and pull
out this other bike pump.
Okay, um, hey, look at this, there's a bike helmet.
Speaker 2 (45:58):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (45:59):
You know, I got all
sorts of my cycling.
Oh, there's a bike helmet.
Okay, you know, I got all sortsof my cycling.
Oh, there's a cycling computer.
So see, I, I'm not lying aboutit, I actually have that's cool
a big chunk of this.
And I'll tell you why.
Because about six, about a weekago because we're about five
weeks out now I started thinkingabout traveling with my bike.
(46:20):
Which, traveling with my bikenow, I mean, I remember the
first time we did it was like,oh my God, this seems very too
much.
Now it's like old hat, no bigdeal.
The problem that I have is that,um, um, the bike boxes are big.
They're designed to be pulled acertain way.
(46:41):
Uh, I have a big duffel thathas like backpack straps on it,
things like that.
Um, I absolutely hate trying toget from my vehicle to the
luggage check-in because I'mcarrying 70 pounds of weight on
my shoulders and I've got thisthing I'm lugging behind me and
(47:03):
it just doesn't flow very well.
And, of course, my bag ishitting the thing and you've got
to keep the bike box at acertain angle or else it doesn't
roll.
It's terrible.
So I dread that part of it, andthen I also dread.
When I get there to our finaldestination, then we have to get
all this stuff to the hotel.
(47:24):
So that had prompted me tofigure out new ways that I can
transport my bag and my bike boxin a much more convenient,
non-exertion sort of way.
Okay, so that got me pullingthings out, and so I didn't.
I have started early because Iwant to take some of that gear
(47:47):
and I've got a couple ideas tomaybe make this whole transport
situation easier and moreconvenient.
Speaker 2 (47:55):
Okay, so, that's why
I started early.
That's cool.
You know I've only been to yournew Kansas airport twice.
I was there with you and thenrecently, you know, I was there
for a conference.
So is it frowned upon?
I know it's frowned upon, Iknow the answer, but I'm just
wondering versus practical, versus actual Sky priority?
(48:19):
I know your sky priority, sosky priority every time, every
time, the two times I've beenthere, there's been no line in
sky priority.
Have you ever considereddriving up, taking a chance,
risking it, walking in a skypriority, dropping off the bike
and the bag and then taking andgoing back?
Or or is that just like crazy?
Speaker 3 (48:42):
No, that's actually a
good idea, and here's what I
did last time.
Actually, I've done this acouple of times.
Um, I don't trust the pull upthere and park, because you park
on the first, like the groundlevel or whatever.
Yeah, uh, or you pull up thereto depart and then, uh, you know
(49:02):
you have to go in and it'squite a ways to get to get back
in there.
Uh, I don't trust that.
You know the 15 or 16 on, uh,you know police officers that
they have on duty are not justgoing to immediately call the
tow people and by the time I geteverything back now my car is
gone and it's like I got to dealwith that.
So I never trust that becausethat's going to happen to me.
(49:25):
I'm that guy.
But what I have done the lastcouple of times is I have went
up to the the parking that'sright in front of the airport
and parked and generally I canget like in the lot row.
It's a parking garage.
I can generally get on a row onthe level that's a level that I
need to be right in front ofthe, uh, the airport.
Speaker 2 (49:48):
So then I just have
to walk over the two lanes of
traffic and get in the buildingand then go from there, and I've
done that a couple of timesBecause to be honest with you,
what I asked you to do inDetroit I would not be able to
get away with, because when you, when you depart, a Detroit and
I've done that a couple of timesramp brings you up to the top,
(50:17):
just like your airport, by theway.
Um, if you come to the top andif I were to get out and try to
go into sky priority real quick,uh, I would never make it back
before my vehicle would be towed.
So, um, but I I just know thatthe two times that I was there,
I like maybe I just got lucky, Imean, maybe I just maybe things
(50:40):
just worked out where I wasable to, you know.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
I don't want to
chance it, that's my thing.
So I'll park there, I'll takemy stuff in, check it in, go
back out to my car and uh, Ithink it costs me a dollar in
the you know 20 minutes that I'mthere, and then I'll drive my
car over to long-term parking, hop the bus, come back over, and
then I don't have to deal, I'vealready got everything checked
(51:04):
in.
I'll just go straight to, uh,you know the the fast, uh
security line and just go rightinto the airport.
So, um, it takes a little bitmore pre-planning, but it does
work out better than trying tolug that bike box and my big
duffel bag onto one of thoselittle.
You know you're a public transitguy, one of those little buses
(51:26):
and then pulling it off andstuff.
Speaker 2 (51:27):
Stand behind the
yellow standee line please.
So I talked about you at worktoday.
I said every time we go on abike trip and we go into the
town where they use the shuttlebuses and the yellow standee
line there, I'm like get behindthe yellow standee line.
It's a federal line.
Speaker 3 (51:48):
You do always call me
out.
Thank you, I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (51:51):
Well, especially the
one time we were on the bus
going across Michigan withNeil's ride with Shoreline, I
mean, literally you were justrelaxing and your leg just
barely went out.
I'm like, what are you doing?
And the driver driver knew Iwas messing with you.
They I thought that was great.
But well, uh, I too have slowlybegan, and where it came from,
(52:12):
honestly, is brag.
I don't know if it's stephanieor franklin, or maybe it's a
pre-pl post, but put the bragpacking list on Facebook.
I saw that, and so I think yousaw that too, which got me
thinking about starting togather my items.
(52:32):
I know you and I have somereally cool stuff going on and
we are not going to talk aboutthat, but we are going to talk
about it a little bit.
Speaker 3 (52:42):
Okay, we've got some
really cool stuff.
And when he says really coolstuff, we have a couple of
things that we're working thatlooks like it's gonna get
together.
A couple of special eventswe're going to be throwing, uh,
during the brag ride for ourteam, and we've got, uh, we got
(53:03):
some, some fun stuff to pass outto everybody too.
It's gonna.
Speaker 2 (53:08):
I'm excited, that's
all we're saying but I'm excited
, so, uh, all right.
With that being said, um, willyou finish us up with a listener
spotlight?
Speaker 3 (53:27):
I absolutely will.
Well, this episode's listenerspotlight.
The clues are as follows thistown was founded in the
mid-1880s.
This town was founded in themid-1880s.
The community, early on, thecommunity was likened to Italy,
(53:56):
meaning that they would, youknow, compare it to Italy.
A major development fromeconomic point of view did not
occur or did not come to thearea until World War II, when
the Army Air Force trained there.
If you let me go back here, Ididn't put these in order.
If you are into golf, which Iknow you are, this city is for
(54:21):
you 100%.
However, if you're not intogolf but you like pickleball,
this is also a great town foryou.
Hint, the Spanish conquistadorsdid not find any fountains of
(54:46):
youth or a fountain of youth.
However, if they were at thiscommunity or in this, town.
Speaker 2 (55:01):
today, they might
feel like they found the seven
cities of gold.
How's that Wow?
Speaker 3 (55:14):
Pickleball golf.
Speaker 2 (55:16):
Someone should get
this one Augusta.
No, just kidding um uh wow, conquistadors, now yeah see, now
here's going to be the problem.
Speaker 3 (55:30):
as soon as I say
conquistadors, people are
immediately going to think of acouple of certain areas or
states.
Little known fact theconquistadors got all the way up
into almost central Nebraska, just to let you know.
Okay, so, and actually Coronadohimself got here to the middle
(55:54):
of Kansas, so the conquistadorshad a pretty wide swath, bigger
than what most people wouldthink.
So I'm just saying, when youstart listening and thinking
about conquistadors and thingslike that, you know, keep an
open mind that it wasn't justlike.
You know Arizona, new Mexico, southern California, you know
(56:16):
Texas and Florida or whatever.
Speaker 2 (56:19):
Didn't they find this
is totally off script?
So was that?
I didn't hear that until last Imean last night either.
But didn't they find like likelarge boat, like in the middle
of the land where there's nowater, I mean?
Speaker 3 (56:35):
they found a couple
of those over time in a couple
of different places.
But what's what's interestingabout the conquistadors?
Um, they were all over, in fact.
Um, in a little town inNebraska where my parents used
to live when I was in college, just South of that and that's
like in central Nebraska, theconquistadors actually had a
(56:56):
battle it's documented and allthat actually had a battle.
It's documented and all thatactually had a battle with the
indigenous people and the French.
You know, right there and therewas just a place found I think
it was just south of Wichita, here a couple of years ago where
there had been rumored thishuge native village that had
(57:17):
been attacked by, you know, oneof the conquistadors and his
army, and they just thought itwas kind of.
You know, that's one of thosestories somebody tells.
But they've actually found thesite now and it matches with the
documented records of the, youknow, the friars and the
religious people that went alongto document it.
(57:38):
So it's cool, it's crazy, butthey have found boats in a
couple of places that boatsshouldn't be and the question is
, how did it get there?
Speaker 2 (57:47):
So well, with that
intriguing thought, I will say
that yesterday, sir, for me wasa great day for a bike ride,
absolutely.
