A farewell should feel dangerous. That’s where we start: not with a bracket, but with the question every fan is asking—how do you give John Cena a last match that actually means something? We pull the camera back and talk event booking, the kind that turns a date on the calendar into a knot in your stomach. From there we pitch a finale that leans on history, stakes, and a rival who can raise the room’s blood pressure in seconds.

Teddy Long brings the on-the-ground truth that only a Hall of Famer can. When he was told, “You’re taking the FU tonight,” it wasn’t panic—it was craft. He breaks down the mindset behind trust, safety, and selling big without overselling, plus why Bobby Eaton’s generosity could turn a nobody into a somebody in one look. We revisit taped vs live television, the non-negotiable work ethic that made the Horsemen era timeless, and how to carry intensity whether there are 300 fans or 15,000.

We also take a hard look at modern presentation. WWE gave Cena a surprise Intercontinental title moment while crowding his spotlight. AEW opened with a bloody women’s cage match that grabbed attention; we ask whether shock served character or overshadowed it. Along the way, we celebrate Steamboat’s longevity, swap NWA memories, and answer listener questions on Randy Orton, legacy booking, and which talents truly benefit when a legend exits.

If you care about storytelling, ring psychology, and send-offs that stick, this one’s for you. Listen, weigh in with your pick for Cena’s final opponent, and tell us how you’d book the ending. Subscribe, share with a friend who loves wrestling history, and drop a review so more fans can find the show.

SPEAKER_00 (00:24):
And it's another Thursday night.
And this, of course, means thatit's time for Road Trip After
Hours.
I'm your host, Mack Davis, andwith me each and every week,
none other than the HollaHalafama, Mr.
Teddy Long.

SPEAKER_01 (00:37):
Hey Teddy.
First thing I want to say is uhwho is doing the song, the rap
song that uh we come on with?

SPEAKER_00 (00:44):
I have no clue.
Uh it is a uh it's it's one ofthose three no no, it's one of
those free songs we can use andand use for the show.

SPEAKER_01 (00:53):
So you just so it sounds good, so you didn't care
who it was.

SPEAKER_00 (00:56):
Well, no, because they'll end up getting their
right speeds when they they'llclaim all the uh monetization on
that.

SPEAKER_01 (01:02):
So this sounds good.
I don't give a damn who whosename it is, who's saying it, but
I I like it.

SPEAKER_00 (01:08):
Yeah, I did too.
You know, it's I think I saidthis last week that I found this
place where you can use songs,uh, you know, that are not gonna
get us in trouble.
And and there's songs thatnobody else has ever heard.
So I go through them like, man, that's a I like the beat, I like
the sound of the song.
That one right there, Teddy.
I I didn't realize this untilwhen my grandkids said, Hey,
he's talking about Fortnite, which is a game or something

(01:31):
that people play.
I know nothing about Fortnite,I'm just gonna be completely
honest.
Uh, but I know it's a big deal.

SPEAKER_01 (01:37):
Well, it had it, it had a good beat.
I was giving it a little TeddyLong.
That's I like it.

SPEAKER_00 (01:42):
Now, the other part of it, the uh the second part
was a spin-off of the upcomingStranger Things uh new season
that's gonna be starting up onNetflix.
I believe it's within a coupleof weeks here.
Teddy, have you ever seen theshow Stranger Things?
No, oh man, let me tell yousomething.
You'll get hooked on that reallyquick.
It's it's not a show that Iexpected I would enjoy, but I

(02:04):
watched one the very first onein the season one.
I was like, okay, I'll watch itone more time, give it a little
bit more of a chance.
Man, I've been hooked eversince.
It's a great show.
It's it's kind of a sci-fi, youknow, kind of you know,
alternate universe kind ofthing.
But if you're into those typesof shows, uh it's really a

(02:25):
fantastic show.
It's Stranger Things.
I think it's season five startsthis month.
Uh, and uh, and then I thinkthey're gonna end up having the
finale of that show actually intheaters where you're gonna
watch it on Netflix, but thenwhen it's time for the big
finale, there's a two-hour moviethat you'll be able to go to at
the theater and watch it thereon the big screen.

(02:46):
Uh which is kind of smart,Teddy.
Think about that.
You know, movie theaters reallydon't do a whole lot of business
anymore, so you got to create anevent to draw people back into
the theater.
That's not a bad idea to go, youknow, show all these episodes on
Netflix, get everybody hyped upto see the finale, and you got
to go to the theater and see iton the big screen, which means

(03:07):
that the special effects, everything will be a lot better
if you're in that big screenarea, don't you think?

SPEAKER_01 (03:13):
Okay, are you through promoting Stranger
Things?

SPEAKER_00 (03:15):
I am, I am.
I'm just thinking about it, butman, yeah, I'm sitting here
thinking about it as we'retalking about it.
So it's I'm talking about it.
Teddy, look, this week I noticedthat uh Trish Stratus made the
news again.
Uh during a recent Pod MeetsWorld podcast, Trish Stratus
revealed that she was once askedto do a storyline where she

(03:38):
would have to kiss anotherwoman.
Trish wasn't comfortable with itand she declined.
And she said she was stripped ofher championship immediately
thereafter.
Does that surprise you at all?
I know she talked aboutsomething like this on our show
one time where she mentionedthis, but we didn't really dig

(03:58):
into it.
Uh, did you know about all thisthat when it went down?

SPEAKER_01 (04:02):
I remember vaguely something went like that, or
something she was asked to dosomething.
Uh, but I thought it wassomething where she was supposed
to kiss Vince or something.

SPEAKER_00 (04:14):
No, it's it's she says it was where she had to
kiss another woman.
Uh, and it's just like, youknow, that just wasn't her
character.
She said her character wouldn'thave done that.

SPEAKER_01 (04:23):
Uh so she's uh well, you know, uh, I I don't know
what to tell you.
You know, that the the ourbusiness is a movie.

SPEAKER_00 (04:33):
Have you ever been in a situation, Teddy, where uh
they come up to you and said,Hey, look, we we want you to do
this, and you go, mm-mm, mm-mm.
I'm not doing that.

SPEAKER_01 (04:43):
Oh, I couldn't say that.
Well, you could if you really ifyou really wanted to, but I'm
assuming they never came to if Iif I'd have said that there I'd
have really I wouldn't have toworry no more.
I wouldn't be asked to donothing else.
That's very true.
Very true.
Uh let's see.
I well, I'll tell you somethingthey did one time, and I knew
this was a test, but you know, you gotta know when it's

(05:03):
happened to you.
They wanted Cena to F Fue me.
For what?
You know what I mean?
I'm the GM, so what do you want?
You know what I mean?
But that's all you're alwaysbeing tested.
So see, a lot of guys weren'tsmart, they didn't know when
they were being tested.
So I let them know.
I don't care what you do.
This is entertainment.
I know what it is.

SPEAKER_00 (05:22):
Now, did you did he do that?
Do you did you get the F?
Yeah, I just I don't rememberthat happening.
So, what happened leading up tothat F U?

SPEAKER_01 (05:29):
I don't remember.
It's just something me we he waswanting to do, and I wouldn't
let him do it or something.
So he has he's you know, hisheat he was so mad at everybody
till he's gonna F you the GM.

SPEAKER_00 (05:40):
Now during this time, you're not a really a
physical guy in the ring, muchlike you were in the early days.
Well, they can't uh they thatyou can't worry about that.
Well, I I know, but I'm justwondering, did he come up to you
and say, Teddy, I want to dothis F you now?
This move like did he want to goover it with you?
Did he explain how it was gonnago, or did he just say, I'll
handle it, you just stand there?

SPEAKER_01 (06:00):
They told me he says they want me to FU you tonight.
He says, When we get in thering, you know, just follow my
lead.

SPEAKER_00 (06:06):
Okay, so you just feed to him and he'll handle the
rest, right?
Yeah, but so what's goingthrough your mind?
This is the first thing.
Drop on the shoulders, you'reabout to go.

SPEAKER_01 (06:14):
Well, nothing, nothing really.
I don't when I'm doing stufflike that.
I didn't even think I didn'teven think about it, didn't even
cross my mind.
That's the best thing to do, isnot think about that.
Think about how I can get itover, or think about how good I
can sell it, or I don't want tooversell, you know what I mean?
I don't want to kill it, youknow.
I want to make sure when I dowhat that does happen, I sell
people believe.
That's my job.

(06:35):
So that's what I was doing, myjob.
I wasn't worried about you knowthat all that other stuff.
But they didn't know I knew thatI knew how to do my job.

SPEAKER_00 (06:43):
So you that that bump didn't worry you at all.
You you knew that bump was gonnabe nothing.

SPEAKER_01 (06:49):
Well, like I said, I didn't think about it.

SPEAKER_00 (06:50):
Yeah, we just okay, and then you're gonna do what
you're gonna do.
Hey, look, that happened.
Uh, I I don't know if I've evertold you this, but I was working
a show.
Actually, I wasn't working theshow, I was in the audience uh
of an independent show that tookplace in Warner Robbins, Georgia
Sarge, uh, who watches the showfrom time to time.
Uh, he actually was running theshow, if I'm not mistaken.

(07:12):
And Glacier was on the show aswell, and they saw me in the
audience.
They asked me if I wanted towork part of the show as a
lumberjack.
And uh and part of the show, Ihad to get into the ring, and
they tell me now that uh ScottNorton is gonna come in and he's
gonna do whatever he does to me.
And I'm thinking, oh yeah, yeah,no problem, no problem at all.

(07:36):
Teddy.
But brother, you just you justgo with it.
That's all you can do.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh man, but it was a blast, too.
That was the first time I got toface off with Bobby Eaton.
Uh, I he was a guy I grew upwatching.
For those of you who watchwrestling and you have your your
favorites, Bobby Eaton.

(07:57):
I think everybody loved BobbyEaton.
It was just something about him,he was just such a nice guy.

SPEAKER_01 (08:02):
I swear, you talking about that.
I was I was talking to the nieceabout Bobby Eaton.
I swear, man, maybe a week ago,I was telling about how he loved
that rum raisin uh Hagen Doss, rum raisin ice.
Yeah, and he's the one thatturned me on to it.
And I was telling him aboutBobby, he's such a sweetheart,
and he's scared, he's scared ofhis own shadow.

SPEAKER_00 (08:23):
Yeah, and and and he he gave me an opportunity of
something I'll never forgetbecause when I was doing the
lumberjack match, I was facedoff with Bobby.
That's I was on the on the faceside, he was on the heel side,
and we happened to be the onesthat were right next to one
another.
And they came out and we facedoff, and Bobby sold that so
well.

(08:44):
I man, I will never forget justa look on his face like he was
about to get killed by me orsomething, you know, just what
he was willing to do forsomebody he had never met at
that point ever in his life.

SPEAKER_01 (08:54):
Now you understand how I learned.
See, I work with people likethat.
Yep, good and I worked withpeople like that that didn't
mind helping me and telling me,you know, what was right and
what was wrong.
A lot of people didn't knowthat, but see, I learned way
back when, you know what I mean?
So yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (09:10):
I let's see.
We also have uh Zach in here.
I always love this about you,Zach.
You always tell us what'shappening this week as far as or
this month as far as you know, special days.
And today, Teddy, is WorldKindness Day and National
Gratitude Month.

SPEAKER_01 (09:26):
Well, what can you be kind with me and what kind of
gratitude can I get from you,Zach?

SPEAKER_00 (09:31):
Now, see that boy, that's uh I'm not even gonna
carry that any further.
I'm afraid that where that mightgo.
All right, let's see.
Jake, uh, Jake Bobo.
Hey guys, hey Jake, uh, we werejust talking about this a while
ago, didn't you just listen tothe Stranger Things thing?
Yeah, he likes Stranger Thingsas well.

SPEAKER_01 (09:45):
Well, he probably is a stranger thing guy.

SPEAKER_00 (09:47):
Well, yeah, look here, you better be careful.
These are our viewers here.
John Adams saying, Hello, Teddyand Mac.
Hey, John, good to see you inhere again tonight.

SPEAKER_01 (09:55):
Well, good to see you in here.
I'm gonna repeat Matt heretonight.
Yep.

SPEAKER_00 (10:01):
And uh John saying, Teddy, who would you like to see
face John Cena in his lastmatch?
And I'll let you answer thatfirst, and then I want to carry
that a little bit further.

SPEAKER_01 (10:13):
Brother, I I I I can't answer that.
I mean, Jesus Christ, Cena'swork with everybody.

SPEAKER_00 (10:19):
Here's the problem though, Teddy.
They're doing a tournament nowto find out who's gonna wrestle
John Cena in his final match.
I'm sorry, but this is there'sno excitement for me building up
to his final match.
We're just a few weeks away fromhis very last match, and he has

(10:41):
said that over and over again.
This is it, this is it, this isno more matches after this.
Well, I I want to be excitedabout this match, but honestly,
the tournament doesn't exciteme.
They should have had somebodyalready built up where this has
been going on for weeks now, leading up to that big fight
feel on his last match, and Idon't feel it whatsoever.

(11:05):
What do you think?

SPEAKER_01 (11:06):
Uh well, let me ask you this.
Um I would do uh there is BrockLester back for good.
Is he I don't know.
You know, he shows up and thenhe disappears and we never see
him again.
Yeah, because my thing is thisright here.
This is what I would like tosee.
If if uh if this would happen, Idoubt it.

(11:28):
But I would like to see maybeLester, maybe no, maybe Cena.
Just one last time he challengesBrock Lesnar.
Oh no, no, I maybe have Brockcome out and I tell maybe maybe
tease Cena for a little bit, youknow, tell him you you better
make sure this is your last one, because if you remember what I
did to sum out it, we need to goback in Brock's history a little

(11:51):
bit and show me we can go backto just the last time he met
John Cena, the last time that uhBrock Lesnar was there because
he he wiped the mat with him thelast time.
But what I'm saying, if therewas any plans for Brock Lesnar,
if he's gonna be there for awhile, then Brock's gonna need
somebody to work with.
So what I'm saying is, whywouldn't you do something where
Brock comes out and cuts thesepromos to Cena?

(12:14):
You know, you want me one moretime?
Well, you better go back in timeand remember what I did.
Let's go back and find somematch where he destroyed
somebody, you know, somebodyripped the pole, you know, with
some kind of lout.
Then maybe they have it seen andbrought one last time, and that
person that Brock claimed hewiped out and did all this to,

(12:35):
that person shows up, causinginterference right there.
Cena gets to win.

SPEAKER_00 (12:40):
I I just want to see something more out of this.
I I don't know what it is.
And and nothing more you can do.
I I think at this point, too, most people are expecting that
John Cena's gonna win his lastmatch for that last good feel
moment uh of his career.
I can understand that when itcomes to the crowd reaction and

(13:01):
how you leave that show.
You know, do you want to leaveit flat or do you want to leave
it on a high note?
But Teddy still, I you know,he's not gonna be, it's like you
say, he's not gonna be thereafter that night.
And I don't think he has aproblem, you know, putting
anybody over.
I don't think that's the issue.
I just don't think they'rewriting that way.

(13:21):
I think we're gonna see him walkout as a winning that match.

SPEAKER_01 (13:24):
Like they don't even have to bring nobody in from the
past.
If they want to write it, youknow what I mean?
Just have Brock just keep out,you know, don't nobody want you.
Okay, nobody, you know, nobodywants you, okay, because
nobody's really challenging himyet.
So, bro, I'll tell you what,I'll give you one more.
I'll give you one more.
You know, even might even do itwith one hand tied behind my
back.

(13:45):
You know, shit like that.
You know what I mean?
And maybe start something, maybewhether where the people really
get riled up, you know.
Now let's let's see what happenshere.
And Cena slips over.

SPEAKER_00 (13:55):
And how about the fact that John Cena wins the
Intercontinental Championshipfrom uh Dominic Mysterio the
other night?
That was a surprise.
I will say this, I'm not, andI've I think I've said this on
the show, Teddy, and I think youknow, I think we may have even
talked about it, but John Cenais not one of my favorite
performers, never has been.
I understand there are plenty ofpeople who love him.

(14:17):
I just I just he's just not mytaste.
Like I say, everybody's gotdifferent flavors of ice cream,
some like chocolate, some likevanilla.
Uh, but uh just John neverreally did it that much for me.
But the other night, the matchthat he had, and he does have
great matches from time to time, but this is one of them Dominic
Mysterio and John Cena.

(14:38):
Man, I little did we think JohnCena would win a championship
just weeks before he's about toleave WWE forever.
Uh, so that was a nice surprise.
I will say I like the way thatit was booked.
I I kind of wonder why we had toget uh, you know, we we're in
Boston and we're making John besuch a big hero in his hometown.

(15:00):
I love that.
I'm just not sure why Triple Hhad to be in the ring during the
entire thing.
This is not about Triple H.
This is about John Cena.
And that's just my personalopinion.
Uh, it just seemed a little bitkind of out of whack for me uh
to see that.
Uh and I like that laugh.
Let's see.
Uh let's see, pretty classylady.

(15:21):
Good to see you in here.
Uh, she says, Teddy, were you onSmackDown when it was still
pre-taped?
How is it being on a tape showversus a live show?
That's a good question forpeople who don't know Teddy.
What is the difference between atape show and a live show?

SPEAKER_01 (15:36):
Besides the obvious.
There's really no difference init.
When you're doing it, it's live, you know, they're taping it.
You know what I mean?
So, what do you mean by being atape show is something that's
going to be added later?
That's the only reason it'staped.
But uh the I it's it was thesame thing to me.
I it didn't never, I you know, Inever did didn't it didn't
bother me whether it was tapedor live.

SPEAKER_00 (15:56):
From a creative standpoint, probably like Vince
McMahon.
I think you've mentioned thisbefore, that it if you're taped,
you still have the opportunityto go back out there and redo
that match again so that you canget a better take on it.
Uh that's really the onlydifference between the two.
Uh now the setup is a lotdifferent.
I mean, if you're a fan, you goto a house show, you'll notice
there's not near as many lightsand screens like you see on the

(16:20):
TV shows.
Uh, but other than that, therereally is no difference.
No.
Did you were there guys, Teddy, back in the uh the territory
days when you worked with theNWA and WCW?
When they would do house shows,uh, would the guys lay back a
little bit because they're houseshows, they're not, you know,
live performances uh forpay-per-view.

(16:44):
Was there I mean, some guys Iknow won't change.

SPEAKER_01 (16:47):
You might have done that in WCW.
You didn't do that with Vincebecause you worked just as hard
on a live event as you did on alive TV show.
Okay, you worked just as hardfor 1,500 people as you would
work for 15,000.
Yeah, man.
See, did you remember whathappened during COVID and Taker
had to work with those guys, then didn't have any audience?

(17:07):
Yep.
You see, but he still performed, okay, just like it was an
audience there.
And that's that's how you haveto, when you work for Vince,
that's what you do.

SPEAKER_00 (17:16):
Yeah, and on the independence, too, brother.
Let me tell you you might havetwo, three hundred people on
there, and you might have threeor four people on there.
You never know.
And no matter what, you stillhave to perform the best of your
ability, or you should.
My thinking always was I wasrolling tape, or I was having
somebody watch it because Iwanted to see how I was

(17:38):
performing.
So even if there was no onethere, it didn't matter.
I could still perform to what Iperceived to be a huge audience
there, so that it would relateto that onto the camera when I
went back to watch it because Iwanted to see how I was doing
performing wise.
Does that make sense?
No, no, okay, I didn't think so.
Uh let's see.

SPEAKER_01 (17:57):
That's the best thing to do is watch yourself,
you know, like cut promos andstuff to yourself and then look
back at them.

SPEAKER_00 (18:03):
Oh, yeah.
I you know, I I never understoodwhy guys didn't do that more
often.
Nathan Banks uh saying helloall.
Hey Nathan, good to see you inhere.
I'll let you, Nathan.
John Adams uh saying, what doyou think of the way they are
using Randy Orton?
Uh John, I'm gonna be honest, Ican't remember the last time
I've seen Randy.
What's what's he involved withright now?

(18:24):
I mean, maybe that's the point.
I haven't seen him either.
No, that he's been uh he's kindof been MIA for the best of my
knowledge.
Now, he maybe he's on a show I'mnot watching, and that's why I'm
always afraid to say that he'snot there.
But uh if he is, I I'm notexactly sure what's happening
with him.
Uh let's see what else we gothere.
Man, we got a lot of them comingin tonight.

(18:46):
Uh, appreciate that too.
By the way, guys, if you want tobe on the show, all you have to
do is leave us a comment likeeverybody else.
We'll throw it up on the screenand you're a part of the show.
There's no super stickers, anything like that.
It's absolutely free.
Uh, let's see.
Uh, what up, Mick?
What uh what up Ted Mick?
Uh it's Mac, but I appreciatethat, Pee-wee.

(19:06):
Uh he's saying, What's up,Teddy?

SPEAKER_01 (19:08):
Yeah, I see my man Pee-wee right there.
I use that last name is Valdo'sValdovinos or something like
that.
Valdovinos.
Okay.

SPEAKER_00 (19:17):
Yeah, I think that's Valdovinos.
Yeah, something like that.
It's funny how you say that.
Kind of funny when you say thename, too.
Pretty classy lady.
Triple H is an egomaniac.
Nobody in that arena was thereto see him.
He should have let John Cenahave his moment in his hometown.
Pretty classy lady.
I can't argue that for a second.

(19:38):
Uh, also, uh, Pete Wee saying,What up, Tell?
Now your name's Tell.
John Adam, I don't know whatsome of you guys do while you're
watching the show.
John Adams, because now that hehas won the title, I'm thinking
it is going to be something todo with the IC title.

(19:59):
So I may think it's going to beRay, and then Ray faces his son.
Would Ray uh and John Cenaexcite you as John Cena's final
match, Teddy?
No.
Yeah, I you know, I I like thestory idea.
If anything, I'd like to see Rayand uh John Cena in a rematch,

(20:21):
uh, just based on the othernight's uh performance of what
they gave us.
And uh that was total, I mean, look here.
The first hour of Raw the othernight was non-stop John Cena.
It was John Cena in a match,John Cena cutting a promo.
Uh, it was uh, I thought it wasa well-done hour, uh, which is
not something we've been gettinga lot of from WWE lately.

(20:43):
Uh let's see, we also have uhpretty classy lady.
Make sure I got the right onehere.
Uh, I just saw that Randy Ortoncame back from a big family
vacation for his anniversary.
He's not worried about WWE rightnow.
You're right, yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (20:58):
No, they've they ain't worried about him either.

SPEAKER_00 (21:02):
Yeah.
Uh Joey77 saying, Hey, Teddy andMac.
Hey guys, good to have you guys.

SPEAKER_01 (21:06):
But it is Joey77.

SPEAKER_00 (21:08):
Now, look here.
Uh, again, if you want to be apart of the show, all you gotta
do is drop us a line and uhwe'll throw it up on the screen,
any comments, and uh good orbad, it could be you know good
comments, bad comments.
Teddy doesn't care, he'll answeranything that comes his way.
But in the meantime, it doesmean that it's just about that
time, actually past time, for usto be going to the mailbag.

SPEAKER_01 (21:33):
Oh, we got letters, we get your letters every day.
I like those letters, but let'sfind out what you got today.

SPEAKER_00 (21:50):
Oh boy, baby, today's your favorite part of
the show there, Teddy.
No, it is not.
Our first question is Sinclairin Kentucky, who writes, What is

(22:12):
your honest opinion?
And he's highlighting honest.
I promise you, Teddy alwaysgives his honest opinion, even
sometimes when he shouldn't.
Uh, but here it is.
What is your honest opinion ontoday's wrestling?

SPEAKER_01 (22:27):
Well, I don't really get into it as much as I used
to.
You know, I still watch itbecause uh when I was, you know,
to do the podcast and stuff, youknow, I need to be able to talk
about different things.
Um I don't know uh really whatto say.
I think it there needs to be alot of changes, I think.

(22:49):
Uh I think we need to see a lotof new faces, you know, people
maybe that we haven't seenbefore, people that maybe we
seen before, but maybe we'd liketo see them again.
Yeah.
So uh I I don't know.
I I I think right now it's justgotten so big till it's just
it's just gone now, man.
And I don't I don't see anychanges coming soon.
I mean, maybe, but I I justdon't know.

SPEAKER_00 (23:11):
Yeah, for for wrestling fans, especially uh
Teddy's age, my age, and evenyou know, those in their 40s and
30s, it's changed quite a bit inthe last ever since COVID, a lot
of things have changed.
And it seems like even the theprocess of how we consumed
wrestling and and the stars andhow long they last, you know,

(23:32):
the shelf life, it seems to me,of a lot of stars just kind of
come and go now.
Whereas years ago, those namesstuck around 10, 20 years.
You don't see that as muchanymore.
And the names aren't as big asthey once were.
Uh, but I think that has a lotto do with the fact that we
don't get the storylines that weonce did.
And and and you know, I'm nottrying to make excuses for WWE,

(23:56):
uh, but when you have four orfive different specials are
gonna show up on Netflix andyou've got to have a story for
each one, and you're trying toget through to that thing,
storylines are gonna get lost.
And that's what's happened, Ibelieve.
The storylines are getting lost, and and people's uh you know,
need to see what's on TV is nolonger there.

(24:18):
Teddy, you said this just aminute ago.
If you weren't doing this whenit, you know, because it's part
of what your job is, if itwasn't part of your job, would
you watch it?
No.
Yeah, see, and that's an honestopinion.
I think a lot of people feelthat way.
Uh, you know, I watch it becauseI do it for a living, but if if

(24:39):
I had to go back and I had achoice between watching
wrestling or watching uh, youknow, uh breaking bad or one of
these shows on Netflix, I'm butit's not I wouldn't watch it,
it's not so bad as me notwatching it, you know, far as
you know what's being on, youknow, what they're putting out
there.

SPEAKER_01 (24:56):
I have my own personal reasons.

SPEAKER_00 (24:58):
Yep, yep.
You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01 (25:00):
So I'll leave it at that.

SPEAKER_00 (25:01):
I got you.
I uh let's see, John Adamssaying, when you were a referee,
what was your favorite match orwas excited to uh excited to do
as a referee?

SPEAKER_01 (25:13):
Oh golly, I had a lot of matches uh when I was
refereeing because I wasbasically the only referee.
So basically a lot of them werereally great.
I always enjoyed working withthe Midnight Express with Bobby
and Stan and uh uh loved workingwith the horsemen because see
when you worked with those guys, you had to work.
They didn't play around outthere, so you know, and then you
learn from them because you'rein there with the best.

(25:35):
Uh, I think I had uh the reallyuh most exciting one was uh when
I ran uh Shy Town Heat Chicago.
Uh I went down and did the threecount on the Steamboat and Flare
mat.
So that was uh that was a bighighlight for me.

SPEAKER_00 (25:49):
I saw a Steamboat uh on the latest AEW dynamite just
last night.
Uh they were in North Carolina, and he is 71 years old and can
still perform in the ring.
Damn, brother.
I mean, and he he just this guydoesn't really seem to age, you
know.
He he he's always got that look.
The women are always gonna gocrazy for him, you know.

SPEAKER_01 (26:11):
And like I told you before, him and Terry Funk, God
rest his soul, those were thetwo guys that I always would
call on Christmas and wish themboth a merry Christmas.
And they would also, you know, sometimes they beat me to the
punch.
But those guys didn't have to dothat.
That's why I tell you, alwayspay attention to what people
don't have to do.
But so if they did it, you know, look at me.

(26:31):
I got you know, I better be gladI'm doing it.
So but those were the two guysthat I always remembered and
they remembered me.
And Steamboat, right today, whenI see him, we talk, and you
know, and he's just a nice guyto be around.

SPEAKER_00 (26:43):
He is, he's one of those.
Uh, you know, you hear a lot ofuh today about Sting and Sting
being one of the nicest guysthat was in wrestling.
Ricky Steamboat was the sameway, he was one of those just
goodie.
I mean, he he wasn't a whitemeat baby face, uh, you know, in
professional wrestling.
That was him.
That's who he is.
Yeah, that's why so well isplaying that uh role, too.

SPEAKER_01 (27:06):
Oh, yeah.
Well, I yeah, he was a greatguy.
I loved him, man.
Me and him, we we just wasalways good.

SPEAKER_00 (27:11):
Reggie B fine.
I know we're going over a littlebit here, guys.

SPEAKER_01 (27:14):
Oh, well, yeah, yeah.
Reggie B.
He says, What's up, Teddy?
Mac and Iceman watching yourpodcast right now.
We would love to come on thereone day.
Uh, we would love to have you.
All you got to do is give yourinformation to Mac and um let
Mac know how to get in touchwith you, Reggie.
Uh yeah, definitely, man.
You and especially Iceman.
Please tell him now that we saidhello here, man.

SPEAKER_00 (27:36):
Look here, that does sound kind of bad, especially
Iceman.
Like, you know, you're okay,Reggie, but we rather have
Iceman.
That's what it just soundedlike.

SPEAKER_01 (27:44):
It didn't sound like that.
You always see now, see nowyou're not Reggie.
You see what I'm going?
Now you now understand why youtook me back to Bill Dundee that
day, okay?

SPEAKER_00 (27:56):
Oh, God.
Let's see.
Uh oh, here's a good one here.
Um, what was your favoritesuperstar to manage?
Uh, John asking that.

SPEAKER_01 (28:06):
Uh man, I everybody was my favorite because I got
along with everybody.
You know, I enjoyed everybodythat I managed and I worked
with.
Uh Butch and Ron, I think, werereally the greatest, you know,
especially with Butch, becausehe he would always, you know,
get on me about something.
It was just always somethingwith me and Butch, but it always
turned out to be comical too, though.
You know, we'd laugh about it.

(28:28):
But Butch and Ron were reallygood.
I love that uh Danny and uh uhSpivey and Sid.
Uh they were great to work with.
Uh Jesus, man.
Like I said, everybody that Imanaged was good.
Mark Henry, Rodney, Mack, Jazz, all everybody.

SPEAKER_00 (28:42):
Is there a sweet spot for you?
I think I've asked you this, andI don't know that I've ever
gotten a straight answer or not, because I don't know if maybe
it's just that it's hard toanswer.
But is there a sweet spot foryou of your career where you're
like, if I could go back and Icould live just this five-year
period, what five-year periodwould you have picked?

(29:03):
Would you go back to the NWA,the WCW, WWE, and not because of
money or anything else, butsimply because you loved that
particular time and you had ablast doing your job?

SPEAKER_01 (29:16):
I'd love to go back to an NWA.

SPEAKER_00 (29:18):
Yeah, yeah.
That's that's where it allstarted.
I mean, you know, you're goingback to where it began, where
you learned the actual craft ofprofessional wrestling and what
you had, you know, looking outfor you in the rest of your
life.
Did you ever think at that pointthat you would make a lifetime
career out of professionalwrestling?

SPEAKER_01 (29:35):
No, no, no, I I got, but uh, when I got the job
putting up the ring, taking thering down, I thought that was
the greatest thing of my life.
I because I'm I mean, I didn'teven think I was going to make
it to that far.
Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (29:51):
So when I got you must be a Hall of Famer, yeah,
you know.

SPEAKER_01 (29:54):
So when I got to putting up that ring, man, God,
I I thought I was in heaven.

SPEAKER_00 (29:59):
Joey C.
77 saying, do you watch AEW Macand Teddy?
I do occasionally, Teddy doesnot.

SPEAKER_01 (30:06):
No, I do.
I don't have any love for them.
They don't have no love for me,and I don't have no love for
them.

SPEAKER_00 (30:12):
I want to tell you something.
I and I don't know how this isgoing to come across because
people may be surprised when Isay this.
But AEW's uh show they had onDynamite this past Wednesday,
just last night, they had cagematches.
Uh, and it was a women's cagematch that started the show.

(30:33):
Damn, these girls were gettingit.
I I have I saw them do thingsthat I never thought I would see
a female performer get away withon TV.
Now, I think there's been a lotof blowback because there was a
lot of blood in that match, too.
This is a women's cage match.
But I I gotta tell you, Teddy,it caught my eye, and anybody

(30:54):
who was watching TV, flippingaround, maybe trying to find
something to watch, if theylanded on that, I promise you
they stopped and watched atleast five, 10 minutes of it.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (31:04):
Yeah, like I said, I I got no, you know, I don't have
a problem with talent.
I have a problem withmanagement.
They sent me a message and sortof let me know they weren't
interested in me, so why would Iwatch them?

SPEAKER_00 (31:15):
Yep.
I tell you, I've got to get afew more in here before we close
out here.
Joey77 saying the characters inwrestling were so much better
back in the day.
Uh, that I agree with as well.
Yeah.
Um, I think because they werebuilt better.
You understood who they were, and you kind of, you know, you
knew their background withouthaving to be told over and over
again.

SPEAKER_01 (31:34):
Let's go back.
We got Joe Hamilton there, myman Nick Ligo Beak.
Uh, he just had a birthday too.
So we gotta say late happybirthday to uh Nick Patrick.

SPEAKER_00 (31:43):
Now, you know what's funny is uh Nick uh he was doing
his mailbag the other day, and Ihad to pop in on his show.
Uh, and I just left him amessage real fast.
I said, Hey, Nick, uh that uhcream you asked about is on its
way.
It should be there in a coupleof days, and uh it should clear
that rash right up.
Uh thanks, Mac.
And of course, the host of theshow reads it out loud on the

(32:05):
air.
So I had to screw with him alittle bit.
Nick is a great guy, man.
That's good.
Uh let's see.
Uh yeah, we got to get everybodyin here if I can.
Uh poor Reggie, Joe uh makingfun of Reggie.
Uh let's see.
Reggie also saying, um, I got aFacebook page.
Hit me up on that, sir, and I'llgive you all my information.

(32:26):
Reggie B fine on Facebook.
I will take a look at it uhprobably uh tomorrow.
And Pee-wee is saying, What up,Mac and Teddy?
Good to see you again, Pee-wee.

SPEAKER_01 (32:37):
Pee-wee, are you are you smoking anything?
You have already uh checked inwith us earlier.
Now you're checking back in.
That just means you got a memoryproblem.

SPEAKER_00 (32:47):
I got another message from you.
You want to see what his othermessage is, Teddy?

SPEAKER_01 (32:50):
Yeah, here it is.

SPEAKER_00 (32:51):
Here's the other one.
Oh, it's the same thing.
It's the same thing.
Here's another one up here.
This is the same thing.

SPEAKER_01 (33:00):

SPEAKER_00 (33:02):
Put it down, brother.

SPEAKER_01 (33:04):
Put it down.

SPEAKER_00 (33:06):
All right, Teddy.
We're out of time here.
Actually, we're going way overand uh hopefully they won't shut
us off before we uh finishtalking here.
Tell me, uh, anything coming upfor you you want to get over?

SPEAKER_01 (33:16):
Uh let's see.
No.
Oh, well, yeah, right.
I'm going to uh Buffalo, NewYork.

SPEAKER_00 (33:25):
