Rob (00:00):
Welcome to the third edition of the Rob Tells Tales
mailbag.
Before we get started, this isthe final episode of season
four.
We did 20 new episodes, and I'mnot sure how long it'll be
until season five.

(00:21):
I already have a lot of episodeideas, so hopefully sooner
rather than later.
Last week, I activated afeature that my podcast host
offers called FanMail, and nowin the show notes of every
episode, there's a link you canclick, and if you're on your
mobile phone, it allows you tosend a text message to the show.
A few people have sentmessages.

(00:42):
It's been pretty fun so far,but if you want to do that, we'd
love to hear from you.
Feel free to ask a question forthe mailbag.
And the way it works, just soyou know, is I will get the
message, but I cannot respond tothe message.
It doesn't give me your phonenumber, and it does not sign you
up to be on a list or anythinglike that.
All that happens is you sendthe message and then you're
done.
And the first question I'mgoing to answer today actually

(01:05):
came in by way of a text messagethat someone sent.
This is from Candice and theirquestion is, do you have a
Patreon or is there anythingelse we can do to help the
podcast?
I do not have a Patreon.
Maybe one day, but it doesn'treally make sense at the moment.
And there are a few ways youcan help.
I think the best way would bejust to share your favorite

(01:25):
episode with a friend, orseveral friends.
Another thing would be just toshare that favorite episode on
your social media accounts.
And then you can rate andreview it on Apple Podcasts or
whatever app you use.
I'm not sure how helpful thatis as far as getting new
listeners, but I do think ithelps when people check out the
podcast for the first time, andit has positive ratings and

(01:46):
reviews.
And several people have alreadyrated and reviewed it, and I
really appreciate it.
Thank you.
Question number two comes fromGrant in Vallejo, California.
Rob, I'm happy Where did yougo?
Also, do you ever worry thatyou'll run out of tails to tell?
Yeah, I took a long break frommaking the podcast, but I'm
doing it again now.
I'll probably take another longbreak after this season.

(02:08):
It takes me a while to recordthe episodes, and I have a job
and things like that.
But I like doing it, so I hopeto keep doing it for as long as
I can.
I do worry that I'll run out oftails, but I haven't so far,
and I'm still living my life.
So hopefully that won't happen.
The final question is fromMadison, and they worked a
little bit on Downtime.

(02:29):
You mentioned an actor namedGarrett in the Downtime
episodes.
I don't remember that characteror that actor being in the
movie.
Is there a story that you'recomfortable telling behind that?
Yes, there is.
The reason you don't rememberit, Madison, is because this all
happened before you signed onto help out.
But it's still an interestingtale, so here we go.

(02:50):
Tale number 65, The Poker Game.
Larry arrived in town fordowntime, and we just wanted to
shoot something that was kind ofsimple, where everyone could
get familiar working togetherand working with Larry.
We came up with this idea of ascene where everyone played
poker together, and it wassupposed to be this easy thing.

(03:11):
It was going to be Will,Larry's character Vince, Adam,
Robert's character Dave,Garrett, and we also put some
people in that were on the crew.
They were all sitting aroundthis big table playing poker,
and Garrett was playing thisthis young rich guy that was at
the golf course.
He was sort of the opposite ofLarry's character, Vince.
It ended up being reallydifficult to shoot this scene

(03:32):
because it was so many people.
It was night.
We shot it outside on the backporch, so we had to light it.
We had multiple cameras going, multiple microphones.
Technically, it was probablythe hardest thing we shot in the
whole movie, and that was neverthe intent.
But this actor, Garrett, that'snot his real name, he and Larry
were acting in this scene, andLarry was sort of antagonizing

(03:54):
him.
That's what we wanted.
again they're enemies andthey're playing poker so Larry
kept accusing him of cheatingand when he did it they would go
back and forth at each otherarguing and Garrett started
saying he wasn't a cheater Iwill not sit here and let you
disrespect me like that and itwas working really well for the
scene but then when we cut himand Larry kept arguing and then
we'd start shooting again they'dget back into it And then we

(04:16):
cut.
And they were still going ateach other.
And Garrett seemed reallyoffended that Larry was accusing
him of cheating.
And it was very confusing.
It was almost like the moviehad become reality.
But I assumed it was just sortof a side effect of acting in
the scene together.
But that was not the case.
When we finally finishedshooting that night, Garrett
asked to speak to me alone andtold me that he did not want to

(04:37):
come back and be in the movieanymore.
And I said okay.
With Garrett gone, that sceneno longer made sense in the
movie, so I cut it out.
It's hard to understand whatexactly went wrong.
Maybe it's a testament toLarry's acting ability.
When he was staring downGarrett, calling him a cheater,
it was so real that Garrett hadto take it personally.

(04:59):
Okay, thanks for writing in,Madison, Grant, and Candace.
That concludes Season 4 of RobTells Tales.
