Welcome to Robin's Nest, the empowerment podcast
with nourishment for the mindand spirit.
Welcome to the Nest.

Coach Robbin Sexton (00:13):
I'm Robin, welcome to the Nest.
I want to talk about survival.
Beyonce and her Destiny's Childmade that song.
I'm a survivor, I won't give up.
So what happens when you have toget in survival mode, when
there is an attack, anunexpected attack?

(00:35):
Are you prepared?
When I was in the army, we hadto go through boot camp to learn
different tactics of how tosurvive in any circumstance, in
any surrounding.
We had to run and we had toexercise and they taught us that
even in the wilderness we hadto have food that was prepared a
different way.

(00:55):
They were called MRIs.
They didn't spoil, they weremade for the long term because
you can't fry bacon in themiddle of trying to survive.
What happens when you'reattacked?
When you have to go intosurvival mode?
You have to dress differentlybecause there is a threat on its

(01:16):
way in your life.
We've gone through tests wherewe were just in survival mode.
We couldn't operate the way wenormally do.
We had to make sure that wewere in fight or flight, because
at any moment we may have tofight, at any moment we may have
to flee, at any moment we mayhave to turn and run.

(01:39):
So in the military we had tohave PE.
It was physical exercisebecause we had to get in shape
in peacetime so that we wouldhave strength to run when we
needed it.
We learned to go to the gunrange.
We had to march for miles withequipment on our backs, not just

(02:00):
for fun, but so that we wouldbe prepared if we ever had to
walk long miles with equipmentsurvival equipment on our back.
We had to get in shape so thatwhile somebody was chasing us,
they didn't catch us justbecause we were so out of breath
and it caused us to lose ourlives.
The training that we were doingin peacetime was so, when the

(02:22):
attack or the threat came, wewould be able to survive and go
into survival mode.
How many times have you had togo into survival mode because of
something that happened in yourlife?
Were you prepared?
Were you ready?
Were you in shape?
We've gone into survival modewith different emotional threats

(02:44):
.
Sometimes it was a physicalthreat, sometimes it was abuse,
sometimes it was a mental threat, and you had to go into
survival mode, even with yourown mind when it's attacking
itself.
Old pain, old thoughts tryingto come and revisit, old wounds

(03:06):
trying to be reopened.
You have to go into survivalmode and begin to fight the bad
thoughts.
Begin to remind yourself ofpast victories, because if you
went through that, then you canmake it through this.
I am a survivor.
We are survivors.
Look back over your life.
Look back at all the threatsand the wars and the wounds that

(03:29):
you have overcome.
Look back at the times when youthought you wouldn't make it,
but yet you're still here, someof the battles you went through.
When you look back, you don'teven remember the name of the
person that hurt you so bad thatyou wanted to end your own life
, but you didn't.
You survived that attack and sonow, as you look back on it and

(03:51):
you try to remember why thepain was so intense and why, at
the time you had to survive, youhad to go into survival mode
just to make sure that you madeit through that battle.
But now I prepare in peacetimefor what will happen or what's
going to happen when I have tosurvive.
We are survivors.

(04:12):
We have gone through tests, wehave gone through wounds, we
have gone throughdisappointments, we have gone
through heartache, we have gonethrough mental threats, but we
are preparing ourselves inpeacetime for when we need to
pull up and gird up our loinsand gird up our strength so that
we will not wear out whensomething is trying to chase us
down.
We are survivors in Robin'snest.

(04:35):
We are the ones that have gonethrough things in the past, but
we made it.
So now, if I made it throughthat baby, I can make it through
this.
Just know, get ready inpeacetime, because the war may
happen at any time, so that youwill be able to fight or flight.
Whichever one I got to do.
I'm ready because I know that Iam a survivor.

(04:56):
We are survivors.
We're not going to give up.
We're going to keep going andwe're going to keep winning.
Because we are survivors, we'regoing to keep going and we're
going to keep winning because weare survivors.
