Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yeah, hither Detroit Wheels.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Hey, doctor John, how you doing all right?

Speaker 1 (00:03):
Well, we've got John Moranik on the line. We're going
to talk a little bit about the Taylor Animal Shelter
event coming up. So how are you doing.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
I'm doing really good. We wanted to call in and
talk to you a little bit about a charity event,
a five K run we're doing.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
I think it's an incredible, fantastic event, and I see
you've added a five k So the Pause in the
Park five k is happening Saturday, May thirty first, and
it's a benefit for the Taylor Animal Shelter. But I
would imagine there's some entertainment to go along with that
if you're involved. Is that right?

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Yeah, just a little bit. All we're doing as a DJ.
DJ Johnny Melendez, he's actually the guitar player from the
rat Pack and those bands that we've done before.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Well that sounds great, John, and once again, thanks for
helping the Taylor Animal Shelter put together this incredible event
coming up on the thirty first. So what else is
going to be going on out there?

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Well, I'm gonna let you talk to Matt from the
Tailor Shelter he's right here with us. I'm gonna let
him explain a little more about that.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
All right. Well, hey Matt, thanks for joining us.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Gooding.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Well, first off, congratulations on doing another great event for
the Tailor Animal Shelter. But tell us a little bit
about this event here. I see you've added a five
k race to this Pause in the Park. I think
that's going to be good for you guys.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Thank you. Well, the we're having the five k Stars
for runners at nine am, and after that at nine thirty,
we're gonna have the runners and the walkers.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
With their pets.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Oh wow, So that's a little bit different than we've
done before, so it should be interesting. Any dog it
comes it has to don the non retractable leash for
safety purposes. So then after the race and we're gonna
have a some food trucks and bounce houses and more
of like a community involvement vendors that kind of stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
So can people still enter and be a part of
the Pause in the Park five k?

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Yes, thinking out right?

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (02:00):
I at Cityoftaylor dot com Pausing the Park five k's
it's right on your sees you on the website, you'll
see the link that you can clicking and go to the
link to register, and also they can register the day
of as well, on May thirty first.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
So what was the what was the tally from last
year for raising money for the animal shelter? And how
are you doing this year?

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Well, this year we're actually for our donations, we're doing
extremely well. You know, we're right now currently, I think
we're at about forty thousand dollars in donations. Last year
we did at that last event, we did about five
thousand dollars.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Wow, Okay, well that was a nice chunk of change there,
considering it was just a bit of a concert in the.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Park and every penny goes to the shelter and it's
just directly to the animals for their health and welfare.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
So this whole event is going to be happening at
the Heritage Park Sheldon Pavilion, and that's on Pardi Road
in Taylor. So, Matt, how's the shelter shaping up for
twenty twenty five? Has it been a good year? Has
it been a bad year? So so year? I mean,
what's the story out there at the shelter right now?

Speaker 3 (03:08):
You know, the story tailor is the same as pretty
much ever across the country with the number of animals
that are coming to the shelter, primarily dogs. I don't know,
still kind of like a hangover from COVID when people
adopted a bunch of dogs. Now that they're going back
to work, it seems that we're we've had enough surge
like hare and across the country. Luckily for us, we're

(03:28):
we've expanded our shelter and renovated it. We were at
five thousand square feet and probably next month we should
be at fifteen thousand square feet. So there's a lot
going on here at the shelter. The expansions half done
and in the bottom month we should be open.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
So has there been actual overcrowding to the point where
you've had to expand?

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Well, with us, we had to reduce our intake because
of the expansion, we're not allot taking as much. We
had to work with a couple other local counties and
facilities to help us, so we're at a limited intake
right now.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
So you guys have been doing a great job. Now,
will there be the opportunity to adopt a pet out
there at the.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Event, Yes, we have hope to have a couple of
them out there that we currently have had here for
a while. The thing is that when animals are in here,
they seem to stay here for a lot longer than
what they used to before. They be here for a
couple of days before, and now they're in here for
literally months. We have a dog and right now it's
been in here every year.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Oh wow, and you're able to keep them that long? Yeah? Yes,
through the donations, correct, yes, and the fact.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
That we're and and they'll kill for adoptable shelter.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Oh that's right, that's awesome. So you guys are one
of the few out there, and we salute you for that.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Correct, there's a lot of that. There's a lot that
are it's more of a trend now to be no
non killable for adoptables. But we know we're lucky that
you know we're able.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
To do that.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Oh that's excellent. Well, congratulations on that, and thank you
too from all of us who who love our pets. So, Matt,
can you run down your sponsors for us and their
involvement Doctor.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
John Herman's families. One of our sponsors, doctor John Herman,
he did a low cost of that clinic. Unfortunately he
was he was killed in a car accident a couple
of years ago. But his family has been extremely generous
to us and that's a great thing. Kaylee Moreau and Devin,
I don't remortalize mazor is in memory of Gilly. Gilly

(05:22):
was a dog I don't some people might know about.
It was hit on Holland Road and Taylor a few
months back and killed. They went and raised just on
their own without him us knowing. Twenty five hundred dollars
to the shelter in memory of Gilly. So we we
made Gilly one of our sponsors as well. Premier Pet
Supply and My Customs Signs are two companies. Well, My

(05:45):
Customs Signs is here and Taylor they've always helped us
with everything we needed. Great company. Actually they're doing all
our race signs for us. And Premier Pet Supply has
been very good to us in terms of helping us
with anything we've needed.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Well, we salute them for that. So yeah, congratulations to
our spot unters as well. The party in the park
will have vendors out there. What kind of vendors will
be on hand.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
It's anything from dog and cat related items to candles
to whatever somebody wants to come on and help.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
All right. And then you've got the food trucks and
the bounce house for the kids and adoptions. So it's
going to be quite the party in the park, no
question about it.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
And then some.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Musical entertainment with Johnny Melendez spinning the tune. So yeah,
it's going to be a great party. And that's coming
up on the thirty first out there once again at
Heritage Park Sheldon Pavilion. So, Matt, is there a way
for people to donate when they hear this or they
just want to help out with the Taylor Animal Shelter
and they can't make the event.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
Well, we can accept the Nation Tarrett Shelter two five
five five five Northline Road anytime we're open. We're open
nine thirty to eleven thirty and to lunch, and we're
open twelve thirty two thirty time we're on Saturdays nine
to one. They can bring you monetary nations or food.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
All right. So, once again, just to recap the pause
in the park, five K gets started right around nine
o'clock and runners can still get involved and still enter,
and then the party in the park starts, I would
imagine right around noon or so after everything. So sounds
like you guys have another great event on your hands,

(07:26):
and you know, all of us who are animal lovers
just want to reach out and say thank you for
one being a no kill shelter and two doing such
a fantastic job. You know, more shelters around the city,
around the state, around the country really need to do
events like this, and Matt, you've you've done two in

(07:46):
a row now that have been pretty big. So we
salute you for that.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
All right, you guys, Well, good luck with the event.
I hope everything goes smoothly out there. Rainers, shine, It's
going to happen, right, So we're praying for good weather
for you guys, because it's been a mess in the
Motor City for the past month or so. But I
have a feeling and you're gonna have some great weather
and a great turnout. And uh, let's keep the ball

(08:12):
rolling for those for those dogs and cats and pets
and and uh and help them get through twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
All right, dog, thanks man, Thank you, all

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Right, John, thank you, and thank you Matt, and thank
you out there to the Tailor Animal Shelter.
