and occasionally I get to sleep.But you've been out playing a little
bit, right, Yes, Ihave. That's we're going to get up
there to Detroit though. Oh yeah, do you have something planned already?

No, not yet. All right, Well we're gonna help you work on
that, that's for sure, allright. But yeah, let's talk about
the new CD. It's called I'mComing Home. And when I saw it,
I went, oh, is thata subliminal message? Well, I
guess in a way it does.Yeah. The content of the song and

the lyrics and everything are I don'tknow. People people's had great reactions from
it. All good, but inI mean they wanted sung at their wedding.
They wanted that sung at their funeral. I mean, you know,
I ran the gamut. Oh,it's one of those kind of songs that

as kind of universal. Yeah,I love that. Well. I thought
the production work on it was secondto none, Sean. I mean,
all your CDs are great. Imean, it's hard to believe now that
I think I was counting up onyour website. This is like maybe your
twelfth or what thirteenth solo album eleven? Okay, all right, okay,

I released a couple of singles.That's what throws people off. Yeah,
all right, well, wow,that's a lot of music over the years.
My manager is a slave driver,and I'm ever thankful for it.
But it's still you still sound sogood, and and you've always done a
great job of fronting bands like LittleFeet, of course, and all the

years with Bob Seeger. But yeah, these these solo records are pretty special.
And I saw that you were workingor at least in a couple of
songs from my buddy Paul Warren,and I was really happy to see that
Paul's down there in Nashville as well. Is he not? I think he

is. He's been out here forquite a few years. You know,
we've been friends since he lived inNorthville, you know, and of course
we worked together with Skip and Winklemany years ago. That's where I first
met Paul. Oh and of courseyou went on to do the Richard Barks
and Tina Turner and Rod Stewart.Oh boy, everybody could think of.

Yeah. Yeah, he took meto Vegas with him once and he was
with Rod Stewart and oh my god, oh yeah, yeah, that was
a great time down there. Ofcourse, Rod Stewart's kind of a dumb
dumb but we won't get into it. We won't get into that podcast.
Okay, Well, you know,Steve Marriott was my favorite. Oh I

just I just talked to Jerry Shirleyfrom humble Pie the other day right out
of here. Oh, my managerdies will die when you he hears that.
Yeah, shle oh, it's postedon my It's posted on my Facebook
page. So oh fantastic. Yeah, head on over there. Yeah,
he's sanctioning a humble Pie band that'sgoing to be out there now. And

I see great, you see somebands doing that today. I mean,
I don't know what's next. Peopleare gonna start sanctioning is Bob gonna start
sanctioning the Silver Bullet manned out there? I don't, I don't know.
I don't know if it's you know, going to reach that high. But

how many years did you sing withthe Silver Bullet Band? Holy smokes?
Well, I started out in themid seventies, and I went off to
do some other things for seventy sixof seventy seven, and then Bob started
listening to tapes of the band saidthey called the episode we Need You Back.
(04:36):
I guess the guys who weren't quiteeight in the note. But anyway,
so from seventy eight on to thevery very bitter end, it was
so sad. In November one,twenty nineteen, right before the pandemic.
Who would have thunk he would havecaught it that perfectly? Yeah, he
did. Really, he saved himselfa lot of aggravation. I think so

many bands at that time we're stilltrying to stay out and kept getting COVID
and canceling and still are. Yeah, look at the tours that are canceling
and and it's it seems like it'shappening more and more often than ever before
for a lot of different various reasons. But well, uh you know,
(05:25):
so far, so good. Knockon wood for you in your band,
right, Oh yeah, yeah,we've we've managed to uh well, my
manager and I got COVID early onthree times, thank god, my mild
cases and uh but it never affectedany any playing dates. We didn't.
(05:46):
We weren't about to do any dateswhere the public was drawn together, you
know, during that whole profuse Soyeah, we were at least publicly minded
in that regard. But so yeah, you know, COVID ended and then
I fell off the porch and crushedmy heel. So that was another years
(06:10):
sake. But I'm doing good nowand back on the horse and back to
recording and writing and touring. Ilove it. I see that you dedicated
this album to a friend of yours. Melissa. Tell me a little bit
about Jason still ROSSI, who's mydrummer's late wife. She was a star
(06:33):
in the heaven. I must say. She was the most amazing photographer.
She was a marathon runner. Shejust had a smile and a hug for
everybody. Thirty seven, she startedhaving epilepsy and apparently one of the seizures
(06:55):
caught her in the middle of thenight. Then poor Tom woke up and
she's already gone. Oh, forgoodness sake, oh my goodness. Wow.
Yeah, she looked very young onthe on the inside sert insert here
of the CD, and I wasjust, you know, kind of wondering.
But boy, that that's a sadstory. Well beautiful dedication, that's

for sure, and a beautiful CD. I really have to say, my
favorite song so far has been keepyour Head Above Water. Thank you.
Yeah, I really like that one. And uh, like I said earlier,
the production on this is is absolutelygreat. Now did you you know
have to when did you start workingon this? We're you know, when
(07:41):
you were rehabbing your foot or what. No. We we like to get
in there and hit it and quitit. You know. We got the
songs together. Gosh, everything isfoggy right now, but we got the
songs together, especially well the twothat I wrote and which is keep your

Head Above Water and I'm Coming Homethe title track. But uh, and
then we sent word out to afew of our friends like Paul Warren and
Jeff Harris and my old bandmate KennyGreenberg. He was with singer as well.
You know, I'm looking for songsand they all sent me great songs
(08:28):
and I could. I could havedone a three CD set with an amount
of people with me, but Inarrowed it down to a few people with
a couple of songs each. Butit was it was tough, and so
I had all this material right thereand we just went boom boom, boom
boom as decide on this song.Let's get in there. We took two
(08:50):
days to record it and then mixit, and then I went in and
did uh two or three Now itwas two days of final vocals, and
then Henry, who's producing it aswell as mixing it and everything, he
went in there and worked his magicand we sent it over to mixed mastering
(09:11):
and then to reproduction and that wasall done there in Nashville. Yes,
wow, yeah, that's great.Yeah, you're right there. I mean
I listened to other man's talk abouttheir recordings, and yeah, we spent
two years, We spent six months. Here's Sean Murphy. I spent two
days on it. Yeah, whata professional. Come on, you're a

pro. There were no second takeson this, come on. Well.
I had a lot of a lotof learning, how from Seeger and Clapton
and at at some pretty great people. So yeah, you weren't allowed to
waste time. God you have youhad to be prepared. You have been
around some of the big boys too, like Seeger and like mentioned Eric Clapton.

But you know, you know,and one thing we've never really talked
about, Sean is, uh,how you made that leap to Little Feet.
I always found that very interesting becauseyou know, I was a big
Little Feet fans, as many peoplewere, but that was George. I
mean, you took over some somepretty hefty shoes there, right. Yeah.
(10:26):
Well, you know Local Paths ofseventy nine and the band went on
hiatus or they thought they were breakingup, but and then along comes uh
Seager's nineteen eighty six Star to bringback into the fray. And and he
said, you know, I thinkI'm going to take some time off or
retire or whatever he was taking inhis mind, and I'm going to raise
(10:50):
my kids Cold and Samantha, whichwas an astounding thing to do in them
kind of in the middle of yourupside. But he was never one to
follow trends and stuff. So anyway, he said, I'm gonna I'm gonna
start uh with this fan. I'mgoing to add a few people, uh
(11:13):
that have only been in the studiowith me. I'm gonna have a part
of the road. And two ofthose people were Bill Payne and Fred Tackett,
and that's how I met them.So when when Bill uh went back
and he said, god, youknow, playing live and everything was really
good. Let's get the band together, and and long came uh this rehearsal
Hall was trying to do a remembranceof all the bands that have retre in
(11:39):
LA and so they said, well, Little Feet, can you come in
and and do was hat So thatwas really the first time that they had
been together since the Little Past.And they include Craig Fuller, another friend
of theirs. Uh. They broughthim in to sing a lot of Low's
(12:00):
leads and they said, you knowwhat, to feel so good, let's
reform the band. So they wentback together and I don't know if they
were with Warner Brothers at the time, but anyhow, they put out Let
It Roll, and in the recordingof it, they called Bob and I
and said, would you like tocome in and do some backgrounds? Oh,
(12:20):
yeah, we love too. Sowent in and did a couple of
things with that record, and thenthey called me back for the next one
as well as representing the Mambo,which was I think their third record,
their Shape something, but anyway,it was at the third time around,
(12:41):
and then then they lost their contracts. So we are doing some pre production,
don't have a record deal right now, but can you come over and
us we're the backgrounds with us.Sure, go over to Paul's house.
We do that, YadA, YadA, YadA. And at the end of
that day they goes, you knowwhat, we had the song that one
of the guys that writes a lotwith us wrote, and I don't know
(13:03):
if we're going to get the trackright, So can you just do us
a favor and go home and learnthe song and sing the lead on it,
and then come back and then we'llrecord the track and see if it's
even worthy of us doing the trackright. So I did that. We
recorded the track, and so atthe end of that they got all quiet,
and Paul came over to me andthey were all sitting in the room
(13:26):
and and he said, uh,hey, Sean, well what would you
do if you found yourself in themiddle of nowhere on a bus on twelve
other guys? And that's how theyasked me to join the place. This
sounds like a real setup, Ihave to tell you. But yeah,
and you said, hey, I'dlove to do that. Well was Richie
(13:54):
Haylor used to say on a busyou got to learn how to get small.
And they realized that, I'm knowhow to get small. You can't
have those big personalities on with twelvepeople in the bus. Yeah. Well,
and that that's a great story.Yeah. So how many years did
you travel around with little feet?A few? Anyway? Right, a
(14:15):
little over fifteen years? Oh yeah, little little more than a few.
How I ended up? I'm onlythirty seven. I don't know how that
worked. Well that is That isjust an amazing story, And what an
amazing band. And you're still workingwith them? Are they still out there
touring a little bit? Oh?Yeah, they're still out there touring.
(14:37):
They came to well, Bill Penncame to Nashville. He was working with
the Doobie Brothers at that time.So I went and saw them. But
they've got new wind in their sale. I'm telling you, they've got a
couple of new people taken over somespots at New Drummer. Gosh, I'm
(14:58):
so sorry. I can't I can'ttell you their names, but they are
getting some great, great press,so everybody should go see him. There
are a lot of bands right now, uh, some classic bands, heritage
bands, legacy bands that are retooling, coming back because there's nothing out there.
It's it's getting you know, it'sgetting a little thin. So it's
(15:18):
it's great to have, you know, at least the legacy of some of
that music still alive, like whenI was talking to Jerry Shirley of Humble
Pie, or seeing a band likeMolly Hatchett or Foget. I talked to
Roger Earl here the other day.He's he's eighty, he's got fog Hat
out there, and uh, youknow that was a great show and he's
(15:39):
got good players and and why not. You know, the legacy of the
music still lives. People still loveit. So so I'm expecting you to
do you know, the Silver Bulletalbum from front to cover, you know,
from front to back, you cando the whole thing. There was
(16:00):
talk back in the day, butyou know, you know, Aldo's gone
and that was so sad. Yeah, it was just so sick, gone
off and doing their own little thingsand stuff. So had you I don't
think Punch Punch has the energy forany of that stuff. Yeah, I'm
with you there, But had youknown on that last tour that Alto was
(16:22):
that ill? Absolutely not nobody knew. Nobody knew. I know it,
you know, I was. That'swhy I asked, because my wife and
I were with him, and Ithought there was a little something different his
hair, maybe his skin color.But you know, you don't think of
it. He's still totally energetic andtalking and yeah, you know, he
(16:49):
the only thing that we all sawwas the fact that he was moving a
little flower, and even at rehearsalhe was really moving. But at at
the gigs he was still kind ofbeing very careful and methodical about moving and
turning and all this kind of stuff. And as a matter of fact,
(17:11):
you know, Bob, I mean, of course he didn't know anything,
and he would get upset with Altobecause he wasn't, you know, come
on, let's do this, andit wasn't fast enough. And so I'm
sure Bob's kicking himself, you know, knowing now what he knows. Oh
sure. It was just oh mygod, Well that was that. You
(17:32):
know, that whole band was sucha it was family. It really wasn't
a band anymore. It had reallytruly become family. I know there were
people in and out of it,but the nucleus, the core was always
there. And the length of youknow, how long you guys were together,
you know, it just oh yeah, yeah, I mean I guess
the timing for the Silver Bullet Bandwas pretty right on though. I mean,
(17:56):
with the fact that Alto passing awayand the COVID coming in and all
of those things, good time tomaybe put it to rest for a while.
Anyway, who knows, Yeah,I think he there was just a
few uh rays of sunshine, Iwant to say where Bob would say maybe
(18:19):
we should get the band back onit, because he'll never stop recording,
and that's that's his life's blood,you know, and so when he when
he gets out there recording, hewants to hear it live. And so
we actually did a rehearsal. Yeah, I had heard about that, and
(18:40):
I actually talked about it on theradio, and then I thought, gee,
I hope I didn't jinx the wholedamn thing, because it just kind
of went away. Yeah, I'mnot sure what happened, what put the
kibosh on that on not. Youknow, both Bob and Punch have been
so close mouth the entire time I'vetold them, which is almost my whole
(19:02):
life, and so uh, younever know what's going on in their minds.
So well, and then of courseCOVID hit, and then all the
bands were getting sick and the tourswere canceling, and so I think he
was right not to go out.Well, I mean, look at the
Eagles are back okay, so youknow, I mean you can never say
(19:26):
never, I guess because they saidnever never never, never, never never,
and they're back out there. Anotherthing that Bob used to say,
you know, all my friends hewouldn't He was nice enough not to name
any names, but he said alot of my friends are going back out
there after their final tour, andthey keep going out there at saying that
this is the final, final,final, and they keep going out there.
(19:49):
He says, I don't want tobe one of those bands. So
I think if he if he wouldhave gone out, who knows. Nobody's
talking. Nobody said one day aboutanything, But if you were to go
back out, I think it wouldbe one time only. If one tour,
a short tour, yeah, ora big festival thing maybe, you
(20:10):
know, like Coachella. I don'tthink he's like the residency kind of guy,
but he's Yeah, that would befantastic, and he could do so
much. I mean, he couldjust sit down there by himself and do
acoustic. You know, he coulddo the old stuff, the news stuff,
he could do everything. Yeah.Well, I'm sure that when it
(20:33):
happens that, I'm sure you'll getthe call, no doubt about it.
Tell me about this band you've gotand and for the most part that are
backing you up here, I'm cominghome. Is this the live band as
well? Yes, the last threeor four records, I've had the live
band because I just wanted that sound. And these guys are so great.
(20:57):
Uh. We worked together as aunit as a family, and they get
in there and they get it done. They're all focused and they're just great
at at the live performance. Whynot use the guys. I just I've
always been that mindset, you know. I Mean, they come a time
(21:18):
where I I get offered to dowith the big guys, you know,
record something, but that hasn't happenedyet. So but I'm not I'm not
even thinking about that. These guysare just so fantastic. I've got,
of course Tom del Rossi on drums. Uh, John Marcus who was with
(21:42):
Oh God at Tim McGraw for twentysome years. I've got Kenny Kramer on
guitar. I've got Tommy Stillwell,who actually Kenny and Tommy wrote with on
keep your Head above Water with Meand as well as Evil Memory. Tommy
(22:03):
and Larry Grisham of the Beat Daddieswrote that song. So I did that
kind of as a tribute to Larrybecause he passed a little while ago.
Okay as well, so well,i'd see you, Okay, go ahead.
No, I have this new kidwho is just politeful. His name
was Anthony saidock. You know,when you're off off the road for a

time, your your members will kindof filter off. And I had some
great keyboard players along the way,and and uh, when when it was
time to reform and go out,they were working with other people. So
uh. A friend of mine mentionedthis Anthony Sadeck, and he's got to
be in his twenties. He's soyoung, but he is so fantastic,

So I can't I can't wait foryou to hear him. And he's just
got a smile that'll bounce your heart. Well every time every time I saw
you live, and that was alot of times at Kelly Hands, which
was a great place. It wasa great club to UH to showcase your
music. And I'm really sad thatthat place has gone to Sean Mike Moss

had some health issues and yeah hefinally had to close. But yeah,
it'll be great too. And youknow there are some places though that are
starting to UH to fill that void. And I'm going to get you some
names and numbers and we're going toget you in here to UH to do
a live showcase for this new CD, which once again people should go to
