Down Bad MMCs are male main characters who are so obsessed with their women that they would do anything and everything for them. Jordan and Devonnie share recommendations of their favorite fictional men with you. Do they sometimes go too far? Yes. But that's what we love about them.

Things some of these MMC's have done in the name of love:

  • Tattoo themselves
  • Leave their faith
  • Destroy entire worlds
  • Agree to share her with other men
  • Stalk her
  • Order all blond men to shave their heads
  • Trick her into a marriage of convenience

Jordan (00:28):
Hi And what are you reading?

Devonnie (00:30):
I was just trying to think because honestly the chaos
that is my reading routine rightnow, you know what?
I'm gonna talk about this booktoday, for the episode, but I am
listening to salt kiss by sierrasimone And baby, when I tell you
i'ma save it i'ma save it butSierra.
Wow.

(00:50):
The woman that you are.
Yeah.

Jordan (00:53):
Hi, I'm Jordan.
I am currently reading I'll BeHome by Tate James and Heather
Long and that's on pause while Iread and I'm about done with
Power Play by Chelsea Curdo.
Am also started today listeningto Before I Let Go by Kennedy
Ryan.

(01:13):
And I might be done, not becauseit's not an amazing book, but
because it's triggering somethings for me, and I just don't
know if I can do it.
We found my hard limit, andit's, it has nothing to do with
dark romance.
has to do with marriage and reallife issues.

Devonnie (01:34):
real life being scary.

Jordan (01:36):
I mean, yeah, it's traumatizing.
So buckle up for some bookishbanter.
Just get some bally in there.
Yes.

Devonnie (01:48):
Oh man.
Yeah.
But yeah, how are we feelingtoday, Jordan?

Jordan (01:51):
It's been a long few days for me.
So tonight I'm ready to justForget about real life for a
little bit and I'm ready to diveinto some fictional worlds and
I'm really ready to just swoonover some Male main characters
that are down bad,

Devonnie (02:10):
Absolutely.

Jordan (02:10):
that no one in real life can touch, even my amazing
husband, who is down bad, butlet's face it, he does not have
the resources that thesefictional men do.

Devonnie (02:21):
I love that.
Yeah.
Cause when these men get ontheir knees or whatever it is
that they're groveling or justexisting in the relationship,

Jordan (02:30):
Destroying worlds, it's,

Devonnie (02:32):
destroying world, like whatever it is just so good.
So yeah, I actually have a quoteand the quote that I chose.
today.
So I, at first I was only goingto show choose the very end of
it.
Cause it's a really long quote, but I think I want to read the
full quote because I think itreally summarizes the down, bad
energy.

(02:53):
Yeah, so buckle up.
This is from one of my favoritereads of the year or listens, I
should say, cause listening toit was just really chef's kiss.
It's lights out by I spoke aboutthis in a previous.
But yeah, this is the quote, myentire life was devoted to
caring for others.

(03:13):
I wanted someone to take care ofme for once.
I wanted someone to want me, noneed me.
I wanted a man so obsessed thathe hacked into cameras to watch
me when he couldn't sleep.
I wanted him to monitor mylocation, data, order me a home
security system so no one elsecould break into my house and
threatened to murder anyone whohurt me.

(03:33):
I didn't want him morally gray.
I wanted someone with a soul asblack as night.
Someone who would burn the worlddown for me and not lose a
single minute of sleep over it.
If that does not surmise likethe down bad MMCs that we're
going to talk about today, Ifeel like all of them, every
single one of them are probablyThey are going to do

Jordan (03:57):
so fucked up.
That is

Devonnie (03:59):
It is so bad.
Do you hear the thing she listedhack into

Jordan (04:03):
I want him to, you want him to kill someone for you?

Devonnie (04:05):
You want that?

Jordan (04:07):
oh.
Do you know who she would loveoutside of her own world?
She would love Sam Kyle.
Let me read you what's, yes, because my quote leads right
into that.
Are you ready?
Okay, this is Samkael from TheDawn of the Cursed Queen, which
is book three in the Gods andMonsters series by Amber V.
Nicole.
This will not spoil anything,okay?

(04:28):
We know this is a fantasyromance, so you know their
relationship changes from hatingeach other at the beginning,
okay?
Get over it, it's not an actualspoiler.
She did not fully understand thelengths I would go to for her.
Destroying a world was not evena fraction of it.
She thought me a hero, but ahero would defy others for the
greater good.

(04:49):
She was mine, and for her, I'ddo the unthinkable.
My strong, fierce, beautifulgirl who thought she could take
the world on all by herself.
Only she had me now, and godsabove and below helped me.
Anyone who thought they couldhurt or take her away from me.
I'd destroy several worlds if itmeant keeping you safe.

(05:09):
You have no idea the limits I'dgo to for you.
And I think that's veryforeshadowing into what's going
to happen in book four.
I had a little back and forthwith Amber and we're scared.

Devonnie (05:20):
Casual.

Jordan (05:21):
We're scared.
Okay, I think this wasforeshadowing.
Just gonna say that.

Devonnie (05:27):
What?

Jordan (05:28):
And this is not a spoiler because I don't know,
because book four is not out.
I think this is a foreshadowing.
Amber, come on.
Come on down.
Let's chat.
Let's,

Devonnie (05:37):
Yeah.

Jordan (05:38):
Figure this out because this is down bad if you had the
power of all the gods.

Devonnie (05:44):
Right.
Right.
If you were the God The H G I C.
Yeah, head god in charge.
If you were that man, this isactually terrifying behavior.

Jordan (05:54):
Yeah And if you've read the first or even second one and
you haven't read the third Tohear this you're like what you
need to read because you need tosee what happened It's unhinged.

Devonnie (06:03):
Yeah.
Allie would for sure love hersome kale, if she likes them
down bad.

Jordan (06:09):
Yeah, and you know, I was thinking maybe some of our
listeners, Don't know what thatmeans and I was like I think
it'd be funny to look up thedefinition of the slang term
down bad because let's face it Ijust had to so for those of you
who are like, what are theytalking about?
Let me educate you, okay?
Down bad is a slang term thatmeans to be in a bad state or

(06:32):
condition, especially whenfeeling strong and usually
unrequited feelings ofattraction, desire, or
infatuation.
It can also mean being desperatefor love or attention, often
used when someone is cravingaffection or validation.
The term is often used tohumorously, not humorously in
this case.
They are down bad, obsessed, andMMC is short for male main

(06:54):
character if you have not caughtup on that yet.

Devonnie (06:58):
Yes, exactly.
So we've got a bunch of down badMMCs and honestly great book
recs for you.
Some of them you may have heardabout before from my side.
I know that some of these I mayhave mentioned or at least the
authors I've talked aboutbefore.
But some of these men are justHAHA! I know Jordan's laughing
because she's like the queen oftalking about the same authors

(07:19):
every episode.
They're

Jordan (07:21):
have new ones, okay?

Devonnie (07:22):
Yeah, we love that for you.
I would love to start thismeeting I'm going to talk about
Sierra Simone and the firstseries I'm going to mention is
her priest series.
So Sierra Simone has the seriespriest, which by now a lot of
you have probably heard theaudio of where the first book is
my name is Taylor and some belland whatever he would do it

(07:44):
again.
He's.
Anyway, he's down bad and thataudio really okay.
It's like really it's a reallypopular Clip from the audio book
of how down bad he is.
I will also like to preface thisby saying I am pretty sure
Zachary weber slash jacob morgan

Jordan (07:59):
Talk about

Devonnie (08:00):
Is the narrator i'm actually obsessed with him

Jordan (08:02):
Dev is down bad.

Devonnie (08:03):
all three books I am down bad for that man's voice
Okay, I don't know himpersonally.
I don't know that manpersonally.
I probably walked by him on thestreet You know what i'm saying?
I'm But when I hear his voicepop into my headphones, I'm sat
down bad for him.
So he is the narrator, I'mpretty sure of all three
brothers, which is psychotic andso delicious.
But the pre series basicallyfollows a group of brothers who,

(08:25):
or a trio, well it's four ofthem, but I'm not sure if she'll
ever do a book for the fourthbrother.
I'm not really sure, but thethree oldest brothers get a
book.
They face some really heavytrauma.
Within their teenage or youngeryears when their sister unalives
herself due to being abused bysomeone in the church family was

(08:48):
a very heavy church family andthat happens and pretty much
destroys his family or theirfamily, you know, they'll, they
all band together, like thefamily bands together, but they
kind of separate themselves fromtheir friends, obviously from
the church, from likeeverything.
So each brother's story kind ofmentions that and how it was a

(09:09):
turning point.
The first book, Tyler is apriest.
He's a full blown priest, myloves.
He's doing priestly things.
He's wearing the garb.
He's abstaining.
He's teaching the sermons.
Whatever you imagine a priest tobe, that's him.
He's here to serve hiscommunity, his people, and most

(09:30):
importantly, his God.
In walks motherfucking Poppy, and Poppy gets this man so down
bad that by the end of it, isthis a spoiler?
I don't, this might be aspoiler.
If you know a priest, and thenyou know romance writing and a
happy ever after, You probablyknow that they get, yeah, you
probably know they're going toget together, so I don't know if

(09:50):
it's too much of a spoileranyway, he quits being the
priest expeditiously to be withher, but the way he goes about
it.
When I tell you, he cannot keephis hands off this woman.
I'm talking in the church onHoly ground using Holy waters
and oils, baby down bad book twois called sinner, and this might
be.
It was my favorite book becausethe first book I don't love as

(10:13):
much.
I love it, but I don't love itas much.
Second book is Sinner.
You want to tell you Sean has mein a chokehold.
This man, his main character isactually his best friend's
younger sister.
Baby girl is about to take hervows to become a nun.
Okay.
She's closing herself off to theworld.
She's serving her God.

Jordan (10:34):
closing her legs to the world, yes.

Devonnie (10:36):
Exactly.
She decides, you know what?
F it.
I have a couple months.
I'm gonna live life

Jordan (10:42):
And God will forgive me anyways, because he forgives
sins.

Devonnie (10:45):
So let me live my life.
I'm gonna experience the worldbefore I take this vow.
She decides Who better to teachme to live my life than Sean
Bell?
Baby, this man drinks, smokes, goes to strip clubs just for
fun.
He dresses like a milliontrillion dollars when he walks
out.
He's like cutthroat, financial, and gets the job done money.

(11:07):
Whatever you picture a financebro is, yes, finance bro,
fuckboy.
That is, that, that is exactlywhat I picture Sean as, and he's
fine.
So anyway, they get together.
He's I can show you the world, you know, it's very much
bringing her out.
Yeah, and show her everythingSean is so down bad She is

(11:28):
volunteering at the I was aboutto say the nunnery volunteering
somewhere where the nuns Existgirl don't when I tell you I
read about religion.
I am not a part of it Anyway, the nuns are gathered and she's
volunteering there.
She's working if you will

Jordan (11:43):
There's a gaggle of nuns, if you will.

Devonnie (11:45):
You Yeah, everybody's serving the good lord, being
nuns and stuff.
She's on the frickin countertop.
Getting her bean fiddled bySean.
Yeah, flicked.
He's defiling her in some, in aplace that should be sacred.

(12:06):
Okay, he is so down bad he couldnot wait to defile her in the
privacy of their own home or hisown home.
Like he has her, this man who'slike smoking, drinking, off to
the strip club.
Is slowly I'm a one woman man.
I need her.
I have to see her, okay?
Down bad

Jordan (12:24):
fiction.

Devonnie (12:25):
Yes, exactly.
The final brother in this seriesis Aiden.
His book is called Saint.
Now, if you don't know mecaveat, if you do know me, stop
listening right now.
Right.
SCRAM!

Jordan (12:41):
Anyways,

Devonnie (12:42):
Yeah, so if you

Jordan (12:43):
Now let's talk more about desecrating the church.

Devonnie (12:45):
Right, speaking of desecrating the church, Aiden,
the third brother, Oh, I swearto God, sometimes I just, The
Jamaican just pops the fuck out.
The third brother, is in thesaint book, the one with the
beautiful cover.
He is, has decided to become amonk.
He was also a little financebro.

(13:07):
They all have to have aconnection with religion and
like the and I'll get into theway Sierra writes.
I just want to get his downbadness out.
So he decides to become a monk.
Aiden is like spending money.
He's like living his life.
He stepped out of the city, getsa farmhouse like away from his
family.
And he's you know, one withnature has his farmhouse, but
he.
Now chooses to set sights on hisbrother, Sean, who's now wife,

(13:34):
Zenny, okay, her older brother.
So do you see what we have here?
His

Jordan (13:39):
that was a big, you paused really long after
brother, and I was like, Whereis this going?
Yeah, it was a really longpause, and I was like, Please
give me more.
Please tell me there's more.

Devonnie (13:51):
There is more.
So it says technically hisbrother in law, it's his
brother's Sean's best friend.

Jordan (13:57):
that's not, no.
I mean, if

Devonnie (13:59):
It doesn't really

Jordan (14:00):
can marry twins I feel like

Devonnie (14:02):
Right.
Right.
I don't think this was a taboorelationship.
It's maybe taboo in the sensethat yeah, they're like they
grew, yeah, it's messy and theygrew up together, but I don't
think it's taboo.
And if y'all okay.
What I was going to say earlieris I am feral.
For an relationship.
I I love MMF.

(14:22):
I'm sorry, that's like top tierfor me when there's three of
them in there.
But the care and the tendernessand just, oh my goodness.
It is so Good, it is so good.
So Aiden decides he wants to bea monk.
He's out there in thewilderness.
He's monking it around I don'tknow monks are so funny Also,
like I had a different idea ofmonks in my life, but they was

(14:45):
cracking jokes and making beerDid you know that's how monks
sometimes make money unless thisis in Sierra?
Yeah, they make It's who theylike their beers are sought
after in the world.
Anyway, so sierra did teach mesomething Thank you.
Anyone who's a clitorature isn'tinformational You're wrong.
Anyway, he just has to be a monkI've been learning so much.

(15:10):
Aiden is like being his monklife He's you know feel he had
felt like he had to give up allhis money and give up all of his
belongings Because he wentthrough something traumatic an
event that could have went oneway and he was saved.
And he took that saving as asign that he needed to devote
his life to God to pay penancefor the life he had previously
lived incomes, his loveinterest.

(15:32):
Who's it's crazy that I cannotremember his name right now.
And that's pissing me offanyway.
The love interest has also had achange of life.
They were together, they thoughtthey would be each other's
everything.
Five years have passed, becauseAiden literally, the same day he
had this aha, come to Jesus, literally, moment, he left
everything.
Donated all his money, left hisfarmhouse, like all this kind of

(15:54):
stuff, and decided to live in amonastery.
Number one down, bad Aiden endsup not becoming a monk anymore.
Obviously he leaves the faith togo be with his husband, right?
He goes to be with his husband.
So we already know we're lookingfor a happy ending.
There's a happy ending in all ofthese, but like the.
The thing that I would say aboutthe way Sierra Simone writes her

(16:16):
male main characters is.
Is that everything they say justfeels like they're down bad.
Like the way I describe Sierra'swriting, it's like characters
are itching to get out of theirskin, to be with this person, to
crawl into this other person.

(16:38):
And it's reflected.
It's reflected in the way.
That they talk about themselvesand also about how this other
person makes them feel like witha, with all three brothers,
there's no like major, you know, buying land or no monetary
things, but the severing oftheir religious relationships

(17:02):
and not really completelycutting it off and their way of
life.
Their entire way of life, whatthey have decided to dedicate
themselves to, and just to beable to have a relationship with
this other person, is epitome ofdown bad.
Epitome, because they changedtheir entire life to basically
live in this person's skin.

Jordan (17:23):
That's so much pressure as that female main character,
or that other, that female maincharacter or other spouse like
in, I'm thinking about this inreal life terms, which I
shouldn't.
This is what Kennedy Ryan doesto me now, making me feel feels.
But,

Devonnie (17:36):
Right.
Cause it is contemporary.
So you can like, honestly see ithappening.

Jordan (17:40):
and And also

Devonnie (17:40):
know it's a

Jordan (17:41):
coming from a religious background myself.
I'm like, that is so muchpressure.

Devonnie (17:48):
It's terrifying, but

Jordan (17:50):
But fictionally, it sounds

Devonnie (17:52):
it.
I mean, it is so hot.
It is because you know, thatobsession, I think everyone
wants the person they're with tobe at least a little bit
obsessed with them

Jordan (18:03):
Huh.

Devonnie (18:04):
To feel like they're You are all I see, your needs, I
want you happy, I want you smilYou know, we all crave just a
tiny bit of obsession, and theBell brothers, when they see
obsession, they're like, I coulddo you, I could do you one
better, baby.
Hold my beer.
They're like, it's like theyjust have to one up, and that's

Jordan (18:23):
my rosary.
Here we go.

Devonnie (18:25):
yeah.
Oh, hold my rosary is correct.
Except for Sean, because Seanwasn't really, but he sure did
let that, he turned that nunloose.
He turned her loose,

Jordan (18:35):
Oh my And we're, look at that.
And we just got Dev's first rackdone.

Devonnie (18:40):
To be fair, you have three books.
Enjoy my loves.

Jordan (18:45):
Well, now I'm like, what do I start with?
That was three for one special.

Devonnie (18:51):
I know.
I felt like I just had to talkabout all three of them.
Like I couldn't just pick one.

Jordan (18:56):
that's fair.
I will keep it contemporary.
How about that?
Because I only have onecontemporary i'm gonna start my
first rec tonight is face off bychelsea curto If you haven't
listened to our interview withchelsea Please go listen to that
after this one because it was sogood chelsea is so amazing and
her writing reflects that too.

(19:17):
Face Off is the first book in arelatively newer series for her.
The DC star series.
Second one is power play.
I'm almost done with it, butmaverick Miller is like the
definition of contemporary down, bad, like contemporary in the
way that.

(19:37):
It would actually happen in reallife.
Does that make

Devonnie (19:39):
feels

Jordan (19:40):
The things could actually happen I mean besides
the fact that he is this allstar NHL player because it is a
hockey romance maverick millerhits on any woman who breathes
when he hits on a new face withgreat legs in the arena where he
plays.
He thinks it's a fan.

(20:01):
Hey, you need a, you need anautograph?
Do you need my number?
In reality, it's his newteammate.
Who he is there to meet.
her name is Emerson Hartwell.
Emmy for short.
It's a dislike to friends withbenefits.
To obsessive love.
Obviously that first encounterbetween them does not set a good

(20:21):
tone, like it does not paint hima good light.
He is the captain of the team.
did not do his homework to seewho Emerson is, Emerson is the
first woman to play in the NHL.
It's a really big deal for her.
So she's there, first day ofwork, representing an entire
gender, right?
It's a monumental moment, andhere her captain is hitting on
her

Devonnie (20:40):
huh.
Huh.

Jordan (20:43):
and so

Devonnie (20:44):
huh.

Jordan (20:45):
it's like fuck you from the beginning and not in a nice
way and She's amazing.
She's amazing, too But thethings that he does and the way
he appreciates her as a woman Ina male dominated sport, the way
he supports her as an athleticwoman, who still wears her

(21:09):
heels, who still drives to befeminine, but can get out there
and slam a man against the wall.
boards and get slammed back.
I mean, it's amazing.
He finds out before this gameand this is before they're
official, like they're justfucking around, but him and the
team find out before, rightbefore they go on the ice that
her ex got called up to the NHLand he's playing against them.

(21:31):
And he was obviously a reallyshitty ex.
Who couldn't handle a girlfriendwho was more successful than
him.
a lot of men can't.
And he gets the team to justruin him.
And then when the time comes, heliterally throws off his gloves
and beats the ever loving shitout of him.
On the ice in the middle of thegame fully prepared to get

(21:54):
kicked out He told his coachahead of time.
He's gonna get kicked out andit's send me the fine Send me
the fine.
This one's for you.
I just he wears her jersey totheir I think it's like their
hero night or whatever They havea night at the arena where they
wear or it's like legends Orsomething like that.
And he wears her jersey,

Devonnie (22:13):
love it when the male main character wears the female
main character's likeparaphernalia.
Necklace, jersey, shirt it'sjust so cute.

Jordan (22:20):
gets a woman's locker room put into the arena because
for almost the entire book shehas to use a broom closet.
He threatens the whole book totattoo the word mine on his
hand, so that, you know, whenhe's looking at her at certain
times, it labels her as mine.
The reason, at first I didn'tknow how I felt about that, I'm
like, that's kind of cheesy.
But then, the more I thoughtabout it, I'm like, he's not

(22:42):
branding her.
But he's claiming her withoutbranding her.
So in dark romance, they'lllike, that is a trope where they
literally brand their name on agirl.
was like, so different.
And then later he gets Emmy'spretty boy tattooed on his
collarbone.
You can hear that in the secondbook about shirtless every

(23:02):
chance he gets, so everyone cansee.
And

Devonnie (23:05):
it.
It's

Jordan (23:06):
he And that's not even everything he does for her and
oh and the evolution of hischaracter.
He's so down bad like

Devonnie (23:16):
Yeah.
I would, Maverick is the mostdown bad.
MMC that Chelsea has everwritten, I would think.

Jordan (23:23):
Yeah, she said liam would give him a run for her
money.
But So far, I think maverickstill consistently through the
book was More maybe it's justlike outwardly down bad, right?
So

Devonnie (23:33):
Mmm.

Jordan (23:34):
I swoon Yeah, and then they also joke in Power play.
This is about maverick and emmy.
So i'm not gonna worry about itbeing a spoiler for power play,
but they even joke about himtaking her last name once they
retire because for everything soAnd I really hope that happens
in later books that we see himtake her last name because that

(23:56):
would just show how down bad heis and how proud he is of her
accomplishments.

Devonnie (24:01):
Yeah.
And honestly how proud he is tobe her man.
That's Maverick's energy.
He is so proud to be Emmys man.
Like I'm Emmys.
It's not even like she's mine.
She's his.
Yes.
But he's more.
I'm hers.
I belong to her.
And that's the difference.

Jordan (24:17):
I know and actually now that I think about it three out
of my four recs they Take theman or men take her last name

Devonnie (24:27):
Really?

Jordan (24:29):
move.
That is a total down by move Itis in my mind now and I never
even realized that until rightnow

Devonnie (24:35):
okay, since we're still in contemporary, I'mma
switch it up real quick and I'mgonna take us into fey world.
I'm pretty sure that I'vementioned this book already,
multiple times.
But, I will never get over thisman.
Viciously Yours by JamieApplegate Hunter.
Baby, I don't think I've everseen a fey man as down bad as

(24:57):
Renek, okay?
So the premise of this book isthat when you are a certain age,
maybe 13 or so, the fateswhisper the name of your mate in
your ear.
So you know their name and thensome kind of bond develops where
you can find them or whatever.
Now Renek is A prince at thistime when he gets his mate's

(25:20):
name whispered to him and it's abig deal because in the world
that they live in, if someoneelse knows your mate's name or
who they are, they can obviouslygo harm that mate and you know,
just use that as some kind ofbargain, power play, whatever.
So of course he keeps it closeto himself.
He doesn't tell anyone.
I think he tells his parents, but that's it.
No one knows that he has heardhis mate's name.

(25:43):
Then he finds her.
And he basically stalks herAlthough i'm laughing but when
he actually stalks her you get afamiliar You get a familiar in
this world and i'm pretty surehis is a bird of some kind an
owl I can't remember but he useshis familiar to go fly and spy
on her because he can seethrough her eye Through the

(26:04):
bird's eyes, so he seeseverything that she's doing He,
he starts sending her mail fromthe age of 13 and then you
cannot go physically claim yourmate until you are 25.
So he die a fucking bollicle.
Can you imagine the years ofpent up aggression this man has
had to

Jordan (26:23):
During the primitive years, like during those very
horny

Devonnie (26:26):
The worst part is the worst part is most of the fae
princes and stuff.
They get a fey mate.
Rennick gets a human mate whohas no idea of what the world
she's about to be pulled into.
She is just livin yeah, I heardabout the fey.
Okay, girl.
I Please read it.

(26:47):
And I can't wait for book two.
Because the author has said thatbook two, the male main
character, is worse thanRennick.
And I simply cannot fathom.
I said, Renick is so down badthat when he realizes that she,
so obviously she, Amelia doesn'tbelieve him.
She's an orphan.
She has nobody.
She's like living her life.
She doesn't believe that thisman who keeps sending her

(27:07):
letters actually wants her andis going to come get her, but
she enjoys the letters, right?
She

Jordan (27:13):
She enjoys the letters.

Devonnie (27:15):
Yeah.
She enjoys the letters.
She decides I'm going to live mylife.
I'm going to lose my virginity.
I'm going to do things, youknow?
And she does,

Jordan (27:22):
I remember you talking about oh

Devonnie (27:24):
Yes, I support women's rights and women's wrongs.
Knowing that this man is writingher letters, she goes and does
her business.
She takes care of her womanlyneeds, okay?
Renick, with his bird's eyeview, sees that this man does
not appreciate his woman.
This man does not dote on her, does not care for her, does not,
you know, it's really not givingfor Renick.

(27:46):
But also, you

Jordan (27:47):
Bird's eye view.
I

Devonnie (27:49):
Renick.
Offs the man that she sleepswith for a multitude of reasons.
Number one, touching her andsleeping with her when he
cannot.
Number two, you didn't even doit right, bro.
That's how Rennick feels ifyou're gonna take my girl, do it
correctly.
And he did not.
Offs him.
Then what does Rennick do?
Sends her moles.

(28:10):
He sends her moles of his, huh, moles in different sizes.
So she can prepare for when theymeet molds.
Yes.
He creates, he's Hey babe, Iknow you're searching for
something.
Hold on to these until we canmeet.

(28:30):
He is so down bad for her.
when he realizes that she likesblondes, that she like, may like
blondes or something, he tellsevery blonde in the kingdom to
shave their fucking head.

Jordan (28:42):
Oh

Devonnie (28:45):
Shave your head and do it now.
Yes he's down.
I fear that did something to me.
Could you imagine the people ofthe town lining up to get their
head shaved because their princehas ordered it?
No blondes in the kingdom.
I shall be the only person shelooks at.

Jordan (29:01):
That reminds

Devonnie (29:02):
Yeah.
I love

Jordan (29:02):
of a book.
I read where blonde saidsuperpowers and we're almost

Devonnie (29:06):
Oh god I remember that.
Okay, we're not even gonna talkabout that Oh the last down bad
thing the last down bad thing.
Sorry that I will mention I hopethis is not a spoiler but a
woman touches renek's arm Awoman touches Rennick's arm,
picture it, a woman touches hisarm and Amelia sees it.
She's of course like, Oh mygosh, like, why?

(29:27):
What are y'all to each other?
You know, she's feeling

Jordan (29:30):
feelings

Devonnie (29:31):
about the situation.
She's feeling feelings.
She tells it to the man.
She, you let her touch you.
What do you think my boy Rennickdoes in this moment?
Does he, A, say sorry, B, tellher it'll never happen again, or
C, Cut off the patch of skinthat the woman touched and

(29:53):
throws it away Because he knowit will heal and he will have
erased the touch of this otherwoman from his body ABRC my
loves.
What do you think?

Jordan (30:05):
Oh my god.

Devonnie (30:06):
I love him.
He's so done bad.
I can't wait for book two.

Jordan (30:09):
I love the passion you're coming with these.

Devonnie (30:11):
I Love it.
I truly I and I know I'vementioned this on the podcast a
couple of times but like it'sjust You Yeah, he's just so

Jordan (30:18):
perfectly for today's.

Devonnie (30:20):
yeah for

Jordan (30:22):
Well, I will keep it fey.

Devonnie (30:24):
Huh.

Jordan (30:24):
Shocker, you guys.
Excuse me.
So I don't know if you've heardof them yet, but Caroline
Peckham and Suzanne Valenti theywrote

Devonnie (30:35):
I hate her.
I hate her listeners help.
She said have y'all heard of

Jordan (30:40):
I tried not to I really did but I haven't talked about
this one.
So It's an obsession, okay?
Listen, if you

Devonnie (30:50):
You could be doing

Jordan (30:51):
or you are Caroline Peckham and Susanna Lytte, I
would love to have you on thepod, okay?
I'll just tell you how much Ilove you both, for an hour.
It's fine.
I won't do that.
I will be way more professional,I promise.
Anyways dark Fae is the firstbook in Ruthless Boys of the

(31:12):
Zodiac.
Okay.
Now you may say, Zodiac, wasn'tit called Zodiac Academy?
What you always talk about?
And yes, it was.
This is technically a different, this is a different series, a
prequel series.
There is a, what primarily onecrossover character that you see
later in Zodiac Academy.
And I read Z.
A.
first and I knew that character.

(31:33):
And I was like, Oh, this is hisstory, right?
Like 10 years before when hewent to an academy, a different
academy, like the poor one inthe town where the government
has just let run wild.
And lawless, basically.
I'm like, oh, this is a lovestory.
I just went in blind.

(31:54):
I didn't even read that thewhole series was called Ruthless
Boys.
So I was not aware that this isa Why Choose going into it.
And so I'm like, what the fuckare all these other guys doing?
We haven't even heard from thismain guy and I'm so excited.
And I was like, why is she evengiving interest?
Okay, they're gonna be done.
This is just a game.

(32:15):
And it took me a while and Ifinally went like half, over
halfway through this book and Ihad to go back and read.
I was like, oh, she doesn't haveto choose.
It was very confusing for me,but it's great.
Anyways, I digress.
Dark Fey.
Picture it.
A vampire.
It's a vampire.
who grew up basically in a stripclub, her mom was a stripper and

(32:37):
a prostitute.
She grew up with her olderbrother who was just like the
center of her world, right?
They were super close.
I think only a year apart.
They lived in poverty.
They lived in a gang run townwith two opposing gangs.
All right.
Rough life.
Her brother gets a scholarship.
He's really smart.
Gets a scholarship and gets togo to the Academy in town.
Not many people get to go.

(32:58):
Basically, you have to, whatevermoney you have in this town, or
anyone has those are the kidsthat get to go, or the one
scholarship kid.
Her brother goes.
After a year and a half, hedies, and it's reported of an
overdose, but she knew herbrother, he was a pegasus, very
happy, never did drugs becausethey saw what it could do, you
know, living the way they lived, and she's that's not my brother,

(33:21):
but no one would investigate.
What does Miss Elise Callistodo?
She's going.
So she hacks into the

Devonnie (33:28):
Immediately.

Jordan (33:29):
she hacks into the system, she becomes the new The
new scholarship student becauseshe kind of did some digging
found a name That she saw likefrom a some Faye book post.
Yeah, they have Faye book.
You're welcome

Devonnie (33:43):
I

Jordan (33:44):
That he was tagged in so she finds this Supposed friend
of his and she questions him andhe's like off his face on this
drug that's kind of going aroundthat apparently her brother died
on.
She questions him and the onlyname she gets out of him is
King.
So she's I'm going to go andfind out who this King is and I
am going to enact vengeance,right?

(34:06):
This is, she is on a mission.
She's going to destroy thisperson for destroying her
brother, her world.
She doesn't care what it takes.
If it kills her, she's going todo this.
And through some investigating, she gets there and realizes that
there are technically four kingsthat called, it's like a title,
four kings of the academy, okay, are these men, young men, I

(34:27):
mean, they're like 20, so youngmen.
Each one of the gang leaders, which technically they're the
leaders of their whole gang Notjust at the academy So that's a
little far fetched for me,anyways It's this big thing who
are of course big rivals and youhave the loner harpy Who is top

(34:51):
of the class smartest?
He's the only double elementalin the whole school and then you
have You this lion shifter, thismemean lion shifter, just very
charismatic.
Like he's got this whole actualharem of women that follow him
around.
Like it's just so that's part oftheir order is they have

(35:14):
charisma And it like they wantto please him and whether that's
going to rub his Ready, they'regonna want to rub his feet.
They want to get him just theright cheese They want to give
him like anything he needs likepoor baby she gets there, and
what do you know, it's she'strying to get close to all of
these men because she's tryingto figure out what happened to
her brother.

Devonnie (35:34):
Right.

Jordan (35:35):
Does she end up fucking one, if not all of them?
Yeah, maybe.

Devonnie (35:40):
Who's to

Jordan (35:40):
not the gang leaders, because they're opposing gang
leaders, and if she hooks upwith one, then that's her
basically being initiated intothe gang, and then she's target
for the other one, but she fallsfor them all and also, Elise is
very big The polyamorouslifestyle because she saw what
falling in love could do to hermother because her mother fell
in love With her brother's dadand then he left when his lesion

(36:04):
mate popped into the picture.

Devonnie (36:06):
Oh, God.

Jordan (36:08):
Yeah messy And then her dad just disappeared before she
even had a chance to tell himshe was pregnant.
But these men are so down badfor her.
To bring it all around LeonKnight, the lion shifter he's
used to, So lions in this world, lion shifters, have prides.
So usually it's one, they callit one king, and they have their

(36:31):
women, their lionesses.
So he has three moms and onedad, and so that's usually what
he's used to, right?
I mean, it's this is thelifestyle.
If, he's it's usually opposite, but If my girl wants these other
men, then I'm gonna help hermake this happen.
And Leon is just like sunshineand rainbows and just come on.
Hey, do you want to go have athreesome with me and Kelis?
Like I've, I would really love,he's always I just, I've always

(36:52):
wondered what, like how youwould fuck her.
I just imagine it's just likereal good.
She won't tell me the details, but I just want to like, I'll
just watch.
If you're not comfortable withthat, I'll just stand back and
watch.
It's fine.
And he's so down bad and soexcited.
I just.
I love him at first.
I was like, this is ridiculous.
Oh, yes, and it's just so Oh,and so all the women that kind

(37:14):
of fall under his care his wristhe calls them all Mindy because
he can't be bothered to learntheir names because they come
and go so much.
And there's so many of them.

Devonnie (37:27):
my

Jordan (37:27):
he just calls them all Mindy.
It's super shitty.
It's super fucked up.
But the girls are just like, no,it's fine.
It's fine.
I'm Mindy.
I'm Mindy.
But he just like shuts the ballaway.
It's just so funny.
So he only uses them for likehomework and all this stuff
eventually.
And then like Gabriel, he is aseer.
So yeah, so if you've readZodiac

Devonnie (37:48):
Oh, yeah,

Jordan (37:50):
Gabriel is a seer and he, but he kind of has a block
on his powers so he only seesthings sometimes at this point
in his life and, but he, afterhe hooks up with her, he gets
this vision.
That they are lesion mates.
Or he believes they are, becausehe sees rings in both of their
eyes, and them together.
And so he's just fuck theseother guys, Lilies, this is just

(38:11):
the stars testing us.
You're gonna be over them soon, don't worry about it, I don't
get why you would talk to them.
But he also pushes her away, sohe's like down bad for her, but
he believes that he's in danger,so he keeps her at arm's length.
It's like this big back andforth.
And then the gang leaders, they're like, Get this, the gang
leaders want her so bad, butthey refuse to let the other one

(38:32):
have her that they make astarbond not to hook up with
her.
Because they're like, you can'tdo this.
Okay, well then you can't dothat, and you can't do this, and
you So it's them trying to findways around the rules to be able
to hook up and do stuff.
So technically, they are ad Thisis in the world.
If you know Zodiac, then you'llknow this term.
But these two men are astraladversaries.

(38:55):
Which, they are destined by thestars for one of them to kill
the other.
It's the opposite of Elysianmates, which is just like a way
to say fated mates.
In this world and she's havingnone of it.
She's like fuck you guys.
She's I'm it I like both of you.
You're both awesome and you bothneed to get the stick out of
your asses like get over thisfeud Like but she is so and all

(39:20):
the while she's trying to figureout if one of these one of these
men killed her brother Like youforgot like surprise.
Yeah It's so good and in thisworld Elysian mates there's
never been Elysian Multiple,right?
There's never been anyone withmore than one Elysian Mate.

Devonnie (39:37):
So interesting to me.
Cause now I'm thinking Gabrielin the Zodiac Academy books that
I'm reading and getting to knowhim, his wife, who he's talking
about, who's having his kids, has all these other mates.

Jordan (39:50):
They were very careful not to give those details in
Zodiac Academy to give awayanything.
If you go back and read it, orif you finish it, you're gonna
get hints at it.
His buddy, Leon Knight, you willsee Leon.
You will see Dante Oscura.
Oscura.

Devonnie (40:08):
Dante.
Yes.
Dante's

Jordan (40:10):
Dante is leader of his clan and then Rider Draconis is
the other.
He's a basilisk.

Devonnie (40:18):
Oh,

Jordan (40:19):
Yeah, so there is a storm dragon, a basilisk, which
is super rare.
He's like the last one in theworld.
Or in Solaria.
Lion Shifter and Harpy.
And she's a vampire.
So then she's sucking all theirblood.
And she needs a source.
Oh, so that's another thing.
She needs a source to claim asource at the school.
And technically, they have, arelike, equal in power or more

(40:42):
powerful than her.
Or more skilled in magic, so shecouldn't overpower them.
so basilisks get their powerthrough pain.
So that's how they rechargetheir magic.
It's not just their pain, but ifthey feel pain from anyone
around them, they can feel it.
So if you're beating a basilisk, all you're doing is replenishing
their power.

Devonnie (40:58):
Yeah.
Powering them up.

Jordan (40:59):
yeah.
So he's bite me, baby.
You can bite me.
You want to be, I'll be yoursource.
And he offers himself as hersource and Dante's fuck that.
You're not her source.
I'm her source.
And she's calm down.
I'll just drink from both ofyou.
So it's this constant thingwhere she's going back.
It's so good.

Devonnie (41:16):
Yeah.
That is

Jordan (41:17):
It's so

Devonnie (41:18):
not all of them being down bad.

Jordan (41:20):
Yeah, so that's what i'm saying is they are all unhinged
for her in very different waysAnd so that's what makes it so
fun and at the same time she'slike playing it cool like You
guys are fucked up if you're notgonna play along with the way I
want to play then You can getout of here and they're just
like, okay, fine.
I'll do it what you want.
I'll do what you want I'll goagainst The way I feel about
this situation, and I will dothis for you.

Devonnie (41:43):
Right.
Wow.
I love that.
I love getting the sneak peekinto Gabriel's life though,
because I really didn't knowthat was going on.

Jordan (41:52):
I didn't either! So imagine knowing that, not
knowing anything about this, going in, and then all of a
sudden you're reading about thislion shifter, and I'm like,
what?

Devonnie (41:59):
What?

Jordan (42:00):
Like, is there another man?
I was like, oh, there's men.

Devonnie (42:04):
You write multiple.

Jordan (42:05):
But then it's so fun to see the relationship then
between the guys, too, gothroughout the series, and like,
how they come to terms with it,and the different, oh, so fun.

Devonnie (42:16):
Unfortunately I'm going to pull us from the land
of the magical and bring us backto reality.

Jordan (42:20):
That's okay.
That's okay.

Devonnie (42:21):
Listeners, I am holding a copy of Swift and
Saddled by Lila Sage.
That is the book I'm going to betalking about because no one, I
have not, well, I take thatback.
I have definitely read quite afew.
Cowboys, if you will who havebeen down bad for their girls,
but Weston writer is just, Oh,Weston.

(42:44):
So this is book two in the rebelblue ranch series.
Yeah.
By Lila Sage.
And this follows the brotherWeston who basically falls for.
What he thinks is this one nightstand out of towner.
Ada, now Ada's like living herlife.
She's been through trauma.
She's just trying to get hershit together.
She's like very much so blackcat energy, like the blackest of

(43:08):
cats, you know, buried just likeon the fence.
Not too invested, playing itcool.
Just, I've been hurt before.
I don't trust anyone.
I don't have friends.
Very much that.
West is a golden retriever witha ball.
He is the happiest little manrunning around.
Just happy and funny and sweet.

(43:31):
And he is so down bad for Ada.
There's pretty much, you know, Ascene with him telling her,
baby, go ahead and run, takeyour little trips, drive away.
I'm going to be standing righthere when you come back home,
like just letting her be free, but also saying, you're going to
come back.
Like I'm going to be standingright here.
There will be no other person.

(43:52):
All throughout the book, Adarefers to Wes as being gentle,
like super gentle.
And I think that is hischaracter.
I mean, let's be serious.
He can get a little You know,Doberman, a little pit bull if
he needs

Jordan (44:05):
Doberman.
I like that.

Devonnie (44:06):
yeah,

Jordan (44:07):
Pitbull, but definitely Doberman.
I could see

Devonnie (44:09):
Doberman, he can definitely get that way.
Yes.
When he needs to, but throughoutthe book, he is very much so
golden retriever energy.
But like he's, he pretty muchtells her like what don't you
understand?
I like you.
I'm not going to stop likingyou.
If you like yourself, why don'tyou think that other people
would like you like make it makesense to me.
He's just very calm in the waythat he's loud.

(44:31):
About the way he feels for herbecause he knows that she's
scared

Jordan (44:35):
He's firm.

Devonnie (44:37):
He's very firm and he assures her like he sees her,
you know what i'm saying?
And that allows him to be Like Idon't want to use the word
perfect partner, but he canbreak down her walls because
he's literally just beingpresent.
He's being consistent and that'swhat she really needs.

Jordan (44:54):
The dream

Devonnie (44:56):
right.
He, I mean, and look at the, what?
Never heard of her.
The cover itself gives down bad.
That's why I brought the coverbecause if this isn't down bad,
tell me if you guys have achance, go look up the cover for
Swift and Saddle.
Honestly, the cover art isamazing for all of the books and
I can't wait for Teddy and Gus.

Jordan (45:14):
good.
Oh, I

Devonnie (45:17):
I am so curious to see if he is going to be more down

Jordan (45:21):
Hello, Miss Sage.
Yes, we would like to talk toyou.

Devonnie (45:27):
Because we're, it's only a couple more days until we
get to read them, I have so manybooks to read, but yeah, I
can't, I have, it's gonna be sogood.
I've requested it on, it's beenpending on NetGalley for months
More than seven months, I'msure.
The minute she announced thisbook, I requested it on
NetGalley and it's just sittingthere pending.
And I'm like, if y'all don't gothrough and just accept a bunch

(45:50):
of these requests at least threedays before the I cannot wait to
read them.
I am so excited to

Jordan (45:58):
it's on Libby, available to hold, and it has

Devonnie (46:01):
I've already done that.
Yep,

Jordan (46:03):
I did Dev weeks ago, and do you know what?
It will be available months fromnow, it says.

Devonnie (46:09):
Yeah, months,

Jordan (46:10):
I'm hundreds down the line

Devonnie (46:12):
Yep,

Jordan (46:13):
I feel like I was notified.

Devonnie (46:15):
I think I'm like 60th in line or something, but yeah,
that's still too long.
Because you can keep them for solong.
I cannot wait for Gus and Teddy.
Something tells me that Gus isgonna be like, grumpy oh, I hate
her.
But be so down bad, you can'teven believe it.
If you are interested in areally sweet, fun series, Yes, I
have.

(46:35):
Yes, I have.
I cannot wait.
I cannot wait.
So yeah, the Ryder brothers arethey're down bad.
They are down bad.
So yeah,

Jordan (46:48):
Thank you.

Devonnie (46:49):
Western.
We're mixing it up.
We've got Fae.
We've got gods.
Who did I start with?
We've got priests.

Jordan (46:56):
And now we're going to have, yeah.
And now we're going to have someOmega verse.
Are you ready?

Devonnie (47:02):
Love that.

Jordan (47:04):
Because who isn't more down bad than some alphas for
their omega?
A group of alphas.
Yes, here we go.
Priceless by Devon Sinclair.
Just gonna read the descriptionAnd then I'll talk about them,
about these alphas, okay?
I just figured this one is best.
Described by the lovely Devonherself, which I went to her

(47:26):
panels.
I met her at her booth at books, gowns and crowns, and she's so
amazing.
I got a special edition of oneof her books too.
Priceless by Devon Sinclair, three billionaire alphas,

Devonnie (47:40):
Ooh,

Jordan (47:41):
marriage of convenience.
What could possibly go wrong?
Being an omega is incredible.
Being a fat omega, no one wants.
Not so much.
But, I don't need to be wanted.
I only need to survive.
There's five years left until Iget my trust fund.
And I can put my toxic, abusive, fat phobic family in the

(48:02):
rearview mirror.
That's my plan and I'm stickingto it.
Until three alphas offer myfamily a deal.
Three alphas who areridiculously rich, scorchingly
hot, and claim they need me forone year.
The deal?
Marry them for one year to helpsave their company, and I walk
away with my trust and myfreedom.

(48:24):
Simple, easy.
I don't even blink before I signon the dotted line.
I thought it was just a marriageof convenience and nothing more.
I didn't count on my husband'scaring about me, protecting me,
craving me, seducing me, makingme feel things I never have
before.
Okay.
Let me just tell you.
It's a marriage of a conveniencebecause these three

(48:45):
billionaires, they always knewthat they were a pack, right?
And they just hadn't found theiryet.
They started a business and it'sreally lucrative.
Obviously they're billionaires.
The board is trying to out them.
There's some funny businesshappening in their business And
they said that they need toclean up their image and get
married Because scent matchesare not guaranteed in this world

(49:06):
Like obviously everyone has ascent match, but you can't
always wait around because youmight not find them so they
weren't planning to fall in lineand get married But then they go
to one of their Businesspartners, like they use this
company, right?
And they go to this function.
They don't want to go to.
While they're there from acrossthe ballroom, they are up on a
balcony looking over theballroom, right?

(49:27):
And they zero in, they haven'teven sent it to her.
They see.
This girl in the corner andthey're like, holy shit.
Who is that?
We have not seen her at any ofthese things before.
Who is that?
She is our type.
We want her, right?
So they saw her and wanted her.
Then when one of them went tosave her from some skeezy guy

(49:50):
like business partner of heruncle's trying to insert himself
there.
Then they were hit with a scent, and it's a scent match, but they
didn't say anything because itwas like, they didn't actually
know each other so they didn'twant to scare her right off the
bat and be like you're ours, I'mgonna take you.
Because omegas, in this world, omegas can't smell their scent
match unless they're In heat.
While she loves her sense, she'salso okay, she's super self

(50:13):
conscious.
She's been overweight her wholelife.
She is, she likes the way shelooks.
She's happy with herself, buther parents died when she was
younger and she.
Was in the care of her aunt anduncle and they have shamed her.
They have, they just do thesame.
They put locks in the kitchen, and mind you, she is a mid to

(50:33):
late 20 year old woman.
But they are in her parentshouse, and because of the way
their will was writtenapparently, she can't get the
will.
They are, they have her will andestate and money until a certain
time.
So anyways, she has to playalong with this, right?
It's horrible and the conditionsthat she's lived in so there's a
lot of triggering things in thisbook so please check the trigger

(50:54):
warnings before you read and shejust wants to be in a like away
from that so they see her andlike how could we get this?
How could we get her closer toher?
Right?
They're like, oh, well, theboard really wanted us to get
married.
Let's surprise them and let'sjust get married.
Let's offer her uncle, who theyhave some questions, like

(51:15):
there's questioning stuff.
Her uncle takes the bait and isyou can marry my niece.
That's fine.
You can marry my niece for ayear, for exchange for whatever,
because he tells her, then hetells Ocean, the female main
character I want you to spy onthem.
I want you to get anyinformation, right?
She's just fuck that.
I'm not gonna get youinformation, but I am gonna get
the hell out of this house.
So she's sweet.

(51:35):
These men I think are super hotand they smell good.
So let's go.
So she signs her little lifeaway, but they take her and
first of all, their business, they own a bunch of clothing
companies that are all inclusivesize, and they are high end
designer.
They own a lingerie company, like that's part of their stuff.

(51:59):
And one of them designs a wholelingerie.
Line for her called Ocean and hedesigns it for her and produces

Devonnie (52:09):
down

Jordan (52:09):
She's oh, I don't, I won't fit in here.
He's like, all of our stores areinclusive, size inclusive, you
go get whatever you want.
And if it's not there, we'llmake it for you.
We will have someone make it.
We will do what you want.
And she's just you know, she'strying to just stay quiet in the
corner and they keep shoving herforward.
In a very supportive way.
Not uncomfortable, do you knowwhat I mean?
It's very much this is ourOmega.

(52:30):
If anyone has anything to sayabout it, you can get fucked.
And we will destroy you.
They destroy careers.
Oh, they also have a sex toyline?
Do they try all the prototypeswith her and get her

Devonnie (52:46):
they do.
I love that.

Jordan (52:48):
yes, they do.
This doesn't work for you.
This is too uncomfortable.
Let's go back to the design.
Let's go back to the drawingboard.
Let's redo this.

Devonnie (52:55):
Love that

Jordan (52:56):
She also, so one of the moments for me, that was so
sweet.
She's they're like, what do youwant comfort?
What would you really like?
She's well, I just would asweatshirt, but I know yours
won't fit me.
He's done.
He reorders a bigger size.
And he wears them each for a dayand then he gives them all to
her And the same sweatshirts hehad just to make sure that she

(53:16):
could feel What it feels like tobe able to wear her man's
clothes like and it's and theynever shame her But they never
push her too far, but they dotry to push her out of her
comfort zone to be confident andthe way they are so Attune to
her and I know it's because alot of it has to do with it
being in omega verse But justthe support they show her Yeah,

(53:42):
but the support they show herand the way they support her in
being who she is so great and Ilike it too because It's an
overweight female main characterwho likes the way she is, the
only thing she's fighting is tonot be bullied.
Do you know what I mean bypeople that should have
supported her?
Everyone in her life supportsher or the people that she chose

(54:04):
to have in her life.
It's just this aunt and uncle, right?
It's not She's constantlyputting herself down.
She's aware of her weight morethan she needs to be, but it's
not like a shameful thing toher.

Devonnie (54:18):
Not

Jordan (54:19):
Does that make sense?
Right?
It's not self deprecating.
She's not trying to lose weight.
She's not doing this.
She's not doing that.
And that's what I really likedabout it because sometimes if it
really focuses on the selfdeprecation, That's where I have
a hard time reading some books, but this didn't do that.
And so I appreciated it.
And like down to the sexpositions that they did.

(54:39):
Like they were thoughtful of hercomfort and what she wanted and
needed.
And it was,

Devonnie (54:44):
love that.

Jordan (54:46):
yeah, it was so cool.
Yeah.
She's no, I, that's notcomfortable for me.
They're like, that's perfect.
Great.
We don't need that.
We, I can have you other ways.
And they're also just shut the f

Devonnie (54:58):
for your feedback.

Jordan (54:59):
they're also just shut up.
I'm gonna carry you.
I don't care.
I can do it.
They're like, I work out for areason.
I will carry you.

Devonnie (55:07):
What do you think these muscles are for

Jordan (55:09):
Yeah, they're not just for show.
So just, it's a really sweetdown bad, and it's very
thoughtful in everything they dofor her behind the scenes that
she doesn't know and the stuffthat she finds out.

Devonnie (55:23):
That

Jordan (55:23):
Priceless by Devon Sinclair.
And Devon is awesome.
I love her.
Her omega books.
So I

Devonnie (55:29):
Yeah, does she only write omega?
Omegaverse?

Jordan (55:32):
mean she only writes why choose now I guess she did ghost
writing for a long time beforeshe did her own stuff..
I've only read her omegaverse.
No, not only omegaverse

Devonnie (55:42):
love that.

Jordan (55:43):
Spicy.

Devonnie (55:44):
Here's the thing.
I have two books left that Iwant to talk about.

Jordan (55:47):
We're getting up there.

Devonnie (55:48):
yeah, I just, I'm going to pick one.

Jordan (55:52):
We can mention some too.
Yeah.

Devonnie (55:54):
yeah, well, I'll just briefly actually mentioned both
of them.
I'm not going to go to in depthbecause I feel like I've, yeah,
I've given a lot.
So the first book I'm going tomention is Six Scorched Roses by
Carissa Broadbent.
It is a part of the Crowns ofNiaxia world.
It's a novella in between the.
Serpent and the wings of nicenight, sorry.

(56:14):
And then the star ashes of thestarkers cake, something like
that.
Y'all know the book titlesalong, they're getting longer
and longer, but this novellasits in between those two books,
I chose to add him.
It's Veil, it's a vampireromance.
So veil is a vampire and thenit's Lilith.
Lilith is our little human babyWho's been cursed by the gods.
The girl was born.

(56:36):
Yeah, me too.
It just feels like evilincarnate or something I don't
know.
Lilith was born to die.
Yeah, and she is so sweet.
She is so sweet She's Born todie.
She was born to die.
So from the day she was born, she's pretty much known that she
was going to die.
And her little, we're going tocall it state, her hometown or
whatever, has like a curse fromone of the gods in their

(57:00):
pantheon where there's just thisillness that is killing
everyone.
And Lilith knows she's going todie, but she's somewhat of an
alchemist, if you will.
She's trying to save the peoplethat she loves from her sister,
who was like, Literally dying infront of her eyes to just her
town.
She doesn't want them to have tolive with this plague and this
illness.
And she's, I I can't remember.

(57:20):
She's like dying slower thaneveryone else, I think is the
vibe.
And so what she decides to do ispretty much make a bargain with
the vampire who lives on theoutskirts of town.
Who is veil and she basicallysays that for a vial of your
blood, I will give you six rosesor six roses for six vials of

(57:41):
your blood, something like that.
And so she brings them theserosies, these.
To feel, I mean, like for her, they're everything to veil.
They're like this, thesenondescript roses.
Like why are you why would youbargain with roses?
But he takes her up on it.
He's intrigued.
He's interested.
You know, this man becomes sodown bad for her because she is

(58:04):
like a myth.
Like what is wrong with you?
You want six vials of myprecious blood just so you can
give me roses.
Are you mad?
Are you well, darling?
But whatever, he humors her.
And then he gets to know her,and he just obviously falls in
love with her, can't get enough.
She's dying, which is so sad.

(58:25):
So he has to come up with a planto save her, of course.
Even though she tells him toscram, kick rocks, go live your
life, babe.
He can't.
And I'm not going to give toomuch away about that.
I'm not going to give too muchaway about that, but he's just
obsessed with her.
And it's so thin, it is so good.
You don't honestly, I think youcould read this first.

(58:46):
And then read the other, likethe actual beginning of the
series because it's so short,it's worth it.
You get a little background thatway when Vale comes up in book
two or the end of book one, Ithink he actually makes an
appearance in book one, but youget more of him in book two and
Lilith, you understand how theygot to where they are because

(59:06):
when they show up, there arequestions it's not all sweet and
peachy when they show up in thecrown of my books, it's kind of
like side.
I like.
You monster.
Vibes, but in this, you're like,oh no, you are not a monster.
You are just so down bad foryour

Jordan (59:20):
Oh!

Devonnie (59:21):
Oh!

Jordan (59:22):
Oh!

Devonnie (59:24):
That's the vibe.
So I think it's so necessary toread.
It is like so cute, cuz when Iread them, I was like, wait a
minute! Veil.
And then I read the six quartzroses and I was like, fail.
Oh no.

Jordan (59:38):
Oh no! Don't!

Devonnie (59:40):
So good.
And I don't know there's justsomething about me and a vampire
romance that will just alwaysconnect.
I love me a vampire.
If there is like a paranormalbeing that I could only have one
and I love me some phase.
I love the fairies.
Okay.
But if there is one being that Ihad to pick, I would for sure
pick a vampire.
I there would be no question.

(01:00:01):
You would not even have to askme twice.
So check that book out.
If you've read the Crowns ofNiaxia series already, make sure
you add that to your TBR.
I think you'd really enjoy it.
The second book I'm gonna verybriefly mention is actually
contemporary, but

Jordan (01:00:14):
be our longest episode ever.
Look at us.

Devonnie (01:00:17):
I'm sorry, I know, it's real quick.
It's the co op by Tara DeWitt, and I'm not even gonna tell you
the plot of it, I'm just gonnatell you the tropes.
Marriage of convenience, forcedproximity, second chance
romance, summer fling Yeah, those are the main ones.
He begs in this book.
So that's, there's that Deaconand Lauren from the co op by

(01:00:40):
Tara Dewitt.
It's that this book is, hasalready been out, but I think
Tara got traditionally publishedwith it.
So it's actually coming outagain in November.
And she's actually rewritten it,which I, it's actually one of my
arcs from NetGalley.
I need to reread the newerversion because I think she's
actually changed somesignificant things in there.

Jordan (01:01:00):
I get so nervous when they do that because I fall in
love with the version and I'mlike, don't touch my baby.
Don't touch it.

Devonnie (01:01:06):
right, so far though, cause I did start the arc, I
like the subtle changes thatwere made, I just need to finish
it to see if like I don't know.
There's more, but yeah it'll beout in November and shameless
plug.
If you want to know what bookreleases we are super excited
for November, follow theInstagram.
Cause we're going to have a postfor our monthly faves coming up

Jordan (01:01:27):
Or threads.

Devonnie (01:01:29):
or threads.

Jordan (01:01:30):
there too.

Devonnie (01:01:31):
Mhm.
Mhm.

Jordan (01:01:32):
Well, I was just gonna mention like from my quote
obviously the gods and monstersseries by amber vina cole down
bad, but it's MMC and FMC areboth way too down bad.
They both honestly need to cooltheir jets, but they won't and
they'll just fire up even more.
Excited to see where that onegoes.
Also, I did want to make surethat we mention, again, we've

(01:01:53):
done this before, I think it'sbeen a few episodes though The
Kindred's Curse Saga by PennCole.

Devonnie (01:01:59):
Yes.
So

Jordan (01:02:01):
so down bad.
So down

Devonnie (01:02:03):
down

Jordan (01:02:04):
The best quotes also from Luthor has those one
liners, that, those monologueswhere he's just, he's gonna fuck
you with his words.

Devonnie (01:02:14):
Yes.
It is.

Jordan (01:02:15):
he's gonna get down into your soul.
And also, we love Penn, andstick around because just say
we're gonna be wrapping up theyear in the next like four
episodes and then, but when wecome back for 2025, you are not
ready.
You are not ready for what wehave in store next year.

(01:02:38):
And I'll,

Devonnie (01:02:40):
That's it.
That's it.

Jordan (01:02:41):
I don't know who the fuck we think we are.
I don't know who the fuck wethink we are.
But we

Devonnie (01:02:48):
Stay tuned.
You do not want to miss things.
Okay

Jordan (01:02:51):
yeah, no.

Devonnie (01:02:52):
