I'm Patti Hunt and you'relistening to the RV Life Podcast
From chocolate to historyAmerica's largest RV show in

(00:21):
Hershey, pennsylvania, and greatadventures in between.
Now, I was born and raised inPhiladelphia, so this area is my
backyard.
Seven years ago, I moved to LasVegas when COVID hit and that's
what started the full-time RVlife for me.
For those of you who have notlistened to the podcast before,

(00:42):
I went full-time RVing fouryears ago now when my husband,
during COVID, said let's selleverything and buy an RV and
travel the country full-time.
What an amazing experience ithas been.
Over the last year, I have beensolo, as my husband is in a
nursing home.
He did get ill and I'm goingsolo now.

(01:07):
I'm still traveling.
I want to provide adventuresand things for you, my RV
listeners, to do across thisamazing country.
Today's episode is a solo.
I am going to talk, like I said, all things America's Largest
RV Show.

(01:27):
It's often called the HersheyRV Show.
It is in Hershey, pa, so we aregoing to talk about the show
and how to navigate it.
We're going to talk about whatthere is to do when you come
into the area.
So everything from Hershey, pa,to the Philadelphia area, and
I'm also going to talk about theRV Life Pro Suite of products,

(01:49):
which includes RV Trip Wizardand some features some new
features they have.
The RV Life podcast was createdto entertain, educate and
explore the RV lifestyle and itis my mission to inspire you to
live life to the fullest.
For those of you looking forsome incredible campgrounds,

(02:10):
open Road Resorts now has sevenparks campgrounds in Idaho,
Nebraska, new Mexico, texas, wyoming and New Orleans.
They have highly favored parks.
All of these parks are highlyfavored by you, the RVer, on the
RV Life Campgrounds site, andyou go to campgroundsrvlifecom

(02:35):
to see what RVers have to sayabout these parks that have made
them highly favored.
Okay, let's talk about it.
You are planning your trip toHershey, pa, for America's
largest RV show and that show isin September.
This year it's always inSeptember.

(02:55):
This year is September 9th tothe 15th.
When you are at the park youare going to see there is the
Hershey Chocolate Factory Tourand the Hershey Park.
I wanted to get on today to talkabout the things that you can
do in the area, like I said, navigating the show.
We'll talk about that, as wellas the new features that you

(03:18):
will find on the RV Life Pro appthat'll help you to get to
these places that I'm talkingabout Today.
I'm going to mention someplaces, these places that I have
been to and have experienced, and other places that I thought
I'd let you know about.
I'm not going to dive in deepto each place, but what I am

(03:39):
going to do is try to put a linkto all of the places that I've
mentioned.
I'll put a link in the shownotes so if you hear something,
you could just go to the shownotes to find out all about what
is in that area or thatspecific place.
So let's dive in.
First of all, if you are inHershey, like I said, there is

(04:03):
Hershey Park, which is a greatplace for the kids and adults.
It is an amusement park.
They have rides, they have food, they have attractions all
kinds of things in this park.
Hershey Park is a very largeadventure park, I would call it.
They also have the ChocolateFactory Tour.
I did this many, many years agoand it was a really cool tour

(04:28):
and I remember at the end of itI got a Hershey kiss.
I think they still give you achocolate treat at the end.
Like I said, it's been manyyears since I've been there.
I am all about chocolate, so Iam partial to this type of
factory tour.
Now in the area is alsoHarrisburg, and they have many

(04:51):
parks and restaurants.
It's on the Susquehanna River.
There is history in Harrisburg.
There's a lot to do in theHarrisburg area.
Okay, I am now going to move onto just.
It's probably about 30 minutesor less from Hershey, but you
have the Lancaster PA area andthis is also called Pennsylvania

(05:15):
Dutch area, so it's referred toas a Pennsylvania Dutch country
area.
In that area, some things I'dlove to do is the Amish village
tour.
That's the specific one I wentto and that's in Bronx, pa,
which again is in this area.
They take you through a wholetour.

(05:36):
They talk about the Amish andwhat they do in their everyday
life, their belief system, howthey raise their kids.
It is a full tour through ahome that was one of the homes
of the Amish and they show youexactly what they have and what
it's like.
It was really interesting.

(05:58):
Obviously, people areinterested in the Amish way of
life.
That's why there was a TV showthat was very popular and I
highly recommend the Amish wayof life.
That's why there was a TV showthat was very popular and I
highly recommend the AmishVillage Tour Again in the area.
There are a lot of differentAmish tours to go to.
There's a lot to choose from.
Just being in the area anddriving down the streets you'll

(06:19):
see the Amish on horse andbuggies and it's just really
cool to check out.
In that area is the largestbuffet.
It's called Maple ShadeSmorgasbord in East Earl, pa.
It's a hard word to say but youget what I'm getting at.
It is incredible.

(06:39):
I have been there several times.
Make sure when you go you arereally hungry, because there is
pretty much every food you canimagine in this place.
You want to go online and checkout, if you need reservations,
what the costs are or will allbe on the website and I'll put

(07:02):
that in the show notes.
The other thing I did and I didthis just a couple years ago
and it's in the area when I sayin the area, for us RVers
traveling 30 minutes, 45 minutes, it's usually not that big a
deal.
The Turkey Hill experience isalso not far from this area.
It's in Columbia, pa, and theTurkey Hill experience anybody

(07:24):
not from the East Coast.
Turkey Hill ice cream isprobably my favorite ice cream
and I love this ice creambecause they have one that is
all natural, so it doesn't haveall the additives and stuff in
it.
I really love their vanillabean but, again, anybody who
knows me of course I like theirchocolate ice cream and the tour

(07:47):
is incredible.
It takes you through how icecream is made.
It has activities within.
I think it was two stories.
It's a two-story building.
There's lots of activities forpeople to do while they're in
this experience.
One of the things I added on tothe experience was creating my

(08:08):
own ice cream flavor.
So they take you into whatlooks like a science lab and
they give you a pint of vanillaor chocolate ice cream.
They talk about ice cream, howit's made, how they create new
flavors, and then they let youadd stuff to your ice cream like
nuts or flavoring or gummybears, things like that.

(08:31):
Really cool.
Now that I'm talking about it,definitely need some ice cream
today.
Turkey Hill, like I said, Ithink, is ice cream more on the
East Coast, I think, actually Ithink you can get it in other
areas, but again, that's myfavorite.
The experience was incredible.
So if you're in Hershey goingto the Lancaster area, you're

(08:55):
heading east.
As you're heading east, thereare places like Longwood Gardens
.
That's L-O-N-G-W-O-O-D LongwoodGardens, which is just that.
It is an incredible experience.
A lot of it is outside.
You also go inside to agreenhouse where you walk

(09:17):
through these incredible setupsof plants and flowers and they
have education pieces around it.
You could tour the wholeoutside Like.
This is a full day experiencethe kids could go into.
There are five tree houses thatwere built and you can walk
through them and I'm not talkinglike kids tree houses.

(09:38):
These are huge tree houses thatyou can walk through.
Something else that you cancheck out while you're in the
area is Valley Forge HistoricalPark and, as some people have
listened to me know, I havenever been to any of the
national parks, even though whenI started out this whole idea

(10:00):
of RVing, the whole idea was togo to every national park in the
country that there are 63 ofthem and I have not been to any.
Valley Forge Historical Park isa great place to go.
It's a great place to let thekids literally just run.
There's also a lot about thehistory in the area.
There is a home there.

(10:22):
That was where Washingtonstayed.
I'm not a history buff so I'mnot going to.
I don't want to giveinformation that's not accurate.
At the time, learning aboutValley Forge Historical Park in
the area was very cool and veryinteresting.
This is a place you could gofor a half hour, let the kids
run around or spend a couple ofhours there, so I'm going to put

(10:46):
the link for that in the shownotes and you could get an idea
of all that has to offer If youare at the Valley Forge
Historical Park.
Valley Forge is minutes to Kingof Prussia.
In King of Prussia is the Kingof Prussia Mall, which is one of
the largest malls in thecountry.
I think it's now second orthird.

(11:07):
I believe it used to be thelargest mall in the country and
they have everything you couldpossibly want.
There are two sides to the mall.
One is your higher end, reallyexpensive brands, and one is
your lower end, less expensivebrands.
There's food throughout themall.

(11:27):
There's areas around it thatyou could grab food and if you
need a Costco stop.
There's a Costco right nearKing of Prussia.
I know it's an RVer.
I'd loved when I could find myCostco so I can fill up on food.
Okay, so if you want to headnorth from here, you could go to

(11:48):
the Poconos area.
These are the Pocono Mountains.
There is various things to doin this area Obviously, during
the winter, skiing and thingslike that.
During the summer, they havehikes and trails, they have
waterfalls and just so much todo.
It's a very large areawaterfalls and just so much to

(12:10):
do.
It's a very large area.
One of the things I want tohighlight is a place called
Bushkill Falls.
Bushkill Falls is just that.
It's an amazing area with lotsof falls.
It's actually referred to asthe Niagara Falls of
Pennsylvania.
I've gone there with the kidsand hiked around.
You could do as much hiking oras little hiking as you're able

(12:31):
to.
There are waterfalls there.
Again, it's just an incrediblybeautiful area.
I love going there.
I haven't been there in a while.
I'm going to put that on mylist to do.
It's great to do it in thesummer because, as it's hot, it
is cooler in the Poconos.
I actually once went throughBushkill Falls.

(12:53):
My daughter was a baby and shewas in one of those sacks and I
was still able to do someclimbing and walking through
Bushkill Falls.
It's good for little kids andthen, if you're more advanced,
they have areas for those peoplethat are more advanced.
Hikers Highly recommend that.

(13:14):
And again, the whole Poconomountain areas lots of places to
dine, lots of cool places to goand visit.
Now we've gone up to thePoconos If you come back down
and again, I'm not doing this ina specifically logical area

(13:35):
because there's so much to dobut one of the other things that
I really love is Peddler'sVillage.
Peddler's Village is north ofPhiladelphia and it is not far
from Hershey I want to say it'sabout 45 minutes, but it is a
whole day that you could spendin Peddler's Village.

(13:56):
Again, there are things to doand see, places to eat for
everyone.
If you have kids with you, there's a place called
Giggleberry Mountain.
My grandkids love it there.
You could spend an entire daythere.
And then Peddler's Village isjust that it's a little village
and you walk around their shops, their restaurants.

(14:19):
During the summer Actually allyear long they have special
events that they hold there andyou could check them out by
going to their website andseeing what they're doing.
But there's always it's justalways a nice place to walk
around, get something to eat, like I said, keep the kids

(14:43):
active.
Going to Giggleberry Mountainit's called, and that is a play
place that is I can't evendescribe it.
Go online and see it.
It's like adults could walkthrough this place and it's for
kids pretty much of all ages.
There's climbing, there'sslides.
It is deep.
Think of the McDonald's playplaces like, but 100 times
bigger.
It is incredible.

(15:05):
And then they have games inthere and they have activities
actually for really little kidsin there as well.
If you're in the Peddler'sVillage area, new Hope is not
far from there and this is areally cool town that you could
walk through.
It's different.
I don't know that there's asmuch there for little kids.

(15:27):
They have cool restaurants,cool activities.
It's got a very different vibeand let's see what else is there
.
You could quickly from New Hopego over to La Haska, new Jersey
.
You could actually walk over ona bridge, so there's a walking
bridge.
You walk over or drive over and, again, this is a cute little

(15:50):
area to go check out shops andwalk around restaurants and
there are things to do, eventsthat they hold during the year,
so great place to check outthere.
Also, if you're in New Hope andyou want to experience hot air
balloons.
So I was in at the AlbuquerqueBalloon Fiesta and met a

(16:16):
gentleman I don't know the nameof the company off the top of my
head.
I will look it up and put thatin the show notes.
This is a gentleman I havegotten to know over the last
three years.
This is a gentleman I've gottento know over the last three
years and he has a company thatwill take you on a hot air
balloon ride.
If you choose to check that out, if you don't get the
opportunity to go to theAlbuquerque Balloon Fiesta, or

(16:40):
if you want to see if you'reprepared, just go on a hot air
balloon.
It's an amazing experience thatI highly recommend.
So I will put his informationin the show notes and that is
something he launches from thatarea there in New Hope.
Well, I've taken you throughsome areas that I hope you'll

(17:01):
find value in, but let's talkabout Philadelphia.
Before we get to all that, Iwant to talk about those people
who are either looking for theirnew RV, their next RV, or
service.
Blue Compass RV is the placethat we at RV Life recommend,
because they have over 100locations coast to coast, more

(17:21):
than 15,000 new and used RVs andover a thousand service bays
and, as we all know, thoseservice bays are only good if
there are technicians, and theydo have more certified RV
technicians than any otherdealer.
Blue Compass RV is the place togo, and you can visit

(17:42):
bluecompassrvcom today.
Again, philadelphia is where Iwas born and raised.
There is so much to do.
Obviously, it's a hugehistorical area with so much to
do, and you could see thingslike the Liberty Bell,
independence Hall, the BetsyRoss House I just heard a piece

(18:04):
on the Betsy Ross House becausethey just redid it.
They have tours that you can goon or you could take yourself
on a tour.
They're self-led tours.
There are many ways toexperience Philadelphia.
If you're in Hershey, philadelphia is about an hour
and a half away it's a straightshot, an easy shot, to get there

(18:27):
.
Right in the Philadelphia area, there's not really places to
park an RV, so if you'rethinking about going in an RV,
you have to plan that out alittle bit.
I recommend using the RV LifeCampgrounds app.
So going tocampgroundsrvlifecom will help
you to find a campground in thePhiladelphia area so you can

(18:50):
park.
Like I said, though, if you'recoming from Hershey and you want
to take a day trip, it is easyto get to Philadelphia from
Hershey, pa.
Other things that you could doif you go to the Philadelphia
Art Museum.
The famous Rocky statue isthere.
Yes, people run up the artmuseum steps.
See if you can run up all ofthe steps without being out of

(19:13):
breath.
I cannot at this point do that.
I'd have to work up to beingable to try to do that again.
There's so much to do in thearea.
If you're at the PhiladelphiaArt Museum, you can tour the Art
Museum.
There is the Police TouchMuseum.
Not far from there there's theFranklin Institute.

(19:34):
There is the Science Museum, academy of Natural Sciences
Museum.
As I'm talking about an areahonestly, guys, I didn't write
all of this down but as I'mtalking about an area, I'm
thinking of all the other thingsthat are in the area.
Now I will say Philadelphiaobviously, is known for its

(19:54):
steak sandwiches.
Yes, when you go to these otherareas and they say original
Philadelphia steak sandwiches,I've been all over the country
and have rarely been able tofind a steak sandwich like what
you find in Philadelphia.
So if you're looking for thefoods of Philadelphia steak
sandwiches hoagies, not subs, they are called hoagies, soft

(20:17):
pretzels, and make sure it's areal Philadelphia soft pretzel.
Italian ice is also a big thing, but if you are looking for a
steak sandwich, my favoriteskill to this day is Pat's Steak
and that is near where you'regoing to be if you're touring
the historic areas.
It's about 15 minutes 20minutes depending on traffic,

(20:40):
but Pat's Steak is the place toget a Philadelphia cheesesteak.
There are lots of other places, check them out.
Love to hear from you If youtry a steak sandwich and you
find one like.
If you compare Pat Steaks toanother steak sandwich, let me
know what you like or don't likeOn that note of Pat Steaks.
So I like my steak sandwichwith onions and Pat Steaks is

(21:05):
famous for putting Cheez Whiz ontheir steak sandwich with
onions and Pat Steaks is famousfor putting cheese whiz on their
steak sandwich.
Now, I don't eat cheese whizany other time, but on your Pat
Steaks you need to try thecheese whiz if you like cheese.
If you could eat cheese, thecheese whiz on your steak
sandwich.
Trust me on this one and pleaseon the show notes on social

(21:26):
media.
If you've ever had a pet steakor there's a steak place you
like better, please let us know.
Go to RV, like Podcasts, onInstagram or Facebook and let us
know where you've had the beststeak sandwiches.
Whether you're looking to try asteak sandwich, I want to hear
from you.
So okay, you're in Philadelphia.

(21:47):
There is still tons to do thatI haven't even mentioned.
If you're in the Philadelphiaarea and you want to travel from
Philadelphia, the New JerseyShore Now, when I say the New
Jersey Shore, we used to say westill do we're going down the
shore.
That was the terminology whichI've realized once I left the
Philadelphia area.

(22:07):
People did not understand.
But the New Jersey shore hasmany, many shore towns and from
Philadelphia it's anywhere from60 to 100 miles, depending on
which shore town you're going to.
So there's Atlantic City, downto Cape May, new Jersey, and

(22:28):
there's just different.
There's Wildwood and alldifferent Seattle city.
The shore town that you go toreally depends on, if you have
kids, what you're looking to do,but a lot of them, no matter
where you are, you could go, youknow, easily get into another
one of the towns.
So if you're looking to headfrom Hershey to Philadelphia and

(22:52):
then go from there to NewJersey, there's lots to do.
Philadelphia to New York City.
So if you're in this area again, you could get to New York City
.
It is 94 miles away.
I do not recommend driving anRV into the city at all.
I don't even know that you'd beable to.
But if you want to go into NewYork City when you're in

(23:13):
Philadelphia, you could take atrain and be there in about an
hour and a half.
That's an easy train ride toNew York City.
Okay, we've covered a lot and Ihave been nonstop on that.
I really hope this is helpingyou guys and again, my
Philadelphia is coming out, because that's you guys in

(23:33):
Philadelphia.
I have some more things I wantto cover.
I want to talk about the HersheyShow, but let's talk about some
things that are coming up.
Like I said, the Hershey Showis actually the 10th to the 14th
RV Life Hershey After Party, september 11th.
So September 11th at 6 o'clock,from 6 to 10.

(23:54):
This is the fourth annual RVLife Hershey After Party.
It has been an amazing event.
It gets bigger and better everyyear.
Because of that, it quicklysells out.
So this party, once it is openfor you to buy tickets, you will
see it on RV Life Podcasts andInstagram and Facebook.

(24:16):
It'll be promoted in otherplaces, but if you go to RV Life
Podcasts on Instagram andFacebook and hit follow.
Then you will find out when youcan buy tickets to the Hershey,
the RV Life Hershey after party.
Like I said, that is September11th.
There is free wine, free beer, food giveaways.

(24:38):
It's just an incredible event.
This year we decided to dobackground music so you guys
could all talk to each other andmeet new people, and it's just
a fun, incredible event.
And I want to talk about RVersTop Talent and this is the first
ever nationwide talentcompetition.
If you have a talent and everytime I say that, people say I

(25:01):
don't have a talent, I don'tfeel like I do either, to be
honest.
But any talent you havestorytelling, juggling, yes,
singing, dancing any talent youhave make sure you click on the
show note and submit your talentbecause you have a chance to
win the grand prize, which is$5,000.

(25:21):
$5,000 grand prize.
So RVers top talent definitelywant to check that out.
Okay, while you're in Hershey, there's a lot going on.
When you are at the Hershey RVevents, planning is key.
Number one comfortable shoes.
It is huge there.
You are going to walk a lot.

(25:42):
I suggest you go to America'slargest RV show website.
If you type in Hershey RV show.
You still get there, but if yougo to the website, check out
all the vendors, what I'd liketo do is make a list of the
vendors I want to see before Iget there and plan my time.
So, deciding whether you'regoing to be there one day, two

(26:03):
days, five days, whatever it is,plan what you're going to go
see the RVs, the manufacturers, the dealers that are there you
want to plan that out too, again, because sometimes they are far
apart.
So planning is going to be key.
Comfortable shoes, a t-shirt,but bring a jacket.

(26:23):
So weather has been anythingfrom it's hot and I'm sweating
to it's chilly and I need ajacket.
So always having thatcombination.
They do have food and drinkthere that you could purchase.
You can bring in your own foodand drink.
They do not stop you Absolutelyno problem Buying your ticket

(26:44):
online before you get there, andthere are some discounts they
offer which will be on thewebsite.
The other thing to do whileyou're at the Hershey RV show is
to come visit the RV Life booth, which is always downstairs.
So this is a, I believe, ahockey arena if I'm not mistaken
.
So when you walk into thebuilding, you walk downstairs

(27:08):
into the bowl and once you walkdownstairs, if you go to the
left, we are always RV Lifebooth is always on the left side
, so go into the booth, say hito the people there.
Nobody is going to try and sellyou anything.
If you have questions about theRV Life Pro Suite of Products,
whether you're already a memberor you're looking to become a

(27:28):
member, you could talk to them.
If you do not have the RV LifePro Suite of Products and you're
planning your trip, let's talkabout that.
There is a 25% discount that Ihave in the show notes.
So one of the things that theRV Life Pro Suite of Products
does is it helps you with yourtrip planning, and that is Trip

(27:48):
Wizard.
Trip Wizard will help you planyour trip from wherever you are
to Hershey, pa, to Philadelphia, wherever you're going.
I love the RV Life Pro Suite ofProducts.
My husband and I started usingit four years ago, before we
ever started in our RV, just tocheck it out.
I love that I could do all mytrip planning.

(28:10):
I can circle in and find whatis in the area, as well as
campgrounds, and when I go tothat campground and look at
reviews, I know they areauthentic views.
I'm only giving you the tip ofthe iceberg as to what the RV
Life Pro Suite of productsprovides, because there is so
much.
Again, there's going to be alink in the show notes you could

(28:32):
check it out 25% discount ifyou are a new customer and you
get a seven-day free trial soyou could check it all out.
Rv Life did just make a lot ofupgrades, so when you go on to
the RV Life website or the app,you could see the upgrades that

(28:55):
they made.
Some of the upgrades includethe link to Hardest Host.
They have different ways tohelp you navigate.
A lot of upgrades and they arestill upgrading.
So when you go on, if you arean existing customer, it will
lead you to looking at the newplatform.

(29:16):
If you don't want to use thenew, updated platform, you could
stay with the original.
If, when you go on, you couldalso go to a YouTube video that
shows you how to navigate withease through the different steps
Again, all of this will be inthe show notes you could go to

(29:37):
the RV Life website to see allthe new upgrades and features.
There are so many of them Ihonestly can't remember them all
.
For those of you that are goingto be in the area.
Like I said, there are going tobe days that are hot.
A lot of the campgrounds, youhave full hookups, so running
your air conditioner isn't aproblem.
But if you're looking to makeyour air conditioner run more

(30:00):
effectively, cool RV has anupgrade.
Cool RV has an upgrade, an RVair conditioner upgrade which
creates cooler air, more airflowand keeps the sound of your air
conditioner down so you can sitand talk.
You could visit them atCoolRVcom Again.

(30:21):
I just wanted to touch on someof these topics, some of these
things that could help younavigate while you're in this
area.
Hershey RV Show is every year,so if you need to refer back, if
this year you are not going toattend the show or be in the
area, if you are going to attend, please, like I said, send us a

(30:44):
message on social media, put acomment in one of the posts, let
