and resilience you have inside.
Let us show you how, as yousail through life, come aboard.

(01:02):
In my last few episodesspecifically, we've talked about
transformation.
Strength, courage andresilience.
These are all powerfulqualities that can help us
navigate through life'schallenges, grow as individuals
and create positive change.
Last episode, we heard fromKara Batar about her
transformation from thiscourageous decision to leave her

(01:25):
job without a plan to finding anew life and conquer her fears.
We also heard from LindsayMiller, who talked about
resilience and fulfillment.
We addressed how to cultivatecuriosity, openness, acceptance
and love in the face of fear anduncertainty.
She shed light on howmindfulness helps us accept the

(01:48):
present moment and move forwardno matter what is going on in
our lives.
The power of attitude andcourage when facing challenges
has been an underlying theme towhat I've been dealing with, so
I wanted to go into positiveattitude and how it can play a
significant role in our journeywith cancer and a life after

(02:10):
diagnosis.
While it's not necessarily thefinal cure, it does help
guarantee a better outcome.
It contributes to an overallwell-being and quality of life.
One of the reasons why attitudematters is its effect on our
mental and emotional well-being.
Cancer can be challenging andemotionally draining experience.

(02:33):
Having an optimistic outlookcan help us better cope with the
physical and emotional stressthat comes with a cancer
diagnosis.
It provides a sense of hope, resilience and the motivation to
continue fighting.
Studies have shown that apositive mindset can lead to
lower levels of anxiety anddepression.

(02:53):
One of the main reasons whyattitude matters is the effect
on your mental and emotionalhealth.
This attitude can enhance theeffectiveness of medical
treatments.
Research suggests thatindividuals with more optimistic
outlook tend to adhere betterto the treatment plans, follow
through with recommendedlifestyle changes and engage in

(03:15):
proactive health behaviors.
This commitment to self-carecan positively impact treatment
outcomes and overall health.
Like Cara, we talk abouttransformation in our lives.
This is a big shock to oursystems, and transformation
refers to the process of aprofound change and growth.

(03:37):
It involves letting go of oldpatterns, beliefs and behaviors
that no longer serve us andembracing new ways of thinking
and being and relating to theworld.
It often requires aself-reflection or
self-awareness and a willingnessto step outside of our comfort

(03:58):
zones.
This transformation can unlockour potential and become the
best versions of ourselves.
Strength gives us the ability toface challenges head on,
persevere in the face ofadversity and overcome obstacles
.
Strength can be a mental, emotional or physical, and it
often is built through facingand overcoming our struggles.

(04:21):
It requires courage, determination and a positive
mindset.
Well, courage is thewillingness to take risks, face
fears and step into the unknown.
It's the ability to act despitefeeling fear or uncertainty.
Strength is essential forpersonal growth and
transformation, and it's oftenrequired to venture outside of

(04:45):
our comfort zones to embrace newopportunities.
It takes courage to pursue ourdreams, speak up for what we
believe in and make difficultchoices.
By embracing courage, we canexpand our horizons and create
meaningful changes in our livesand the world around us.
Lindsay talked about resilienceand mindfulness, and it's a

(05:08):
common theme throughout the show.
Incorporating these qualitiesinto our lives can bring about a
profound personal growth andtransformation.
Remember, it takes time andeffort and it is a journey
unique to each of us.
By cultivating strength, courage and resilience, we can
navigate challenges with greaterease, embrace opportunities for

(05:31):
growth and create positivechange in our lives and the
lives of other.
And it all goes back to ourmindset how and what we think
affects us mentally andphysically.
I found a quote by RachelleGoodrich that said changing your
attitude, your outlook, yourmindset, perspective,

(05:54):
disposition or mood they allmean controlling where you allow
your thoughts to linger.
I really like the fact thatit's coming back to us to decide
what we have in our minds.
What are we thinking about?
What are we acting on?
So I wanted to talk about whatthe difference is between a

(06:16):
positive mindset and a growthmindset.
A growth mindset is a beliefthat our intelligence and our
abilities can be developed andimproved through effort and
practice.
A positive mindset is a generaltendency to see the world in a
positive light and to expectgood things to happen.
Both growth and positivemindsets are beneficial for our

(06:40):
success.
People with a growth mindsetare more likely to set
challenging goals, persist inthe face of setbacks and achieve
their goals, while people witha positive mindset are more
likely to be happy, healthy andresilient.
A growth mindset fostersmotivation and a deep belief in
the ability to improve anddevelop our skills.

(07:02):
With this mindset, we are morelikely to set ambitious goals,
stay persistent even if we'refacing a difficult time, and
ultimately achieve those goals.
Having an open and flexiblemindset also allows us to
embrace new ideas, experiencesand perspectives.
It's opposite of what we wantto do.

(07:23):
We want to control what we'refeeling and experiencing, but we
need to relax and let go.
This openness allows us tolearn from others, adapt to
change and grow intellectuallyand emotionally.
It can have a positive impacton our physical health, too, and

(07:46):
allow us to have more stressmanagement.
There are many things that youcan do to develop a growth
mindset and a positive mindset.
I want to talk on these things, because these are things that
will get us through thesechallenges, and they're baby
steps.
We need to take baby steps toaccomplish them.
Start focusing on your progress, not necessarily how smart you

(08:11):
think you are or what you'reable to do just on a daily basis
.
Check in with yourself, believethat you can learn and improve.
Without that, what are we doing?
We have to have faith inourselves.
We have to have confidence inwhat we're doing.
We need to be willing to takerisks and try new things Again,

(08:36):
letting go of that control andstepping outside of our comfort
zone, celebrating our successes, whether it's day to day or
minute by minute.
We need to be able to sit downand look at what we've
accomplished.
Practice gratitude big one, that's a big impact in our lives
, taking that time to really begrateful for what's going on and

(09:00):
that can be hard.
That's a big challenge,especially when you don't feel
good.
Spend more time with positivepeople.
Obviously, we're going to bearound people that energize us,
that hold us up, that empower us, that give us those pep talks.
Do things that make you happy.
There are so many things thatwe do in a day that we

(09:20):
begrudgingly do, that areterrible, that make us mad, that
we're resentful for.
But what are we doing in a daythat makes us happy?
Is it reaching out to somebodyand having a conversation?
Is it connecting with someonefor lunch or coffee?
Is it spending time reading orjust being in a quiet place

(09:45):
Helping others also allows us tostep outside of our comfort
zone and see things from adifferent perspective and then
live in the present moment.
It's so easy to get caught up inthe what about tomorrow's and
what about next week's and nextmonths and next years, and
sometimes we can't be caught upin that.

(10:07):
Sometimes we just need to be inthe present moment.
So I want to talk about a fewways which mindset can influence
the quality of our life.
By creating a resilient mindset, it enables us to bounce back
from any setback and continue topersevere.

(10:28):
It empowers us to developcoping mechanisms and find
meaning even in difficultsituations.
This improves our overallwell-being.
It also allows us to recovermore quickly Instead of dwelling
on the negative, focus onfinding solutions and learning

(10:49):
from our experiences.
Can you think of a time whenyou thought, hey, that wasn't as
bad as I thought, or youbounced back so easily from a
situation?
Well, resilience is not aboutavoiding stress or life's
difficulties, but rather aboutdeveloping the skills and the

(11:10):
mindset to persevere and thrivein the face of what we're going
through.
It involves using internalresources such as optimism,
determination, ourproblem-solving skills and
sometimes seeking externalsupport when needed.
Resilience allows us to findmeaning in difficult situations

(11:32):
and learn from them so we canbetter handle future challenges.
Optimism is a way for us to seethe silver lining in a
challenging situation.
It helps you to be hopeful andbelieve that things will work
out for the better.
We find ourselves in situationsthat we're wondering what's

(11:55):
next?
What's going to happen?
Why don't we think about whatwonderful things are going to be
out there?
It's so easy to fall back intothose habits of the worst-case
scenario when we can play outthe best-case scenario.
A positive perspective helps usreduce our stress and it

(12:17):
improves our mental capacity.
I know, even when it'sdifficult, in the midst of a
health challenge, it helps todevelop a proactive approach to
life's ups and downs, enablingus to overcome our situations
more effectively.
I want to give you a few ways inwhich living with optimism can
have a great impact on your life.

(12:37):
Are you a glass half full or ahalf empty person?
Remember, we are here to liveour best lives and we need to do
that by taking stock in whatwe're doing and how we're living
.
So we need to improve ourmental well-being.
By being optimistic, we reducestress and anxiety levels.

(13:01):
We promote better mental healthwhen we're faced with
challenges.
This allows us to view thesesetbacks as temporary as opposed
to insurmountable obstacles.
It allows us to maintain asense of hope and confidence in
our ability to find solutionsand overcome any difficulties.

(13:23):
Again, it all comes back toresilience and strength and
focus.
When you believe things aretemporary, you can adapt quicker
, you can move forward, you cannavigate that situation.
Studies have shown that apositive mindset can have a
profound impact on physicalhealth.

(13:44):
Optimistic individuals tend tohave lower levels of stress,
better cardiovascular health anda stronger immune system.
By cultivating optimism, youcan reduce the harmful effects
of stress on your body, leadingto improved wellness.
If you're facing a situationwhere you're fighting a disease,

(14:05):
it's crucial to support yourimmune system and maximize the
ability to fight off illness.
Take a look at what you'redoing.
Are you eating well?
Are you staying hydrated?
Are you getting enough sleep?
How do you manage stress?
Do you exercise regularly?
Exercise is being shown as oneof those incredible ways to do

(14:30):
an overall overhaul of yoursystems.
It adjusts your mindset, itadjusts your physicality, it
helps you to fine-tune all of it.
It flushes out the toxins inyour system.
It creates a way to strengthenyour immune system.
Optimism fuels motivation and abelief in your ability to

(14:52):
improve.
So if you are optimistic aboutwhat you can do and you can grow
on that, you can start settingbigger goals and remain driven
even when things don't go theway you thought.
It also has an effect ongratitude when you have an
optimistic mindset, you're moreinclined to recognize and

(15:14):
appreciate the blessings and thepositive things in life.
Cultivating a sense ofgratitude can bring joy,
contentment and satisfaction.
So remember, when you live withoptimism, it's a choice that
you can make every day, sometimes moment by moment.
By focusing on the positiveparts of your life, maintaining

(15:37):
hope in the difficult times andbelieving that you can overcome
something, you can transformyour life for the better.
Speaking of gratitude, let'spractice gratitude.
It's a powerful way to bringpositivity to your life.
Have you ever tried just doingsomething in the morning to
document what you're gratefulfor?

(15:58):
Maybe think about.
Are you grateful for yourfamily and your friends who love
and support you?
Are you grateful for theability to live a life right now
, even if it's not what youwould hope?
Are you grateful foropportunities to grow and learn?
Are you grateful for even thesimplest things around you Be in

(16:20):
nature, you can startdocumenting things you're
grateful for in a number of ways.
What about a gratitude journalor a gratitude meditation where
you just sit down and just thinkabout these things and you
don't have to do anything.
Just start visualizing andrepeating in your head the

(16:41):
things that make you happy, thethings that you are grateful for
.
Maybe write a letter to someonewho you're grateful for and
tell them why, and in thatmoment then you can realize the
blessing that that is.
Walk in nature always bringsback that feeling of gratitude.
Pay attention to the beautyaround you, the colors, the

(17:04):
sounds, the sensations.
Take moments to expressgratitude for the wonders of
nature, the ability to move andthe opportunity to experience
the world around you.
One thing I saw that was prettyingenious was a gratitude jar.
Set up a gratitude jar or a boxin your home.

(17:25):
Make it something that youenjoy interacting with.
Put a little piece of paper andwrite something down and put it
in there, and over time youwill eventually accumulate a
whole box of gratitude, and thathas to do so much for your
mindset.
Having gratitude in difficulttimes is important because we

(17:46):
need to focus on the lessons wehave learned, the support we
have received or the momentsthat we have been strong or
resilient.
Shifting that perspective togratitude can bring that sense
of hope that we want and theresilience that we need.
It's a habit that does taketime and we need to be
consistent.

(18:06):
What do they say?
30 days to build a habit.
So give yourself 30 days to trysomething and see how it works.
When we are challenged, I thinksometimes we lose our belief in
ourselves or our confidence, andby having a positive mindset,
by incorporating some of thesedifferent things I've mentioned,

(18:29):
it enables us to start trustingin our abilities and believe
that we can pursue our goals andreach them.
Remember, mindset is not fixed.
It can be cultivated anddeveloped over time with an
intentional effort and practice.

(18:49):
That's the key.
We have to give it time.
We have to make it part of aroutine or a habit that we have.
We have a lot of habits that wedo, that we don't want, but
what can we do to shift it sothat we do have these habits
that create better lives for us?

(19:10):
We want to create an enhancedquality of life.
We want to be able to moveforward from the place we're at,
to motivate ourselves toembrace new opportunities and to
appreciate the good in life.
Imagine believing in yourselfand being confident and knowing
and focusing on the good.

(19:32):
So nurture a positive mindsetand watch as it transforms your
life for the better.
It's time to feel empowered.
It's time to make every choicecount.
