Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to today's
podcast of Beauty Buddies
building bonds and boosting yoursalon success.
We've got a really cool conceptthat Lindsay and I have used in
our salons that we really wantto share the strategy with you
today that really creates atransformation in your space to
really help revolutionize yourculture and your client
(00:25):
experience.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Yeah.
So just think what if your teamand your clients felt so
connected and supported thatyour salon became the go-to
space for both incredibletransformations and lasting
relationships?
If this sounds like somethingthat piques your interest, stick
(00:47):
around.
Today we're going to dive indeep to.
What does this look like, whatdoes it mean for your team, what
does it mean for your guestsand you know, ultimately, what
does it mean for your salon inthe bottom line.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Yeah, and so you're
probably thinking, well, what
the heck is a beauty buddy?
And so when you think aboutbeauty buddy, a beauty buddy is
going to be a system thatencourages collaboration, like
connection support within yoursalon team, and extends that
same energy to your clients, andso it's going to be about like
having that connection point.
You know it's going above, beyond those technical services,
(01:20):
to create the culture ofpartnership, empowerment and
transformation, because you know, when your team is connected,
like, you feel the energy.
We know that everything isenergy.
Energy cannot be created nordestroyed.
It can just change form, and sowhen energy is great in your
space and people are workingtogether like clients, feel that
it makes your team earn moremoney, the company has more
(01:42):
profit, and so this is just agreat new opportunity to look at
to really help collaborate andconnect your team.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, and so here's
what's really cool about beauty
buddies is that it's super easyto set up in your salon and, and
really the the first focus issetting it up in your salon and
so pairing up each person onyour team to form, you know, a
little beauty buddy, uh witheach other.
(02:12):
So it's somebody that you knowif you have multiple shifts a
week, um, you know, findsomebody that they at least work
with together once.
You know, maybe, somebody thatthey don't normally spend a lot
of time with um on the team, because really what they're
going to be doing is exploringways that they can support each
other, how they can collaboratewith each other and also just
(02:34):
give them ideas on how toenhance their inner and outer
beauty.
So truly, that's the wholepurpose behind um, behind this
beauty buddy system, is to justlook for ways to add value to
your partner's life.
You know, and I think what'ssuper cool about this is, you
know, that's really truly whatwe're in the business of doing
(02:54):
is adding value to our clientslives, but I think sometimes we
forget it comes down to thosereally basic skills and
understanding.
You know a few ways to justlook at somebody and enhance
their beauty that can reallymake you feel incredible.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yeah, and so I love
this.
And you know one thing, thereason, one of the reasons this
came up in our salon is we werelike you know, we really think
about like dress to impress, notexpress, and we knew some
members on our team needed somesupport in just making their
look feel more luxury.
And so, shout out to myleadership team I think they
(03:36):
might even came up with the nameBeauty Buddies.
I don't remember who did, butyou know they're like why don't
we pair, like Lindsay was saying, a beauty buddy together, so a
less experienced and a newexperienced stylist.
And like let's do like acheck-in every day before shift
with your beauty buddy, so let'smake sure your makeup at some
point, let's give you somefeedback on your outfit.
And like it was so incrediblefor the next 30 days when we
(03:58):
really measured the beauty buddysuccess, it was incredible to
see how people started showingup different, how you know um, I
know I think, lindsay, youmight even tell me this story
like one of your beauty buddieson your team, like the beauty
buddy determined that theirbuddy was actually a spring or I
can't remember what it was.
Was it spring?
Speaker 2 (04:15):
or yes, she was a
spring and she was using, like a
mauve um blush on her skin andyou know her beauty buddy just
said hey, have you ever thoughtabout trying a coral blush?
And it was like thetransformation was huge on the
team member.
It was it was awesome becauseit was so simple yet so profound
.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, I love that.
Another success story is wehave a stylist that she was like
I just put bronzer all over, and so we paired her with one of
our, like expert makeup artists, and during that time, the
makeup artist taught her whichis a stylist as well how to
contour, and so now she has alife skill that improves her
life.
So that's the entire purpose ofhaving a beauty buddy is to,
(04:57):
you know, dedicate that time foreach member to give each other,
and it doesn't be a fullmakeover, but just some feedback
, and feedback from a form oflove to help enhance their life.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
You know, and there's
so many different ways that we
can do this, we forget you knowhow, like, just you know the
direction of your curls, can,you know, enhance your face
shape?
And you know just simple littlethings like this, like really
just looking at the personthat's your beauty buddy and
just you know giving them somefeedback, some recommendations
on.
Hey, you know what, if youtried this and you know even, uh
(05:31):
, trying a new lipstick color on, maybe something that's like
out of their norm, to reallyelevate that look, because
sometimes, you know, the reasonwhy you've never worn a red lip
is because you know, you didn'tunderstand, like, hey, there's
some orangey red lips that aregreat for warm undertones and
there's some bluish red lipsthat are great for cool
undertones.
(05:52):
And the first time you try onone that works with your natural
coloring, you might be like, wow, I love a red lip.
And you know so.
There's just some cool thingsthat happen when you intend to
really help enhance somebody'sbeauty.
You know, and when you dedicatethat time to work one-on-one,
it really does build so muchtrust within the team.
(06:16):
Because you know, when youthink about it, like when you,
like Jen mentioned, when youhave that life skill of learning
how to contour, or learning, you know, that coral blush might
enhance you a little bit morethan mauve, just some different
things like that.
Like you remember who taughtyou that and you remember the
experience that you had when youwent through that
transformation, and so truly youknow we are in the business of
(06:40):
being beauty buddies for all ofour clients every day, and so
when we work on elevating witheach other first, what it does
is set us up for an incredibleamount of success behind the
chair or the table.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Yeah.
So when you have that, I lovethat.
You said that, because when youhave beauty buddies on your
team, that energy getstransferred, transferred over to
the clients and then you get tobecome a beauty buddy for the
client too.
And so, you know, it's allabout getting those personalized
consultations.
You know, looking at thosecolor analysis, that's one thing
we like to teach at SalonBusiness School.
You know, doing skin toneanalysis, face shapes.
(07:17):
You know lifestyleconsiderations Like it's about
creating that complete look forsomeone.
You know help them from head totoe, because when you can
really help someone gainconfidence, like really, at the
end of the day, that's what wesell.
Like you know, they're going totransform their life.
They're going to go out and dobigger and better things as well
.
When I think about, you know, talking about being a beauty
(07:38):
buddy for clients, I took myniece, who's five, to get her
ears pierced.
She's finally was like, oh, I'mready to go, let's do it.
And so, you know, when afive-year-old is ready to do it,
you just do it.
And so we went to a placecalled Rowan which was like a
almost like a high-end piercingstudio, and you know the the.
It was just really incrediblebecause I remember when I got my
ears pierced it was like click, click, you're done,
(07:59):
congratulations, your ears arepierced.
But it was like it was like anentire experience.
It was like they were a beautybuddy to her.
You know they had her name on awelcome board, you know they
went through the entire process, they had a consultation with a
five-year-old, and so like, yes, this piercing experience did
(08:21):
cost me $159, but it's anexperience you will never forget
.
Like I don't even remember myear piercing experience because
it wasn't like that, and so Ithink I just share that
experience with you is like arewe transferring that over to our
clients in the salon space?
Do we have, you know, thebeauty buddies on board that are
helping create their completelook?
Just like in when she got herears pierced, they showed her
how to take care of her ears, and so it was just an experience
that like, hey, if we'retransferring that kind of energy
(08:43):
, energy into the salon space, that can do nothing but increase
our average ticket and increaseour increase, our client
retention.
I mean it was $159 and weliterally were there for 30
minutes.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
So it was just, it
was a really, it was a really
incredible like learningopportunity.
That's.
That's an awesome story, jen,you know, and I I just think
that there is so much that doesjust enhance everybody's life
when you put in the beauty buddysystem, you know, and I think
another area that it reallyenhances is with clients.
You know, when, when you do getmore focused on um okay, how,
how do I create um an even moreenhanced like, pull out people's
(09:25):
natural features, like all ofthe things, the DNA that makes
them them and make it evenbetter.
If you know, because I thinksometimes we get so in our heads
about stuff like, even whenwe're mixing up a toner, we
think we're here to cancel outcolor.
Well, no, you're actually thereto enhance what's happening and
that's what we're there to do.
You know, with our guests eachday, you know I think another
(09:47):
thing that happens is it caneliminate the fear of.
You know I'm if you've everlived through the gray hair
trend, you know you've been inthe beauty business sometime
over the last five to sevenyears.
You know everybody coming inwith box black color hair and
being like, yeah, I want to havesilver hair.
So not gray, silver, but eitheror silver or gray.
You know, and once upon a timethat would be something that
(10:08):
would like freak people out andthey would say, oh my gosh, you
know you can't do this orwhatever it was.
But when you, when you die, when you're, when you have on
the thinking cap of being abeauty buddy, you know you can
ask them.
You know what is it that?
You know, has you attracted tothis look?
And then you can go throughthat color analysis to see,
because I remember I had aclient one time who wanted to do
(10:30):
that Um, and after asking her afew questions, we uncovered,
like, hey, she's looking for,she wants like some sort of an
extreme change.
She wants something that youknow just makes her feel alive
and fresh and like stand out.
But when we did color analysis,we discovered that, hey, she's
more of a spring and so if weput this silver or gray tone on
(10:52):
her, it's not going to enhanceher natural beauty, but what
could really make her glow is todo like a rose gold, like a
bright rose gold color.
And so, you know, we took herto that really light strawberry
color and she looked incredibleand it really enhanced her
natural look.
And so you know that's themindset of a beauty buddy is
that you're looking foropportunities for people all the
(11:14):
time instead of, like, justbeing an order taker and being
worried about what it is thatpeople are going to order up
with their hair.
Because, like you can reallychange that, change that
conversation and really trulytransform that guest, that
client, right in front of you.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Yeah, I love that you
said that, uh, lindsay, because
it makes me think what being abeauty buddy is not, and it's
not, you know, trying to conquersomeone or trying to say, oh,
you need to do this or you needto do that.
And so I do think, like whenyou're setting up beauty buddies
on your team and with you know,as you're going to be a beauty
buddy to clients, is making surethat you're approaching
(11:52):
everything with love, because wedon't want to do things out of
fear and we really want to, youknow, have that transformation,
like you were saying.
And so, you know, having thoseconversations and training your
team, I think that's thegreatest gift that you can give
them.
Like, if you're going to be abeauty buddy to client, help
them understand the why, helpthem understand how to do a
color analysis, how to do a faceshape analysis.
(12:12):
All of that is going to helpkind of gain their confidence
and they will be more certain indoing that.
And you know, I have a newstylist on my team as well.
They're like I don't know aboutthis color analysis.
It's new for them, but the mostamazing part about it like, if
you set up the context right, ifyou set up the right way in the
consultation of the why behindwhy you're doing this for the
(12:33):
client.
The client gets enrolled too,and they can even tell what
colors are best on them, and soI think it just really creates
that collaboration and reallybrings out the beauty in all.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Yeah, that's
incredible, you know, setting up
that context of why you'redoing things and really helping
your team understand the whybehind the beauty buddies and
like what that mindset lookslike.
I love that you talked aboutthat.
So when you go to implementbeauty buddies inside of your
salon, just, you know, startsmall.
You know, begin by pairing teammembers together and have them
(13:08):
schedule beauty buddy sessionsinto their calendar.
So for us, you know, it waslike, hey, let's meet once a
week and let's talk about somewins that we've had.
Because you know it was like, hey, let's meet once a week and
let's talk about some wins thatwe've had.
Because you know, beauty is notjust outside of us, it's also
within us.
So, share some wins that we'vehad.
You know, anything you want tocelebrate and then look for ways
that we can enhance the beautyof another.
(13:28):
And, you know, work with eachother on the verbiage around it,
you know, because it's notalways going to feel natural in
the beginning, um, if, if it'snot something you're already
implementing, but the more youpractice with each other, the
more it just becomes natural tohave those conversations with
each other.
And so you know also, just, youknow, make sure that you're
(13:51):
celebrating the success of yourteam.
Like recognize your team memberswho are truly embodying that
beauty buddy mindset.
You know, whether it's likeshouting them out um, if you
have a group page or messagingsystem, or doing some sort of a
reward during meetings, likejust recognizing, like hey,
that's really cool.
And having them shout eachother out too, you know, because
(14:12):
it is really fun when they'relike you know, so-and-so told me
to use um coral blush insteadof mob and it like totally
transformed my look.
And like just seeing thattransformation and then helping
them understand.
Like, hey, that's what we getto do for our clients each day.
Like, how lucky are we?
People will love coming intothe salon.
They're so excited to see usand we just get to help them be
(14:35):
even more beautiful than theyalready are.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Yeah, man, I just, I
love being a beauty buddy so
incredible and so like.
If you're ready to, um, youknow, really create that
collaboration, that connectionand that client loyalty, like,
talk to talk to your leadershipteam about this, you know, get
everyone set up.
I love that we did photos inthe back of the beauty buddies
together, so they're, you know, all over the back room.
(15:00):
I saw Lindsay and her yearbookthat she did for your team.
You even put it in youryearbook as the beauty buddies
together, and so there's so manyfun things that you can do with
this and cause.
It just really helps bring outthe beauty in everyone.
And so we know that if you'reready to transform your salon
into a place where clients andteam members feel that value,
(15:20):
they feel supported and inspired, you know, start setting up a
beauty buddy today.
That's going to be a greatopportunity for you.
And if you even want moreinsights and strategies, uh,
check out our book think andgrow.
Uh, get rich as a beauty pro.
Chapter nine, it dives a littledeeper into this.
So, salon owners, this is goingto be an amazing book that
you're going to want your teamto read, because it's going to
(15:42):
really teach them how to becomethat six figure stylist.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
I love that.
So remember success inside ofthis industry isn't just about
hair or skin, it's aboutrelationships.
So start building beautybuddies and watch your business
thrive.
