Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome back to Salon Success Secrets, where we don't
sugarcoat it, we solve it, andif you've ever followed a salon
coach and thought, wait, didthey just say what this episode
is for you.
So today we're pulling back thecurtain on some of the wildest,
most toxic coaching advicewe've seen floating around the

(00:27):
salon owner circles and socialmedia.
We're talking about promos thatbleed money, bots that pretend
to build culture, and modelsthat masquerade as leadership,
when really they just leave yourteam confused not just your
team, but you as well and yourguest forgotten.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Oh, I love that.
You know, and before you think,am I missing something?
Let me say this upfront it'snot you.
You're smart, you're ambitious,you care deeply.
You've just been handed brokensystems and broken ideas and
thoughts.
So let's talk about whatactually works and why.

(01:10):
Million Dollar Beauty Pro wasbuilt to fix all of this, you
know.
So stick with me to the end, because I'll show you how to get
access to the full system weuse to transform brand new team
members into top performing pros.
You know so.
So let's first start with astory that we heard last month.
This was so wild, jen, youfound it and sent it over to me

(01:33):
and I mean we were both justlike what, what it just made us
stop in our tracks, because awell-known salon coach proudly
shared that she ran a promotionwhere she gave her team 100%
commission on any new clientthat they brought in, and her
reasoning was because it showsthem how hard it is to bring in

(01:57):
new clients, you know.
And it was so wild becausesomeone asked in the comments,
like how many clients did theybring in?
And she said I believe it wasfive.
Like literally, those were herwords.
I believe it was five.
Five for a 100% giveaway.
I mean, it just blew our mindswhat all we saw in the comments.

(02:21):
Jen, do you remember some othercomments that we saw?

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yeah, I think was it.
One person said well, did itwork or did the promo works?
And I think they responded withwell, I think.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
So I was like yeah, it's so wild Because you know,
here's the truth.
If you don't know the ROI on apromo, it's not a strategy, you
guys, it's a guessing game andin salon ownership that game
costs real time.

(02:53):
It costs real money and realmomentum.
You know, it also created somuch confusion for her team
because now they think that itdoesn't cost money to run a
business.
You know, because there's onething that we believe, and
that's marketing is the owner'sjob.
You know, our job is to drivenew business into the door.

(03:17):
You know, and your team's jobis to create an experience so
magnetic and so on brand thatpeople can't wait to come back.
You know, and this is trulywhat we call the CTC model
inside of um.
You know, it's the CTC trianglethat we go over inside of
million dollar beauty pro, where, you know, you create the

(03:40):
clients, you train your teamteam and you close that loop
with all of the systems, becauseyou know you don't want to be
outsourcing marketing tountrained stylists.
You know, and you don't want toguess if the strategy worked.
You know, you want to measure, you want to improve and you want
to lead.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Yeah, so so interesting, right.
I just had my mind going athousand miles an hour thinking,
how do what?
What could you imagine runninga promotion?
And then someone asking did itwork?
Well, I think so, like, like,if you really think about a true
business, a true business owneris going to know, hey, yes, it
worked or no, it didn't work andthis is what we're going to do

(04:19):
next time.
And so just very interestingperspective.
And so another one that we sawwas the.
That was a salon owner coachingcompany that had designed an AI
bot.
And so interesting, what werealized is like this AI bot
almost forgot that we're allhuman.
And so you know AI, hey, welove it, I use it daily, like we

(04:41):
use it.
But here's what where thingskind of went sideways.
You know they're selling this AIpowered bot that supposedly
trains your team.
You know everybody likes thatsounds fancy, sign me up.
Until you truly realize allit's doing is spitting out
generic commands like, hey, number one, do a model day.

(05:02):
Number two, track your services.
And number three, check inweekly.
It reads like like a task list, not a transformation.
And one salon owner said youknow, I asked it to build me a
master's program for my team andthat's what I got.
But you see, transformationdoesn't come from passive
learning.
It comes from like anchoring, you know, emotionally anchoring

(05:26):
reputation, mentorship andactually a brand story.
You know, imagine this you havea team member come in, you just
hand them the 60-page handbookand you say good luck.
You know that's what this kindof this AI program is doing.
It's giving direction withoutmeaning and people have to
understand the why behind whythey're doing something, or you

(05:49):
lose them.
You know, inside Million DollarBeauty Pro we talk about the
talk method, the T-A-L-K methodthat trains pros through like
live coaching, brandstorytelling and real scenarios
that truly stick, because thehow matters less than the why.
Let me say that again, becauseit's so good, the how matters

(06:10):
less than the why, and if yourteam doesn't understand the why,
they won't remember the what.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
That's so good.
How you do it.
Your team always wants to knowhow.
How you do it.
Your team always wants to knowhow do you do it.
You know and so, yes, I lovethat you married that they still
need to know that why, but thatthey need to know how to do it.
And you know, I think jennareminds me, um, I just recorded
a youtube video.
Um, that was inspired by whenyou told me that you worked for
kfc, because you know it's sogood.

(06:42):
We all started we.
You know, hey, your first jobin the chat.
I think it's so great to seewhere we.
You know some of our first jobs, like where, what?
The transformation that theycreated in our lives.
You know, and I remember one ofthe things that you took away
was like it's all about theprocess, it's not about the
people, and you know that's whyChick-fil-A does over 17 billion

(07:03):
B billion dollars more than KFCeach year is because they know
the people are more importantthan the process.
And I think that's the biggestthing that that salon owner
coach is missing, you know, inthe bot and, hey, she's probably
listening to this podcast rightnow, so maybe she'll make some
adjustments, but don't worry ifyou're, you know, one of our,
our, our people inside of salonbusiness school, we've already

(07:25):
got some amazing prompts thatare just killer to help you
really, truly transform yourbusiness.
But let's talk about another onethat really stood out.
You know, this person did someamazing marketing where they
were being really tricky intheir, in their words, you words
.
They said commission is dead, booth rent is dead and the

(07:47):
future is based on this wholenew model and the model you guys
was all about 1099 contractors,and here's what they didn't
tell you.
If someone is a 1099, you know,and here's what they didn't

(08:07):
tell you.
If someone is a 1099, you, youhave no control over anything.
You not when they come in, notwhat they wear, not what shampoo
they use.
You can't require them to attendteam meetings or additional
trainings.
You know you can never coachthem to your culture, you can't
enforce standards, and that'sbecause, legally, you have hired
an independent business to workinside of your business.

(08:29):
You know, also, you're dodgingtaxes and on paper that sounds
like the stylist is getting abigger cut when you're like I'm
going to pay you, you know, 55%commission instead of 45.
But this, but after they paytheir self-employment taxes, it
often bounces out or they end uplosing more money.

(08:52):
Especially in the model thatshe was talking about, they will
definitely lose more money.
Plus, as the owner, you totallylose control of the guest
experience, and that's a cost nosalon brand can afford to pay.

(09:13):
You guys?
Let me say that again If youlose control of the guest
experience, that's a cost nosalon brand can afford to pay.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Yeah, I'd be, like you know, I'm thinking like the
Ritz Carlton Lindsay, really, kevin employees at the work at
the Ritz Carlton all be 1099.
Like you would not have thoseluxury touch points, that gold
standard that they have if theyall went and did their own thing
.
So it's just such aninteresting perspective of why
would we want to do that in thesalon world when you're really

(09:45):
true about your vision and whatyou're creating, like you need
that synergy.
You need that synergy togetherto really create something
incredible.
So just so interesting.
Another one that we saw wasshould you escape, yeah, from
behind the chair or stay thereforever?
And so let me just say this youguys, like, if you're trying to

(10:09):
escape something you built, youneed a reset.
Like, when I think of escaping,I think like escaping jail.
I don't know why that comes tome, but like that word, like if
you're trying to escapesomething you built, you
probably need a reset.
Like we don't escape.
At the end of the day, weevolve.
You know, this coach went on tosay, hey, build a team of seven
to 10, seven to 10 people, thenpull back.

(10:30):
But here's the thing pullingback.
That sounds kind of weird tooto me.
It's like when salon ownerspull back without systems, the
whole thing falls apart.
You know, the culture fades, the clients notice and the brand
erodes.
And so we want to teach youlike you want to pull forward
into leadership, into training, into that legacy.

(10:52):
One of the owners recently oneof our owners that was getting
out behind the chair gifted alongtime client to another team
member on their team and she wasnervous, so nervous she's like
I don't know I've been doing herhair for so long.
But because she had built thattrust, she had built that
culture, had systems and atransfer process, the client

(11:16):
just didn't just stay like, shecontinued to be a raving fan and
even love the new serviceprovider that the owner had
paired her with.
You know that's not escapingthe chair, that's truly
ascending into your next roleand like, when you really look
at it from that viewpoint, man, that gives you so much more

(11:37):
power.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
Oh, jen, I love that so much because there is you
know, it's two totally differentidentities.
And so when they said, pullingback, no, like you're.
No, you're not going to be ahairstylist anymore.
So nobody's going to be likedid you eat?
Did you wear your seatbelt?
You're not going to have thoseclients that are addicted to you
anymore, necessarily.
But now you get to step in andthe hat that you get to wear is

(12:02):
that salon owner.
So that's your new identity andyou get to show up bigger and
better than ever, and that'swhen your team truly starts to
really grow and incrediblethings happen.
So I love that you talked aboutthat salon owner that you know.
It is so fun to be able to walkthrough that stage with people
so that they're crystal clear onlike, hey, what are you know?
How is this financially goingto be smart for everybody?

(12:24):
And then, how do we make this awin for our team or our clients
, which is definitely the mostimportant thing at the end of
the day, you know, and thatreally draws us into this.
This fifth thing that reallystood up for us stood out to us.
You know, it's something thatwe've heard for years um, from a
salon owner coaching companythat likes to golden handcuff

(12:46):
people to their business.
You know, so, um, you know,it's just such a wild thing to
think about.
You know, because it's almostlike they're giving their team
anything.
They want to keep them, youknow, and if they want to act
like owners, then make themowners.
You know, let's golden handcuffthem, but you know it sounds

(13:07):
noble but it's very dangerous.
You know, because ownershipwithout responsibility creates
entitlement, and when you giveaway your business without
systems or leadership capacity, you lose control of your client
experience.
You know, and I used to thinkthis too until Jen you just

(13:28):
recently shared a video fromJesse Cole of the Savannah
Bananas and he said we said noto investors because once others
got involved, their prioritybecomes control and return and
we work for one person only ourfans.

(13:50):
You guys, in our world, thefans are our clients, and when
you build your business aroundkeeping stylists instead of
serving guests or clients, thebusiness starts to hollow out
from the inside.
Yes, there are smart ways toreward your team.

(14:12):
You know, if you've gotten tothe stage where, hey, people are
capturing that vision andreally truly delivering to your
clients, which is the number onething that you're focused on.
You know you could reward themthrough leadership, equity or
franchise opportunity, butgolden handcuffs, as you know,

(14:32):
no, they're handcuffs.
You guys, at the end of the dayit's you might as well go hang
out with the people who are, youknow, teaching you to escape.
You know, like, hey, this isthe we should have called this
the jail episode.
You know, if you want to go tosalon owner jail, here's how you
do it.
Hey, golden handcuff people andjust create a lot of chaos in
your lives.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
So that's exactly what I was.
We just talked about escaping.
Now we got golden handcuffs.
What in the world is going onhere?
So maybe you're listening tothis and you're you're laughing,
like Lindsay and I.
Maybe you're thinking, hey, Iwant to train my team but I
don't have the time.
You know I need to hand themthe system, but you know, at the

(15:13):
end of the day sometimes I'mstill folding towels.
And that's exactly why we builtMillion Dollar Beauty Pro.
It's an on-demand and livetraining program.
It's kind of like aplug-and-play system designed to
transform new hires into sixfigure brand builders.
Yeah, we don't just guess, weactually measure.

(15:33):
We don't outsource leadership.
We built it in and we don'tgolden handcuff our teams.
You know our, our teams ingeneral.
We build cultures where theydon't want to leave.
And if you want to see how thisworks, if this really interests
you, you're like man, what agift it would be to get back
some time and to have my teamtrained to become six figure
beauty pros.

(15:53):
Text the word pro P?
R?
O to four, six, nine, two, eight, three, five, five, nine,
zero, and we'll send you thefull breakdown because you don't
have time to sort through badadvice.
You need that blueprint thatbuilds your brand in your bank
account, and this is whatmillion dollar beauty pro is and

(16:17):
was designed to do.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
I love it.
You know, if this episode madeyou rethink what you've been
taught, leave us a five-starreview and share it with another
salon owner who deserves better, because better is possible and
it starts with truth andclarity on the vision that you
are trying to create.
So we'll see you next time onsalon success secrets podcast.
