This is Part 1 of a 3-part series inside the Island Packet Factory on YouTube:
⚓ Part 1: First look at the IP 44 Motor Sailer (this episode): https://tinyurl.com/IPFactoryPart1
⚓ Part 2: A full tour of the Island Packet 349:  https://tinyurl.com/IPFactoryPart2
⚓ Part 3: A behind-the-scenes factory tour to see how these legendary boats are built (Coming soon)

A century of months in the making, the Island Packet 44 Motor Sailor emerges as a revolutionary hybrid vessel that forever eliminates the age-old "sail or power" dilemma. This walkthrough reveals a meticulously crafted boat offering unmatched versatility for serious cruisers seeking both worlds without compromise.

The tour begins with the exterior features showcasing Island Packet's renowned attention to safety and functionality—hard rails with strategic openings, dual shore power connections at bow and stern, and an ingenious side boarding door adjacent to the helm. The Dutch-style helm door allows for perfect climate control while maintaining connection to your surroundings, complemented by a fully swiveling, reclining helm seat from Stid.

Below decks, the craftsmanship continues with customizable wood interiors (maple, sapele, or cherry), an innovative galley featuring induction cooking and multi-function smart oven, and clever storage solutions throughout. The salon's convertible table, dedicated navigation area, and unique line management system reflect decades of real-world cruising experience.

The engine room reveals the heart of this hybrid marvel—a 110hp Yanmar diesel pushing the vessel to approximately 9 knots, complemented by electric sail handling systems for when the wind beckons. Systems redundancy defines the engineering philosophy, from dual 50-gallon holding tanks to comprehensive climate control options including variable-speed air conditioning and hydronic heating.

At a base price of $699,000 (or less configured as a pure trawler), this limited-production vessel represents extraordinary value. With only 12 built annually and just one discounted slot remaining before launch, serious cruisers should act quickly to secure their opportunity to own what might be the most versatile, thoughtfully designed vessel under a million dollars available today.

Darrell Allen (00:00):
Hi everybody and welcome to Island Packet.
Leslie and I are here on abeautiful March day and we've
got Tinsley and Rob with us hereto introduce the Motor Sailor,
which is about a hundred monthproject to get the Motor Sailor
finished.
We don't have the cushions orthe mattresses in it yet, but we
want to give you a sneakpreview because I think it's the

(00:28):
coolest boat out there forunder a million dollars, and
what we want to let you know isthere's only one spot left.
You know that has the discountavailable on it.
So if you want to save somemoney, give me a call first,
because once we launch her andget her out there, there's going
to be a lot of activity.
At least Leslie and I think wecan build it as a trawler or we
can build it as a motor sailor, either way.

Leslie Allen (00:45):
This is a project that's really near and dear to
our hearts.
We've thought about it sincethe day we bought Island Packet.

Darrell Allen (00:51):
Well, we had a motor sailor in San Diego.
So you know we're inclined andwe like motor sailors anyway,
because we believe they providethe best of both worlds and
that's why I just mentionedearlier it's a hundred month
project.
So you can see, number one wasbuilt with the standard ivory
and camel tan island packetcolors.
We obviously have a really nicehard rail great bow, pulpit,

(01:12):
double rollers, you know niceanchor, windlass, dual spring
line cleats, a nice walk aroundthe deck.
You can see the little bluecourtesy lights that we have
along the sides for both portand starboard for the walking
around the gate open up righthere.
The hard rail will open righthere in the middle and that's
nice, especially for the otherside, because it has the helm
door right there.
And the one thing I want to letyou guys know is I want you to

(01:34):
know that this boat has a horn.
Okay, and we've got CaptainLarry up there to demonstrate.
Larry, can you show us what thehorn sounds like, us what the
horn sounds like?
There you go.
Well, if that doesn't get theirattention, I don't know what
will.
Right, take a look at theinside of the boat, starting on
the swim step, working our waythrough the cockpit and then

(01:55):
down below take a look at theengine room.
This boat was obviously builtas a motor sailor with the
optional reacher.
You can see there the reachercar on track and then we have
electric sheet winch for thereacher.
You can see there the reachercar on track and then we have
electric sheet winch for thereacher installed on both sides
obviously, and the boat willhave an electric furler.
So you will I'll show you alittle bit how you're going to
stand, sit or stand in thecockpit and bring out that
reacher, which will really givegives all of our boats great

(02:18):
light wind performance, as ourowners can testify.
Hey, uh, welcome again to islandpacket.
Uh 44 motor Sailor or Trawler.
Leslie and I are extremelyexcited that the boat is about
nine days away from launching.
It's taken us a hundred monthsto get to this point, but we
hope everybody loves it as muchas we do.

(02:39):
Someday we hope to have oneourselves so that we can go
cruising.
As we mentioned, we gave up amotor sailor when we bought
Island package.
So this is our replacement andit's honestly it's far better
than the boat we gave up.
So we've got a nice largecockpit here.
It's about probably seven, eight feet and then about 11
feet wide.
The boat total is 13 foot andbeam and 44 feet overall.

(03:00):
We've got a very nice swim stepon the transom.
We've got great under feet.
Overall We've got a very niceswim step on the transom.
We've got great under cockpitstorage.
Now this is going to be detailedout, it's going to be painted
out and then we're going to beput deep grating in here before
the boat ships.
So, as you can see, the boat isa little dirty because it
hasn't been detailed yet.
But just look past the dirt andlook at what we got going on

(03:20):
here.
We've got electric winches,we've got a side boarding door.
So here, if you dock tostarboard which the helm is to
starboard you're able to easilycome down the deck and step off
to the dock.
You dock to port.
You can step off on the aft andto the swim step and step over
to port.
Very nice, uh, high quality, stainless steel aft door.

(03:40):
This, this window, I'lldemonstrate it does roll down.
And then, of course, the dooropens.

Capn Tinsley (03:45):
That's a good thing.

Darrell Allen (03:48):
Yep, excuse me, okay, all right.
And then we have over here.
We have shore power.
We have two 30 amp shore powerconnectors and we also have the
duplicates of these on the bow.
So whether you're docked bow orstern, you have shore power
very close to you.
We've got just a freshwaterwash down here and then we've
got a just a fresh water washdown here and then we've got our
hot and cold shower off that wedo on all the boats right here.

(04:09):
Of course, we've got a greathard top.
We are going to add a couplesupports right here so that if
you want to store your dinghy upon top, you have the ability to
do so and there you could getit down with, obviously, the
topping lift and the boom.
You know it would be somethingthat I would want to see you
rehearse a little bit in calmwaters before you try to do it.

(04:30):
This current owner is going todo kind of a Ross Kelly
Olsen-style davit on the transom, and so that's what they're
going to do.
This boat's shipping to Seattlein about a month, so she'll be
here in St Petersburg at theHarbridge Marina from about the
middle of March to the middle ofApril.
So if you want to see the boatin person, that's going to be
your time frame and obviouslywe'll be doing demo sails at

(04:52):
that time.
The owners are going to comeand spend a couple weeks with us
so we can take you out sailingpretty much any time between the
third week of March to aboutthe middle of April.
All right, let's take a lookinside.
The door locks itself open, asI mentioned the window.

(05:17):
So the window is purposelydesigned to be on the slower
side so that people don't gethurt, and it has an automatic
stop once it reaches the bottomand once it reaches the top and,
of course, if you want itsomewhere in the middle, you can
just stop the mechanism For thegalley.
On the starboard side of theboat we have a nice sink.
We've got our usual Seagullfreshwater tap.
This is a filtered water tapand we also do the cove side in

(05:40):
the hedge as well and thenyou've got a typical growy
faucet that we do on all theboats.
This is a Corian sink, one ofthe choices you have, and
obviously this is the color ofCorian that these owners pick.
You can pretty much do anycolor Corian that you want.
This is designed to be thepantry for the galley.
So we've got two levels herewhere you can put different

(06:00):
sized goods, and then this isdesigned to be the trash bin
Right now it's tool storage andthis is designed to be the
recycle bin here, whichobviously we don't have
installed yet.
These folks did the mapleinterior and this is the little
sponge drawer or whatever herethat we just didn't want to
waste any space.
We're gonna offer inductioncooking only on this boat.

(06:20):
We've got a Kenyon two burnerinduction stove top with a four
way smart oven.
Below four way would be it'd bea microwave, a convection oven,
an air fryer and a toaster oven.
So you've got a lot ofpossibilities there and that's a
nice pot and pan drawer that Iwon't mess with right now.
We've got three and a halfcubic foot refrigerator or

(06:42):
freezer.
These doors can both befreezers or both be
refrigerators, depending on thetype of cruising you're going to
be doing.
And of course the bottom isobviously this very similar size
, except for the little bit cutout here for the compressor.
We obviously don't have thecushions on board yet.
They'll be coming after theboat is detailed, but we do have

(07:02):
a really nice island packagestar table that will float out
and be full size or not, it willdrop to make a berth.
So this pedestal will dropcompletely down to make a berth.
A little bit of storage behindthe cushions.
Aft.
We've got a dusty nav stationhere for chart books and stuff
like that.

(07:23):
And then what I really think isreally exceptionally cool about
the boat and very unique is wehave the main sheet, the main
outhaul, the jib sheet and theboom vine coming in through four
small tight holes here that aredesigned exactly for the line
that's going through it to anelectric cell beam winch.

(07:43):
Okay, and then we have buttonsfor the electric furlers.
So what you would do to extendthe main cell out is you would
push the green button, you wouldwrap the outhaul around here
and then you push the greenbutton for the electric furler
and the furler would unroll thecell as the outhaul is pulling
the outhaul line out or thewinch is pulling the outhaul

(08:03):
line out.
This is designed to store allthe lines in here.
This is waterproof and doesdrain into the bilge, so we've
taken in account that.
You know, if you're obviouslyout in the rain and the lines
get wet and they come in here, you know you may need a little
bit of a towel or something, possibly, but you do have a
place to stick wet lines andthey're not just going to be all
over the place.
We've got some nice overheadhere for electronics.
These owners are going to do a12 inch display here, obviously,

(08:28):
a VHF with a RAM mic down here,a 16 inch display right here,
and then we've got our enginestart and stop, our engine,
wireless controls and then righthere we've decided that we're
going to do the bow thrusterhere, the Yanmar control here,
as I mentioned, this is thestart and stop button, and then
we're going to do autopilot here.
We've got lights here thatactually turn off the courtesy

(08:52):
lights outside, and then thiswill control the overhead lights
here on the console to white, blue or red.
This owner chose theleather-wrapped wheel.
We can also do a wood-stylewheel you want, or a chrome
wheel.
We do have the helm seatcurrently mounted and this is

(09:14):
one of the things I absolutelylove about the boat.
We've got a Dutch style door.
So what I envision as Leslieand I are cruising she's sitting
over in the corner of thesettee reading her book and I'm
sitting up here in the setteewith my arm out.
I got a nice breeze blowingthrough, right, and then if

(09:36):
that's not enough breeze we'regonna you can just pop these out
of vent mode or we can open upall the way.
So in this, obviously this iswhat you need to trim your
mainsail, okay.
Or we can put a camera on theon a hardtop, if you want to do
it remotely right so anotherthing about this store that we
love I personally love is thatit's so much access.

(09:57):
If you're at dock and you canjust hand off things to each
other and you're right in thegalley, so and, if I can figure
out, the seat will swivelcompletely.
So when you get to and you'reright in the galley, so you know
, and, if I can figure out, theseat will swivel completely.
So, uh, when you get to whereyou're going, you can swivel the
seat around and be part of theyou know, the entire group.
It will obviously recline, thearmrest will go up and down.
This is a stid helm seat, bythe way.

(10:18):
So you know we, as an itempacket, we try to seek out the
very best that we can, can buildor buy and buy.
This is actually an ice maker,so they wanted an ice maker, and
this is typically storage underhere, or it can be designed for
an ice maker either way,Kinsley didn't you want to point
out what was under there?
Yeah, we have a Maybrew 17,000BTU air with reverse cycle heat

(10:41):
and this is actually a variablespeed unit, so it can run off of
our inverter.
Reverse cycle heat, and this isactually a variable speed unit,
so it can run off of ourinverter.
And then these folks chose ahydronic I will basto hydronic
heater because, as we mentioned, the boat is going to Seattle,
so this is actually theantifreeze in the heater, one of
the heater units right here, and the hydronic heater
circulates hot water throughoutthe boat and then it blows fans

(11:03):
or air over the hot water.
So it's not a dry heat.
You don't get that dry mouththat you do in like a forced air
heater.
All right.
And then as far as the airconditioning is concerned, we
have it set here, but we have afiberglass plenum that takes the
air from there up this side andthen it splits out and goes
both directions.
So each one of these overheadunits is air conditioning and

(11:24):
you can open them or close them, you can turn them, you can
rotate them any way you want toprovide air conditioning
throughout the boat and or thesalon and any part you want.
So Leslie sitting over here, she needs a lot of air
conditioning.
So we would have all theseturned on her and and coming
down on on her right there aswell as the one that's above
Rob's head.

(11:45):
So we've got a really cool airconditioning system in this boat
, you know.
Obviously, as always, all thelights dim.
You know the valance lights dim.
We are having Dometic is comingout this week to design blinds,
pull down blinds for the boat.
We also have shades, exteriorcanvas covers for the windows as

(12:07):
well.
Nice handrail as island packets.
Everywhere is a handrail.
This is all the breaker panelhere for anchor lights, you know
, steaming lights, runninglights, foredeck lights,
spreader lights, the horn, thewipers, electronics, autopilot,
so everything that's.
You know we split the breakerpanel up.

(12:28):
We have a DC breaker after Iforgot to show you and an AC
breaker.
But we also have the stuff thatapplies to the helm right here
next to the helm, which I was,you know, I really wanted, so
that was a request of mineVariable speed, windshield,
washers, wipers as well aswashers.
I'm not sure they're hooked upyet but, as we know, the horn's

(12:49):
hooked up.
One of my things was I didn'twant people falling accidentally
down the stairs, so we did makethis little table here to
provide a little bit additionalplace to put a chart or a book
or or Cell phone whatever, andit hopefully will keep people
from, you know, accidentallyfalling down the stairs.
We put could have put a doorhere, but it just really didn't

(13:11):
work out with, you know, we'vegot a handrail that's gonna be
installed right here, so it'sjust the door idea didn't work
out.
So we came up with this and Ithink this works, works well.
If you're afraid of that, obviously if it's a little kid
on board, then you know, get youa net right, okay?
So while we're up in the salon,I want to show you the engine
room.
We've actually got two hatcheshere that are removable in the

(13:33):
salon.
They're both on hinges.
This is the one that'saccessible from here and then
the other one opens from insidethe engine room.
Obviously they're on pneumaticpistons and we've got a nice
stairway to go down.
This boat has marillon throughhulls, dripless shaft seal,
underwater generator exhaust, soyou won't hear any of the

(13:54):
generator exhaust coming out theside like you would on mini
boats.
It actually comes out under theboat and the only thing that
comes out above the water lineis a little bit of air.
We have 110 horsepower Yanmardiesel a 6kW.
Northern Lights generator.

Capn Tinsley (14:09):
Can we go down?
Yeah, all right, let me stop.

Darrell Allen (14:13):
All right.
So coming on down the stairs isone way to get in the engine
room.
The other way, actually, isunderneath the stairs that go
down to the staterooms, and I'llshow you that here shortly.
So, starting at Ford andworking our way, after we've got
our fuel filter system, we'vegot dual ray cores for the
engine with a vacuum gauge, andthen we've got our generator ray

(14:35):
core as well, or lugger filter, and then we've got our oil
change system as well.
Actually, not oil change system, I'm sorry, this is the fuel
priming system here, and we canalso polish the fuel with it as
well.
Okay, so, depending on how youmanipulate the valves and we're
obviously going to label allthis stuff it happens at the
very end, after the boat isdetailed, because you want to

(14:57):
put labels over dust and dirt.
So all these will be labeled sothat you can draw from whatever
tank you want.
We have an auxiliary tank onthis boat the boat standard with
180 gallons, and then theychose to add an additional
50-gallon tank here.
So they have the extra fueltank.
We can also put an extra watertank here.
The tank in front is theholding tank for the owner's

(15:18):
stateroom or the owner's head.
Okay, so each toilet has itsown holding tank.
They're both 50 gallons each,so you've got actually 100
gallons of holding tank in theboat, okay, and they're both
independent.
So if one macerator pump or onetoilet breaks, you have a
complete system to work with aswell on either head.

(15:39):
All right, obviously, access toyou know stuff in the bilge
area and you know access tothrough hulls that looks like
that's for the knot meter wouldbe my guess.

Capn Tinsley (15:50):
What's this one?

Darrell Allen (15:53):
uh, we've got a what a macerator pump there and,
uh, our overboard dish chargehere.
So obviously these are alllabeled at this point, and over
here too.
Yeah, well, this would directit either overboard, uh, or to
the holding tank, or to themacerator.
So for the overboard, it's likeif you're gonna pump out at a
fuel dock, okay, and then thiswould send it to the macerator

(16:14):
and then this pulls it from theholding tank.

Capn Tinsley (16:16):
And then what's this one right here?

Darrell Allen (16:20):
Like that's one of the, that's a, that's a fuel
tank, that's the standard fueltank of 180 gallons.
Wow, okay, I don't know if youguys can tell, but Tinsley is a
boater.
There's not many women.

(16:40):
I show up to that.
Open up compartments in theengine room.
You know it's fun to, becauseyou know honestly, women buy the
boats that's been my motto for40 years and they buy real
estate too so obviously 110horsepower yanmar uh will push
the boat along about nine knotsas a trawler uh or a motor
sailor, which is faster thanhull speed, and the reason it
can do that is our stern on theboat is relatively flat.

(17:01):
It's not quite a semidisplacement hull, but it's not
a displacement hull either.
So it's kind of in between.
We chose the maryland throughhulls and we chose the ones that
have the fresh water wash downso we can literally, depending
on which direction you turn thevalve.
So this way it would bring inlike a hose and flush out the
engine with fresh water, andthis way it actually brings the

(17:23):
raw water in from underneath theboat.
So we have that on the all theair conditioners, on the
generator and the engine.

Capn Tinsley (17:31):
You got the Victron controllers.

Darrell Allen (17:33):
Yeah, we always do.
Victron this is a 3000 wattVictron Multi Plus and then we
have different chargersdepending on what we're charging
whether we're charging lithiumbatteries or whether we're
charging AGM batteries.
Obviously, I believe thesefolks chose AGM.
We've got a couple AGM here andthen we've got back behind
there.
We have a whole other bank ofAGM batteries and we have this

(17:55):
opening here in this lawn thatwill come out for changing the
batteries.
This is our oil change systemhere, and so this will change
the oil for the generator or theengine and then you pump it
into a bucket with this righthere, and then you can also
reverse it and pull it back outof, say, the oil container for
to put the oil back in eitherthe generator or the engine if

(18:17):
you don't want to add itmanually.
We mentioned the dripless shaftlog, so it's the last drop.
I've got them that.
Originally they put a a like astarboard piece over here and I
have them coming back and makinga clear acrylic piece to go
through here, so you don't haveto remove this to see what's
going on with the shaflop, soliterally you can watch what's
going on right in front of you.

(18:38):
If I had waited about nine orten days the boat would be clean
, but then Tinsley wouldn't behere, would she?

Capn Tinsley (18:48):
That's right.

Darrell Allen (18:49):
So we have a 6kw northern lights generator uh,
which would more than powereverything on the boat.
In the boat next to you we havea the regular start stop down
here and then, of course, wehave a remote start stop up, and
at the helm, I need one ofthose.

Capn Tinsley (19:03):
Okay, what is this water we have?

Darrell Allen (19:04):
a 12 gallon stainless steel well basto,
adjustable temperature hot waterhere.
If stainless steel, webasto, adjustable temperature hot water
heater.
If anybody can find a betterhot water heater on the market,
let me know.
Okay, so you can adjust thetemperature.
It's 12 gallons.
It's extremely efficient.
We have owners that we run intoat the boat shows, for example
last year in Annapolis that toldme that literally he can get up

(19:25):
and take a shower in themorning after the boat sitting
on anchor all night long andhave plenty of hot water, okay,
from just the generator.
And or these folks did get the400 gallon a day spectra water
maker.
This is the largest 12 voltwater maker that spectra makes I
got a question how much is thatwater?
uh, that's about a 30 000 optionyeah, and so that was.

(19:48):
That's like the top of the linespectra is as far as we're
concerned, and this is 400gallons a day.
Okay, so you think about thatit's making 20, something about
21 gallons an hour.
So you run it for a couplehours in the morning and you
running for a couple hours inthe evening, you know why you
were cooking, or you're runningyour generator this is that
12-volt but but if it and you'remaking you know 40, 80 gallons

(20:08):
a day, you know you don't needto get fresh water anywhere.
Uh, as far as and you don't,you, you don't and many marinas
and many fuel docks, I have atendency to be worried about the
water that I would pick up atthem, because you just don't
know how old the hoses are, howlong the water has set, you know
what could have possibly got inthere and and, honestly, if I
have a choice, I will always usewatermaker water and never use

(20:31):
a marina water or fuel dockwater or anything like that.
If I have a choice.

Capn Tinsley (20:36):
So a watermaker for a 349, you know Well we
would go one size down.

Darrell Allen (20:42):
We would go one size down and it would probably
be in the, you know, low tomid-20 range.
Okay, yeah, okay.
Yeah, I'd have to get my 349price sheet out.
Yeah, yeah, and what is thisover here?
Uh, this is part of the watermakers.
So this is the, the compressorand these are the filters.
Okay, okay, so I'm not anexpert at water makers.
I've never personally had one.
Um, I haven't been fortunateenough to go cruising that long,

(21:04):
um, at least not on my own boatif the world ended, you could
exist on this boat as long asyou didn't run out of fuel but
if you did, you just sail.
Well, that's the way I hope so.
I hope I sailed long before Iran out of fuel yeah all right.
And then we do have a smalldoor that does gain us access
into, yeah, the cockpit.

Capn Tinsley (21:23):
Uh, that we've, you know, looked at earlier well
, I didn't get a good shot of itall right.

Darrell Allen (21:27):
So we're out of the engine room and we're back
in the salon and we want to taketensely uh and you guys
downstairs.
So we designed the stairway topurposely be very user-friendly.
It's about the same uh inclineas you would have at your home,
so it's easy for pets andanimals as well as for, you know
, people like myself.

(21:48):
I'm turning 68 this month andhonestly I don't need, you know,
a steep companionway.
We're going to do a handrailright here.
In fact it's sitting right overthere on the settee.
We just one of the last minuteitems that we got to do.
And then, as I mentioned also, when we're in the engine room,
these stairs do lift up.
They're on pneumatic pistons, which are not installed yet, but
they will lift all the way upso that you have the ability to

(22:10):
walk through here and we canlift them up when you guys are
down here.
But they are going to havepneumatic pistons.
All of our doors have magneticlatches so you don't have to
reach down to unlock it or tryto use your toe or something
like that.
And then you guys come on down.
So when you get down, we haveto port, we have the guest

(22:31):
quarters Wow, and I'm sureyou'll adjust the customization
options.
Yes, so this is the standardlayout of the boat.
This is a custom built boat and, as Leslie just said, aft cabin
can be basically built any wayyou want.

(22:51):
So if you don't plan on havingguests on board, you don't.
We can build this as an office.
We can build this as a utilityroom we can basically build this
any way you want.
You know we've got a smallhanging locker in this
arrangement and then this wasgoing to be a big hanging locker
, but instead they opted for theSplendide washer vented dryer.
It is a vintage dryer and itacts just like a regular home

(23:12):
washer dryer, except in asmaller capacity.
So, as always, the lights comeon when you open the hanging
locker doors.
They're all cedar lined and, aswe mentioned earlier, this is
the maple interior.
Yeah, the buttons are new, sowe just put them on actually
yesterday.
So if you don't want thosecabinets across the side, you

(23:36):
don't need them.
That's a hull side port in themiddle, but we don't have the
hull side port installed yet.
That's one of the last thingswe do, so that's why it's
covered up, but it really.
If that was open, yeah, it wouldprovide a lot of light in the
in the boat, and if you wanted alarger hull side port, we could
do a larger hull side port.
So, being a custom boatmanufacturer, you know, tell us
what you want.
We have one owner that wants acompanionway helm seat and I

(23:57):
should have done this when we inthe salon, but I didn't think
about it.
So we're gonna actually shortenthe table and put a companion
helm seat there so that she hasa regular chair to sit in,
versus like a settee to kind ofrelax in.
So I think she might.
You know they have back issuesor something like that and she
needs that support.
So we can modify the salondifferent ways as well.

(24:18):
So if you're not liking, thestandard layout.
All you've got to do is call usand say, look, can you build
this?

Capn Tinsley (24:24):
and we will work on it.
Is there anything that you havetold somebody?
No, I can't do that on any ofthe boats.

Darrell Allen (24:32):
Well, I mean it's tough to move some of the
bulkheads.
Yeah, you know, I couldcertainly eliminate the second
head.
We have a drawing where wecould do a down galley.
If you don't want an up galleyand you want more settee space
up there, we can do a downgalley.
But we would use this area plusa little bit of the aft cabin
and you would actually enter theaft cabin from the galley.

(24:52):
So we would take this away andthen there would be, this would
be extended and then it therewould be a little bit of a
galley through here.
So the washer dryer then, ifyou want that, has to move
someplace else or move aft but, again.
It really doesn't.
You know.
We offer, you know, cherry, weoffer like maple, we offer
sapele, we offer any colorcountertop you want.

(25:13):
We have multiple different sinkoptions available for the, for
the galley as well as the head.
This is what we call ourfrosted sink there's a shower in
here this is a wet head.
Okay, yeah, this is.
This is.
Oh, hey, we just didn't havethe room.
Now, if you wanted to shower,if that was important to you,
did we do that.
Yeah, but you're going to useup.
You know you got to give it upsomeplace.
So this is a fresh water or rawwater flush toilet so you can

(25:36):
you know, when you're offshoreyou can draw in the raw water.
Uh, it all goes into theholding tank and then you empty
the holding tank from from there, depending on where you are.
So, as I mentioned, this is awet head, and then the ensuite
door is right here If we get off.

Capn Tinsley (25:53):
Oh, another one.
Look at all these hatches.

Darrell Allen (25:55):
Yeah the door to the forward cabin is right here.
So we have a nice, nice owner'sstateroom.
This is probably the largesthead we build in any island
packet.
We've got it's about oh my gosh, it's probably 10 feet by 4
feet or so.
Again, we've got it's about ohmy gosh, it's probably 10 feet
by four feet or so.
Again, we've got good counterspace.
We've got storage underneath.
We've got the same type of rawwater fresh water toilet.

(26:19):
We've got a nice tall showerand intensity.
I don't know if you ever noticed, but we sandblast this pattern
into our shower doors of thewaves and the stars.
So when we buy these they'reclear.
Actually we buy them in sheets,we cut them to this size and
then we sandblast the pattern.
And if you wanted to have yourown pattern done, we've done

(26:42):
that before.
We had a guy who had a ranch inTexas and he wanted his ranch
logo on the shower doors insteadof the star.
So we can, we put his ranchlogo right here.
So we've got a nice seat.
You know, sit down.
We've got, obviously, theadjustable shower head, little
soap dish, you know, all niceand watertight.
You know you can brace yourself.
Good ventilation.

(27:03):
We've got two opening sideports.
We've got a hatch that opens upabove us, so we've got nice
ventilation beautiful.

Capn Tinsley (27:15):
What were you pointing out?

Darrell Allen (27:16):
here storage, okay, yeah, and a little bit
under the sink as well, and ofcourse, the sliding storage up
here.
And again, every light in heredims or can be turned off.

Capn Tinsley (27:28):
You got power right there, okay, and you got
power here, yeah.

Darrell Allen (27:35):
Well, and we've added this one inside the locker
here.
So if you don't want to leave, like if you're using an electric
toothbrush or a water pit, youdon't have to leave it out here,
you can put it inside here andcharge it.
So that was something thatactually a client asked us to do
, you know, years ago, and we'venever kept up on it.
So if you're sitting herewatching this video and you're
thinking, well, I wonder if theywould do this.
Or, you know, I would like theboat, but if it had that, I

(28:05):
would like tell us the way.
We are both have gotten so coolas we listen to owners and
every owner comes with withreally great ideas.
So good-sized hanging locker, cedar line, you know, as always,
the lights come on, louvereddoor for ventilation, and we
build all this in-house.
This is not, you know, it'ssomething that you, you know,
just buy off the shelf.
So all this is built in-house.

Capn Tinsley (28:21):
Sweet.
And then there's another porthole.
We've got two big hole sideports.

Darrell Allen (28:26):
These are actually bigger than the ones
that were in the AFT stateroomand just to give you, an idea,
oh my god.
Yeah.
So we've got a reallygood-sized hole side port on
both sides, which would let in alot of light.
We've got two good ports plus areally big hatch and, of course
, as always, we've got theblackouts and the screens on all
of our overhead storageunderneath the bunk, as always

(28:51):
so what's under it?
So more storage and in thedrawers right right here, okay,
yeah.
Door there.
Oh sorry, it's supposed to havea pneumatic piston on it.
You can see where it's going tohave two and a button.
It's just not installed, okay,and?

Capn Tinsley (29:13):
then what do we got there?

Darrell Allen (29:14):
Probably access to the bow thruster.
Go ahead and check it out.
Where's the bow thruster?
Alright, so we've got the bowthruster.
We've got the bow thruster.
Batteries Two more batteries.
And all this will get cleaned,it'll all get painted out and
it'll look, you know, like brandnew there's a whole bunch of
controllers and stuff down hereisn't there.

(29:36):
Yeah, yeah, you know, probablycontrollers for the uh furloughs
for the deck.
If you're looking at the boatyou say you know I'd like a
bigger hanging locker and Idon't need a shelf locker, then
you know we can certainly dothat.
I mean we could build it anyway you want.
You know, if you want shelveson here, if you want to take the
head and put a door here andmake a walk-in hanging locker,

(29:59):
you know, for the ladies orthose guys you could do that.
You can make the head of a big, big, walk-in hanging locker.
You know, for the ladies orthose guys you could do that.
You can make the head of a big,big walk-in hanging locker what
are these controls over here?

Capn Tinsley (30:07):
is that heat?

Darrell Allen (30:08):
well, this is the Webasto heater, so we have a
vent coming out in heresomewhere and then this is
obviously just regular outletsand then we do the USB C and A
controls as well and this isactually a little temperature
sensor for the Robasto.
If you buy it as a trawler, this compression post will go
away and we do have aleather-wrapped piece that's

(30:32):
going to go on here, that'sgoing to Velcro on here, so
it'll be basically the sameupholstery that's in the boat
will cover this compression postup.
This is the first deck stepisland packet ever, but we did
that so we could build the boatas a trawler as well.
So if you don't want the mast, you don't have to have the mast.
And obviously, if we don'tsupply the mast and we don't

(30:53):
supply the winches and all thesails, we can build it as a
trawler for even less.
So the way this boat sits righthere, loaded out, as you saw,
with water maker, generator, airconditioning, webasto heater,
she's in the low nines.
So a trawler would even be lessthan that.
How much it would be under nine.
You know $50,000 to $60,000less than the equipment if we

(31:15):
build it as a trawler.

Leslie Allen (31:16):
You know, we haven't built a trawler yet.

Darrell Allen (31:18):
Yeah, yeah, but if you want a trawler, I can
give you a price.
You know this boat is a baseprice at $699.
So they added you know you knowwhat two hundred and you know
twenty-five thousand dollarswith extras.
So the base boat.
You can go sailing, you can gomotoring.
What we call the options isbasically the creature comforts
and electronics, and then thesolar solar.
The boat will have solar on thehardtop, yeah, we're gonna have

(31:39):
walkable panels on the hardtop,yeah.
And then, as I mentioned before, I can't open this with this
door open, but this does open toprovide access to the engine
room.
Was that just a little?

Capn Tinsley (31:51):
bit of a yeah, because down there it looked
like a dead end.
But okay, that's cool.

Darrell Allen (31:54):
Yeah, I want to see, but you'd have to close the
door and then stand against thedoor.

Capn Tinsley (31:58):
I won't make you do it.

Darrell Allen (32:01):
Well, this is all impressive, and you know what,
if you came to us and said youknow what I cruise with my
grandkids, I want a door hereWe'll figure out a way to make a
door.
We could probably make asliding door that would slide
into the guest cabin.
That would slide right out.

Capn Tinsley (32:21):
But then we'd havedle.

Darrell Allen (32:23):
You know.
Bring us your ideas, you know.
Let us know what would make youhappy and we're here to build
your dream boat.
Every Island Packet owner wework with we are very fortunate
to be able to build their dreamboat.

Leslie Allen (32:35):
They usually have experience and know what they've
missed on their last boat.

Darrell Allen (32:40):
All different types.
Tinsley, we have people thatyou know have chartered boats
but never owned a boat but havechartered every make out there.
And you know they retire andthey know they want an island
packet because they know theywant to go cruising and they
want to be safe and they wantgood resale value.
And all of them come with greatideas.
And you know some people likethe traditional island packet
colors of ivory and camel, tan, tan.
But honestly, the the dove grayor graystone and the off-white

(33:04):
is just as popular.
We build about the same amountof boats with maple as we do
with the sapele and now we'regoing to start offering cherry.
So it's really about buildingyour boat.
We only build about 12 boats ayear.
They're all very unique, they're all custom, they're all
pre-sewed and, as I mentionedthe very beginning, we've got
one slot left for the motorsailors at the discounted price.
So give us a call.

(33:25):
We'd love to build your boat.
And, as always, leslie and I'dsay god bless to everybody and
you know, good luck and have funcruising.
