I ricercatori suggeriscono che il virus potrebbe agire direttamente sui vasi sanguigni o attraverso risposte infiammatorie e immunitarie, e sottolineano l'importanza di identificare precocemente chi è a rischio, per prevenire future complicazioni, suggerendo che la vaccinazione possa mitigare tale effetto e che lo stile di vita e i farmaci comuni possano aiutare a gestire l'invecchiamento vascolare accelerato. E' quanto emerge da uno studio pubblicato sull’European Heart Journal, che ha coinvolto 2.390 persone provenienti da 16 paesi diversi (Austria, Australia, Brasile, Canada, Cipro, Francia, Grecia, Italia, Messico, Norvegia, Turchia, Regno Unito e Stati Uniti), reclutate tra settembre 2020 e febbraio 2022.
