Sonia creció escuchando hablar inglés a su mamá y su abuelo, quienes fueron sus primeros maestros del idioma. Gracias a que ellos lo enseñaban, pudo desarrollar rápidamente la habilidad de hablar en ambos idiomas, el español y el inglés. Esto le ayudó a comprender porqué es que a los mexicanos y a los latinos en general, les cuesta tanto aprender este idioma.
Por ello creó Bilingual Cognitive Therapy, un método de enseñanza con el que pretende que cualquiera logre ser bilingue.
