God calls those who receive Christ as their Savior to be holy as He is holy - to be set apart as He is set apart. In the Bible, we see three "phases" in the sanctification of believers - Positional Sanctification, Practical Sanctification, and Perfected Sanctification. This two part series provides a detailed explanation of salvation and sanctification.
