Chandler administrators face potential disciplinary action tied to student complaints of misconduct by former teacher
The administrators who were all employed by Chandler Unified at the time of the complaints by students are facing allegations of unprofessional conduct.
CHANDLER, Ariz. — Five administrators from Chandler Unified School District are facing possible discipline by the state for allegations of unprofessional conduct.
It stems from claims that the administrators failed to properly handle complaints of misconduct by a former teacher.
12News first reported on this story last year, as seven students at Casteel High School in early 2021 said a theater teacher made inappropriate comments and touched them without their consent.
An assistant principal at the time, reprimanded the now-former teacher, Patrick Power, in a letter.
"In your opinion was the letter of direction as a reasonable effort to correct Mr. Power's behavior," An attorney representing the five administrators at the center of the hearing asked of Jeff Filloon, who's listed as the Executive Director for Human Resources at Chandler Unified.
"Yes," Filloon replied.
There were more complaints, and Power was later allowed to retire and surrender his teaching certificate.
While Chandler Unified would not comment on the proceedings Wednesday, the district previously called allegations of mishandling the situation false, saying the district took "swift and decisive action" to involve police and investigate the claims.

The Burden

Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home.
