Microphone (USB Audio CODE (00:00):
Last week.

(00:01):
I sighed when I realized captainMarvel was next on my MCU
rewatch, then watching from thevery beginning.
And when I realized after Ihadn't been in the wasp captain
marveled next, I was like, ah,no.
But the reality is.
This is probably one of the moreintriguing movies to watch on
this list because of the factthat I, if you've listened to my

(00:23):
podcast, I've not been verypositive about this movie.
It was probably the benchmarkfor badness in the MCU for me,
like I truly thought it was oneof the worst things ever along
with Thor, dark world.
And Thor love and thunder.
Which you haven't got to yet, obviously.
And I think.
I'm it must've been three times.

(00:44):
I've tried watching this movieover the years.
And theaters.
And then two times after.
And each time I try to watch it,it just didn't resonate with me.
Even my wife, like we talkedabout it.
In the past.
It's just not something weenjoy.
That's, that's the reality ofit.

Microphone (USB Audio CODEC (00:58):
And I'm about to say something that
I never thought I was going tosay, let me fix my seat.
Got a little comfortable.
Captain Marvel.
Is not the worst thing ever.
Oh, what.
It's just, it's true.
It's not the worst thing ever.
I'm going to do something I'venever done in the entirety of

(01:19):
this rewatch and it's important.
I'm going to tell you now wherecaptain Marvel ranks.
Cause then I need it.
I want to talk about thisafterwards.
Captain Marvel is coming in lastand our MCU power rankings.
But to me, it's in this.
Ballpark of Thor, dark world, anIronman three.
Where they're all kind of equalto me.
But I, I like, I personally likeThor and Ironman, a little

(01:43):
better.
At man, I think it's a stepabove all those, to be honest,
both admins.
Now.
I'm not saying this movie was awork of art.
Uh, I F I put it at the bottomof the rankings for reason, but
it's definitely not as bad as Ikept telling myself over the
years.
I thought the de aging of Colsonand Nick fury was actually

(02:04):
crazy.
Good.
I've seen some horrible D agingsense.
I'm talking about Luke Skywalkerand the Mandalorian.
They did a really good jobthere.
The movie had some really goodvisuals.
Uh, captain Marvel when she'sflying around, which is falling
to earth, looked horrible.
But a lot of the other stuff wasreally well done.
The editing.
The casting choices, thestorylines.

(02:26):
We're really good.
A lot of it was.
Well done.
It was a fun superhero movie.
I don't really connect with.
Carol Danvers, Brie Larson'sportrayal of captain Marvel.
Right now.
I think she was better in themarvels, which again, we'll get
to that in the rewatcheventually.
The person who I thought gavethe best performance was Talos.

(02:47):
Really well done.
Even fury was kind of like, whatever.
Not the best performance.
But towels was exceptional.
And we got to see a baby.
Uh, I forgot her name, thatEmilia Clarke's character.
We got to see a baby version ofher.
So that was cool.
Really love her character.
She did a really good job insecret invasion.
But speaking of secret invasion,This movie kind of makes me.

(03:09):
Observe and see what secretinvasion did wrong because the
scrolls.
You really feel for them.
And I feel like they got kind ofbone by the, by Marvel, you
know, they had a really good.
Arc set up.
Introduced in, in this movie andit kind of went nowhere.
Uh, or at least were a wet.
I didn't really like, so when Isay nowhere, I'm like, it didn't
go in a good direction.

(03:30):
Captain Marvel had action.
It did have some humor.
I really liked the twist thatthe scrolls were actually good
guys.
And the Cree were the bad guys.
It was cool seeing Ronan beforehe would make his appearance in
guardians of the galaxy.
Jude law was pretty good.
I definitely.
Think I was too hard and hard onthat movie in the past.

(03:53):
So I want to apologize for that.
I don't know.
It's just you, you getdisappointed and then you get
sucked in to the mom mentalityof the film.
And cause a lot of people werebashing that film when it came
on.
And I think I got sucked intothat negativity.
That's why I wanted to do thisfor you.
Watch.
I want to watch all these films.
On their own.
And just going with a clear mindand see what I think.

(04:14):
Although, you know, I'm sayingcaptain Marvel got bashed by
people, but it didn't make abillion dollars.
So on a budget of 175 millioncaptain Marvel made 1.1,$3
billion.
That's really good.
But it did get bashed by a lotof people.
I remember the reviews.
Wasn't very good.
And a lot of people bash darkworld.

(04:35):
And a lot of people bash Ironmanthree.
All I'm saying is.
Those movies are, are not thatbad.
Okay.
They're not like Morbius orblack or MME wet.
There's a lesson to be learned.
From this.
Experience of watching captainMarvel again.
Watch a movie before you see thecrowd reaction or read the crowd

(04:58):
reaction, go watch a movie.
Don't look at the scores.
Don't look at the onlinereaction.
Don't hear what anybody has tosay.
Watch the movie once andformerly your own opinion on it,
because it's very easy to getsucked into that mob mentality.
That negativity.
I don't even let myself getsucked into it as much as other
people.
But I still feel like that'swhat happened here.

(05:18):
And captain Marvel's case.
I guess some time I washed onits own and I had a good time.
I enjoyed captain Marvel.
If you told mark savvy firm of2019, Hey bro, you're actually
kinda kind of enjoy this movie.
He would think you're crazy.
Honestly, I can't even rememberwhat I ate for breakfast this
morning.
I don't know where I was in mylife in 2019.

(05:40):
Maybe I was in a negative headspace when I saw it.
And then I associated.
That movie with that maybe I gotyelled at by my boss or
something who knows?
You, you have a negativeexperience.
You go see a movie and sometimesyou associated with that.
Even if it's subconsciously, Idon't know what happened, but I
know that I did not like captainMarvel.
And I did not like it insubsequent viewings, but I like

(06:01):
it now.
But it's still like, not thatgood.
I just, I'm just saying it's notthe worst thing ever.
I just think sometimes opinionsevolve, you know, sometimes we
change.
You can't say that someone has,and I don't, people are going to
harsh on me for saying I liked,or you just change your mind.
Bro you, you changed as aperson.
Okay.
People change.

(06:21):
So yeah.
Opinions are going to change.
I'm a different person now thanI was 15 years ago.
If I saw a movie I liked 15years ago, maybe I don't like it
now.
I'm 32 years old.
I'm married.
I have two amazing dogs.
I'm a different person.
It's crazy how much my life haschanged in the five years.
The only five years, I feel likea lot of us changed a lot from

(06:42):
COVID.
You know, it was a really crazytime.
my opinion on this next moviewon't change though.
We'll be watching Avengers andgame.
The culmination of the infinitySaget is coming up next.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
