Microphone (USB Audio CO (00:00):
What's up everybody mark savvy here.
I think it's time we give blackwidow, her flowers, sister,
daughter Aventure and to somefans, mother.
Black winter was a really fun.
Exciting movie.
I wasn't particularly.
Engaged.
In the storyline per se, like, Iwouldn't say the villain, you

(00:21):
didn't really see him much.
It was more him as a.
What he did as a concept.
The mind control, all thatstuff.
So, but yeah, there wasn'treally this opening, this
continuous dialogue with himthroughout the movie that makes
you really.
Or at least it would make mefeel more engaged with him as a
villain, but he was still aterrifying villain.
And sometimes that does work.

(00:42):
Black was an interesting movieto cover because it came out at
a really weird time.
People were just getting out ofCOVID.
We weren't sure if.
You know, if the movie.
Going experience is going toever be the same.
The studios weren't even sure iftheir moods would still make
money.
I think it came out July 9th.
2021.
And the thing that was superinteresting, but I don't think

(01:05):
they've done it since, as themovie came out site
simultaneously on a Disney plusand in theaters.
Which is why I think.
It didn't do as well as, uh,probably Marvel would have
hoped.
What's astonishing to me isblack widow had a budget of$288
million.

(01:25):
That's crazy.
How does Blackwood off such abig budget?
The box office was superunderwhelmed.
It was only 380 million.
You could classify that as abomb by their standards.
I don't know it was, it was postCOVID.
One of the first.
Like COVID really, I think.
Screwed up Marvel's, uh, plans, what their TV universe and their
movies.

(01:45):
I think a lot of stuff gotshuffled around, like the way.
Was released.
Maybe that's what contributed, like it's in the last episode to
the kind of dysfunction we'reseeing in there.
MCU now.
But yeah, black widow didn't dowell.
I'm sure the Disney plus releasesimultaneously contribute to it.
Why would people go to thetheaters?
For like it's 15 bucks a personjust go watch in your living

(02:09):
room with your friends or yourbubble at the time.
And you'd be fine.
I don't know, maybe they shouldhave postponed it.
My plan of Marvel waiting fiveyears.
What have been the best becauseit would have pushed them
through the COVID years.
Would it give people time tobreathe?
There's too much Marvel, Marvelput out too much at the worst
time.
I know phase three had 11properties and I think phase

(02:32):
four only had eight, but it was,I think it was more the timing
of it.
We didn't have enough.
Space between these two phasesfor people to kind of.
Take a break from it.
And now like, I don't know.
After secret wars, they reallyshould do a long break.
It's what's best for thefranchise.
Black widow also introduced thenew black widow Yelina.

(02:52):
Um, I thought Julina was so goodin this movie.
Red guardian was hilarious.
Rachel Wise's character.
Her character was great.
This whole dysfunctional familythey had from.
You lean on Natasha Alexa, who'sred guardian Molina, who is
Rachel Wise's character of thecast opening up.
So that's how I know they wereall really when Sebastian, Stan

(03:15):
and Jeremy, why are they in thecast?
I'm just looking at the cast.
And I just got sidetrackedbecause they're not in the
movie.
I don't know why.
Even Tom Hiddleston and ChuckBozeman are in this What black
widow was fighting against inthis movie was the mind
controlled that.
The red room was able to create.
Cause she thought she destroyedit and Budapest, which you hear
a lot about in the MCU, but shenever ended up doing it.

(03:36):
He, the guy survived.
He was in the sky the whole timeand he got even more, he got
like legit mind control thatpeople before, I guess she was
able to break out, but this islike chemical.
Mind controlling it until theyshoot something in your brain
and you, there's nothing you cando about it until the spray
comes in.
And that's where, uh, Julina thenew black widow comes in.

(03:57):
She gets the spray and she triesto find a Tasha.
They find each other, they bothagree to take down the red room.
That's the plot of the movie.
With the help of their family.
Task master was really cool.
The only thing with taskmaster.
I think one of the reasons I wasdisappointed when I originally
watched the movie was because Ithought she was going to be
somebody else.
And it was kind of.
I thought it was a weak reveal,but honestly, it's a pretty dope

(04:21):
reveal.
This movie had a very strongemotional elements to it.
Even though I wasn't connectedto the villain.
What I did feel.
Um, Drawn to like whatinterested in me.
I mean, Was that emotional, theemotional stakes that they felt
throughout the movie, thebeginning.
When they play.

(04:42):
Smells like teen spirit likethat.
That was phenomenal.
The best opening, one of thebest openings in any Marvel
movie.
I still listened to that song toget me in the mood for a writing
when I'm writing a script orworking on my novel.
It's incredible.
It's such a dope song.
It's such a dope openingsequence.
They're kidnapping girls orthey're going through the red

(05:04):
room.
Like it's crazy.
And when.
Natasha.
It needs to get out and she endsup killing the daughter and the
Donna's being taskmaster.
That was crazy.
She felt so horrible for whatshe had to do, but she felt like
she needed to get out.
It's going back to thoseemotional stakes.
Like they're so high in thismovie.
Even Yelina she feels likebetrayed by her sister.

(05:25):
Like, why didn't you.
Like come get me that Tashadidn't feel like they were
sisters.
Then at the end, she apologizesfor everything.
I think black, widow's gotta beone of the best movies for that.
It really surprised me.
I've been surprised so manytimes in this free watch.
Holy.
Now let's go through therankings and I'll see who.

(05:45):
Also I'll find out whereBlackwood a lands.
Sorry.
If I'm a little off today, Ikind of had a pack attack on
something I did not sleep.
So black widow is better thancaptain Marvel is better than
Ironman three.
Um, Is it better than Thor, darkworld.
I'm going to say no.
So black widow will come in atnumber 21 on our MCU power

(06:06):
rankings.
Ahead of Ironman three andcaptain Marvel.
Yeah, I really liked it.
It had, like I said, those greatsteaks.
But there's just a lot of goodmovies here.
I find that.
Like even the worst movies, which are these last few ones,
like Ironman.
Dark world.
Um, iron man again.
Captain Marvel.

(06:27):
I find even the worst ones, Istill really enjoyed.
But yeah, I just.
These are my personal rankings.
I enjoyed the other movies aheadof it.
More.
So it's going to have to come inat number 21.
Ooh, you know, what's coming upnext week.
Shonky and the legend of the 10ranks.
I can't wait to watch it withyou.
Thanks for listening to anotherepisode of savvy geeks.

(06:48):
