We are back with another season of
Savvy Geeks.
Yes, yes, yes.
We took a brief hiatus, asusual, for 2025.
But we're coming back with abang to talk about Mickey 17.
I was absolutely blessed to beable to see this movie early on

When it comes out, Yep.

I got invited to an earlyscreening at the Scotiabank
Theatre in Toronto.
Now, with that being said, I amnot allowed to go into details
about the movie.
It's a strict no no.
So there will be absolutely nospoilers in this episode.

What I do want to do How,though, is just gush about this
film because I absolutely lovedit.
I'm not saying it's like Dune IIor anything, but it was a really
fun sci fi action comedy fromBong Joon ho.
Let me make sure I said thatright so I don't get cancelled.
Yes, Bong Joon ho, the directorbest known for Parasite.

I believe this is his firstEnglish film.
Please let me know in thecomments if it isn't.
And also, I would like you tolet me know if there's any
movies of his that yourecommend.
This is my first film I've everseen from his.
I, I typically don't like movieswith, uh, subtitles.
I don't like to read subtitles.
I will make an exception,though, for this guy.

I hear he's just one of the bestdirectors out there and I want
to give him a solid chance.
So, I guess I'll see Parasite.
I know this isn't directed byhim, but I want to see Squid
Game, because it's another, it'sa show that a lot of people were
talking about, and I feel likeI'm limiting myself by not
seeing more stuff withsubtitles.
It's not my favorite thing,it'll never be my favorite

can see more works of art.
Heh heh.
The premise for Mickey 17, forthose of you who may not know,,
Robert Pattinson's character,Mickey, he talks like this.
This is how Mickey talks in thefilm.
I think I did a good job, let meknow if you've seen if I did a
good job talking like Mickey.

Super funny guy.
Mickey 17, leaves Earth.
Uh, and signs up as a, uh, Ithink it's called Expendable, if
I remember correctly.
Basically, he, they go to thisplanet Nilfheim, uh, he's this
Expendable, and as you see inthe trailer, he's constantly
dying and getting, in, inhilarious and crazy ways to help
the scientists better understandthe planet.

That's the gist of it.
What really surprised me, I justwasn't expecting it at all.
Like, in the trailer it lookedsilly, but like At the same
time, like, I assumed it wasgoing to be a really serious sci
fi drama.
It was super funny.
Like, I would say it's almostmore funny than it was serious,
if that makes sense?
I don't know, I guess like asolid 50 50, but it had a lot of

comedic elements to it.
Like, and Robert Pattinson,playing all these different
Mickeys, as you know, like, hekeeps dying and coming back.
He plays different versions ofhimself and he is so good at
playing these different Roleslike the subtle differences that
he has to describe Or convey Imean he does it's such a good

job by him like when he was thebatman he was able to Do such a
good job showing Uh, the kind ofemotions of Batman and the cow
because you couldn't see hiseyes.
You could really only see hismouth and you still got a really
good sense of how Batman wasfeeling.
Robert Pattinson is a reallygood physical actor.

And I thought that was ondisplay in this movie.
One thing I do want to let youknow is, if you're going to
watch it, you should stay forthe after credits.
Because a text will appear thatsays, Mickey17 will appear again
in Avengers Doomsday.
Yep, that's right, you heard ithere first.
Ah, no, psych, psych, psych.

They know Bong Joon ho betterthan me.
They said that it's something hewould do, like they wouldn't be
surprised.
Mickey17 on the Savvy Meter willscore, 82 out of 100.
Which, to me, is really, reallyhigh.
All I know is this movie made melaugh.

It made me think.
And it made me feel, aww, aww,steve Young, I don't really, I
don't really see him in muchstuff outside of The Walking
Dead.
Like, I loved him in Nope, Iloved him in Season 1 of
Invincible, and that's about it.
Let me know if there's anythingelse you think I should check
out by him.
He did a really good job.
I love Naomi Ackie's performancein this film.

She was so good and blinkedtwice.
I Didn't know I know anythingabout her before blinked twice,
but that was a great performanceand it carried over into Mickey
17 Robert Pattinson Obviously,like, he's amazing.
They were asking some questions,some trivia questions before the
movie and I made so many Batmanjokes but I couldn't help

myself.
I just, I'm just a shithead.
What do I know?
What can I do?
Tony Collette and Mark Ruffaloplayed the they were like the
heads of this expedition.
I thought Mark Ruffalo andRobert Pattinson were the kind
of comedic pillars of the film.
They were what brought the mosthumor.
Mickey 17 was just a delightfulwatch.

That's, that's really the bestway to describe it.
Without getting everybody mad atme, I had so much fun in the
theater.
I, it was a little unfortunate.
My wife couldn't come lastminute, but I.
I, I, I, I was by myself, but Istill had a good time.
I wanna thank Warner Bros forhaving this special early
screening.
They were a great host.

The people there were so great.
They called out everyone.
Mickey who got free shirts, acool hat.
It was just a great time.
I, I want to go to more ofthese, so hopefully I get
invited more.
Don't go see Mickey 17 with yourkids, but if you're an adult or
your kid's over the age of 18,you should go see it.
Now let's talk about what I'mgoing to do going forward.

I won't be able to post episodesas frequently as I would like
because I'm in film school andit's just a lot.
I gotta focus on my uh, scripts.
I'm writing a lot of scripts.
I'm finishing my novel.
I know I keep saying that, butit's just been such a laboring
process.
I, I'm going through like areread now and making changes.
I just have a lot going onprofessionally and I, I really

want to focus on that, but I'lltry to find the time to put as
many episodes as I can.
I'll put a Captain Americaepisode out with Jen.
Uh, when I see Superman, I'llobviously put that episode out.
I'm actually gonna Australiaand.
A few weeks.
I'm in Australia and NewZealand.
I think it'd be really cool todo a episode live on location in
the Shire.

'cause I'm doing a live tour.
Uh, it'd be pretty sweet, right?
Would you guys like to hear medo that or see?
'cause it's gonna be a visual.
Yeah, even though I won't beable to put as many episodes
this year, I'm so excited to beback in whatever capacity I can.
I'd also like to do a lostrewatch.
If I can find time for that,it's gonna be a fun year.

I'm going for it.
You know, like this has been mydream to be a screenwriter, to
write the stories that I keeptalking about, and I'm finally
going for it.
I don't think I would have hadthe courage to go for it if it
wasn't for all the great peoplein my life that supported me.
