In this episode, Leslie Maloney, author, educator, and host of the podcast, Meaning And Moxie After 50, and I have a wide ranging discussion about podcasting, motherhood, embracing help, self-improvement, authenticity, examining our expectations, and intuition. Leslie shares that her desire to be a better role model for her children prompted her to look deeper into self-exploration and personal growth, and that as she’s gotten older, she doesn’t have to work as much to lessen the negative thoughts and stories that hold her back. While there is still a need to be aware of them, it doesn’t require so much effort to keep them at bay.
Take Aways
1. Make it all fun
2. Question the negative stories in your head and ask if they are really true – most of the time they aren’t
3. Allow the fearful part of you to be heard, rather than resisting it. When we’re heard we feel validated and there is an energy release, and then integration
4. It’s important to be in community with people who are growing and want to see you grow
5. Don’t be a fixer when someone is talking to you about themselves and what they have going on, be a supporter and validator
6. Important things for our growth – new experiences, self-reflection, self-care, community, asking for help, learning new things, authenticity, validation, tuning into your intuition
7. Examine your expectations of how you think it’s supposed to look and how you think it’s supposed to be. Is it realistic? Where did it come from?
8. Let go of competition, judgment, and comparison. Let everyone have their experience and be ok with it
9. Listen to your intuition, it does not steer you wrong
10. Listen to and trust your heart, there is great wisdom there
