Burnout doesn’t always arrive with alarms; sometimes it shows up as a quiet hum you can’t shut off. After a month of travel, speaking, and back-to-back calls, we hit that wall—then chose a spontaneous drive to Cambria, California that turned into a masterclass in resetting the mind and reigniting the heart. Sunset over green hills, a Christmas market lit like a storybook, a sunrise beach walk, and two hours without a phone did what no productivity hack could: it gave us a clean break and a clearer way forward.

We unpack why entrepreneurs struggle to power down on Fridays and how that unfinished business bleeds into family time. The solution isn’t more grit; it’s an environmental switch that tells your nervous system to let go. We break down a simple framework to find your happy place—beach, woods, or even a device-free movie night—and turn it into a weekly ritual. You’ll learn how nature, movement, and focus on your people create rapid state change, bringing gratitude and presence back online fast.

From there, we draw a straight line between strong relationships and sustainable growth. When your partner feels supported and your kids feel seen, your stress baseline drops and your creativity climbs. That energy compounds on Monday: clearer decisions, better delegation, and renewed excitement for the goals God put on your heart. We talk about designing a life where you can scale your business without starving your home, writing goals that measure impact and income alongside presence, and choosing spaces that keep you inspired for the long run.

If you’re building hard and want your life to feel as good as your wins look, this one is for you. Subscribe for more practical strategies, share this with a friend who needs a reset, and leave a review with your favorite weekend ritual so we can all learn from each other.

stressed out, burnt out.
Maybe you're growing a business,maybe you're raising kids, and
you just don't always feel theway you want to feel.
Now, chances are it's becauseyou're overwhelmed and stressed
out.
A lot of people go through that, especially if you're growing a
business and you have family andyou have a million things you're
doing each and every day.
So I want to talk to you abouthow to rejuvenate yourself, how

(01:12):
to make sure you're alwaysshowing up with gratitude at a
high level and you're inspiredto keep going after those big
goals God put on your heart.
This has been a busy month forme.
We're in December 2025.
I traveled two different times, once to Marco Island, Florida
for a week, and then Vegas forthree days, both for speaking
events and business conferences.
And in between those events, Iwas taking time off to do

(01:34):
Christmas stuff with the family.
Um we took the kids on a three,four-hour drive down to Southern
California to do the PolarExpress.
Um, and we were just all overthe place.
And so I was inconsistent, mytypical workflow.
I was traveling, it was just alot going on.
And last week I had a week whereI was just jam-packed eight to

(01:55):
twelve hours a day, doing Zoomcalls, doing coaching calls,
team calls, all this stuff torun my business, unstoppable
365.
And I remember Friday came and Iwas like, dude, I'm I'm just
ready to take a break from thislaptop and this phone.
You know, I just felt like likeit was a lot, it was more than I
normally do.
So I made a spontaneous decisionto surprise my wife and kids and

(02:17):
drive two hours up north toCambria because I had seen they
had something called theChristmas market.
I think that's what it's called.
It's in Cambria, California.
If you haven't had a chance tocheck it out, I highly suggest
you do so.
What they what they do is theycreate um something that's
similar to how they celebrateChristmas in Germany with
outdoor vendors and an outdoormarket place, and it's really

(02:37):
cool.
And they decked everything outwith all these amazing Christmas
lights.
So there's all these trails andpaths and places you could walk
around, and everything is justcovered in Christmas lights
everywhere.
And they had Santa's littleworkshop, and he was in there,
and the kids got to go see him.
Um, and it was just a really funtime for the family.
I'm always trying to bespontaneous and take the kids
and my wife to do things that Iknow are exciting for them and

(02:59):
that we're spending timetogether.
Uh so we drove up there Friday, right when I finished all my
Zoom calls.
We took the kids out of school, drove up there, and we stayed in
Cambria for the night.
And Cambria, California is atown of about 6,000 people.
It's in Central California, andit was so beautiful driving up
there.
All I saw was like these rollinghills covered in greenery,
right?

(03:19):
It had rained recently, everything's green and lush and
beautiful, and the sunset is,you know, right in front of us
as we're driving up there, andI'm seeing just all these
beautiful mountains and theocean.
And it put me in such a tranquilstate.
You know, I had about two and ahalf hours of driving after work
where I'm not on my phone, we'relistening to music, all the kids
were behaving really well.
Me and my wife were just hangingout talking.

(03:40):
Um, and then we did theChristmas lights that night and
woke up the next day and did asunrise beach walk.
And we're walking out there onthe beach, we're hearing the
waves crashing, the kids areplaying in the waves, running
around.
We just had a really, reallyamazing time.
And I felt so rejuvenated and sopeaceful.
And so what I realized, and thisis the message for you business
owners, you can relate to this.

(04:01):
Sometimes when Friday comes,it's very difficult to just shut
your mind off.
You've been making high-leveldecisions all day long,
executing efficiently,delegating, being decisive,
making your money, running yourbusiness, like serving your
customers.
It's really hard when Fridayevening comes to just turn that
off.
Like if you're a business ownerand you're obsessed with
potential and purpose like I am,it's very hard to shut that off

(04:24):
ever.
And so for me, I'm alwaysseeking to be present with my
wife and kids and to do thingsthat help facilitate that shift
mentally and in my energy.
And what I mean by that is onFriday evening, maybe or
afternoon, we go to the park ordo a beach walk.
For me, it's getting out innature, getting out in nature.
I'm away from my phone, I'mwatching my kids play, I'm

(04:45):
connected with my wife.
And what that does for mespiritually and energetically,
it puts me in such a state ofgratitude and so much peace.
And I'm able to turn off thenoise of my business life and
the business world and bepresent in the moment.
And so going up to Cambria, Ifelt that instantly.
Usually it's a transition intoSaturday morning, Saturday for
me at least, to be able to getinto family mode and just feel

(05:06):
that presence and be peaceful.
And then you turn it back onagain Monday, right?
And so it's like this ebb andflow of energy.
And I talk to a lot of businessowners, and it's hard for them
to be present at home becausethey're carrying all those
decisions and the weight ofgrowing their business and the
financial stress and everythingthat goes into it into their
home life.
And so, what I'd suggest to youguys is you got to find
somewhere that's your happyplace.

(05:27):
For you, it might be the beachlike me, it might be hiking out
in the woods.
I don't know, it might just be afamily movie night or a game
night or something that allowsyou to get present in the
moment.
For me, when I get out in natureand I'm with my kids and my
wife, instantly, I go from beingon overdrive and just goal
obsessed and focused on runningmy business to present in the
moment and nothing else in theworld matters.

(05:49):
I love that feeling because I'mnever going to be that guy that
looks back and goes, oh gosh, Igrew this huge company and made
all this money, but I wasn'tthere for my family.
I hear that story all the timeand it breaks my heart when
other business owners share withme their experiences.
This is some of the work and abig part of the work I do with
the clients I mentor is helpingthem to create a life by design

(06:09):
where they can show up at a highlevel for their family and in
their business, and everybodywins.
And so I fell in love withCambria, California.
My goal is to buy a vacationhome up there now so that we can
have getaways whenever we want.
It's two hours away.
I can go up there every weekendif I want.
Friday after school with thekids, we go up there until
Sunday night, right?
And so it's really important.
If you want to continue to growand make money and scale your

(06:32):
business, you continuously workon your development as a person.
You continuously pour into yourmarriage.
You continuously focus onshowing up at a high level for
your children.
Because the moment thoserelationships or that part of
your life starts to becomecompromised or subpar, it's
going to spill over into thebusiness.
It's going to affect yourmentality.
You're going to start to feelburnt out more.

(06:52):
You're going to get overwhelmedby stress.
You're not going to feel asinspired and as excited about
your life.
But if you can pour into yourwife and kids and you
consistently rejuvenate yourselfby getting in those environments
that are tranquil, tranquil, that are peaceful, that just
naturally push you into beingpresent.
Dude, you'll bring so muchinspiration into business.
You'll continue to grow and getexcited about what you're doing

(07:13):
every day till the day you die.
The goal is that every day youwake up, you have inspiration
and gratitude on your heart insuch a way that's undeniable.
And you look around and you go,yeah, this is the life I always
wanted.
This is the life by design thatGod put on my heart.
I wouldn't change a thing.
We're always a work in progress,you guys.
But if you have this high levelof awareness and you're willing
to do the work, it's amazingwhat you can create in your
life.
My hope for each and every oneof you this year in 2026 is you

(07:36):
make more money than you everhave, you change and impact more
lives than you ever have.
And you're the most present, loving, best father and husband
you have ever been in your life.
I want you to write those goalsdown.
I want you to do the workrequired, and let's go out
together and make this the bestyear of our lives.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
