Speaker 2 (00:29):
Hey everyone, welcome
back to Second Immolation
Podcast, the show where we diveinto the latest anime news and
reviews.
I'm Sean, your host, and todaywe're going to be talking about
Crunchyroll's lineup for Spring2025 anime season Plus.
I'll be sharing my anime listwatch list with you so you can
follow along with us and seewhat shows I'm watching and if
(00:50):
you have any recommendations, you can also just ping us on
there and I'm excited to do abreakdown of new shows, hidden
gems and what you should beadding to your watch list.
So let's get into it.
This season, crunchyroll isactually going to be pretty much
stacked.
There's going to be somerecurring animes that are
continuing into the spring andsome new ones.
(01:11):
This is including Fire ForceSeason 3, which is a highly
anticipated sequel orcontinuation of Fire Force
Season 2, which is, for thosewho might not know, a little bit
, theorycraft happens to be theprecursor for soul eater and I'm
excited for this.
(01:32):
This season, having just comingoff solo leveling season two, I
am very much looking and hungryfor a new anime, some recurring
ones and maybe some new onesthat I never really thought I'd
be watching.
So let's dive into it.
(01:53):
Overall, this season, we'reactually looking at a mixed
blend of isekai's fantasy alongwith some slice of life and some
comedy.
So normally for those forprevious seasons the ratio kind
of is a little skewed.
When it comes to anime we get alot more isekais and comedies
and slice of lives.
(02:13):
Really are they really don'thit as they normally do.
This one is a very, very goodmix blend as we're not getting
so much isekais where it's likeI died, I was reincarnated as a
x, y and z type of creature, because god only knows that some
(02:35):
of those type of animes orisekais can get boring pretty
quickly and I myself have A goodchunk of isekais and because
they have that fantasy Genre tothem.
A good one that I feel Is myfavorite so far has been Jobless
(02:58):
reincarnation and I want to sayOverlord, and also, which I'm
excited is for the next season, will be Shield Hero Rising,
season 4.
But for those who are unfamiliar, isekai's are just essentially
(03:18):
fantasy-type novels where themain character dies or he's
transported into a fantasy-typeworld.
Sometimes they're coupled with, like him, some kind of harem
where he just has a party ofjust all females, and they do
these type of animes by don't bythe dime of a dozen.
(03:40):
So every season there's like ayou know, a collection of new
isekais.
Some people call them isekaislosh because they're just so
easy to do the template and thetrope just write themselves, and
so you get a whole bunch ofthose like one shots in the mix
with like good quality anime.
I feel like this season isgonna have a lot for everyone,
(04:05):
as they're going to be maybelike a good chunk of reoccurring
anime that I feel like ifyou've been keeping track with
it, you'll probably justcontinue and excited for the
next season.
But it does have a lot ofpotential because there's a lot
(04:27):
of animes that get their firstshot like it within a season and
, based on the good reception, they either are green lit for a
season two and you normally getthat a lot the ones that keep
reoccurring already have afoundation and a fan base behind
it and so they're justessentially they're not really
going anywhere.
They're just continuing theirseasons and it's very hard to
(04:48):
find like a good jam, one that'sgoing to be ongoing, that
doesn't really already have afan base.
I did mention that there were alot of isekais this this time
around, I believe, with sololeveling ending.
What we're seeing now is justmore of a continuation of anime
(05:11):
that have already been simulcastfile.
Fire force is essentially asequel, but it's continuing.
We're also seeing ronniekenshin continuing just a pad to
keep the masses engaged and towhet the appetite.
We're seeing a spinoff seriesof my hero academia, which, for
those who are ben jones in forthe next season, this will help
(05:35):
whet your appetite for thatanime, for that my, for the my
academia hero fix that you'vebeen looking for, because I know
a lot of fans have been likecraving that type of content
since it ended and anything theycan get their hands on would
surely satisfy and sate theirhunger.
(05:57):
Now I want to spotlight threeanimes that I just deep dived
into for the spring season, forthis year, and there's there's
three that stood out to me thatare sports anime, correction.
(06:30):
This anime that I caught my eyeI did see some marketing for it
and it intrigued me because Iwill premise it is a form of
isekai, but it's not like thetype of isekai that I was
expecting.
And this is going to be thebeginning.
After the end, this is anaction adventure, fantasy, an
(06:53):
original series from studio acat.
The story follows a mysteriousdeath.
King gray is reborn as arthurlewin on the magical continent
of decathin.
Although he enters his secondlife as a baby, his previous
wisdom remains.
He begins to master magic andform, forge his own path as
(07:18):
years go by, by seeking tocorrect the mistakes of his past
life.
Now, just by reading that alonethat kind of like Off the
glance You're thinking, okay,it's just your normal isekai,
the same template, and I wouldhave to say To an extent, yes,
(07:40):
but I think what differentiatesthis From any other isekai Is
that the main character Was inhis own fantasy type world, the.
The character who who becomesarthur lewin.
He is actually a king in afantasy type world, sci-fi
(08:02):
fantasy type world where theyuse swords and have assassins,
and so it's kind of weirdbecause you're seeing through
flashbacks of his life prior hewas a dictator and and
performing mass genocide andcolonization and for him to
(08:24):
corrupt, die and be brought backinto the world where he has
none of those advantages in hislife.
Very interesting.
The story is a little bitconfusing just because they
don't know what they want to bein animation.
I want to say the animation canbe a little bit under deserving
(08:46):
at times when it comes toaction, and I know people over
social media have given thisanime a lot of hate, kind of
like the blue lock season 2 hasgot with their animation, and I
want to preface this thatsometimes the animation studios
can be overworked and underpaidand in order to push out content
(09:12):
for us to consume can betroubling, but for this anime,
the for the height that it got,I can see it being destroyed as
a result of this, because thereare people who want to petition
to get another studio to take upthe animation and do I believe
(09:36):
it will succeed?
Probably not.
Will it succeed?
Probably not, but I just wantto set people's expectations for
this anime that you are goingto get some weird animation.
I think, being a longtime animefan myself, is that if you like
the story, you can endurewatching this.
(09:56):
Drown out the noise of peoplesaying that this is shitty.
It's still an enjoyable anime.
It has a good story.
I'm hoping that this is onethat will get picked up for a
season two, but who knows, it'salready it's.
It looks good, but I'm I'mwaiting to see and want to see
(10:19):
what comes of it.
All right, so my second animepick that I've noticed is going
to be my Hero Academia,vigilantes.
This is an action, fantasy, adventure and sci-fi.
The story follows Koichi, whois a dull college student who
(10:40):
aspires to be a hero but hasgiven up on his dream.
Although 80% of the world'spopulation has superhuman powers
called Quirks, few are chosento become heroes and protect
people, while everything changesfor Koichi when he and a pop
step saved by the vigilanteknuckle duster get recruited to
(11:02):
become vigilantes themselves.
Yeah, that's.
The analysis is weird.
At the end I was trying to haveto do a double take to figure
out like what that meant, butthis is one that I feel like is
highly anticipated when it wasannounced and just seeing more
content for it to promote it.
(11:24):
This is your series to jump ontoif you're looking for any my
hero academia content.
Now, vigilantes do exist in myhero.
They're not on the, they're notso much in the spotlight as
people who have quirks, but thenyou would think of them as like
(11:45):
ground level type heroes likeyour daredevils and your loot
cages.
They are more on that ground.
They don't.
They're not superhuman by anysense, but they normally get the
job done.
Think of them like youreveryday batmans or batmans and
robins.
I know that's a wrongcomparison to use, but I just
(12:09):
want to get set the stage andthe expectations that this anime
is not going to be likefocusing on the characters that
we know, but a new core ofcharacters that hopefully people
will love.
Now it is looks like it's takenon the same animation style as
my hero and I think this isgoing to be very interesting.
(12:31):
This is from what I've heardand read, that this whole series
, the manga, has been alreadycompleted for my Hero Originates
, so we could get a continuationwhen the season's done if it
has a good following, and Ibelieve that any type of my Hero
content is going to be verygood.
(12:55):
Finally, my third anime is goingto be Fire Force, season 3.
So this is going to becontinuing.
Tokyo's burning and thecitizens are mysteriously
suffering from spontaneous humancombustion all throughout the
city.
Responsible for snuffing outthis inferno as a fire force,
(13:15):
and Shinran is ready to join thefight Now as a part of the
campaign eight, he'll use hisdevil footprints to help keep
the city from turning to ash,but his past and burning secret
behind the scenes could seteverything ablaze.
Now this is a continuation ofan anime fire force which only
(13:37):
had two seasons and then justnever continued.
It had a brute.
A brute, an immediate likecliffhanger type, and season
finale 2, which alluded to itsconnection to soul eater.
And, for those who don't know, there's actually been
(13:58):
confirmation from the producerand creator that this is in the
same universe and is a preludeto Soul Eater.
So that is very exciting andI'm very interested to see how
the season is going to play out.
A lot of fire force fans arerejoicing because anything where
(14:21):
they can continue the storylineis much needed.
I feel like things weren't leftoff and a lot of cliffhangers
were set in the season two, sohopefully we get a true type of
conclusion with the third seasongoing forward.
Now.
What I also found is, I believeto be some hidden gems are
(14:45):
actually going to be under theradar.
One is going to be an animecalled catch me at the ballpark.
This is gonna follows asynopsis read.
To escape his heart tiring job,the weary murata finds escape
at the nearby baseball stadium.
While the games are thrilling, hits ryuko, the gairu, as cold
(15:11):
as beer she serves, but secretlya sweetheart who keeps him
coming back as a first regular.
Marata discovers the warmthbehind her frothy demeanor and
their hilarious heartwarmingencounters light up the ballpark
, maybe even their hearts.
So this is like a comedy slashromance.
(15:33):
It's also like a sports anime.
The main character isessentially a concession stand
person at the ballpark.
Who's who serves beer?
Now, it's interesting becausethere's always a sports anime
that comes out, and this is, Ithink, a unique take.
(15:56):
Though it is, I guess you cancall it a sports anime, but it
doesn't really focus on sports.
It focuses on the people whocome to enjoy the sports and the
concession stands of the peoplewho serve the drinks, and I
thought it was really coolbecause I ended up finding out
that the female character whoserves beer this actually does
(16:23):
exist in Japan, where they the Iguess I can call them beer
girls carry backpacks of likebeer that they can dispense from
their gun, from a gun, and thenthey put into a cup for you,
and so that's something I didnot know and I learned.
(16:43):
I was like, oh, that'sinteresting, more convenient
than you getting handed a beercan and they have to carry that
with them.
Nope, they just carry abackpack.
That's all set up for them todispense beer with their little
dispensing gun, and I found thatvery interesting.
(17:04):
The second hidden gem, I think,is going to be a hero x, which
is a action and fantasy.
The story follows in a world ofbrilliant heroes.
It is the trust of the fansthat turn heroes into
superheroes.
If a hero loses the people'strust, they lose their special
(17:24):
abilities.
Trust value is collected, quantified and used to determine
a hero's ranking displaying ontheir wrist.
Every two years, the top heroesgo to a tournament to fight to
determine new trust values andearn their ranking.
I feel like this is going to bean interesting watch because the
(17:45):
concept is very different thananything I've seen and it does
also tap into something newwhere it's essentially the
belief that in your herocontrary to, like my hero,
academia, where everyone wantsto be and they trust, they put
(18:07):
their faith in in to be a hero xthat essentially what's
happening.
To quantify, to become a heroand gain your abilities the fans
had them essentially have tomanifest you into existence and
truly believe and ascent.
(18:28):
You are that construct of theirbelief and what you do.
So your abilities hinge on theperception of the people around
you and their faith in you andtheir trust.
I think that's a veryinteresting concept approach
(18:50):
being a superhero and justseeing how you could be in the.
You could be in the midst ofsaving someone and all of a
sudden bloop, your power goesaway because people just don't
believe in you anymore.
That is truly harsh and againit's an interesting take, very,
(19:11):
I want to say.
It's the opposite of my Heroand everything that show has
built the grounds on for likecharacters like All Might, like
characters like all might.
So I feel like the this one isgoing to fly under the radar for
a lot of people who are goingto look at it.
Oh, it's just another superhero.
(19:31):
I digress.
I feel like you should givethis a chance.
I'm looking forward to watchingit and I think you should be
too, if you're into, like youknow, also looking for like my
hero type.
I feel like this can fill thevoid a bit and also provide a
new perspective on somethingthat's never been done in anime,
(19:54):
I feel, for the superhero genre.
Now, I mentioned in thebeginning of the episode that I
will be doing an introduction tomy anime watch list and I will.
So we I've created or have inmy anime watch list, which I'll
be providing the link in theepisode description for all
(20:19):
animes that we review or that Iwatch, and you can follow along
and provide recommendations andwe can even engage and have
conversations along in regardsto different anime and you can
see where we're at for anime andthe ones that I mentioned in
this episode I'm actually goingto add to my watch list, and so
(20:43):
fire force is going to be,season three will be added.
I'm going to be watching thebeginning at the end and I think
, catch me at the ballpark guys,I'll be watching as well.
I think all of them I'llactually be watching.
They'll be on my anime list.
(21:04):
Now, the reason for creating ananime watch list is that before
I used to create lists throughcrunchyroll and that wasn't
really I find useful, becauseonly me and my partner could
utilize that and there is no wayto share my list with anyone.
(21:25):
So I feel, as part of myinitiative to try something new
and maybe do set up and do watchalongs for those who might be
interested in doing an animewatch along, this might be the
best approach and maybe not evena watch along.
Maybe you want to see what I'mwatching.
You'll be able to see that andreview all anime that I have
(21:50):
seen or going to see and, if youhave recommendations, if
there's something that you wouldlike me to watch.
That's an anime.
You can provide arecommendation to us through my
anime watch list and we'll giveit a good old college try.
Now, mind you, anyrecommendation that you do send
(22:14):
us may end up being an episodewe talk about when our anime
reviews.
Now that's also a key thing.
I want to mention that some ofthe anime that will be on this
list will be ones that we willtalk about now.
I haven't updated this list ina while, but I'm diligently
(22:35):
working on getting it updated soit is current for this season.
I want to hear from you whatare what animes are you guys
watching?
Are there any on your watchlist?
Or are there some that you justbantered into death, know and
just forgot about and wish itdied a horrible death?
(22:58):
Those are things I want to hearfrom you guys.
I know I'm talking to a mic andI enjoy everyone who takes the
time to listen new and currentlisteners, thank you.
But I want to hear what aresome of your anime hot takes?
What are some of your animepicks?
What are some of your animepicks?
(23:20):
What are some of your favoriteanimes and do you have
recommendations?
There's no wrong answer there.
Again, you can all our.
My anime list is going to beprovided in the episode
description along with oursocials.
So if you want to see whatwe're watching, and watch with
(23:43):
us and watch along, let us know,You'll see it displayed there.
With that being said, theplatform time I used to have
funimation and then funimationkind of sunset, and was acquired
(24:09):
by cruncher roll, and I knowthere are other avenues in
watching anime.
I just prefer to pay for itmyself and just have it
accessible.
I can watch it on my phone, onmy console, just anywhere that
is accessible.
And I know that the otheravenue for anime is HiDive, and
(24:31):
I did try them out for a bit,but I just couldn't get used to
the UI system and then theircontent of anime to watch didn't
seem very particular or a hugelibrary.
Now, mind you, they did haveanime, some stuff I didn't
(24:52):
recognize, just a lot of stuffthat never even heard of, and so
I feel like the catalog forthem is just we need to have
content available.
We'll just pick anything and dodeals and have it there.
So I feel like they have more.
So anime, maybe that was donein the 90s, that there were
(25:13):
one-offs, and so if you'rewanting to watch, like the
current stuff for anime, I Iwould say Crunchyroll, or if you
have other avenues to watch, it, please do.
But me personally not sayingI'm trying to force you to use
Crunchyroll, but that's mypreference of how I watch my
(25:36):
anime and been happy.
How you watch your anime it'sup to you and I believe I
believe, trying to think, Ithink that will bring this
episode almost to a close.
Now, with the spring seasonlineup for anime on christian
(25:57):
roll, I did select the five thatI Now there is a huge list of
anime which I'm going to alsoinclude in the episode
description.
That way, if you want to perusethe lineup, you can.
There's a lot more anime that'sgoing to be releasing for the
(26:19):
spring that I didn't have timeto go over or pick.
I just picked what I felt mightbe a good gambit across the
spectrum of anime from differentgenres.
Now I will.
So if you want, you canactually peruse that list as
well, which they'll haveeverything from new that
(26:41):
simulcast to what they pickedand what's going to be like in
rotation for this season.
I'm also going out of my comfortzone with certain animes here.
I feel like Catch Me at theBallpark is like a slice of life
, and I normally don't watchslice of life animes, so that's
(27:02):
going to be something new, because for me personally, slice
of life animes can be slow intheir startup and I can lose
interest very quickly if youknow the story isn't engaging,
but this really caught my eye,so I'm going to give it the old
college try and see if the storyis up to par or ends up being a
(27:28):
stinker as this episode comesto a close.
I want to thank you for tuningin to this episode of Second
