What happens when the universe conspires to make you a hero against your will? In "Muffin Buffalo," our reluctant protagonist Jaye finds herself caught in a web of good deeds she never intended to perform, all guided by the mysterious inanimate objects that continue to speak to her.

As Jaye begrudgingly follows the muses' instructions—stapling a shoelace, catching a falling baby, and withholding disability checks from their rightful owner—she becomes an accidental do-gooder, earning the dreaded "Employee of the Month" title she never wanted. Meanwhile, she attempts to help her reclusive neighbor Pat, who has lost 300 pounds but still sees himself as overweight, reenter society with disastrous and ultimately surprising results.

The episode delves into deeper territory through Aaron's compelling subplot. The staunch atheist and perpetual theology student finds his worldview crumbling when faced with mounting evidence that Jaye really is receiving messages from beyond. His comfortable certainty in life's meaninglessness gives way to an existential crisis as he contemplates what it means if there truly is purpose in the universe. The scene where a broken cow creamer leads to a series of coincidences ending with books spelling out "cow talk" perfectly encapsulates the show's unique blend of humor and philosophical depth.

"Muffin Buffalo" marks a turning point in the series as Jay begins to accept her strange gift rather than fight against it, suggesting that perhaps there is method to the madness after all. When the episode's seemingly disconnected elements—Pat's body image issues, Marianne Marie's muffin business, and the misdirected disability checks—converge in an unexpected resolution, we're left wondering if the universe might indeed work in mysterious ways.

Have you ever resisted your calling only to find it chasing you down anyway? This episode of Wonderfalls reminds us that sometimes the meaning we're avoiding is exactly what we need to embrace. I am your host, andrew, andacross the table from me is my
co-host, catherine Catherine.
Hello, catherine, it's me.
So here at Seeking Season 2, weare discussing all sorts of

(00:33):
television shows that have onlyreceived a single season and see
if they deserve a season two.
They were canceled after thefirst season or somewhere within
their first, as as we'recovering here in season one of
seeking season two.
Keep track we are talking abouta show called wonder falls.

Catherine (00:54):
Sorry, all I can think about now is Sam Eagle and
Muppet vision three day.

Andrew (00:58):
Yes.

Catherine (00:58):
Rest in peace Pour one out for Muppet vision three
day.

Andrew (01:01):
Yes.

Catherine (01:03):
It's a tribute to all nations, but mostly America,
but mostly America, but mostlyAmerica.
I don't know why we're talkingabout all of the shows, all of
the shows, but mostlyWonderfalls.

Andrew (01:15):
We're talking about all the shows that got cancelled
after one season, but for nowWonderfalls.
That is correct, alright.

Catherine (01:26):
I don't know where my brain goes.
Who knows?
No one.

Andrew (01:29):
No one is going to try to understand either.
So today we are talking aboutMuffin Buffalo, episode 6,
muffin Buffalo Muffin Buffalo.
So this is now the one of thewe're getting into the episodes
that did not air in the UnitedStates, right, did air in Canada

(01:51):
.
So to all of you in Canada whohave seen this, or to those in
the United States who havepurchased the DVDs or watch it
on YouTube or wherever else, you'll know what we're talking
about.
So this was an interestingepisode.
So let's talk about some of thepeople that directed it,

(02:15):
starred in it.
Okay, so this was directed byCraig Zisk.
Emmy nominated.
Emmy nominated, emmy nominated.
There we go.
I can say that Emmy nominatedfor both Weeds and Larry Sanders
Huh, interesting, yes, did notwin an Emmy, won a BAFTA,

(02:36):
apparently, but did not win anEmmy.
It was multiple Emmynominations.
Pretty talented guy.
Apparently it was written againby Gretchen J Berg and Aaron
Harberts.
They're the writing duo thatwrote several of the episodes of

(02:58):
Wonder Falls.
I would venture to say that onthis one they hit a little bit
more of a groove groove, eventhough I found many things about
this very insulting as a personhit a couple sour notes, but
but they're definitely I Idefinitely think we'll get into
it, but I mean I think it was itwas a really the the the

(03:20):
characters of jay and aaron arereally starting to gel well
together.
I feel like they're getting thedynamic of the characters down
pretty well.

Catherine (03:35):
Yeah, they're definitely a lot better.
I am, of course, confusingepisodes in my head again,
because we are doing another twotoday, but this is the one
where she becomes employee ofthe month, right.

Andrew (03:50):
I believe this is the one where she becomes employee
of the month.
Yes, this is the one whereshe's doing all the good deeds.
Yes, here it is.
She stapled the shoelace.

Catherine (04:04):
Yes.

Andrew (04:05):
Saved a baby, yep.

Catherine (04:06):
She's not a baby saver.
Stop clapping.

Andrew (04:12):
It was very funny.

Catherine (04:13):
The fondue dinner, with Sharon just merrily eating
fondue while everything ismelting down around them.

Andrew (04:20):
Really.

Catherine (04:20):
I enjoyed that.

Andrew (04:21):
Absolutely so.
We'll dive into all the detailsof this episode.
But Aaron Harbertsinterestingly enough he was an
exec producer on a favorite ofyours, zoe's Extraordinary
Playlist Great show.
Yeah he did that Star TrekDiscovery.
He was an exec producer on fora time and also Pushing Daisies.

Catherine (04:45):
Which is shocking.

Andrew (04:46):
I know another, Brian Fuller production.

Catherine (04:47):
Yeah, because Brian Fuller likes to keep people
around, brian Fuller.

Andrew (04:51):
Yes, indeed, the Brian Fuller universe, the Fullerverse
.
Yes, the Fuller Brushman.
So some of the Sorry, anyway,so some of the guest stars on
this one, eddie k thomas yeah,as I hate to say it, fat pat,

(05:12):
that is how he is credited inimdb.
Fat squatch, fat squatch, the.
What was it?
The portly chupacabra?

Catherine (05:23):
So bad, oh my God.

Andrew (05:26):
There are several names for this character.

Catherine (05:28):
I hope to God there's no one out there who calls me
fat cat.

Andrew (05:32):
No, no one would never.
They would never dare.

Catherine (05:35):
You don't know.
Yeah, they better not dare.
I'll fucking sit on them.

Andrew (05:40):
They wouldn't live long.
I mean this is this is.
I mean this is better thanEddie K Thomas' other well-known
acting gig as Shit Break fromthe popular American Pie.
American Pie, yeah, so he'smoving up in the world.

Catherine (06:03):
I have to say I do not find Eddie K Thomas
convincing as a guy who lost 300pounds.

Andrew (06:12):
Yeah, that was a bit of a stretch Like okay, getting off
track.
So far off the beat, I know.
I mean when you see him halfnaked, I mean that's exactly
where I was going to go.

Catherine (06:28):
They had a whole scene where Jay and Mahondra
talk about how much skin he musthave Right, and then they show
him half naked and there's nohanging skin.
No, I mean, you can hide theskin.
If you've lost 100 pounds, Iwould know If you lose 300
pounds there's no hiding thatskin.

(06:48):
His arms would be saggy.
His chest would be saggy.
His belly would be saggy.
He'd just have a ton of extraskin and I don't think he had
the money for skin removalsurgery living in a trailer park
.

Andrew (07:00):
Well, considering that he never left the trailer,
that's fair.
I mean, I doubt he would havegone for skin removal surgery.
But anyway, eddie K Thomas isPatrick, not the starfish Fat
Pat, fat Pat and Beth Grant.
Yeah, beth Grant as MarianneMarie Beadle.

Catherine (07:22):
Yep.

Andrew (07:24):
I mean I say probably would anyone recognize her by
her name, beth grant.
I don't know, she's like one ofthose.

Catherine (07:30):
Hey, it's that person she is, she's a she's a great
character actress because Irecognized I've seen her in a
million things, yeah, as soon asyou see her, like you, you
recognize her, but she's not Ifeel like I'd recognize her just
by her voice.
You could.

Andrew (07:43):
You could recognize her by her voice.
She's got a very feel like I'drecognize her just by her voice.
You could.
You could recognize her by hervoice.
She's got a very I don't wantto say distinctive voice, but
she was on.

Catherine (07:49):
Jericho.
Do you remember her fromJericho?

Andrew (07:53):
Vaguely, Vaguely.
I remember her on Jericho, butyeah, I mean, like I said, I
mean she's been in a millionthings, I'm sure.

Catherine (08:02):
Oh yeah.

Andrew (08:04):
But again it's a hey, it's that person.
It's like, oh, that person sure.

Catherine (08:10):
This is very appropriate.
In film, she is best known forher roles as Mother at Farmhouse
in Rain man.

Andrew (08:21):
That sounds about right.

Catherine (08:22):
I mean, she has just tons and tons of credits.
Good for her.

Andrew (08:27):
Well, here she is, the owner of Muffin Buffalo.

Catherine (08:33):
The well-known Muffin Buffalo.

Andrew (08:35):
Well-known Muffin Buffalo.
All right, so let's take thedeep dive into the synopsis Of
Muffin Buffalo, yes, into thesynopsis of, yes, what you, what

(08:55):
you said, muffin buffalo.
So synopsis is that jay triesto help a shut-in neighbor
re-enter society, while themuses tell her not to give
another neighbor her disabilitychecks that were delivered to
jay by mistake.
So so the, the shut-in neighboris I, I think, the original
name.
Well, because they they'venever really seen, they've never

(09:18):
seen this person, right, theyassume I think they're assuming
it's a guy.

Catherine (09:23):
I think based on the pictures you could kind of tell
it was a guy.

Andrew (09:28):
And I guess they assume that he's a big person, a great,
big, fat person.

Catherine (09:32):
Well she had tons of pictures of him being a great
big fat person.
Did she really have pictures?

Andrew (09:37):
Yes, I thought they were all just like blurry shots, but
there are some of them whereyou can see he's a big dude
walking around, got it.

Catherine (09:45):
Yeah, because she has three albums of photos.
Oh yes, one's labeled Fat Pat,one's labeled Fat Squatch.
Did they ever say what thethird one was?

Andrew (09:55):
labeled?
I don't think they did.

Catherine (09:58):
It says Pat Pat and that says Pat Squatch, which is
what you thought she was saying.
Anyway, it was not, it was FatSquatch and I was offended.

Andrew (10:08):
Yes, it is, yes, definitely not aged well.

Catherine (10:18):
Yeah.

Andrew (10:19):
I mean, using weight as a punchline is just not a good
thing.

Catherine (10:26):
It's funny though, because now it's all about
Ozempic right Like now.
Ozempic is the punchline Right.

Andrew (10:32):
Exactly.
So what else?
So what was your kind of, whatwere some of the key events?
So, obviously, which is greatbecause they they show that
aaron and jay are are togetheragain.
Yeah, they've partnered up,which kind of plays into the
subplot of, yeah, of aaron.

(10:53):
Um, so again nice to see aaronand jay back together, again
teaming up.
Yeah, he's, he's keeping a veryclose eye on her.
So, would you say the main plotis Pat there's a lot going on

(11:14):
in this episode.
There is a lot going on in thisepisode.
So Pat, I think Pat and there'smultiple subplots, yeah, and so
there's multiple subplots, yeah, so there's Pat is the obvious
big plot of trying to get himback into society and whatever.
But that's not really the thingis.

(11:37):
That's not what the muses areconcerned about, right?
The muses are concerned aboutMuffin Buffalo not giving her,
her not giving Marianne.

Catherine (11:47):
Yeah, isn't it like?
I just remember her calling herMrs Beattie, over and over
Marianne Marie.

Andrew (11:54):
Marianne Marie.
Marianne Marie Beetle is thelast name Beetle, beetle.
Yes, Beetle is the last name.

Catherine (11:59):
Okay.

Andrew (12:00):
So, yeah, so the muses, the Muffin Buffalo, tells jay
not to give her the disabilitychecks.
Don't give them to her, whichactually ties into the main plot
.
Right, it wraps that up in theend.

Catherine (12:19):
Yes, the the sub sub plot is aaron's existential, but
then there's also the wholepart where Jay is like being a
hero and doesn't want to be likeJay as reluctant hero.

Andrew (12:33):
Jay is reluctant hero.
There's a lot going on in thisepisode.
I think that's what makes itinteresting.
I mean more interesting becausethere's it involves a lot of
people in different ways.
So I think it does a better jobof bringing the whole cast kind
of together in different areas.

(12:54):
So it's not so kind of lopsidedin the writing.
Yeah so let's go into, let'stalk about the main plot, which
is I'll say it's a double mainplot of getting Pat out, because

(13:17):
that just kind of happens therewas a whole lot of people
busting into other people'strailers without permission.

Catherine (13:24):
there was a whole lot of people like busting into
other people's trailers withoutpermission there there was a lot
of that.

Andrew (13:30):
There was a lot of that going on, but the whole thing,
the whole thing of trying Ithink trying to it was it was
interesting, cause you cause youtalk about Jay being the
reluctant hero this episode, butshe, she sincerely fails at the
one thing she's trying to do.

Catherine (13:51):
Good, like help pat, help pat, yeah, she she
distinctly, because all of theother stuff is unintentional yes
, all the all those other stuffis unintentional, well.

Andrew (14:06):
Well, I mean she listens to the mute because she listens
to the muse about stapling theshoelace right.

Catherine (14:11):
So I mean it's sort of intentional because she's the
one that did it she doesn'tmean to catch that baby, though,
and what she can do with thebaby fall hit the ground.

Andrew (14:20):
There was no one else to catch the baby.
Jay might have let the babyfall.
Jay might have been.
Jay might have been asidestepper and just she's not a
baby catcher, she's not a babycatcher, um, so, so there
there's.
There's a whole lot going on,but the main plot, yeah, is
really her trying to convincepat to get back out into society

(14:43):
and rejoin society and realizethat.
I think she's trying to get himto realize, because he's got
this kind of body dysmorphia, that he always sees him 300
pounds heavier than he actuallyis, so he doesn't.
And 12 pounds from his goalweight 12 pounds from his goal
weight, so he doesn't seehimself as being attractive or

(15:12):
thin or anything like that.
So it's like once he gets outinto society he starts realizing
that other people are sayingthose things to him and he kind
of has the realization thatmaybe he is I mean, he's still
obsessed with the goal weighthe's obsessed with the goal
weight.
He is obviously just painfullybad with people like he's just

(15:37):
awkward well, he's basicallybeen a shut-in most of his life,
living and living in thattrailer.

Catherine (15:46):
So I mean the misunderstanding about jay
taking him home to meet herparents.
And then you know poor ericbasically telling eric that you
know jay's obsessed with him.
She's been taking pictures ofhim for years, right, and then
showing up naked in her beduninvited.

(16:07):
Yes, it's just a very like 12year old boy's view of what a
relationship is.

Andrew (16:15):
Well, again, I think he's got probably a little bit
of stunted development, yeah.

Catherine (16:20):
And then you find the one person worse than Jay's
whole family.
He's so competitive.

Andrew (16:26):
Oh man, that's amazing.

Catherine (16:27):
And Sharon is so happy she's finally winning.

Andrew (16:32):
He's really bringing out Sharon's competitive streak, as
Darren says, which I think isinteresting.
Yeah, they get really Pat andSharon really get.

Catherine (16:47):
Yeah.

Andrew (16:47):
Really get into it, which is interesting.

Catherine (16:51):
Yeah, um.

Andrew (16:54):
What else is so and and so then kind of the tie into
that plot is is the whole muffinBuffalo storyline right?
Which is Marianne Marie, is itMarianne?

Catherine (17:09):
Yeah, marianne Marie Beatle yeah.

Andrew (17:11):
Marianne.
Marie Beatle comes over andpushes her way into the, into
Jay's trailer, because she can'tfind her, she's not getting her
disability checks and they'retrying to evict her from the
trailer park.
Right, and the muffin buffaloon Marianne's apron tells Jay

(17:31):
not to give her the checks.
Mm-hmm, jay doesn't know whyand she's kind of conflicted
because it doesn't seem like itseems like the wrong thing to do
, is not like this woman needsher checks, so but but Jay, jay
goes along with the muse anddoes not, does not give the

(17:52):
checks to Marianne initially, um, and so that leads into the
whole.
It winds up in the end becausemarianne has been, marianne is a
baker she's been baking these, these muffins, um, and in the
end, jay finally does give herthe checks, the disability
checks, right, and mariannereally realizes that she never

(18:18):
could have saved up this muchmoney, because she uses all that
money in the disability checksto, like, launch her business.

Catherine (18:25):
Yep.

Andrew (18:27):
And interesting, and I hate to say I say that too much.
Interestingly.
I say interestingly enough.
I had to cut it out of the lastepisode like five times.
I say it too damn much Anyway.

Catherine (18:41):
Well, I want the audience to know I'm paying
attention to you, so I say yeahconstantly.

Andrew (18:45):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Catherine (18:48):
Should I do it with jazz hands from now on?
Yeah, yeah, maybe I'll just sayit differently every time.

Andrew (18:55):
Yeah, I say, I turned it , I turned that down.
What?

Catherine (19:00):
was it.
Oh my God, Please cut all ofthat out.

Andrew (19:11):
Not a chance.
So, anyway, what happens isthat, because of what Jay does
to Pat, pat has this kind ofmeltdown and and just get,
doesn't, just doesn't give afuck anymore, but what?

Catherine (19:30):
what Jay does to Pat is really just reject him he
rejects him, but I mean yeah, but because Pat has some level
of stunted development.

Andrew (19:40):
But Pat also sees the.
I don't think he saw the.
When did he see the photoalbums?
Oh, in the very beginning.
In the very beginning, yeah.

Catherine (19:47):
Because, remember, she goes to see what's going on
in Marianne Marie's trailer.
Oh, that's right.
And there's smoke because, sheleft to go pick up the neighbor
or whatever, and he's in Jay'strailer going through the photo
albums.

Andrew (20:00):
That's right.

Catherine (20:02):
And she tries to pull off Pat Pat and.
Pat Squatch, pat Squatch.

Andrew (20:07):
Pat Squatch.
So he just gets pissed becausehe got rejected and he
misinterpreted her intentions asbeing attracted to her and to
him and he gets all mad.
He thought she had amorousintentions.
Yes which she did not.
So he goes on a binge of eatingtons of Marianne Marie Beatles

(20:34):
muffins, her muffin, buffalomuffins.

Catherine (20:37):
And I got to tell you I really did relate to the next
part, because I think everyoverweight person has gone
through the period where they'relike I'll just eat sugar-free
stuff.
Except he didn't know that shewas using like a low fat fat,
fat, fat substitute.
And those cause massivegastrointestinal distress.

Andrew (21:00):
And enough so that he lost 13 pounds.

Catherine (21:03):
And ended up in the hospital.

Andrew (21:04):
Ended up in the hospital , losing 13 pounds and hitting
his goal weight.

Catherine (21:08):
But also giving Marianne Marie.

Andrew (21:11):
A spokesperson Yep For her muffins.

Catherine (21:14):
And a new advertising yes, Gimmick, basically that
they're for weight loss.

Andrew (21:20):
Yes, exactly.
So it ended up everything, everything in those two plot
lines, storylines, really kindof tied up nice and nice and
neat.
Yeah it was.
It was messy, there was a lotgoing on, which was which I
don't think, and again I thoughtit was a well-written episode
as far as that's concerned, likeagain, again using using weight

(21:41):
as a punchline.

Catherine (21:43):
Sure Sucked Made me feel real bad Right.

Andrew (21:46):
That was that.

Catherine (21:47):
that part was wasn't great, but Didn't love it, but
it, you know, it was soconsistent in that time period
Absolutely, I mean.

Andrew (22:00):
But I think I think the, I think think the writing was
solid.
It tied a lot of loose endstogether.
Um yeah, so you had.

Catherine (22:04):
Jay is the reluctant reluctant heroine reluctant
heroine employee of the monthemployee ended up becoming
employee of the month.
Sharon got that balloon bouquetwhen she made partner.
That's right that.

Andrew (22:16):
That was too funny, um, but yeah, like, like I find it.
I found it fascinating thatreally, jay was like suddenly,
just like on top of listening towhat listening and doing
whatever the muses said in thisepisode.

Catherine (22:33):
And I do think this episode was a turning point for
her, where I think she's gonefrom.
I'm going insane, but I'll dowhat they say because they won't
shut up to.

Andrew (22:43):
There's got to be some reason behind this, so I'm going
to start listening to them yeah, she doesn't, because I think
we'll touch on that in the nextepisode when I think mahondra or
someone asks is it, is itbecause of guilt?
Like do you feel guilty?
Right, and she was like kind ofsort of.
So it's like she, she knowsthere's some purpose, some

(23:03):
reason that this is happening, but she doesn't quite.
She knows, she knows that thatmuch at this point that there
there is a purpose.
She just doesn't know what thatpurpose is per se which I think
is a nice segue to Aaron'ssubplot.

Catherine (23:18):
Ooh I love this.

Andrew (23:20):
Yeah, I loved this so much.

Catherine (23:22):
Where it is basically revealed that, well, yes, he is
this like permanent theology, student Right, his whole
Comparative religion.
Yeah, reason for being hiswhole kind of like outlook on

(23:44):
life is that there is nothinghe's like firmly an atheist and
he's comfortable with that.
But the fact that jay ishearing these voices leads him
to believe that there might besomething bigger and that is
giving him this whole likecrisis of conscience crisis of
faith?

Andrew (24:00):
yeah, like it was.
It was really interesting, likehis whole conversation with the
therapist.

Catherine (24:05):
Yeah um, who has really put out that?
Jay still has the book?

Andrew (24:08):
yes, but it was.
It was really interesting to tolisten to him.
He was like he's likemeaninglessness and
meaninglessness.
He's like he's like Iunderstand this.
He's like I getlessness andmeaninglessness.
He's like I understand this.
He's like I get that, I getthat life is meaningless.
He's like but the fact thatthese objects are talking to her
gives the possibility thatthere is meaning in this world,

(24:29):
and he's like that just blowshis mind.
He's like I can't wrap his headaround.
What meaning could there be?
So it's really very interesting.
He can't wrap his head aroundwhat meaning could there be,
right?
So it's really very interesting.
I love his character now, justin the last couple episodes of
really kind of trying to wraphis head around about what's

(24:52):
really going on here.

Catherine (24:53):
Yeah.

Andrew (24:55):
He truly believes that these objects are talking to her
.

Catherine (24:58):
Yeah.

Andrew (24:58):
Because I love when he sets the creamer out.
The cow creamer out With thehead reattached, with the head
reattached, and she looks overand he's like you're talking to
it, aren't you, yep?

Catherine (25:13):
And he's baiting her, trying to test her to see
what's going on, what'sfascinating, and some of this is
getting into the next episodebriefly, but is that he believes
her right and he doesn't thinkshe's crazy.
He believes that she is talkingto these things right, he

(25:33):
believes that she is gettingthese messages, and then you've
got mahondra, who and we'll talkabout this more in the next
episode- but, whose feelings arehurt because she feels like
she's being shut out by whateveris going on with Jay.
Right, but when Jay tells herthe truth, mahandra doesn't
believe her.
She's not ready to hear itRight.

Andrew (25:49):
Yeah, yeah, that was interesting in the next episode,
which we will touch upon in acouple of weeks.

Catherine (25:56):
Yeah, or you know, in our case in a couple of minutes
a couple of minutes, yeah, so,so again.

Andrew (26:04):
So the subplots, so it was interesting, like to me, um,
the whole, the whole AaronAaron thing.
But he really starts, I mean heends up becoming like the, like
the cow creamer coming unglued.
Yeah, um, that, the fact thatthere's potentially meaning in

(26:29):
this world, because that thatjust it's.
It's funny.
He's like again, I get, I getlife being meaningless because
that's his, that's been hiswhole thing, his whole life,
that life is meaningless, right, and now suddenly there is
meaning, there is potentiallymeaning, and he's like what are
the ramifications of meaning inthis world?
Right, and it'll be interesting.

(26:51):
I'll be interested to see howthat plays out the rest of the
season.
That's really what I'm lookingforward to and I hope they touch
on it again, cause he's talkedto a therapist now.
It would have been interestingwhen, with the episode with the
priest like if, if, if that hadcome later in the in the series,

(27:11):
if he'd had a conversation withthe priest as well about, about
all of this.
Yeah, but, um, that didn'thappen.
Um, so what else?
What else?
What other like little substories, storylines and things
did you enjoy in this, in thisepisode?

Catherine (27:33):
So you want me to give you some of my favorites.

Andrew (27:34):
Well, not the favorites yet, but just just the
storylines themselves.
What, what else else, whatother?
What else stood out to you inin the storyline?

Catherine (27:41):
I think I spoke about it briefly, but um yeah uh,
eric, poor eric.
He's so into her and he looksso broken hearted when Pat is

(28:02):
going on and on about thisrelationship that doesn't exist,
right, um, I also there was theother, the other piece that we
didn't really talk about in theseries of events that happened.
So she staples the shoelace, she saves the baby, she finds
the ring.

Andrew (28:19):
Well, she doesn't find the ring.
The mother finds the ring.
The ring is in the stroller.

Catherine (28:24):
And then excuse me when they're at the barrel.

Andrew (28:30):
Yes, Is it?

Catherine (28:31):
big mouth, billy Bass , who tells her to give Mahandra
a chair because her feet arehurting Yep, and of course Jay
doesn't give her her own, shetakes the one next to her and
the guy falls but ends up notlosing his sobriety because he
realizes he was given the wrongdrink.

Andrew (28:49):
He's like I smell like rum.
He's like wait, there was rumin my drink.

Catherine (28:54):
And that was a whole big thing.
It had been switched with theguy next to him.
Blah, blah, blah, blah.

Andrew (28:58):
Yeah, so he's like where are you going?
I'm going to a meeting, whichwhich I'll say.
I'll say briefly, I thought itwas nice because they didn't,
they didn't make fun of it, yeahwhich which I thought was for
this show.
Yeah for this show, which Ithought was good.
You know it was.
Yeah.
It was the one moment when he'slike I'm going to a meeting and

(29:19):
there wasn't a punchline to himgoing to an AA meeting.

Catherine (29:22):
I just thought he was going to be calling his sponsor
because he had his phone out.
So when?

Andrew (29:26):
they were like where are you?

Catherine (29:26):
going and he had the phone out.
I was expecting him to be likeI'm calling my sponsor, but
instead it was I'm going to ameeting, like you're calling 411
.

Andrew (29:36):
I don't know.

Catherine (29:36):
Get me the number for AA.

Andrew (29:38):
Maybe he was calling a sponsor to find out where the
meeting is.
Maybe he should have said thatWell, the writer's room.
You weren't in the writer'sroom.

Catherine (29:48):
That's on you, Maybe they should ask me to they
should have.

Andrew (29:50):
They should have go back in time, go back in time and
stop them.
And if I was going, to go backin time.

Catherine (29:57):
I don't think the first thing I would do is go to
the Wonderfalls writer's roomGoing to go back in time.

Andrew (30:05):
Anyway, see, no one will get that reference.
I don't think anybody would getthat reference.
Kevin Nealon, michael J Fox, inan elevator on Saturday Night
Live.
Is that going to go back intime?
It's funny that we bring thatup back to the future, because

(30:31):
this morning I put on AppleMusic and it's like Andrew's mix
or something like that, sure, and just pulls random stuff that
I've listened to or I may beinterested to.
Yeah, and Power of Love by HueyLewis, and the News was on this
morning.
So just wrapping that all up.

(30:54):
So let's talk about favoritemoments, moments, highlights of
of this episode.
What do you got?

Catherine (31:00):
I'm trying to remember, cause it was in the
middle of Marianne Marie's wholething about the diet industry
where she yells sick I'll JennyCraig.

Andrew (31:10):
I totally missed that.
Oh my God.

Catherine (31:16):
That's so good, and that was both bold and hilarious
oh, she deserves an award.
I'm reading a av club reviewyes she deserves an award for
her delivery of well sick hilemiss jenny craig that's amazing.

Andrew (31:35):
I am so sad I missed that.
I'm going to re-watch theepisode just so I can catch that
.

Catherine (31:39):
It's when he's like downing all the muffins yeah, I
remember the mention of JennyCraig.

Andrew (31:45):
I just didn't catch the Kyle there, so that's really
good.

Catherine (31:51):
I loved.
I loved that the fatreplacement thing may cause
fecal, urgency, fecal urgency.
Because it's so true.

Andrew (32:11):
Coming to the stage fecal urgency.
Ladies and gentlemen, oh, myGod.
Yes.

Catherine (32:19):
I already talked about the fact that I loved
Sharon just downing the fondue.
She was just so happy, so happywith her fondue.

Andrew (32:27):
Which will just I'll tie in one of my favorite lines
when you got to that.
So the mother, when they wereat the game night or whatever,
when Pat was over, sharon was ahusky girl.

Catherine (32:41):
That's right.
I forgot about Sharon being ahusky girl.
Maybe that's why she likes thatfondue.
Taffy apples I liked when theywere talking about how it was
going to make the Christmas card.
Jay got employee of the monthand she goes.
I wish it wouldn't.

Andrew (33:00):
I wish it wouldn't.
Oh, poor J.
So what else?

Catherine (33:06):
Those were my major yeah.

Andrew (33:11):
So for me, again, not nice making fun of overweight
people, Obviously I get that, but Fat Squ squash was like.
And the port, don't forget theportly Chupacabra.

Catherine (33:24):
Portly Chupacabra is pretty funny, actually, I also.
I thought it was veryinteresting that the whole gag
with the broken axle yes, likethe trailer is just constantly
going back and forth, but likethat's all it was.
It never paid off in any way,it was just a broken axle.

Andrew (33:40):
No, I know, I was waiting for, waiting for
something to happen, but nope, but nothing.
Um, and I just, I just lovedthe.
It was the barrel bear.
Yep, um, he just goes untied, shoelace, staple it, and she
does it like it was just like.

Catherine (33:58):
because she's learning, there's no point in
fighting with them.

Andrew (34:02):
It was clear to the point untied shoelace, staple it
.
And she did it.
It was great.
I like in the next episode whenit was the barrel bear, she's
yelling at him like you reallyneed to work on your pronouns

(34:22):
because he's refers to everyoneI think is her.
yeah, but there's so many, somany female characters yeah it's
like she can't keep track ofwho is, yeah, who is who.
And then the other thing that Ireally loved, because again I
love the storyline of Aaronwrapping his head around all

(34:43):
this meaning to what's going onwith Jay.
Yeah, he's talking with thetherapist and then it's like the
whole series of events and andhe, the therapist, goes, it's
cracked, right.

(35:04):
I think he says it's cracked, Ithink so, yes, and and Aaron is
like I know he's like it justdoesn't make sense.
He goes, no, the cow creamer iscracked.
And and then the head falls offof the cow creamer and it's like
this kind of like Rube Goldberg, kind of like series of events
that happens knocks the books.

(35:25):
The books end up gettingknocked off the the desk, which
is probably because the thebookend isn't there and the the
two books land on the land onthe ground.
It says cow talk.

Catherine (35:40):
Yes.

Andrew (35:41):
And Aaron's like oh, my God.

Catherine (35:44):
Everything's a sign.

Andrew (35:47):
So that's the thing is like.
Again another sign.
He's like and again, is that asign?
Is it not a sign?
It's like he's having this, this, this, this battle going on
in his head.
Is there meaning to this?
Is there not meaning to this?
What is going on?
He's like do I read into this?
Do I not read into this?
What do I do?
I also, I thought it was agreat little scene of just
everything kind of happening andthen cow talk.

Catherine (36:10):
I do want to point out, and this really has nothing
to do with anything Lee Pace iswearing a leather blazer, which
not a fan of a leather blazer, but Lee Pace can pull off a
leather blazer.

Andrew (36:23):
Lee Pace.
Could I'd like to see Lee Pacepull off a few things.

Catherine (36:30):
Young Lee Pace I mean current day Lee Pace also very
attractive but he is, he is, heis aging like a fine wine.

Andrew (36:37):
Yeah, yes, he is.
Anyway, he's aging like a finewine.
Yeah, yes, he is.

Catherine (36:41):
Anyway, completely off topic but still worth
discussing.
I mean drooling over Lee Pace.
Is it ever really off topic?

Andrew (36:50):
No.

Catherine (36:51):
No.

Andrew (36:52):
So oh my.

Catherine (36:57):
Apologies to our apparently more than three
listeners.
That's right, we didn't killthem with the free basing.

Andrew (37:07):
Oh my God, andrew got a new soundboard If you're still
listening to us after the freebasing conversation.
Thank you for sticking with us.
So talk about what did not work.
We, we, we already know we'vekilled the yeah, yeah, um, oh.

Catherine (37:28):
When pat gets rejected and starts calling her
an evil bitch, the level ofvitriol with which he delivered
those lines man, I was like Idon't care who you are.
It is amazing to me that Jaycontinued to try to help him

(37:51):
after that, because if someonecalled me an evil bitch like
that, I'd be like fuck you andI'm out, right.
So I really hated that.
Um, I didn't think it was verybefitting of his character.
The whole thing was supposed tobe that.
He had low self-esteem, so Idon't understand why they chose

(38:13):
to make him so angry yeah, eddiek thomas made some interesting
choices in the delivery of hislines like that.

Andrew (38:20):
That was probably the only weak point.
Yeah, his character was the.
He was a very inconsistentcharacter in this, in this
episode.
Yeah, that's probably the onlyinconsistent piece to a
relatively consistent,consistently written episode and
I think some of that to yourpoint might be his acting
choices.

Catherine (38:41):
Yes, Because he could have been like you're just an
evil bitch.
Like instead of you're an evilbitch.
I was like oh my God, Right,Like he.
I would have been terrified ifI cause he's tall, I would have
been terrified if I were in aroom with a, a much larger man
and not fat like tall andimposing yelling at me that I

(39:01):
was an evil bitch.

Andrew (39:02):
Right, that would have bothered me that could have gone
sideways really fast Causeshe's not big, so like yeah.
Yeah.

Catherine (39:09):
Um, so that was one that I didn't love.

Andrew (39:12):
You know, my, my, my one pickup from from this is when
he referred to the tranny andthe wheelchair.

Catherine (39:18):
Hmm, who then turns out to just be an old man with
like a scarf covering his headand makeup on Like give me a
break again, again, early, twothousands problems, yeah, yeah.

Andrew (39:36):
It's, it's, it's a, it's a, it's, it's.
It's fascinating how, over thelast two decades, things have
really, yeah, really changedsignificantly.

Catherine (39:44):
Yeah, yeah For the better, obviously.
Oh, I would say yes.
I mean, do I think sometimes itgoes too far in the opposite
direction?
Yes, but I think there arecertain parts of this that I
just found downright offensive, and it's like I've been a fat
person.
I've been a not fat person.
I am currently a fat person.
I really hope to God no one outthere is calling me fat squash.

Andrew (40:09):
No.

Catherine (40:11):
I thought you were going to call me fat squash.
The way you leaned into themicrophone.
I'm like he's going to do it.
He's going to do it.
I said Pat squash.

Andrew (40:23):
I mean, I said I said pat squash, we are divorced,
it's not like I could divorceyou again, so withhold
visitation from the cats right,I'll take my, I'll take that
house key back.
That's right all right, solet's talk about so again.
So it's that.
That, I think, is what some ofthe definitely things that
didn't work.
I think overall it was theepisode worked.

Catherine (40:45):
I would give this one a thumbs up.
I would give this a thumbs up.

Andrew (40:49):
I liked this episode for like the next episode even
better yeah.

Catherine (40:53):
I really liked the next episode, but I think a lot
of that was the.
The guest stars, yeah R.
The guest stars, yeah Rue.
That was some serious talent.

Andrew (41:00):
Thank you for being a friend.

Catherine (41:03):
But okay, let's finish this one.
Yes, we liked this episode.

Andrew (41:06):
Yes, so the one little bit of trivia is our good friend
and your good friend, bethGrant.

Catherine (41:16):
Yes.

Andrew (41:17):
Marianne Marie Beadle.

Catherine (41:18):
We're friends now.

Andrew (41:19):
We're friends, we're all friends, everybody's friends.

Catherine (41:21):
Yes, yes, marianne, marie Beadle, we're friends now.
We're friends, we're allfriends, everybody's friends.

Andrew (41:23):
Yes, she shows up in an episode of Pushing Daisies
called Comfort Food.
Yes, she represents MuffinBuffalo in the episode in a
cook-off against Ned.
So I have to watch that episodenow.
I don't know where PushingDaisies is.
If anywhere, I'll probably haveto find it.
Episode now.
I don't know where PushingDaisies is.
If anywhere, I'll probably haveto find it on YouTube.
Yeah, I would imagine, butdefinitely have to check that

(41:46):
episode out to see MarianneMarie Beadle once again.
And Muffin Buffalo.
I hope she still has the apron.
I would die if she still hadthe apron on.
That would be amazing.

Catherine (41:57):
I bet she does.

Andrew (42:01):
We'll have to.
We'll have to check that andfind out.
But so that that was.
That was that's what I've gotfor the episode.
Do you have anything any lastparting thoughts words on on
your side?
I don't think so.
No.
Don't call people fat Squatch.
Don't call people fat Squatchor the portly Chupacabra or fat

(42:23):
cat, fat anything Exactly.
Yeah, that's all right.
The only kind of alliterationyou can is that alliteration.

Catherine (42:34):
No, that's just rhyming.

Andrew (42:35):
That's just rhyming.
The only rhyming you can do islike that's a fat rat.
Yeah, that's a rhyming.

Catherine (42:39):
The only rhyming you can do is like that's a fat rat,
yeah, that's a fat cat.

Andrew (42:42):
Sorry, Mulder, mulder oh .

Catherine (42:46):
I have the fattest cat of all 12 pounds, oh my
goodness.
Yeah well, let's see what Jordyweighs, because I would guess
he's pushing 20.

Andrew (42:52):
I can't wait.
Well, Linus and Leo were 21, 22pounds at one point.

Catherine (43:00):
They looked like they were about to burst.
Geordie is like meant to bethat big.

Andrew (43:04):
Geordie is definitely just meant to be a big cat.
He's a huge cat.
Yes, there are many cats in ourlives, past and present.

Catherine (43:11):
As I pointed out earlier tonight, when we first
got Geordie he was so big theythought he was a fully grown cat
.
He was still a kitten.

Andrew (43:22):
He was totally a kitten.
He's doubled in size since then.
His fur grew out.

Catherine (43:26):
Oh yeah, oh my God, I was looking at pictures from
when we first brought him homeand his fur was so short and he
was so obviously young and likeremember the level of energy he
had, oh yeah.
And now he's just enormous.

Andrew (43:42):
He is an enormous feline and I love him to death.

Catherine (43:46):
Me too.
He's such a good boy.

Andrew (43:47):
Yes, he is All right.
So, having talked about ourcats, yes, I can talk about more
.

Catherine (43:54):
We have others.
We could talk all night aboutthe cats.
We have a three-legged cat.
We've got.

Andrew (43:59):
We've got blind cat.

Catherine (43:59):
We have a three-legged cat.
We've got them all.
We've got two black cats in themix.

Andrew (44:02):
That's right, both are lunatics, and not a single dumb
orange cat in the lot.

Catherine (44:08):
No, we've got two kind of standoffish tabby girls.
We've got two kind of lunaticblack cats.
Yes, we do.
We've got a molder.

Andrew (44:17):
There's a molder A gray little potato.
A, we've got a molder.
There's a molder a gray littlepotato, a little beached whale a
little walrus, he's got thosebig whiskers, his walrus
whiskers.

Catherine (44:25):
We've got a blind cat .
We do the cat without fear.

Andrew (44:29):
A little daredevil.
Anyway, again, we could talkabout that all night.
Yes, we could.
All right, so that wraps upthis episode.
That wraps up this episode.
Muffin buffalo, muffin buffalo, potato, potato, potato, potato.
