As the National Guard Bureau J-1 Warrior Resilience & Fitness Division Chief, Captain Matthew Kleiman, MSW, LCSW, BCD, synchronizes Air and Army National Guard well-being, resilience, and suicide prevention efforts across the 54 states, territories, and DC. He also serves as the Director of Psychological Health for the Chief of the National Guard Bureau.

He was detailed to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) from 2010-2016 as the Chief of USCG’s Behavioral Health Services. Prior to that, he was the principal advisor in the Office of Health Affairs to senior leadership at the Department of Homeland Security on resilience and behavioral health policies across the organization.

CAPT Kleiman is a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Service. He began his active duty career over 20 years ago as an Air Force clinical social worker.
