Rev. Jodi, Self-Cell Care welcomes Sandra Schnakenburg Award winning author of "The Housekeeper's Secret" - A transformative book about healing from within. Today, we will talk about how a traumatic brain injury (TBI) not only impacts the physical brain but can also profoundly affect one’s sense of self, or soul. The injury disrupts memories, personality, and cognitive abilities, challenging the core identity a person associates with their inner being. Survivors often feel disconnected from their pre-injury self, leading to feelings of grief, frustration, or even a sense of loss of purpose. Emotional regulation and interpersonal relationships may suffer, further isolating the individual. Yet, the soul’s resilience often shines through. For many, navigating the challenges of a TBI becomes a transformative journey. It can deepen self-awareness, foster empathy, and strengthen faith or spirituality. While a TBI can feel like a fracture in the connection between body and soul, the process of healing—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—often leads to a renewed sense of meaning, reminding survivors of their capacity for growth and adaptability even amidst profound change.
