Beyond Promises How to ActivateYour Inner Power.
How do you activate your innerpower?
Where would that come from?
That activation come from?
It's not as complicated as youmay think.
In the show notes I have left alink to a YouTube video.
(01:12):
If you have the time, I wouldlike you to watch and listen to.
The video is by Bruce Lee, whowas a phenomenal martial arts
expert for those of you who maynot be familiar with him, and he
also made a lot of movies.
One of his most well-knownmovies is Enter the Dragon, and
(01:35):
the reason I suggest you look atthe video when you have time is
because the answer to thequestion beyond promises how to
activate your inner power isreally encapsulated in what he
is saying and presenting.
The video is an hour long, so Ibroke down some of the ideas
(01:56):
and concepts that he is sharingthat I agree with and I think
you'll find very useful.
His suggestion is that peoplecame to do martial arts and they
wanted to be as good as he wasat it and they trained and they
were fit and they were strongand they worked out and had a
(02:21):
certain diet and discipline thatthey were given and they did
that diligently over and overagain.
What he's suggesting, and whatI agree with, is that they could
never become better or as goodas him as long as they just
concentrated on diet andexercise.
Why as long as they justconcentrated on diet and
(02:43):
exercise?
Why?
Because they were stayingwithin the confines and the
mindset of the techniques andthe results that those
techniques would give them.
They were promised certainresults by doing certain things
(03:08):
a certain way with a certainoutcome.
How Bruce Lee differentiatedhimself, and how you can
differentiate yourself, is thishe suggests that being involved
with just techniques andfollowing what people tell you
(03:30):
can only lead you to the resultsthat they got.
And how do you then begin tolook at activating your inner
power and becoming the best atsomething, if that is your goal,
or at least becoming very goodat something above the average,
if you only want to follow theguidance and the suggestions
(03:57):
that others give you, that theyhave tried and tested, that they
were given before that.
So it's an ongoing cycle.
Everybody's just doing whateverybody else has been told to
do.
The techniques are the same.
Bruce lee said that whatdifferentiated him out wasn't
his training, wasn't his fitness.
(04:20):
It was his ability to accesshis own inner power and
direction within his own lifeand what he wanted to do, by
questioning what was put infront of him, by challenging the
techniques that were presentedto him.
(04:41):
I agree with that mindset andthe difference it can make in
your life.
He realized for himself thatyou can't go beyond a certain
point unless you question whathas been given to you, and that
is common sense and that reallyis how to activate your inner
power.
He understood that.
(05:02):
A lot of people understand that, from a common sense
perspective, if someone says toyou, here's a technique, and
they may be considered to be amaster, as they did in his field
of martial arts.
He decided to research and lookat things a little differently
(05:22):
as to could the techniques thathe has been presented be
improved upon?
Are the techniques that he'sbeen given generating the most
amount of power for the resultsthat he wants in his martial
arts?
Well, through questioning, through not accepting the status
(05:45):
quo, through thinking outsidethe box, he went beyond where
most people would take martialarts, outside of the norm, by
(06:11):
questioning and by developing amindset of what is truly
possible, if I go beyond thetechniques and parameters that I
have been given, because herefused to be limited by them
and experiment beyond the norm.
He mentioned and I agree withthis that everybody that tried
to be like him or be as good ashe was couldn't be as good as he
(06:37):
was, not because they weren'tphysically able or they didn't
have the strength to be as goodas he was.
They simply couldn't be as goodas he was because they didn't
think outside of the box, theydidn't question to activate
(06:58):
their true inner power beyondthe promises that they had been
given as to what could beaccomplished, beyond the
promises that they had beengiven as to what could be
accomplished.
So what's the true messageabout you activating your inner
power?
It's not about if you canreally work harder than anybody
else, because a lot of peoplework hard but they don't get
(07:20):
anywhere.
It's not that if you arephysically and mentally fitter
than someone else that you mightbe able to outperform, if
that's what you want to do, orat least be your best at what
you do.
No, your true inner power liesin the fact.
(07:42):
Are you questioning what's goingon in your life, beyond what
people are presenting to you, beyond the techniques and
promises of what should bepossible?
Contemplate in that for amoment.
Isn't that the biggestdifference?
(08:03):
Contemplate in that for amoment.
Isn't that the biggestdifference that you can make in
your life to yourself?
Going beyond the promises thatpeople are making you and
telling you what is possible?
As Bruce Lee did, take it astep further.
Ask the difficult questions, challenge yourself, challenge
yourself and if you have to goagainst the status quo Now, you
(08:28):
might be a disruptor at thatpoint, but you're disrupting
things not for the sake of it,but for your own personal
well-being and development.
Because if you don't do it, ifyou don't question, if you don't
develop that mindset of notaccepting things as they are and
questioning people, situations, circumstances around you about.
(08:49):
Well, I understand that you'vedone it this way and it looks a
certain way when you do it, butI have come up with another way
of doing something that isdifferent, that works for me.
That could even be animprovement upon what you've
done.
Now, a lot of people are notreceptive to that, but that
(09:10):
doesn't make any difference,does it?
Because as long as you arereceptive to it and it's working
for you as it worked for him, then you continue on, because
you're getting better results, faster than most people, because
they're doing the same thingover and over again that they've
been told and they're gettingthe same results.
(09:32):
Questioning and activating thatcurious mindset within yourself
is how you activate your innerpower.
Don't accept other people'spromises of what is possible for
you, because they're measuringthemselves against what they
think you can do, and the worldis filled with that.
(09:54):
If you do this, you'll get thatresult.
No, if I do this, that's thepromise you're making.
If I think differently, I mightget a different result, and
that's the promise I're making.
If I think differently, I mightget a different result, and
that's the promise I'm making tomyself which promise would you
rather make?
The one someone else is makingfor you or the one that you're
(10:18):
making to yourself?
If you want to activate yourinner power, the promise you're
going to make to yourself goingforward is I will question what
is presented to me.
I will look at things from adifferent perspective.
I will accept what is presentedto me, but it won't be the
final step I take.
It'll be one of the steps Itake.
(10:42):
If you look at history, you'llsee examples of that.
You'll see that Nikola Teslaworked with Thomas Edison and at
the time Nikola Tesla metThomas Edison.
He was involved in electricityin the form of direct current.
Tesla, obviously being aroundThomas Edison, working with him,
(11:07):
could have accepted directcurrent as the norm, as what was
going to be the norm forelectricity, but he didn't.
He was in an environment thatallowed him to be exposed to
these concepts and ideas aboutelectricity.
(11:28):
But he decided to think out ofthe box, take it a little
further and Nikola Tesla came upwith AC, alternating current.
He took the idea to ThomasEdison.
They didn't see eye to eye onthat.
(11:49):
Thomas Edison had his directcurrent, nikola Tesla had
alternating current.
So Nikola Tesla eventually wenthis own way to develop what he
had come up with AC, alternatingcurrent, which is now the
electricity that we all have inour homes.
The important point is, likeBruce Lee, he was in an
(12:15):
environment that allowed him tobe exposed to concepts and
people that he was interested in, but his mind was such that
that wasn't enough.
He wanted to do something alittle different and see how
things could be improved upon.
That is how you become betterand more successful in your
(12:40):
field, if you want to be, thanother people, because a lot of
people can apply currenttechniques.
A lot of people can be toldwhat to do.
We see that in all of our lives.
In pretty much every area ofour life, we are told if we do
this, we'll get this result.
(13:01):
That is the promise.
Because we want to know whatthe result will be is the
promise because we want to knowwhat the result will be, and
there's nothing wrong with that,as long as you go beyond that
point, beyond the promise thatyou are made and you activate
your inner power by theall-important mindset of
curiosity and questioning howyou are going to be an
(13:23):
individual that really has yourown unique abilities expressed
is, for a moment in time tocontemplate, to think to
yourself, be curious, askquestions, don't be frightened
to go up against the status quo,so to speak, and say well, I
understand, if you're workingwith an organization or you're
(13:45):
working with different people, that that is how things are
normally done and these are theresults that we have received
from doing things this way.
However, what if we try this?
And I have an idea.
Because you want to be aninnovator, you want to be a
creator, because that's how youfeel fulfilled in your life.
(14:08):
Innovation and creativity andcuriosity all are activated by
your inner power of questioninghow things are now, the current
situation, going beyond thepromises that you have been told
are possible or that peoplewould like to deliver to you.
That you have been told arepossible or that people would
like to deliver to you.
(14:28):
You are going to go beyond justreceiving information.
You are going to create yourown personalized, individual,
functional knowledge andinformation by experiencing new
(14:50):
things for yourself, bydeveloping your curiosity, doing
the research to implementcertain things.
If that's what you need to doin your life, as Bruce Lee did,
that other people may not bedoing right now.
One of the concepts that BruceLee talks about in the YouTube
video is the concept offunctional truth.
(15:13):
I call it practicalspirituality and I think along
the same lines as Bruce Lee whenit comes to that concept,
because functional truth is whatyou really want.
You really want to have testedthings in your own life that
don't just work in theory, butthey work in the reality of
(15:35):
everyday life.
They are functional, and theonly way that you can live a
functional truth is by askingquestions, running experiments
and see if, in everyday stresses, in everyday situations, does
your truth, does your realityhold up every day or does it
(16:00):
fall apart?
Is it in fact a functionaltruth or is it just theory?
And that requires you to bebrutally honest about your life
and what you're doing with itand how you're approaching it,
because questioning requirescourage, it requires you to want
(16:20):
to get down to the very core ofwhat is working in your life,
not just in theory, because thatis of no use to you.
You can ask yourself questions, honest questions, about your
business life, about yourpersonal life, your
(16:41):
relationships.
You can ask questions toyourself about your goals and
it's in the questioning that youmay have and come up with more
questions and keep peeling backthat onion, so that you are
constantly evolving and growingand getting into the very depth
(17:01):
of your soul and your being, even in your spiritual life.
You can ask questions aboutyour meditation, the techniques
that you have been given.
Are they working for you?
Can you refine them?
What could you do differently?
Just because you were giventhis technique of meditation, it
(17:22):
doesn't mean you just apply itblindly or you follow it without
some introspection upon theresults and you measure the
results.
You begin to feel them as apractical, functioning reality
in your life of something thatyou can use.
Can you actually, in afunctioning way, feel the peace
that you are trying to get outof meditation or whatever it is
(17:45):
that you're trying to accomplish?
Ask yourself those questions AmI really getting out of this,
what I'm putting into it, and ifnot, why not?
And then keep re-examining thatin a very deep and profound way
.
I am going to give you somequestions from the Bruce Lee
video that he suggests you ask.
(18:07):
I agree with them and I willgive you them here today,
because when you look at thevideo when you have time, it'll
be in context.
But if you don't have timeright now to look at the video,
at least you will have somequestions formatted in your own
mind that you can begin to use.
When people begin to presentthings to you that they suggest
(18:31):
might be beneficial for yourlife and the outcomes that you
would like to have for them tohave true meaning to you, you
may want to ask these questionsLevel 1.
How does it work?
Level 2.
Why does it work?
Level 2.
Why does it work?
Level 3.
(18:52):
Under what conditions does itfail?
Level four what hiddenassumptions are we making?
Level five how can we breakthrough these assumptions?
And if you'd like to know moreabout assumptions, I talk about
(19:14):
that in episode number 20, howassumptions are ruining your
life.
Number 20, how assumptions areruining your life.
Bruce Lee suggests that in hisexperience, most people never
got past level one or two beforethey gave up on the questioning
.
Obviously, you have to gothrough them all in order to get
(19:36):
results.
These are just five questionsthat you can begin to implement
in your life when you'represented with situations, that
you can use them ongoing withoutthem failing when you go into
(20:06):
the real world, because if youonly have a theory about
anything and it fails in thereal world, it's because you
haven't questioned what it isyou're doing and honed it down
to a very simplistic place ofthis is what works and this is
how, and this is why and that iswhat you really want in your
(20:28):
life.
Take things down to the simplestversion of themselves.
Get rid of the complexity.
And I agree so much with BruceLee in this video.
That's why I suggest you watchit and listen to it when you can
.
Complexity is part of our life.
We get involved in complexsituations sometimes, but then
it is up to us.
(20:49):
If we're truly going to empowerourselves and go beyond
superficial promises andactivate our inner power, we
have to begin to dissect certainthings, simplify them and use
what we can in the mosteffective manner, and that again
requires application from youinto the questioning of the
(21:13):
validity and application ofeverything in your life.
I will leave you today withthree more suggestions from the
video that I feel are veryimportant and I do support that
will allow you to live beyondpromises and activate your inner
(21:35):
power.
There are three things that youwant to do in order to make sure
that you are indeed activatingyour inner power successfully,
and the questions that you'reasking are having the results
that you would like.
Does it work in reality?
Are they practical, functionaltruths that you are beginning to
(21:58):
own?
Number one test everythingunder resistance.
Number two measure results, notintentions.
And number three be willing todiscard what fails, no matter
(22:18):
how long you have practiced it.
No matter how long you havepracticed it.
Questioning, experimenting,running theory against practical
application requires courage.
It requires you to go beyondpromises that are made by
individuals and people as apossibility of outcomes and to
(22:44):
have the courage to activateyour own inner power by
questioning what's going onaround you, no matter how
difficult or painful that may be.
For you to constantly be in astate of personal development
and growth Ultimately, there isno end to growth.
(23:04):
Ultimately, there's onlycontinual growth.
And for you to be thatindividual that feels constantly
alive and moving towardssomething extraordinary in your
life, you have to continue thatquest, that journey of
(23:26):
questioning curiosity, to remainfeeling alive, purposeful and
connected to the source of theentire creation, because life is
a mystery, creation is amystery, and when we live in
(23:47):
that mystery of I wonder what'snext and embrace it with
enthusiasm and expectation asopportunities for growth and
exploration, we become sponges, ready and willing to receive the
answers to the very manyquestions that we have.
