Have you ever felt that surge of motivation, only to see it fade as quickly as it appeared? The problem isn't your determination—it's the invisible relationship between motivation and momentum that most people misunderstand.

Join me Linton Bergsen for this episode of the Self Realized, Shatter Your Limits podcast and discover how motivation and momentum function as energetic twins in your personal transformation journey. While motivation provides that initial spark—the why behind your actions—momentum is the sustaining force that carries you forward when inspiration inevitably wanes. Most people wait for motivation to strike like lightning, but this approach leads to stalled progress at the first obstacle.

At the heart of this struggle lies fear— False Evidence Appearing Real. Fear operates not through external threats but by undermining your relationship with your own intuition. Fear causes you to ignore your internal compass, suppress authentic expression, and doubt your capabilities. This disconnection keeps you spiritually, emotionally, personally and professionally stagnant.

Your feelings aren't enemies to be overcome but powerful signals waiting to be properly interpreted. Intuition manifests differently across all aspects of life: spiritually alerting you when something's misaligned with your purpose, emotionally coloring your motivations, personally guiding you toward necessary boundaries, and professionally leading toward innovation when properly heeded. The challenge lies in distinguishing between genuine intuition and habitual negative self-talk rooted in past conditioning.

Through my own experience at a spiritual retreat, I discovered the transformative power of approaching uncomfortable feelings with curiosity rather than judgment. This simple shift can spark new pathways for motivation and creativity previously blocked by resistance. The practical four-step process I share—pausing to name feelings, asking "what if," taking small consistent steps, and reconnecting with purpose—provides a concrete framework for harnessing intuition to fuel unstoppable momentum.

Ready to unleash your best self? Take one inspired step today. Your intuition isn't a whisper to be ignored—it's the essential drumbeat guiding your greatest opportunities. (00:22):

and open arms.

A very warm welcome to theSelf-Realized Shatter Your

(00:46):
Limits podcast.
I am your host, Linton Bergsen, guiding you one step closer to
the most powerful, authenticversion of yourself.
Today's episode number 108, isMotivation and Momentum.
Unleash Your Best Self.
Today we are diving deep intothe energetic twins I like to

(01:11):
call them of transformation, motivation and momentum.
They go together and we'llexplore how the courage and it
does take courage to listen toyour feelings and intuition
which I mention a lot in all ofthe episodes, because intuition
is the very core component ofthe self-realized individual's

(01:35):
journey and how that can changeeverything and exploring how
fear stands between you and thefuture that you so truly deserve
.
In order for you to reallypossess motivation and momentum,
you do have to overcome fear, which is False Evidence

(01:59):
Appearing Real.
I've used the acronym in otherepisodes A lot of times.
We don't always acknowledgethat having true motivation and
momentum in our lives in orderfor you to unleash your best
self does require you overcomingfear to have consistent

(02:23):
motivation and momentum.
Let's look at definingmotivation and momentum.
Imagine for a moment you'restanding at the starting line of
a great race that surge, thatyou have at that moment a mix of
anticipation and hope.

(02:45):
That's motivation.
But what carries you after thefirst exhilarating steps?
That's momentum.
Motivation is our internalspark, the why we do what we do
behind our actions.

(03:05):
Momentum is the invisible forcethat keeps you moving, fueling
every action that you take.
Momentum is sustained by theongoing feelings that you're
having about what you weremotivated to do.

(03:28):
Many people wait for motivationto strike like lightning, but
if you rely on fleetinginspiration, your journey often
halts at the first obstacle andwhat you're trying to avoid is

(03:49):
fleeting inspiration.
Let's look at fear, feelings andstalled momentum.
Let me share a story with youabout facing fear in the
workplace.
A client, let's call her Mariawas up for promotion.

(04:22):
Now, she was competent, butfelt paralyzed.
Her fear wasn't about failingher team.
It was about trusting her owninstincts and sharing bold new
ideas.
Instead, she second-guessedevery feeling and momentum
stalled.
Why?
Because fear often convinces usto ignore our feelings, the

(04:45):
very intuitive compass thatdrives motivation and momentum,
preventing you from unleashingyour best self.
How does fear block us?
Fear causes us to ignoreintuition.

(05:05):
What if I'm wrong?
Suppress our authentic feelings?
Maybe I shouldn't speak up,doubt our purpose, someone else
will do it better.
This internal stalling keepsyou rooted in the same place

(05:25):
spiritually, emotionally,personally and professionally.
Let's understand feelings.
They can fuel you, drive yourmotivation, give you momentum,
or they can create friction.
Let me give you an everydayexample about listening to

(05:49):
intuition.
Have you ever felt to pick upthe phone and call a friend,
only to find that they trulyneeded you, or felt uneasy about
a project at work and laterrealized your instincts were
spot on?
Let's take a look at listeningto your intuition in four

(06:11):
specific areas.
Number one spiritually.
Our feelings alert us whensomething's off or when we are
aligned with our true purpose.
Number two emotionally.
Emotions color our motivation.
Joy can make us bold, sadnessslows us down, anger can spark

(06:46):
action or regret.
Number three personallylistening to your intuition can
mean changing direction, embracing rest or simply setting
boundaries.
Number four professionally.
Acting on gut feelings can leadto innovation.

(07:08):
History has shown us that inbusiness time and time again.
Or, conversely, when ignoredcan mean missed opportunities.
Feelings are not your enemies.
It's knowing how to use yourfeelings correctly.
The key is in listening, discerning real intuition from

(07:29):
old habits, negative self-talkholding you back, rooted in fear
.
How do you harness your feelingsto drive positive momentum?
Let me give an example in myown life, share a story with you

(07:51):
of my own spiritualself-realization.
Many years ago I was at aretreat and I found myself

(08:15):
struggling with a sense of beingstuck in my life no motivation,
no momentum.
On the outside, things werethriving.
However, inside, I feltdisconnected.
The breakthrough came in ameditation that I decided to
take time for, when I stoppedresisting uncomfortable feelings
and got curious instead thatcuriosity, rather than judgment

(08:43):
or negative self-talk orallowing previous bad habits or
subconscious programming to takehold.
The curiosity sparked a newwave of motivation and
creativity.
Sometimes we don't understandthe power of curiosity.

(09:03):
To be a great motivator, it isimportant to identify what it is
your feeling.
Begin to decipher what it isyou want to examine further.
Be curious about what's goingon within you and your feelings,

(09:25):
and then act upon what it isyou choose to do about the
feelings that are coming upwithin you and it is important
to acknowledge within yourself.
It is a very important choiceat that moment.
I am going to give you fourthings that you can do to help

(09:49):
you, in daily life, make theright choices.
Number one when you feelsomething, pause and name it.
For example, if you were tofeel hesitation, label it.
What is causing your hesitation?

(10:10):
Is it fear, doubt, or are youin fact, questioning your
intuition?
Number two ask what if?
Instead of resisting, ask.
Ask yourself, what if Ilistened to this feeling?

(10:32):
What could be possible?
Number three take small steps.
Momentum doesn't need big steps.
Tiny actions, one step at atime, build unstoppable energy.

(10:52):
Number four connect with yourpurpose.
Remember why you started.
Write your why where you cansee it daily, so it helps you to
remain motivated.

(11:18):
Let's talk now about unleashingyour momentum.
Are you ready to unleash yourmomentum on a regular basis,
starting today?
I'm going to give you someactions that you can take when
you are not listening to thispodcast.
Take a three-minute pause andcheck in with your feelings.

(11:40):
Before your next decision.
What is your intuition saying?
Identify one fear, write itdown.
Ask is this fear protecting meor holding me back?
Share your intent.
Tell someone your next smallstep, build accountability and

(12:03):
support.
Celebrate small wins.
Momentum builds when youacknowledge progress, not just
big victories.
Your best self is not a distantdestination.
It is the part of you waitingto be unleashed by your action,
your awareness and your courage.

(12:24):
Fear can stall, but listeningto your feelings, truly honoring
them, turns the key to bothmotivation and momentum.
Your intuition is not a whisperto be ignored.
It's the drumbeat that leadsyour life's greatest motivation

(12:52):
and momentum.
Take one inspired step todayand unleash your best self.
Acknowledge your intuition.
Trust yourself, which is thedestination of a self-realized

(13:13):
individuals, knowing that theyare their own greatest resource.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
