Speaker 1 (00:00):

can improve your quality oflife and extend your health span
.
I'm Alex Semide and I'm apracticing dentist and I'll be
your host, along with JeremyWolf.
Enjoy the show, welcome.
Welcome to the Semide DentalPodcast.

(00:21):
I am very excited to be joined,as always, by 7-Day Dental
podcast.
I am very excited to be joined,as always, by producer
extraordinaire, mr Jeremy Wolf, and today very, very special
guest on the show, dr SarahTartt, welcome.
So Dr Sarah is my associate at7-Day Dental and she's my

(00:47):
dentist, so she's a pretty rockstar dentist.
So we want to really this isour initial episode of the show
kind of give you guys a feel forwho we are, our practice, our
team, some of the different waysthat we can help people reach
their goals and really what ourmission is here for you guys.
So, dr Sarah Tartt, I want tointroduce you.

(01:07):
You are my associate, so thisis a two-doctor practice and I
really just want to kick offthings with a little bit of your
background story in dentistryand how we joined forces.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Awesome.
So thanks for having me on theshow.
You guys I know that you guyshave collaborated before.
I feel very honored to be part.
My journey for me and Dr Alexmeeting started with our office
manager, kathleen, sending me anemail saying there's
opportunity, and when I went tothe website and I saw what Dr
Alex had to offer in 2017, I wasblown away by what was there.

(01:43):
So came I met Dr Alex.
He taught me a lot on my veryfirst day meeting him.
I was lucky enough to be hisdental assistant while in a
master's program and he kept meon the payroll for four years of
dental school.
So super lucky that I had thisopportunity.
We met by chance, but it hasbeen a blessing and now I'm back

(02:05):
at Semiday Dental seeing all ofthe old patients that I used to
help with Dr Alex, and it's oneof those stories you don't ever
hear and I think it's soawesome.
So when patients think thatit's awesome, I'm like I used to
be his assistant and now likeI'm his dentist.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
And now we share an office.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
You've come full circle as they say so, now we
share an office.
You've come full circle as theysay so yeah, wonderful
backstory you guys have.
I mean, let's be honest, right, everybody loves the dentist,
don't they?
Yeah, sure, so one of thethings that I love about your
practice and that I've noticedfrom early on, is just how
you're doing things a little bitdifferently with Semi-Day
Dental.

(02:43):
Dr Alex, why don't you talk alittle bit about the practice
and kind of what distinguishesit from maybe other dental
practices that are out there?

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Well, I feel like with Semi-Day Dental it's we are
a very patient-centeredpractice and we really tried to
take every aspect of the patientexperience into account, from
the initial phone call to howthe practice looks and feels and
smells when you walk in, to theway you're greeted and I know

(03:16):
everyone listening to this hasexperience going to any sort of
medical facility and reallygetting that sort of cold
reception.
It kind of feels like you'rejust a number in the system.
Right, that was the antithesisof what we were looking to
accomplish and provide atSembade Dental.
You remember that old show,Cheers Indeed?

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Remember the tagline where everybody knows you Thanks
, brother Thanks.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Yeah, well, you know it happens.
So that was really kind of thefeeling that we wanted to bring
our patients at Sun Bay Dental.
You are greeted by name, weknow who you are.
We take the time to get to knowyou and know what your goals
are, and not just give you aprescription that is one size
fits all.
Right, we try to tailor how wecan help, depending on who our

(04:12):
patient is.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Yeah, absolutely, and one of the things I will say to
that sometimes you want to gowhere everybody knows your name
from Cheers.
I've been to many dentists inthe past and before I go I often
feel very anxious about goingand the whole experience can be
less than pleasant.
I recently came in to see youand you helped me out with a
crown that had popped off and, while it still wasn't

(04:35):
necessarily looking forward togo to the dentist, the process
that you, I felt welcome.
It was a welcoming environment,I felt comfortable and it made
that process very, very seamlessfor me, which I greatly
appreciated.
Somebody that's had and we'renot going to get into it but
traumatic dental history in thepast.
I want to go somewhere where Ifeel comfortable and I think

(04:55):
most patients out there feel thesame way.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Right, yeah, dentistry in particular is a
very I'm sorry, dentistry is avery vulnerable environment.
Right, you're leaning back withyour mouth open.
You should be in an environmentwith people that that that you
know, that you trust and whereyou feel comfortable.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
We have people who come in with a lot of anxiety
and they leave saying like Ican't believe I'm saying this,
but like I, I'm happy tocontinue to come.
And it's a very rewardingmoment when a patient goes from
anxious and know bad pasthistory and then they're like I
like coming here, like oh, Istill.
So we don't want people to tellus how much they hate us every

(05:39):
time they come.
So I think seven day dental hasdone a great job with
aesthetically providing theenvironment like we don't smell
your typical medical sterilefeel.
Um.
And then the people on on theteam.
Doc, I gotta to say they're ahuge fact of how patients feel
when they walk in this door, youknow 100 percent.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Yes, I'll speak to that too as a, as a as a patient
.
You know your office manager.
She is absolutely fantastic.
She's helped me tremendouslytrying to with actual finding
insurance plans for myself.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
She's been very Kathleen she's an absolute rock
star and really in many ways thebackbone of the practice.
So, dr Tartt, why don't youtake a minute and kind of run
folks through the team?

Speaker 2 (06:25):
I would love to brag about the team.
So you guys had alreadymentioned Kathleen.
She's the office manager.
She's the whole reason I got towork here.
So shout out to Kathleen.
But by side Kathleen we haveour director of first
impressions, Alyssa.
She's wonderful, Big smile thatyou'll see when you come in or
when you give a phone call.
Those two are kind of the go tohelpers, who will help you get

(06:46):
into the office and make it asstress-free as possible.
Once you get to the back, that'swhere you see the clinical team
.
We have two amazing hygienists.
We have Damaris and we haveLisa.
So, depending on what day ofthe week you like to come to the
dentist, you'll see one of thetwo.
They're both amazing.
I trust them with my teeth.
So five stars, literally onGoogle, five stars.

(07:06):
Then we have our assistant teamthat keeps Dr Alex and I on our
toes in the correct room thatwe're supposed to be in.
So we have yes, they are, youknow, Kathleen runs the office
and the back team.
They really keep us running.
So shout out to the backassisting team.
We have Alexis, we haveJennifer and we have a new team

(07:29):
member who just got on boardnamed Bria.
So without them, I think me andDr Alex wouldn't be able to
find anything.
So they are, they are angelsand are our work hard worker
bees of the office, and thatdefinitely, definitely heartbeat
right If Kathleen keeps thestructure going.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
They are the heartbeat that that keeps
everything moving right.
Without them, it would be avery, very different experience.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
And you know the back team and the front team.
They are not only doing theirroles, they are the patient's
advocates.
So I want you guys to allunderstand that Dr Alex and I
are going to fight for what'sbest for you and give you all of
your education and you knowoptions.
But they're there to listen andI feel they make the biggest
impact with the patients to tobe your advocate.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
So yeah, well said.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
So, dr Tartt, you shared a little bit about how
you ultimately joined forceswith Dr Alex and kind of come
around full circle.
Dr Alex, why don't you talk alittle bit about your journey?
I know you've had the practicefor some time now.
Looking back, how did you getinto dentistry?
What initially sparked yourpassion for this field?
Tell us a little bit about yourjourney, brother.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Well, it was an interesting story for me.
I call it my quarter-lifecrisis.
I wasn't really sure what Iwanted to do or be, and again, I
have to thank mom.
It was a conversation with her.
Her and she threw out dentistryand the more I learned about it
, the more intrigued I was.
But it wasn't really until mythird year of dental school,

(09:06):
when I sat down with my firstlive patient for my first real
procedure, when I realized thatthis was mom was right again,
this was absolutely what I wasborn to do and I had found my
calling and ever since then it'sbeen.
It's been a journey of discovery, and dentistry is an incredible

(09:28):
field that's constantlyevolving and if you like to keep
learning, it's you know, youget to keep learning your entire
career.
It's amazing.
Keep learning, it's, you know, you get to keep learning your
entire career.
It's, it's amazing, um.
But yeah, you know, since thenit's uh.
I graduated from the universityof florida in 2010, um opened
the practice uh in 2011 and weare just now celebrating our

(09:51):
13th year uh since we firstopened our doors.
So it's's been an incrediblejourney.
It's been an absolute honor anda pleasure to serve our
community and forge therelationships that we have, not
only, you know, with the rest ofmy team, with Dr Tartt, but
with our patients too, and we'vehad patients from day one who

(10:11):
are still our patients, and alot of them have moved away and
will travel from Vegas andBuffalo and they, they, they
keep coming back because this iswhere they feel, this is where
they feel right.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
It's their dental home.
You know we always welcome themto the family and you know, for
some people that might be a anodd description, but we consider
them like, hey, we're here, weare here for you.
Consider them like, hey, we'rehere, we are here for you.
Dr Alex has created theenvironment and luckily, we fill
the environment with the same.
We just need the patient.

(10:46):
We need you to trust us so thatwe can help you get from
wherever you're starting on yourjourney of dental life.
We see people who don't evencome to the dentist.
So you know.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
For a lot of people.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
there's a lot of shame and fear involved, right,
Like the more neglectful they'vebeen right, the more they've
deferred the maintenance, theless comfortable they feel
breaking the ice and coming backright.
I think I think Dr, Part of therest of the team do an amazing
job of kind of bringing downthose walls and helping people

(11:19):
feel feel accepted and welcomed, regardless of where they're at
on their journey, Right.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
And you know Dr Alex, he always brings it all
together when we talk aboutwhere does your, your body and
your health start?
It's in the mouth.
So a lot of people don't evenrealize that they have this
connection between mouth andbody.
They think it's two the mouth.
So a lot of people don't evenrealize that they have this
connection between mouth andbody.
They think it's two separateideas.
But it's a systemic processthat starts in the mouth and

(11:46):
then we see sometimes.
Sometimes we're the firstperson to let you know you have
a different medical conditionstarting.
You know, high blood pressure.
We we check blood pressure inour office.
It catches people off guard, but we're here to take care of
your overall health, not justfocus on one spot.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
Yeah.
So lastly, before we wrap uphere, I know you're very big
into education education issuesbut I don't want to take words
out of your mouth.
Why don't you share with theaudience a little bit about the
motivation behind this platform,right?
Why are we here?
Why are we doing a podcast?
You don't see many.
I haven't seen many podcasts bydentists out there, right?
What's the motivation behindthis and what's the goal through

(12:26):
this platform?

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Yeah, absolutely so.
Really, it's to bringinformation to people, right.
Like the intro says, this is apodcast devoted to all the
different ways that dentistrycan improve your quality of life
, whether that be yourconfidence or your comfort in
chewing the foods that you wantto enjoy, or, like Dr Tartt just

(12:48):
said, making that oral systemiclink and helping you be
healthier and enjoy an improvedhealth span in your life
healthier and enjoy an improvedhealth span in your life.
So that's really this.
This is an incredible platformto bring people information and
help answer questions thatpeople may have and hopefully

(13:08):
help us all enjoy life a littlebit more.
