(00:01):
Do you find yourself tornbetween following your passions
and living out your God-givenpurpose?
In this episode, we only unravelthe mystery of finding harmony
between passion and purpose bytaking a faith based approach.

(00:59):
Hey friend.
Welcome to today's episode.
Last week, we started to talkabout passion and how we can
find things that we arepassionate about.
In today's episode.
We'll be diving into theintriguing topic of passion and
purpose and how it intertwineswith our faith as Christians.

(01:21):
By the end of this episodeyou'll discover how to bridge
the gap between your passion andyour purpose.
So that you can begin to make animpact.
When it comes to living afulfilling life.
Two key elements of income intoplay.
Passion and purpose.
So just like we talked aboutlast week and I really encourage

(01:42):
you to go back and listen tothat episode in case you missed
it.
We said last week, that passionis the fire that ignites us soul
and fills us with enthusiasm.
It is what makes us wake upevery morning.
It is what motivates us.
It is what brings us immensejoy.
Purpose on the other hand, isthe deep sense of meaning and

(02:06):
direction that guides ouractions are not decisions.
I think Bishop TD Jakes said itright when he said that.
Passion is what drives us.
But purpose.
purpose is what guides us.
You know, as Christians, webelieve that our faith provides
a solid foundation fordiscovering and living out our

(02:29):
purpose.
Most of the time.
If not all the time, I know I'vebeen guilty of this And my
friends can attest to this factThat I'm constantly on the
search of what is my purpose.
Lord.
What am I supposed to be doing?
Why did you bring me here?
Why did you put me here?
I can't tell you how many booksI've bought on purpose, I can't

(02:49):
tell you how many videos havetried to find on YouTube.
And I think in my mind, it waslike if I got a better
understanding of what purposewas, then I would find my
purpose.
But it doesn't really work thatway.
Because you first have to get toknow the Person who made you

(03:11):
before you can begin to unraveland discover your purpose, but.
That's a topic for anotherepisode.
So the Bible teaches us in thebook of Psalm that.
We have been fearfully andwonderfully made by God.
this scripture and many otherspoints to the fact that we were

(03:32):
made with intention and withpurpose.
God didn't just make us and putus here just for the fun of it.
And so deep down.
And everyone, Christian on not.
You are constantly on the searchfor that thing that brings you
fulfillment And that is why thispodcast is so important to me

(03:52):
because in finding my passion, Ihave been able to begin to make
sense of what my purposeultimately is.
In as much as passion brings youjoy and you know, all these
things that we talked about inthe last episode, it really?
Isn't everything.
Right.
It is not the full story.

(04:13):
It is not the full thing.
So last week, we talked a lotabout how to find, your passion,
what you're passionate about.
And we spoke about the fact thatseeking God's guidance is
important.
spending time with the holyspirit, getting to know him.
Being able to hear his voice andallowing him to guide you on the

(04:36):
little things so that he canguide you on the bigger things.
We also spoke about reflectionand, making notes of what
activities bring us joy, whatthings we find ourselves doing.
What activities make us comealive.
And the things that you feelnaturally drawn to.
So we discussed many of thesethings because some of these
activities can be indicators ofour passions.

(04:59):
But like I said before, passionalone isn't enough.
It isn't sufficient.
It isn't the full story.
If the Lord created us, youknow, just for us to come and be
here and.
Be passionate about things andbe happy and not let those
passions bless anyone then.
What really is the point?

(05:20):
And that is where purpose comesin.
Your passion needs to align withyour purpose.
Which is ultimately rooted inyour relationship with God.
So just because you found yourpassion does not mean that it
automatically becomespurposeful.
Because until you find God andright your relationship with

(05:40):
him.
Your passion can actually becomesomething other than impactful.
And what do I mean by this?
Let's imagine someone who has apassion for music.
This person is incrediblytalented.
They have a deep love forcreating and performing music.
However, about before thedevelop a relationship with God

(06:02):
and align this beautiful musicalpassion with God's purpose.
They primarily pursued music forpersonal fame, wealth
recognition, But once thisperson finds God and seeks to
right down relationship withhim.
They begin to undergo atransformation.

(06:23):
a renewal of the mind and youwill see that.
The reasons why they wereprimarily pursuing music before,
you know, fame, wealthrecognition, all these things,
those reasons begin to change.
Because they begin to realizethat their musical talent is a
gift from God.
And it is something that shouldbe used to serve.

(06:45):
And uplift others rather thansolely seeking personal gain.
And so with this person's newfound in the faith.
The person begins to use.
His own musical abilities.
Perhaps the lead worship atchurch.
Or even if let's say this personhas gotten to that point where

(07:06):
they are well-known musician.
Or whatever the situation maybe.
This person begins to writelyrics.
That are not only things, peoplekind of relate to.
But lyrics that actually bringpeople healing.
Lyrics that bless people.
Lyrics that begins to shift andtransform people's lives.

(07:28):
You would realize that the kindof music that this passing
creates becomes music thatconnects people to God.
It becomes music that helps atthis experience.
God's presence.
and so you realize that.
This person's passion for musicis no longer self centered.
But rather it becomes a routefor spreading God's love.

(07:51):
And inspiring others to deepentheir faith.
And so by aligning this passionfor music.
With the purpose of serving Godand others.
This person finds a greatersense of fulfillment and joy
that goes beyond that initialpersonal achievement.

(08:12):
And that is all that passion canbring.
For a while for a season, passion can seem to have
answered all your questions and,you know, tick all your boxes.
But after a while when there'sno purpose behind it.
It begins to feel like a mereachievement.
It begins to feel like, okay, soI did this, I'm famous, everyone

(08:36):
knows me.
And then what.
What, what are you doing withthat theme?
What are you doing?
With that respect with thathonor that people give you.
And if you don't have a purposefor what you're doing.
Then your passion unfortunatelydoes not impact anyone.
The point here is that asChristians.

(08:58):
We have the opportunity to useour passions and our talents.
To serve others and bring gloryto God.
Whether it is through our work, our relationships.
Or simply on involvement in ourcommunities.
Our, passion and not purpose canshine a light and inspire those
around this.

(09:19):
In fact, our passion is supposedto.
Be that light that shines anddraws people to us.
And then, our, purpose, which iswhat is guiding, how we are
utilizing that passion.
Is what creates that impact inthese people's lives?
And so when you discover yourpurpose, it becomes the driving

(09:41):
force behind your actions andyour decisions.
It goes beyond your personalfulfillment.
and it extends to serving othersand making a positive impact in
the world.
Now we can tell more and moreabout passion and purpose, but I
just really wanted to make thisepisode short and sweet.

(10:02):
And just bringing our minds tothe fact that.
Just because you found somethingyou're passionate about and just
because that thing brings youjoy.
And just because you are findingsome sense of fulfillment in
that thing today, Does not meanthat.
It is automatically.
Purposeful.
And so we need to really makesure that we are keeping this in

(10:24):
mind.
You know, if, if there'ssomething you're particularly
good at, if there's somethingthat you're excellent at.
You have to begin to ask theLord.
How can I use this to serve you?
How can I use this to serve thekingdom of God?
How can I use this to serve thepeople around me?

(10:44):
And you don't have to start big.
You just have to start smallfrom your little circle.
if you're someone who isexceptionally good at.
Fashion.
Or doing hair, doing makeup, whatever that medium is.
You just have to ask the Lord.
How can I translate this thingthat I'm passionate about?

(11:08):
This thing that I'm good at thisthing that people say I'm
exceptional at.
This thing that people praise mefor.
How can I translate that thing?
into something that does notjust make people happy for.
A moment.
But actually creates a lastingimpact in their lives.

(11:29):
And when you begin to seek theLord, when you begin to ask the
Lord these questions, when youbegin to read the Word.
He will show you.
Listen.
God made you with intention.
He didn't just create you foryou to come and occupy space.
And so why would you feel thatif you went to God and asked

(11:51):
him.
A question.
He wouldn't answer you or hewouldn't tell you why you're
here.
No.
If anything at all?
God wants you to be morepurposeful than you want to be
purposeful.
And so you have to really takeadvantage of the fact that this
is my father who made me, thisis my father who has given me an
assignment.

(12:12):
But until I know what thatassignment is.
I cannot fulfill it.
And we all want to please thefather.
And so it starts by asking God.
God.
I'm really passionate about.
Excellent.
I'm really passionate aboutpersonal development.
I'm really passionate aboutself-improvement.

(12:34):
Can this passion lead to mypurpose.
And if it can.
How can I begin?
To walk in that light.
What things can I do?
to serve others.
What things can I do to serveyou?
And these are the questions thatI want you to begin to ask God.
And trust me.

(12:55):
He will answer you.
And so before we bring thisepisode to a close Remember that
passion and purpose are notopposing forces.
Rather, they are powerful allieson your journey to
self-improvement by faith.
By seeking God's guidance.
Aligning your desires to hiswill.

(13:17):
And stepping out in faith.
You begin to uncover thebeautiful harmony between your
passion and your divine purpose.
And this is what's mostimportant.
If at the end of the day, Yourpassion is not aligning to His
will.
Then you want to take a stepback.

(13:39):
And you want to really make surethat what you're doing is not
something you're doing foryourself.
But it's something that you'reultimately doing for the
Kingdom.
But we'll talk more about thisin upcoming episodes.
So today, I just want to leaveyou with this.
With God.

(13:59):
Your passion and your purposeintertwine to create a life that
is truly extraordinary.
And I hope that you feelinspired to embrace the
uniqueness within you.
And cultivate your talents, butmost importantly, trust.
That God has a perfect plan foryour life.
And I want to pray for you.

(14:21):
That you will come to a placewhere you boldly pursue your
passions.
By asking God questions so thatyou can live out your purpose.
And make a lasting impact inthis world for His glory.
And until next time.
Keep thriving!

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
