Every June, we celebrate bright and beautiful people in the LGBTQ+ community, but Pride Month is more than drag queen bingo and colorful parades – even though they are the best part! Pride Month commemorates years of struggle for civil rights, the ongoing pursuit of equal justice under the law for the LGBTQ+ community, and the accomplishments of LGBTQ individuals.

In this episode, Meredith highlights LGBTQ+ youth and how schools neglect to have queer-inclusive sex education programs. But that’s not all! In the spirit of Pride Month, Meredith also has a big secrete to share with her listeners.

  • LGBTQ+ – an abbreviation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (or sometimes questioning), and others. The "plus" represents other sexual identities, including pansexual and Two-Spirit.
  • Heteronormative – relating to a world view that promotes heterosexuality as the standard or preferred sexual orientation.
  • Cisgender – a person whose sense of personal identity and gender corresponds with their birth sex.
  • Queer – a person who is gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, or otherwise not heterosexual.
