In the premiere episode of Shadows of Siam, we uncover the haunting case of Somkid Pumpuang—dubbed by the media as “The Thai Jack the Ripper.”
A manipulative predator, Somkid charmed his way into the lives of women working in Thailand’s service and nightlife industries, only to strangle them with terrifying precision. Between January and June 2005, five women across five provinces were murdered. He was caught. He confessed. He was sentenced to death.
But justice didn’t stick.
In 2019, Somkid walked free—released on parole under the guise of rehabilitation. Two weeks later, another woman was dead.
This is the story of a serial killer who slipped through the cracks… and the system that let it happen.
🎧 Follow the trail from rural southern Thailand to a nationwide manhunt, as we give voice to the victims, expose institutional failure, and explore how a monster walked free—twice.
