Cheers what's going
on everybody?
Welcome back to the SharpAction Daily Podcast special
episode, episode 1 of the 4 DayBracket Blitz, where we go
through one region of everybracket in March Madness.
(01:15):
So we're going to get itstarted off with the South
region tonight and I'm withChris and Mr Bags.
Mr Bags, we won't go with thefull name.
Fellas initial reactions intotality of the bracket release.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Surprised.
West Virginia got hod.
They're the first ever team tobe unanimously in in all the big
bracket guessing websites, orwhatever you want to call them,
and not be in the tournament.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
I feel like there was
going to be a first ever,
almost no matter what, here.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
No, it was pretty
easy.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
North Carolina's out
and then you're putting in West
Virginia or Indiana or OhioState Ohio State, I mean, it
depends on what metric youwanted to use.
Someone was getting left outand I don't think they were
(02:24):
leaving out the team of the guywho runs the committee this year
.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
I thought you were
going to say the guy who runs
this podcast, but Funny, howthat works.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
No no one.
No one cares about us, bradley,or your Xavier Clowns, whoa.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
We'll get to that
later on.
Yeah, all right.
West Virginia 10-10 in the Big12 in a All right Big 12.
This year, I mean they gotdog-walked in the first round of
the Big 12 tournament toColorado.
So I don't want to hear any man, man, man about West Virginia.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Yeah, this just
proves that it doesn't matter
how many teams the footballplayoff expands to, it's never
going to be enough for somepeople.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Well, yeah, didn't
every prediction have Alabama in
the playoff?
Speaker 1 (03:34):
I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Anyway, let's get to
the games in the South.
Auburn, number one overall seed, and then we got Michigan State
at the two, iowa State at thethree I'm not going through all
these Texas A&M at the four, michigan at the five.
My first initial thought ofthis bracket is that Louisville
(04:00):
got hosed.
A top 25 team Runner up in theACC tournament is the eighth
seed in this region, now theonly.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Then it's followed up
by Creighton being the ninth.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
I mean, yeah, but
let's stick with Louisville here
first.
The only good thing that thecommittee did to them is they
get to play in Lexington, sothey get to go right down the
road.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
They still got to
play one of the toughest game
ones in general in the bracket.
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
I mean, how much of
this bracket being I don't want
to say messed up, but slightlydifferent than it probably
should be, is due to them, therules of them having to space
out all the SEC teams.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
What that you can't
play somebody?
What's?
Speaker 3 (04:53):
the rule?
Yeah, they try to avoidsecond-round matchups.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Well, there's already
one that's going to happen.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Yeah, I think there's
two or three probably, but they
were talking about how there'sno more than four SEC teams in a
region.
They tried to avoid playing inthe second round.
They moved them but kept themin the same seed line to try and
make it so they wouldn't all bein the same bracket section, I
(05:24):
guess.
Okay.
So I don't know how much thatscrewed this up, but I'm sure it
didn't help.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, it's a nugget
to think about.
Also, I think Michigan andTexas A&M got screwed.
They're playing the two bestmid-majors.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Dude Michigan's going
to win that game by 30.
Mid-majors Dude Michigan'sgoing to win that game by 30.
Uc San Diego's tallest playeris 6'8".
Speaker 2 (05:52):
UC San Diego has the
best turnover margin in the
country.
Michigan has one of the worst.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Michigan starts two
centers.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Cool.
Who's going to guard them onthe three-point line?
They're the number onethree-point shooting team in the
country.
Doesn't matter, they're goingto dominate the glass
three-point line.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
They're the number
one three-point shooting team in
the country.
It doesn't matter, they'regoing to dominate the glass when
they miss.
They're never getting anoffensive board.
Who said they're missing?
Have you watched them play?
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Do they make?
Speaker 1 (06:13):
70% of their threes
all season.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
I can look that up
for you.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
It's the only way it
hits.
They make 37 percent they'regonna have to shoot 70 percent
from three, maybe 60.
Make it a close game.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
I mean live by the
three, die by the three, died by
the three.
Carried Oakland througheverything until Gilkey ran out
of gas.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Yeah, but then all
right, joe, you have your same
mindset with Yale and Texas A&MUm no, I think Yield covers a
seven and a half, though what'sthe spread of the Michigan game?
Three, it's three, it's threewow, I'm taking Michigan.
(07:20):
Chris um.
I mean that's that I'm takingMichigan Chris.
I mean that's that daunted.
5-12 matchup show.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
I'm aware.
Do you know if 5 has never wonthe tournament?
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Oh, what was UConn a
7 when they won it?
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Lucky number seven.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Can we get the spread
on the Louisville-Crayton game
Two and a half?
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Louisville.
Yeah, no, I like I mean thefirst two we've talked about.
I guess I just gave my pick forMichigan and A&M, but I like
Creighton plus two and a half, michigan minus three and Yale
(08:15):
plus seven and a half.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Why do we like
Creighton?
They shouldn't even have beatenDePaul.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
I don't like
Creighton.
What have they done this year?
I was going to say who's we?
I think it's just me, my bad.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
I think they moved
the ball really well.
Yeah, the game against DePaulwas tough, but you got to
remember that was a little bitof DePaul Black magic there
going on, and for a team torally back From down 12 or was
it 11 Over0 or on to end thegame, then to win in double OT
to keep your season moving, shows some heart.
It's something not a lot ofteams have.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Then, moving on to
the lower part of the bracket,
whatever you want to call it,ole Miss has got the playing
game with North Carolina and SanDiego State.
I would hope North Carolinawould win both those games.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
I think Ole Miss is
top for the New England credit
for but there's no spread out onthat game yet.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Right, that's going
to be the big question
throughout this whole tournament.
Right, was the SEC that legit?
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Yeah, you're correct,
you got to remember.
They finished conference play500.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Yeah, and the SEC
tournament 500, it's insane.
And the SEC tournament 500.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
It's insane.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
This is what we were
into in football this year.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Is the SEC legit?
I mean to be fair.
We said from the very beginningof the year the SEC was the
best conference in basketball.
It's shown 14 teams.
What was the next size?
Five, six.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
What was it Big East
got in?
Speaker 1 (10:09):
five it's got to be
probably the Big Ten.
Big Ten with Illinois?
Speaker 2 (10:17):
I don't know that's
too much, counting as someone
who holds a Michigan state tomake the Final Four future.
Am I just cooked?
Speaker 3 (10:28):
Yes, I mean, I don't
think you're cooked.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
There's a chance,
yeah that Really fucks things up
, though.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Yeah, I was hoping
for like Duke or Florida, I
really didn't want to.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Dude Auburn's
beatable or Houston.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Is Auburn beatable?
Did they skid into thetournament?
Were you?
No, because they lost to whatthree top 25 teams in the last
five games.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Yeah, but if you're
going to put Michigan State on
that pedestal, then yeah,they're beatable.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
I think last year was
the first year that a team that
won their conferencechampionship won the whole thing
, so usually I stay away fromthose teams but, Mr Hurley
proved me wrong that theredoesn't have occasional.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Yeah, but I don't
think he's got the team this
year.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
But that's, we'll get
to that bags give me one upset,
doesn't have to be spread wiseseed wise in this region,
actually this whole reason shockin terms of seed and to be
spread-wise, seed-wise in thisregion Actually this whole
region's chalk in terms of seedand spread and seed and
favorites.
But I actually like New Mexicoplus four or New Mexico money
(11:57):
line against Marquette.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
That was going to be
my pick also I don't think
Marquette's that good.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
No.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Where is that?
Speaker 2 (12:06):
game.
I think it's out Might be inWashington as long as it's not
Milwaukee.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Yeah, you mean
Marquette.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
This is Ohio, but it
could be wrong.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
No, I don't think
they'd put.
You're not allowed to play atyour home site, Joe.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Yeah, I don't think
so.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
If you're hosting,
you're not allowed to play there
.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Gotcha.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
I don't have it on me
, but I think it's Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Chris, you got
another upset.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
I think so I think
Marquette would be the one I
would go with.
You can try for UC San Diego Ifthey get hot shooting threes.
Michigan didn't look very goodI don't think at all lately but
they won the Big Ten.
But that game against Wisconsinlooked brutal.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Just seems like
Michigan's got that survive in
advance thing going for themright now, kind of like how
Houston does.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
I also think it's
hard to decide based on the last
game.
They played three games inthree days or something.
They're dead.
That's not Michigan at theirbest, but we'll see.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Yeah, I think my hot
take off the bat is that UC San
Diego makes the Sweet 16.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
I don't know how they
do that when they lose game one
by 15.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
That would make it
tough, but I just got hit threes
.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
If you can't stop the
big men, I think they're going
to have trouble.
They're going gonna have toturn it over before it gets
dumped into the post just play azone.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
I mean, they beat my
darling utah state, who we'll
talk about later, but other thanthat they haven't really been
tested.
I thought they'd have one likereal pre-season opponent, san
diego state.
They, they lost, lost toSeattle.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
You know, despite
saying that your Michigan State
team can't probably win thetitle, no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
They just have to
make the Final Four.
That's the future.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Well, they'll
definitely get to the Elite
Eight, because it's a cakewalk,right.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Actually, I like
Bryant to cover the 18.
I don't care about the cover, Iknow, I'm just saying you said
cakewalk.
I like Bryant to cover.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
I think Iowa State's
best player is out.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Bags, are you going
to bet on every game in the
tournament?
Speaker 1 (15:04):
You know what?
I built my bankroll up quite abit.
We went from $300 to $2K in thelast three days.
I kind of want to do the bet$100 on every underdog but I
don't think I'm that stupid withmy money.
Maybe I'll leave out the $16sand $15s and see what happens.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
But those are the big
payouts, if it happens this
year I don't like.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Is SIUE really gonna
beat fucking Houston?
No, is Norfolk State gonna beatFlorida?
No.
Is anyone beating Auburn orDuke?
Probably not.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
I think, you should
do it.
I don't think you should do it.
Highly unrecommended.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
I recommend.
No, I don't think I'm going tobet on every game in the
tournament.
I think what's been workingreally well for me is just
picking out five or six gamesthroughout a day that I really
like.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
I will be doing the
parlay of every game on Thursday
and Friday.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Yeah, I feel like you
have to Throw five bucks on it.
Just have some fun.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
Does anybody scare
Auburn to the Elite Eight?
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Anyone scare Auburn?
No, I mean Michigan.
No, they don't even make itthere.
I could see Yale being a Sweet16 team.
I don't think Texas A&M is thatgood at all.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Yeah, and Buzz
Williams does some
non-conventional.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
There has to be a
couple of these SEC teams where
it's like, yeah, you've had goodyears, but maybe your
conference really isn't thatgood.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
We'll see.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Should we do a pick
per region?
Speaker 1 (17:17):
What, where we pick a
team.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Not like how we do
the picks per episode.
We'll do.
I mean, we can go down the listhere.
No, no, no, we just take onegame we like and we take the
spread and that's our pick forthe region.
I like it so what bags go first?
Speaker 1 (17:40):
So Michigan minus
three.
Okay, I'm going to live in thatone, chris.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Um, I'm going to take
Louisville minus the two and a
half, all right.
And for my pick, I'll take NewMexico plus the points.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Louisville, minus the
two and a half, alright.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
And for my pick, I'll
take New Mexico plus the points
.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
I think that kind of
wraps up the region.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
Yeah, I mean, this
one's very boring to me.
I think the most argumentativething is North Carolina getting
into it.
In my opinion, Granted.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
If you think they're
going to win their play-in game,
and against Ole Miss, then theyprobably should be.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Yeah, and they have
the talent to rattle that off.
I mean they're a preseasontop-ten team in the country.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
So was Florida State
in football last year.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
I mean UNC still
played with Duke for a while in
at least two of their games.
Yeah, one of them withoutCooper Flagg Right, but the one
he was there they were in thegame for most of the game 36
minutes, the final four wherethey didn't show up, which you
(19:05):
can't do at this point.
The most important four minutes.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
I think they went 0
for 12 from the field in the
last four minutes, or somethinglike that.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Yeah, but the point
is they're not playing Duke in
the first two rounds.
You're correct.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
They gotta beat San
Diego State right, or everyone's
just gonna dump on them.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
They don't beat San
Diego State.
They are the team everyonethought they were.
They were a playing team.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Yeah, that's true,
that's true, that's true, but uh
, oh, also podcast news, joe.
Uh, did you see who got firedtoday?
Speaker 1 (19:51):
today no Cal Neptune.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Villanova head coach
uh, I think a coach in this
region will replace him to setup the ultimate storyline in the
Big East next year.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
I think that was
yesterday, wasn't it yesterday?
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Yesterday today.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Yeah, whatever, same
thing One of the days who's?
Going to replace him.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Rick Pitino's son,
Richard, out of New Mexico, I
think is going to take that job.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
Interesting.
We're going to have a Patino inthe Big East.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
The Patino battle in
the Big East.
I think it'll be great.
Sounds great.
Chris, you got any stats fromany teams in this region that
you like?
Speaker 3 (20:34):
No, I do not have
anything lined up for this.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
The only thing that
I'll share is that turnover
margin.
Uc San Diego is the best teamin the country and Michigan's
very turnover happy, so I'minterested to see how that game
plays out.
Joe, have the times beenreleased yet?
Do you know?
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Kind of halfway.
Some things have them atwhatever, like Hard Rock has
them at different times in ESPNright now I mean your first.
I just want to know Michigan'ssupposed to play UC San Diego at
10 Eastern on Friday on on.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Thursday.
I mean I might just have totake PTO for this whole March
madness, the first week.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Thursday I'm working
in the shop.
I'm pissed.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
It is what it is well
, no other thoughts with this
region no, it's the one or thetwo coming out of here, right,
yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Iowa State's not good
enough to go on a run,
marquette doesn't have theoffense, a&m's too wishy-washy.
The only the only non one ortwo that I could see is if
Michigan gets hot, those bigs ifthey can, and Dusty May in
March taking FAU to a Final Four.
He's been there, but I presumethis will be Auburn easily.
(22:13):
But hopefully Michigan Statesneaks in there, because FanDuel
took away my cash out.
They took it away.
Yeah, it got up to 200 beforethey lost in the Big Ten
tournament.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Don't blame you,
don't blame them.
They're not giving me the cashout.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
But Alright,
everybody, thanks for tuning in
to this brief to the point, first March Madness Blitz
episode.
We will be back tomorrowbreaking down the next region,
so we hope you enjoy this quickturnaround and we will talk to
you tomorrow.
Cheers.
