In this episode, Sofia interviews Kato Murakami, a retired law enforcement officer with 28 years of patrol experience in Illinois. As the founder of Rectitude Training, LLC, Kato is dedicated to equipping both officers and civilians with practical, effective defensive tactics. At the Combatives Summit, he leads Fight to and Over the Gun: Disarming Techniques for Violent Encounters, a course focused on disarming violent actors and maintaining control in critical situations. His scenario-based training allows participants to safely practice neutralizing threats.
With extensive experience as a defensive tactics, firearms, and scenario-based instructor, Kato also holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, earned under Professor Mark Vives. Beyond his own department, Kato consults with law enforcement agencies to enhance their training programs and reduce injuries among officers and suspects. Recognized by the Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency (IRMA) in the Chicagoland area, Kato is also an ILETSB Certified Instructor with four state-certified courses.
