Speaker 2 (00:23):
Now we're going to have some fun, so let's get
started.
Well, hello, this is Kimberly,it's episode 300.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Oh, my goodness, and I am so glad that you are here
today.
This is a fun episode becausewe're talking about something
that I think a lot of peoplethink is fluffy and unnecessary.
We're talking about whether youactually need self-care and
that word self-care even I thinkit's kind of cringy.
Like we need self-care andyou've seen all the memes and

(00:55):
all the girls like drinkinggreen juice and like having a
spa day and those are greatthings.
But I want to be realistic.
Like, do we need self-care?
And if we do, what actuallydoes that look like?
Without being this like fluffy, egotistical, vain treatment of

(01:15):
ourselves versus what actuallyis going to help us show up in
our business effectively?
We're going to talk about thistoday.
I think it's very important and, again, if you don't like the
word self-care, I'm with you.
It's a little bit cringey to meat times, but I have to say, if
you cannot show up in yourbusiness effectively, like you

(01:41):
cannot pour from an empty cup,you know how much is being
poured out of you every day inyour business.
And so in this episode we'regoing to dive into what it
really means to take care ofyourself and why it's not
selfish, it's actually smart.
If you're new here, welcome.
I'm so glad that you found thispodcast.

(02:01):
I have no doubt it's going tohelp you along your business
journey, whether you're in theidea stage, starting or growing.
Whether you're starting apodcast for your business,
whatever it is, I'm so happyyou're here.
This is for you.
This is to give you theconfidence and the business
skills that you need to buildyour business dream.
Now, if you're new, you need toget plugged in right now.
I have free resources for you.
I like to call them partyfavors, but they are resources

(02:24):
that are going to help you thatare free.
Okay, just like this podcast isfree, I've got some printables
and things that you can startusing right now, so you can

notes.
Okay, you will see a link tothe free resources for you.
If you're in the idea stage,I've got a printable guide for
you to help you kind of figureout what idea might be good for

(02:48):
you.
If you're in the starting stage, I have a 16-step checklist for
starting your business that youput on your desk.
It's super handy.
I'm sharing with you exactlywhat you need to be working on,
right.
If you're trying to grow yourbusiness, I have something for
you.
If you're starting your podcast, so make sure you check it all
out.
You want to get your freebies?
Don't leave without your littlebag of goodies, okay, so make
sure you get those and getplugged in.
I do have a Facebook group aswell, called Women Starting

(03:10):
Businesses and Podcasts Doingwhat we Love.
So if you want to join that,I'm in there periodically and
would love to respond to whatyou are doing.
I love seeing what you commentabout, what you ask about, and I
love to help.
So make sure you check that outas well.
And if you've been listening awhile, thank you so much to all

(03:30):
my loyal listeners.
Y'all are wonderful and amazing.
And today, because it's the300th episode, I thought I would
read a review.
So here is a review from HD'sLegacy.
It says it's titled how thisPilates Structure Took the Leap
and Opened Her Own Studio.
Okay, she meant instructor.

(03:50):
Okay, how this PilatesInstructor Took the Leap and
Opened Her Own Studio.
It says I love, love, love.
Kimberly's podcast.
This is the first podcast onwhich I've heard her do an
interview and I particularlyenjoyed it to hear success
stories of someone doing whatKimberly has talked about many
times, and hearing how she tookit step by step and succeeded
was so inspirational to hear.

(04:10):
I hope Kimberly does many moresuch interviews from her success
stories.
That is so sweet.
Thank you so much.
Yes, I loved the episode aboutthe Pilates instructor.
It was a great one because itreally shared how you can even
start a physical business, likea physical store location, and I

(04:30):
just think it's so good to hearwhat you can accomplish.
Many of my clients are onlinebusiness owners, like coaches,
service providers.
Some are product sellers, butsome are store owners as well,
but some are store owners aswell.
I've never had a store, but allof these tips can be used for
you.
If you're starting a mobilebusiness, a store, you're having

(04:51):
some kind of mobile booth.
This is all for you, again, togive you the confidence and
skills that you need to buildyour business dreams.
So thank you so much from HD'sLegacy.
I really, really appreciate itand if you've been listening a
while and you find value in thispodcast, would you be so kind
to write a quick review?

(05:12):
Okay, it takes 30 seconds.
Like, if you're an Applepodcast you can hit five stars.
Like that takes you a half asecond, but if you could write
out maybe an episode that youliked or something that really
inspires you from this podcast,I would love it.
It would mean the world to meand I can't help but think that
it helps Apple and the otherplayers see that this is a
valuable podcast and show it toothers like you.

(05:32):
So that's it, okay, on to theepisode.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Well, hello everyone.
How are you?
How?

Speaker 3 (05:44):
is your business going?
I am so excited for you.
I love getting the updates fromclients, from my group members,
from people in the Facebookgroup, from messages.
It just makes me so happy thatyou are gaining the confidence
to actually build your dream.
I think it's just so wonderful.
And there's so many people outthere that never do this, that

(06:07):
won't ever pursue somethinggreater for their life.
And you're different becauseyou're gaining the courage to do
this.
And it's scary, but you'redoing it anyway.
So I'm so excited for you.
Today's episode is gonna be funAgain, celebrating 300 episodes
.
I can't believe it.
My oldest daughter, lexi, wasasking me the other day wait,
you've been doing 300 episodes.

(06:29):
And I'm like, yes, every won'teven realize the time that is
gone, like it's fascinating,it's bewildering, it's amazing

(06:49):
to to have these accomplishmentsright, and I don't want you to
give up on yourself ever, like, just go for it, just start, just
get this thing going.
But today's topic again issuper fun.
Let's be honest.
When you're running a business,especially if you're doing most
of it on your own, it's easy toput yourself at the bottom of

(07:09):
the list.
There's always something to do,someone to help.
You're trying to hit certaingoals.
But here's the truth you areyour business's biggest asset.
You're the most valuable assetto your business and if you're
exhausted, if you're burnt out,if you're running around like a
chicken with your head cut off,if you're running on empty, if

(07:31):
you're stressed, if you're abasket case, if you're an
emotional wreck, if you're allthe things, your business is
going to suffer.
It's the fact.
It's the fact of the day thatyou, your business, will suffer.
If you are suffering in a waythat you may not even consider

(07:53):
suffering, you may not considerall the stresses that you have
in your business as suffering,it is because you're not your
best self and you're runningyourself ragged, right.
But here's the deal Some of you, you're working on your
business.
You're doing all these things.
You may think that taking timefor yourself is like a luxury or

(08:17):
like it's lazy, but if you'realways operating from depletion
right, low on energy, stressedout, grumpy, not knowing what to
do, you will start to resentthis very thing that you were
excited to build.

(08:37):
You will actually start toresent your business.
You will not have fun.
Actually start to resent yourbusiness, you will not have fun.
You will go to record yourpodcast or create your product
listings on your website, orstart working on some kind of
printables, or start working onyour stuff, and you will
actually resent it and you won'twant to do it.
Okay, I don't want thishappening to you.

(09:01):
Okay, if your energy, yourcreativity or your clarity about
what the heck you should bedoing is running on empty, no
strategy or planner can fix you.
You are going to need to fillyour tank.
You're going to need to fillyour tank.

(09:22):
It's a hard pill to swallow forsome of you who are go, go, go,
right, and I like to say, likemy program, grow Getters, like
that, you're a go-getter, right,we're all go-getters, we, we
actually are.
You wouldn't be here if you'renot.
But what can happen is you cango, go, go and you can deplete
all of the fuel in your tank, right?

(09:42):
So so let's clear this up.
First of all, self-care isn'tsmall days and green juices.
Okay, that is a great thing.
Maybe you do need that, butthat's not actually what I'm
talking about, okay, it's reallyabout creating rhythms in your
business that protect yourselffrom that suffering, okay, that

(10:03):
fuel your body and mind and keepyou in a creative zone so you
can be the best business ownerthat you can possibly be.
It's also not about doing lessnecessarily, which we will get
into, but it's about doing thethings that actually support
your brain and your emotionalhealth, your physical health,

(10:25):
your mental health, so that youcan keep going without burning
out and without completelyblowing up this business that
you were so excited to build.
Okay, so today you can see thatthis is important, right?
You can hear me loud and clear.
I am one of those people who isI don't know if I'm super good

(10:46):
at self-care, and even the wordself-care it's just kind of
cringey.
It's become overused.
It can have a negativeconnotation.
Like I'm just picturing a girlwith like all her makeup taken
off and she's got like aheadband going across her
forehead, you know, so she canput on like a face mask.
Like when I think of self-care,literally that's the image that

(11:06):
comes up in my head.
Like does an image come up inyour head?
Like I'm picturing a girl in arobe, her hair up on top of her
head and like a messy bun andlike a headband over her face
and she's like cleaning with nomakeup on, cleaning her face and
she's like putting a green mudon her face.
Like that's what I pictureAgain.
There's nothing wrong with that.
Let's take care of our skin.

(11:27):
I think we should.
But today I'm talking about youas a business owner, what you
need to be doing to take care ofyourself.
Okay, these are things that Ihave lived by that help me every
day most of these and I thinkthat they will massively help
you Y'all.
You literally cannot burn thecandle at both ends.

(11:48):
If you're one of those peopleright now, I want you to pay
attention to this episode andrealize that you are going to
have to take charge of yourselfand put boundaries on yourself.
I always say, kind of, come outof yourself and imagine you're
talking to a really good friendwho is doing what you are doing.
Okay, so like, act like you're.
Come out of yourself andimagine you're talking to a
really good friend who is doingwhat you are doing.
Okay, so like, act like you'recoming out of yourself and
you're looking at you and you'relike girlfriend.

(12:10):
You are wigged out, like, areyou even taking care of yourself
?
Like what is happening rightnow?
Like, imagine talking to you asanother person looking at you.
It's scary, it literally isscary when you look at it and
it's just an aha moment becauseyou realize, like I already know
what I need to be doing, buttoday we're gonna be talking

(12:31):
about it.
Okay, let's talk about thesethings.
I'm giving you 1, 2, 3, 4, 5things.
Okay, I just wrote these down.
These are very important 5things that you can do to take
care of yourself, okay, as abusiness owner, so that your
business doesn't blow up andimplode.
Okay, number one I believe I dothis almost every day is I

(12:54):
exercise.
Y'all need to be exercising.
I don't know who needs to hearthis today.
Whoever you are out there whodoes not exercise on a regular
basis, I want you to try it,starting today.
Today, like now, if you'relistening to this episode and
you're cleaning the house, youactually are getting a little

(13:17):
exercise.
But if you're in the car whenyou get home, will you maybe put
on your headphones again, listen to an audiobook, put on
some music, listen to anotherone of these podcast episodes of
mine and go on a 20-minute walk.
You could listen to one of myepisodes on a walk.
Most of the episodes arebetween 20 and 25 minutes.
You could put the leash on thedog and you could take your dog

(13:40):
for a walk.
Double dip on that.
Make your dog happy, make youhappy.
Maybe you could triple dip.
You can listen to anotherepisode of the she's Just
Getting Started podcast and nowlook what you've done state.
It makes you feel better.
It releases dopamine, itreleases those feel-good
hormones.
It actually can curb hunger, like walking.

(14:11):
Now some of you are like I don'tlove to walk, I love to run, I
love to bike, I love to playpickleball, I want to play
basketball, I want to go do aHIIT workout, I want to go to
F45.
I want to go to Orange Theory.
I want to do all these thingsand do it.
Do it Whatever makes you happyRight now, just because of my
autoimmune stuff and my back isall whacked out.
Walking is my BFF, walking ismy friend.

(14:32):
I walk most days at least fourmiles.
I do.
I put on audiobooks Before Idiscovered my very first podcast
, which was Serial Podcast.
Did y'all listen to this yearsago?
This was before I launched thispodcast.
It literally changed my lifebecause I've been listening to

(14:53):
the same music playlist foreveron walks and runs and when I
discovered podcasting, Iliterally was listening to
Serial and went around aneighborhood and it was like 45
minutes or an hour and I waslike what the heck just happened
.
I don't even know where thathour went.
It was the greatest moment whenI discovered podcasts.
So you've already discoveredthem.
You're ahead of me.

(15:13):
Stick your headphones in, makeit a date every day, y'all.
I've got 300 episodes.
Now you can go back and startlistening, put it in your ear
and go on a walk for 20 or 25minutes.
Heck, listen to two and go on awalk for an hour.
I'm telling you it flies by andyou can double dip with your
dog and you can triple dip bylearning.

(15:35):
But know that exercising willreduce your stress level.
It makes you feel good andactually I find that walking
does not increase my hungerduring the day.
So I know some people are likebut then I'm gonna start being
more hungry and I'm gonna eatmore.
Let's not worry about thatright now.
I actually find that it itsuppresses my appetite.

(15:56):
I may be hungry after I walk, but throughout the day I'll
notice a difference that I'mjust not, as it's not making me
as starving.
Okay, you should exercise everyday.
This is a given.
This is good for your heart, this is good for your soul, this
is good for your mind, it'sgood for everything, whatever
exercise you like to do.
But again, you can start withwalking.

(16:18):
It is amazing to do and it willchange your life.
I'm not even kidding, okay, andyou know what I do.
I take my dog for two miles, come back home, dump him off and
go back out for two miles, andmy dog is a little scrappy
little dog and is wild on thewalk, so it's a big pain when I
take him.
It takes me a lot longer, but Ido it anyways.

(16:40):
Okay, I don't know why I wantedto tell you that, but I just
wanted to tell you that becausesometimes it is a lot of work
with your dog, right?
And some of you that have bigdogs may think it's a lot of
work too.
Okay, number two y'all you needto eat.
Well, do I need to talk aboutthis?
Everyone listen to me right now.

(17:00):
You need to eat in a way thatmakes you feel good, whatever
that is.
I have some people tell me thata low-carb diet makes them feel
good.
I am the person that likes awell-rounded diet.
That's when I feel my very best.
I have all the food groups andI'm a happy person and I feel

(17:22):
great and I can think and I can.
That's what I do.
Other people are, you know, on?
Do you remember the Zone diet?
Then there's the Paleo diet,the Mediterranean I don't even
know if you need a diet.
I literally think you couldjust start.
If you don't know where to startwith eating better, this is

(17:42):
what I would do.
I would add protein to whateveryou're doing, and you don't
have to have protein, you know, like a ton of protein at every
meal.
I would just add some extraprotein because that will make
you feel satiated, right, and itwill support your muscles and
all of that stuff.
And then I would say, add somevegetables, vegetables and

(18:04):
fruits to your diet like goodones and go from there and try
not to eat so much manufacturedfood.
I mean, that's the rule ofthumb Less manufactured food,
more real food.
And you want to know the realsummary Real food.
Just eat real food Meats, fruits, vegetables, anything.
That's just real food that Godmade Eat.
That that's what I say if youwant to start.

(18:27):
I am not a nutritionist, so donot take what I say as a doctor
or nutritionist.
I'm trying to give you a placeto start and to me that's the
easiest way to start.
Just cut out processed food ifyou can.
I still eat it on a daily basis.
I just don't eat that much ofit because I'll go crazy and
it's not practical.
You're going out to lunch withfriends.
You're doing stuff on theweekends.
You're going to eat somethingthat's processed.

(18:48):
You're going to eat somethingthat's processed, but just make
it a small part of your dailyfood intake.
Y'all, please, eat well.
Don't be eating junk food allday long and chips and french
fries and all the stuff.
They are good, I do have them.
I do have them.
But I'm telling you, withexercise and just eating right,
like starting there workswonders for your mood, how your

(19:10):
brain thinks.
Your brain needs energy tothink okay, and you really need
to assess how you're eating, what you're putting into your
body, okay.
So number one was exercisingevery day.
I exercise intentionally sixdays a week and the seventh day
on Sundays.
It's always debatable what I do.
I may go play pickleball withmy husband, I might take the dog

(19:33):
for a little bit of walk, but Inever count it, and then
sometimes I just don't doanything.
Maybe I go to Costco and walkaround for a while and I go to
the mall, but I'm still active, right, so we're gonna exercise
every day.
We're gonna eat well.
Number three outsource whatabsolutely drains you.
Listen to me right now what isdraining you in your life?
Outsource it.

(19:53):
I don't know what it is for you.
I usually say I think I said iton the last episode you start
with your personal tasks thatare draining you.
If it's cleaning the house, ifit's grocery shopping, there are
alternatives.
You can hire a maid.
You can order Instacart, whichI do.
You can order HelloFresh, whichI do, for two meals a week,

(20:16):
because I don't want to think ontwo days of those week when I
you know the week when I'mtrying to figure out what to
cook for dinner.
Okay, you can do things likethat.
You don't like yard work?
Hire a yard person.
You don't like cleaning yourpool?
Get a pool person for that.
You don't.
You can't manage your kids Likeyou're going crazy.

(20:37):
You can't work with your kids.
Hire a nanny.
I did that with my third child.
I hired someone to be at myhouse and tend to my little one,
ava, who's now 16, while I wasworking out of my home.
Okay, so then move to yourbusiness and go.
Okay, what's draining me reallybad.
Is it?
Graphic design?
Is it all the numbers and taxesand financials and bookkeeping?

(20:59):
Outsource it.
Get someone to help you.
Stop draining your tank ontasks that are making you crazy
and grumpy and crotchety and madand resentful of your business
every day just because youdidn't have the strength to

(21:19):
outsource it.
Y'all this comes down to you, your strength, your ego.
This is your ego talking to you.
Outsource it, okay.
Outsource what drains you.
Quit being a control freak thatyou've got to have your hand in
every single thing and be thehero.
You already are a hero.

(21:42):
You already are Superwoman orSuperman.
You already are that You'restarting a business on top of
your whole entire life, everything else that you have
going on.
Outsource what drains you, okay.
So what was number one?
Exercise every day.
Number two eat well.
Eat in a way that makes youfeel good not crashing, not

(22:05):
grumpy, not starving.
In a way that makes you feelgood.
Outsource what trains you.
That's number three.
Number four connect with otherhumans.
Connect with other humans.
I don't care how you do it.
Bunko, in your neighborhoodgirls night meeting up.

(22:27):
Here's another quadruple dip.
You could have a friend meetyou to go on a walk.
Well, I guess it would still bea triple dip because you
wouldn't be able to listen tothe podcast.
So not only would you getexercise, you could walk your
dog and you could meet a friendon your walk.
Y'all could go on a walktogether.
That's a way you could be withanother human.

(22:48):
Y'all do things to have friends.
Don Don't isolate yourself.
You can also have businessfriends.
You can go to networkingmeetings and you can do things
like that.
Have a friend over and watch astupid show together.
Go to a movie.
Go eat.
Meet some friends out forbrunch.
You could do coffee.
You could do a 9 am coffee.

(23:09):
Go meet your friends.
You could go exercise togetherat a gym or at an F45.
So you're double dipping you'redoing exercise and you're
seeing friends.
Depends on how much time youhave.
We all know the value in humanconnection.
God did not create us to bealone.
If you are sitting therelistening to this saying I'm

(23:31):
isolated, I hardly have anyfriends.
Number one know that.
It's okay.
There is a lot of people whohave been going through that.
It is just a new thing that wehave now, because we all
communicate via phone and we cansee people online.
We don't have to physicallymeet up, to catch up with people
, okay, and so it's actuallyhurt us, and so we have to make

(23:54):
an effort to meet up with otherpeople, be out and about, do
things, have friends, go to likea little happy hour, a little
brunch or a little coffee, whatever it is.
Connect with other people.
It will make you so happy, itwill get your mind off your
business, it will bring you joy,it will make you feel like you

(24:14):
have belonging.
If you don't have connection, you have taken away the one
thing that God wanted for you.
That's why he created us so wecould enjoy with him this
beautiful planet.
Right, it's never fun to bealone.
Even God didn't want to bealone.
He created animals and humansto enjoy the magnificence of

(24:42):
this earth.
And you were made to havecommunion with other people okay
.
To have community, to be withothers and have friendships Okay
, go to your friends.
Kids, baseball game, like, whatever it is.
Do something fun that buildscamaraderie with other humans,

(25:07):
okay.
So that's, that's number four.
And then number five giveyourself space to think so you
could actually triple dip on thewalking like I was talking
about.
You could go on a walk withyour dog.
So you're getting exercise, you're making your pet very
happy.

(25:27):
But you could also not wearheadphones and do not listen to
my podcast and just giveyourself space to think.
My best ideas come when I amwalking and another time is when
I've just woken up.
That's when I'm my mostcreative.
Okay, your brain kind of goesin a different state.

(25:48):
So if you don't have headphoneson and you just walk around,
you listen to the birds chirp, you say hi to your neighbors,
maybe you walk your dog, you'redoing a great thing for yourself
, my friend.
You are giving yourself spaceto like, think and to like, as
you know.
Again, as you're on a walk, your endorphins are going, your

(26:08):
brain is moving, your blood isflowing.
You will feel more at peace.
It is like God's naturalantidepressant.
The sun outside maybe even it'scloudy, it's just the outdoor
air does so much for you andthat can be a way to have space
For you.
It may be having a cup ofcoffee sitting out on your patio

(26:31):
.
That is beautiful and wonderful.
Maybe it is going to a coffeeshop by yourself and just kind
of sitting there and thinking.
I just keep thinking about, like when I need to think about
my business really hard, orthinking about something I
literally automatically go to.
Okay, I'm just going to go on awalk, even if it's with coffee
in hand, like really slow, likefor some reason, I know that

(26:57):
when my blood gets flowing, Ican think better.
So you have to just askyourself am I better just
sitting somewhere and goingdriving to like a spot where I
can look out at a lake?
Or maybe you're near the ocean,or maybe you're near the ocean,
or maybe you like downtownareas, maybe you like your back
patio, a porch, what is it?
Maybe you like to play golf, Idon't know what it is.

(27:18):
Give yourself space to think.
You have to be thinking aboutyour business.
Should I be going in thisdirection?
You can be praying for yourbusiness, which, if you're a
believer, I think you should be.
Of course, you should bepraying for your business.

(27:49):
Right, you could have some timewith the Lord in a yoga class,
but it's kind of hard sometimes, like, if you're in yoga and
you're like trying to do allthese moves, it's hard to like
actually be thinking.
So I just want to make surethat you can do something If
you're going to do somethingactive while you're thinking.
Walking is probably one of theeasiest things, because you're

(28:10):
just mindless.
You know you're not having tothink about walking what you're
doing, you can just think aboutyour business.
You need to think about yourbusiness.
I think some of you arethinking too much all the time,
all day long, instead offocusing just like on what are
the priorities for this week andwhat do I need to get done.
But you know others of you justaren't thinking it at all.

(28:33):
You're just in the hustle, inthe grind and you never step
back.
So step back and give yourselfspace to think about your
business.
So again y'all, self-care ortaking care of yourself,
whatever you want to call it isabsolutely necessary for you as
a business owner.
You cannot be affected.
If you are not in your rightmind, if you don't feel good, if

(28:57):
you are unhappy, if you'rehaving all kinds of suffering in
your life, it's very hard to bean effective business owner.
Okay, these are the things thatI think you should consider as
you enter this journey and asyou look to take care of
yourself, because you are yourbusiness's best asset.

(29:20):
Number one it's exercising everyday, maybe five days a week,
six days a week.
Go for a goal that's more thanwhatever you're doing now.
Number two eat well.
Nourish your body.
Your physical body is a giftfrom God and you need to take
care of it.
Number three outsource whatdrains you, whether that's
personally stuff that's drainingyou, that's on your list or

(29:40):
through your business.
Number four connect with otherhumans.
You were not built or createdto be alone.
Take time to have fun and laughwith other people.
And number five give yourselfbrain space to think.
You need to be thinking smartabout your business.
Okay, I'm so excited you arehere.

(30:01):
I hope this helped you.
I hope this inspired you.
I hope this gives you some newtools.
