Thank you so much to all myloyal listeners and all my

Y'all are amazing.
The progress has just beenamazing, seeing some of you go
from wanting to start a businessor wanting to start a podcast

(02:44):
to now having a very successfulbusiness and a podcast that is
rolling along, that is gettinglistens, that is helping grow
your business.
It is literally the mostrewarding thing to watch all of
you take the courageous steps topursue your dream, and I'm so,
so excited for you.
Today I'm reading a reviewbecause this review touched me.

(03:05):
It was what I needed.
When I opened it, I happened tolook on Apple Podcasts to see,
oh, has there been any reviewslately?
And I don't check it all thetime but this one had come up
and maybe that's why I wassearching for it, to like to see
if there had been any reviews.
So I was just kind of having adown day I don't know what it
was and I read this review andit made me so happy, so I want

(03:29):
to thank you, llemon55.
Llemon55, thank you so much fortaking time to write this.
I'm going to read the reviewreally quick.
It says In my top 3, and I'm anavid podcast listener as one of
those people that hassubscribed to 30-plus podcasts
that's me too, by the way I haveto say Kimberly's is one of my

(03:51):
favorites that I never miss anepisode.
Her energy is infectious onevery episode.
I take something, if not manythings, away from each one.
Thank you, thank you, kimberly, for what you do here.
This means so much to me.
I know when y'all are listeningto these, you may not think that
much of it, but I guarantee, when you're a business owner,

(04:12):
whether you have a podcast, aYouTube channel, you get a
product review, a Google review.
When you get a positive review,it is the best feeling in the
world.
And what's even better is whenyou're having just kind of a
down day and you read somethinglike that.
It totally lifts your spiritsand it gets you moving.
So, llemon55, thank you so muchfor writing this, and if you

(04:35):
have been listening to thispodcast and you find a value
maybe you have 50 plus podcaststhat you listen to, but you
listen to this one regularly andyou find value in it would you
be so kind to write a writtenreview?
Y'all, it means the world to me, it really does, and it tells
other people that this podcastis valuable.
So all you have to do, like ifyou're an Apple podcast, is hit

(04:56):
the five-star rating, then take30 seconds to write what this
podcast means to you, maybe howit's helped you, anything,
anything you want to say.
It means the world to me, sothank you so much.
Okay, on to the episode.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Well, hello friends, how are you doing?

Speaker 3 (05:17):
I'm so excited about your visits and I'm excited
about your podcast too, becausemany of you are starting
podcasts and I think it'samazing.
Well, podcasting is not goinganywhere, as you can see,
because you're listening to onehere and I listen to podcasts
too it's not going anywhere andit's such a great way to connect
with your people.
So, anyways, just had to putthat little plug in for those of

(05:38):
you that have been thinkingabout starting a podcast.
It's not going anywhere and Ijust wanted to also congratulate

(06:06):
my clients that have gottenmoving with theirs.
It's very, very exciting.
Today we're talking about thecoolest concept y'all.
I am just like blown away.
I can't stop thinking about it.
I actually watched a podcast Iguess it was on YouTube with
Benjamin Hardy, who is an author, okay, and I saw it yesterday
morning.
I've got several of his booksWillpower Doesn't Work, he has.
Benjamin Hardy is an author anda psychologist.
He's got his PhD and he hasreally interesting books and a
lot of it is psychological.
But now it's like a lot of itis geared toward
entrepreneurship, which I thinkis really cool.
Willpower Doesn't Work is myfavorite book of his.

(06:27):
He's got a new book out, butanyways, he was on a podcast
online.
I think it was with GrahamCochran, and I was listening to
him and I was like this is huge.
This is huge.
This is a huge concept.
Like everything clicked when Ilistened because a lot of it is
what I've been teaching y'all, but I haven't put it into these

(06:49):
words and you know, authors arewriters and they're good with
words and Benjamin is amazing.
He takes a lot of knowledgefrom other authors and people of
the past.
He's constantly quoting people.
So I don't know that heactually came up with this
concept, but he has his book outnow.
It's called the Science ofScaling, which I just downloaded
.
I haven't even startedlistening to it yet, but I'm

(07:11):
going to.
But I just I was like I have totalk to my people, I'm
recording a podcast anyways, andI sat down and said I'm just
going to talk about it Becausethis concept y'all is huge.
So you probably read the titleabout 10x being easier than 2x,
okay, and I know we all sitthere and go.
Is this like spammy headlines, like what is this?
This is?
This is so stupid.

(07:31):
You know, it's like lose 10pounds in a week, like although
now with GLP-1s, I think peoplecan actually do that.
That used to be a joke, butanyways, I digress, anyways, I

(08:04):
digress.
I'm just saying Y'all this ishuge.
So hear me out on this episode.
I want you to pay attention.
I don't know what you're doingright now.
Are you cleaning the house?
Are you like talking to yourchildren halfway while you're
listening?
Or maybe you're driving andscreaming at your kids in the
back while you're driving?
I don't know.
I need you to pay attention.
I really do.
It's that important.
My episodes are fun and a lot oftimes lighthearted.
They are serious strategictopics, but this one, y'all if
you can get this and if I canput it into the right words
because here I am takingconcepts that have been out in
the world and I am trying towhittle them down and really
tailor them to small businessowners like you and, most
importantly, new business owners.

(08:25):
A lot of you are fairly new, like you're either starting your
business now or you've been inbusiness a couple years.
You may not think of yourselfas new, but that is newer in the
in terms of you know, like I'vehad my businesses for 25 years
now, so I wouldn't call myselfnew, but I think y'all, in the
early stage, you're newer andyou're trying to figure things
out with your business.
I think a lot of you have goalsfor your business, so I want

(08:48):
you to think about it right now.
Let's kind of kick this off.
I want you to think about whatyour goals are for your business
.
If I asked you if we sat down, had some coffee, we sat down and
I said tell me what is your, what are your goals, what do you

(09:08):
want?
What would you tell me?
Would you spout out a moneygoal right away?
A lot of you do.
Would you spout out that youjust want a career that's
actually fulfilling?
A lot of you spout that out.
A lot of you say you want a youknow, a business that's a good
creative outlet.
You want to actually make money.
Some of you have certain moneygoals in mind, like I need to
replace my part-time income.
I need to replace my full-timeincome.

(09:29):
I'd love to go full-time withthis.
Some of you actually say mygoal is to have just a part-time
business and make X amount ordo whatever.
Some of you say my goal is toimpact lives and to make some
money, and I realized that manyof you, or all of you, are in
various stages of life.

(09:49):
So let me just go ahead andpreface this, okay.
So, as you're thinking aboutyour goals, a lot of people do
they get weird because theythink their goal has to be to
build like a bazillion dollarbusiness, like that's what
people think, that I expect youto say and I do not expect you
to say that.
So stop thinking that andactually be honest with yourself

(10:10):
.
When I started my first business, my goal literally my goal was
$500 a month profit, like I waslike, if I can get $500 a month,
I can shop now.
And this was when I had littlekids and I'm like, oh my gosh, I
don't have to ask my husbandNot that I have to ask his
permission, but you know whatI'm saying.
When you're fairly new marriedand then you soon have kids,

(10:31):
you're watching your money,right, you're watching your
money, and so we were alwayswatching our money, and so we
didn't want to just spend it onrando things.
But if I had an extra $500 amonth, we could go on vacation.
It could be anything.
Right, right, right.
So I want to just start this offthat there is no judgment here

(10:52):
and that you are never to say Ineed to make, I want a $500K
business If that is not what youwant, can?
Can we just be really honest,y'all?
There is no shame in saying Iam in a stage of my life, which
is me right now.
I'm in my 50s.
I have clients that are intheir 50s.

(11:13):
We are in a stage of life noone judged this.
We are in a stage of life wherewe don't have to worry about
every penny and that we havesaved during our lives so that
we could be starting to getreally comfortable now.
So it worked, our disciplineworked, and so now we still want
to have a business, we stillwant to have a career, but we

(11:34):
don't have to have all theselofty income goals.
Some of us don't.
Please do not judge, because weall hope that we can be smart
enough to actually get here tothis point where we don't have
to be, you know, penny-pinchingin our 50s.
Now some of you may have to be.
Maybe you're a single parent.
You had a spouse that passedaway.
You are taking on, you knowadopting kids.

(11:57):
Maybe you are taking care ofelderly parents that are living
with you and you do have towatch everything you spend and
this business has to make money.
I'm with you.
I'm right there with you.
My business has had to makemoney too.
My point is let's not judgeanyone else and don't judge
yourself for whatever you say tome back when I say what are

(12:17):
your goals?
Maybe you have many goals.
Maybe you don't really havemuch many goals.
It's more about impact.
It's about making a difference.
It's about having a creativeoutlet, a career, something that
you've been wanting to do, howyou've been wanting to help
people.
Okay, so we get that.
Everyone's got goals.
So be honest.
Be honest Is your goal to havea job that you could work one

(12:39):
hour a day and still make adecent amount of money per week?
I mean, you can say that, youcan say part-time, I don't mind
working four or five hours a day, I just want it to be making
money.
It doesn't matter Y'all.
There's no wrong answer.
There's absolutely no wronganswer.
So I know I'm belaboring thispoint, but I want you to be

(12:59):
honest and to get all the flufffrom YouTube and Instagram and a
bazillion dollar business I'mmaking this right out of your
head.
What are your actual goals?
Okay, so let's think about that.
What are your actual goals?
And then let's let's look atyour goals.
Okay, whatever your goals arefor impact, income, whatever it
is right.
Then let's look at what areyour pursuits right now in your

(13:22):
business.
Okay, what are your likeinitiatives?
What are the things that you'reworking on?
Okay, here's what some of myclients tell me, and you may
fall into this too.
I am just trying to get mybusiness up.
I'm trying to build anInstagram.
I want to build a TikTokchannel.
I want or is it channel TikTokaccount.
I don't even know what you callit.

(13:43):
I'm not on TikTok anymore.
Okay, I want to build a YouTubechannel.
I want to be a really goodpodcaster.
I want to have a store.
I want to be public speaking, Iwant to have group programs, I
want to have retreats, like.
So you're working on sort ofthose things.
Now, don't get this mixed upwith goals, because maybe your

(14:06):
goal before was like I want tomake this much money, I want to
have this and I want to have aretreat, and that's my goal.
I want to have a store, right, this is saying what are you
pursuing right now?
What are all the things thatyou're pursuing right now?
And if I was sitting acrossfrom you, what would you say?
And if you're listening andyou're sitting at a desk, you
can write them out.
Write out your goals, write outwhat your current pursuits are,

(14:30):
what do you currently have yourhands in that comes to your
business?
So when I listened to thispodcast, so just kind of put
that there, sit it there ormaybe pause this if you need to
write those out.
When I'm listening to thispodcast, benjamin Hardy was
talking about 10x is easier than2x, like what this is like

(14:54):
gaslighting all of us, right?
And then let me see if I canpull up the quote.
Bear with me here just a second, okay.
So Benjamin actually is quotingRobert Brault, who is a writer,
he's an author, and and here'sthe quote, I think this is

(15:22):
absolutely genius and I want youto just let this we are kept
from meeting our big goals notby the obstacles, but by the

(15:46):
clear path to the lesser goal.
Okay, I'm going to say thisagain.
And I had to like rewind andlisten and rewind, and I just
sat there in silence.
And I had to like rewind andlisten and rewind, and I just
sat there in silence.

(16:09):
We are kept from our goal not byobstacles, but by the clear
path to the lesser goal.
Okay, just let that sink in.
It's kind of like we're missingthe forest for the trees.
We are pursuing all theselittle things which actually
cause us not to reach our biggergoals.

(16:30):
And you know there's been allthat talk about shiny object
syndrome and things that we alldo.
We're like squirrels and we'rechasing the next thing.
But in your business, if youwant to actually become that
person that has reached thatgoal, if you want to reach that

(16:55):
goal or those goals that you hadthat you just listed out a
minute ago, you're going to haveto look at your current
pursuits and take a majorassessment and realize that you
may see clear paths to all thethings that you're pursuing like

(17:18):
the little things that you'repursuing on a daily basis,
weekly basis, monthly basis.
But you have to ask yourselfthere's a clear path to all
these little things, but thatmay be the exact thing that's
holding you back from the biggergoal.
And that is why Benjamin Hardyhad written a book 10X is easier

(17:40):
than 2X Okay, so that's where Igot that from.
He had written a book 10X iseasier than 2X and he has a new
book out right now.
Okay, that just got releasedthe Science of Scaling.
Okay, so I think it's a summaryof the 10X, so I just again, I
just downloaded the Science ofScaling and I'm going to listen
to it coming up here, hopefullythis weekend when I go on my

(18:02):
walks.
But this concept that the littleeasy things that we're doing,
that we can see the little clearpath to, may be just what is
holding us back from actuallyreaching our goals faster and in
a bigger way and actuallybuilding that big, audacious
dream of our business.
And you have to think about, like as I'm doing, these things.

(18:26):
Are these actually important?
So what I would suggest you dois look at those pursuits and
rate the ones that are actuallygetting you towards your goal
right now.
Like, is this actually gettingyou towards your goal right now?
Like, is this actually gettingyou towards your goal?
And this is what Benjamin hadsuggested that we do.
We look at this list.
We try to figure out the top10% of things that are actually

(18:48):
moving the needle, the top 10%.
So then there's a bottom 90%.
The bottom 90% is going to haveto get sacrificed and we should
only be focusing on that top10% of things that are actually
getting us toward the goal, thebig goal.
So you've got to actually besmart about the goal that you

(19:09):
make, and you've got to berealistic, because then what you
do is if you filter out allthese other pursuits and you
focus on what's actually goingto move the needle and get you
to that goal faster, then youcan non-emotionally just get rid
of the bottom 90% and focus onthe 10%.
And that's where you work from.
You work from the future, thefuture of you, the future of

(19:33):
your business, where you want itto go, where are we headed?
That's what we're doing.
So think about it right now.
In your business you may have alot of pursuits.
Some of you may just be thatyou're doing a lot of things.
Maybe you're just wearing allthe hats, maybe you don't have
that many pursuits, but you areactually doing all the things.

(19:56):
But it's taking away time, it'smaking this process take a lot
longer.
That's when I usually recommendhiring out, getting help for
things.
But today I just want you toget the concept, the concept
that actually going big, 10x-ingyour business, is easier.
It's easier than just kind of2x-ing your business, because

(20:17):
2x-ing there's all these littlegoals that you're trying to get
to.
But to really go big you haveto be discerning about every
single thing you're doing.
Is this actually getting to mygoal?
For me, my goal with my businessright now this is different
than the past is to have a lotof freedom and a lot of free

(20:41):
time and work in a verystreamlined, intentional way
with clients that I'm coaching, workshops that I'm offering,
that.
It's super streamlined and Ihave a lot of freedom in my life
.
That's what I want right now.
Back in the day, when I had myonline boutiques, it was like I

(21:02):
do want to work.
I've got kids at home.
Everything's crazy.
I love it and they go to schoolpart-time and I want to have
this outlet.
I want to build this businessbecause I don't want to have to
go back to work right now.
I want this to be my work, andso my optimization at that time
was for money and ease of beinghome with my children.

(21:23):
Okay, now it's totallydifferent.
I've got a 16-year-old that'sdriving.
We are in a different financialsituation because we were
disciplined all throughout life.
You know our married life andluckily, nothing bad has
happened where you know nodisasters that caused us to lose
money at this point right.
So I have a different goalright now.
My optimization is for the leastamount of work, for the biggest

(21:46):
bang for my buck, right of whatI can do to help people.
That's the honest truth of whatI'm doing right now in my
business.
So you have to think about that.
What are you optimizing for interms of your goal?
Your goal has to actually be anoptimization.
If you are saying I wantfreedom, like I said, like
that's my number one thing rightnow is like my goal is

(22:08):
optimizing for freedom and to beable to travel and do things.
If I decided to start three moregroup programs and commit to
doing something once a week withyou know, speaking at an event
and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, I would take all my time
and this would not be gettingme to my goal.
It wouldn't.

(22:30):
It would not be optimizing forthat.
It would be optimizing forsomething else.
I hope you're sitting here withthis for a minute that your
goal is not only money or impact.
You know the creative outletit's optimizing for.
What in your life Is itoptimizing so that you only have

(22:51):
to work half days in it?
That you could just work theweekends?
That you're optimizing formoney, that you have to be
making a certain amount ofincome.
That's fine, whatever it is,but let's be honest about it,
because that is going to directthe 10% that you work on every
day.
And I totally think this isanalogous to life In everything

(23:12):
that you're choosing personally.
If you're starting a family, youhave to be thinking, hey, what
is my goal for this family?
That my kids grow up, let's say, in a Christian home.
They are close to their family, that they value family time,
that they want to live here, that they want to come back and
see us, that they you know, etc.
Etc.
Etc.

(23:33):
So everything you should bedoing with your family should be
moving toward that goal.
Right, I want them to havehealthy habits now, so that when
they're adults, they have that.
Okay, what are you doing now toinstill healthy habits?
That's just an example, but youcan use this in life.
Right now.
You can say what are my goalsfor my life in like 10 years?

(23:56):
What am I going to beoptimizing for in order to make
that goal?
I want you to be thinking aboutthis y'all.
It actually is easier to 10xwhat you're doing because you
have focus.
You have focus with the end inmind, eye on the price.

(24:16):
You're going toward that onething, and when I say one thing,
it's just like your overallvision for your business.
So everyone today, I think thisis huge.
I'm not going to go into moredetail on it I may do another
episode next week, sort of, inrelation to this but I want you
to think about it.
Are you looking at your businessthat way that realizing that

(24:38):
the bigger goal may actually beeasier than all the little
things you're chasing andpursuing that are a clear path?
The clear path to the lessergoal is actually getting in your
way.
It's getting in your way.
You've got to set yourself upfor success.
Look at all your pursuits.

(25:01):
Try to shave off 90%.
If you can't, can you shave off70% and focus on just what your
big goal is, because that's theway to get there by reverse
engineering this.
Okay, does that make sense?
I'm still trying to process allof this again.
This is this is along the linesof what I've been teaching.

(25:22):
Right, I always teach that youshould have a business that fits
into this season of your life, and I talk about that and being
in alignment with you.
I'm big about that, becauseyour business won't work if it
doesn't fit either of those 2things.
It won't be fun and it won'tactually work for your life and
you'll end up quitting, and Idon't want that to happen, right
?
So this is along the lines, butit's just the overall concept.
To me that just makes it moreclear If I focus on that top 10%

(25:46):
and stop chasing the lessergoals and really go for what's
big, what do I need to be doing?
That's what I need to befocused on, and I have to be
willing to let go of those otherpieces.
I mean, he had given the examplein the podcast episode that I
heard about Steve Jobs, who didnot care about cannibalizing or

(26:07):
getting rid of part of hisbusiness.
For example, the iPod was supersuccessful with all the music,
but when he started seeing thetechnology of the phones, he
realized the iPod needs to goaway because it's going to go on
the phone and I don't care,even though it's been a complete
success.
Bye, bye, we're going to theiPhone.
So that's innovation, right, and that's kind of what you have

(26:29):
