, I have a 16-step checklist tohelp get you going.
I also have some paid workshopsthat you can do on your own
time, like how to create yourmini business plan.
Okay, this is not like the400-page business plan that your
grandma did.
I'm just kidding.
Maybe grandma did not do a400-page business plan, but this

(02:17):
is not some corporate businessplan.
This is like a realistic, doable, actually fun way to map
out your business.
So if you kind of have an idea, you can run it through it, or
if you have several ideas, youcan print out the template and
then you know, watch my video.
There is some of the pay, someof the options.
When you go to checkout willhave the upgrade to the video

(02:37):
Some of it already have included, so just make sure you look at
that when you are figuring outyour mini business plan option
there to check out.

everything to kind of see yourbusiness come to life.

my loyal listeners.

(02:57):
Y'all are amazing.
Y'all are awesome, you'rewonderful, you're grateful and
you know what.
You're driven and you're makinga difference in this role.
That's what I'm most proud of,that all of you have set out to
help people in some form oranother, whether it's just
bringing a smile to their facethrough your business.
Maybe you just sell somethingfun, like games or something, or

(03:18):
maybe you sell something reallyserious, like relationship
coaching, life coaching, anything like that, divorce
coaching.
I've had all kinds of veryimportant topics that my coaches
teach on and help people with, and it's just so wonderful.
So again, all of you span thisspectrum from fun things to
serious things, and all of itstems from your passion to help

(03:42):
people and that's what I thinkis so awesome.
So congrats to all of you and,if you've been listening a while
and you have never rated thispodcast.
Would you be so kind, justsuper quick, to hit the 5-star
rating, like if you're an Applepodcast right now you can hit 5
stars, like, that's it andyou're done.
But if you have 30 seconds towrite a written review, it would
mean the world to me.
I love it when I get feedbackon the podcast, because I come

(04:06):
up with these episodes on my own, I record on my own, I have no
audience, I get no immediatefeedback, and when I do get
confirmation or when I do seethe listens go really high, I
know that that was an importanttopic for people.
But I would love it if youwould leave a review, because I
can't help but think that ittells Apple and Spotify and all
the players out there that thisis a valuable podcast.
Okay, that's it.

(04:30):
On to the episode.
Well, hello friends, how are you?
How is everything going withyour business?
I'm so excited to hear, I'm soproud of all of you.
I really am Excuse me, my voiceis acting weird.
I really am, excuse me, myvoice is acting weird.
I'm just so proud of y'all andI'm just so amazed at the drive

(04:51):
you have to help other peoplethrough your businesses and it's
just.
It's so wonderful to watch andI'm so happy that I get to have
this career and I get to watchyou.
It's awesome.
Today we're talking aboutwhether you should start a
business or not, and today I'mgoing to give you three reasons,

(05:11):
like really good reasons, whyyou should not start a business
and you should actually justkeep a hobby.
I think so many that arethinking about starting a
business sometimes are impulsivein starting their business or
they think this sounds amazing, like it's just laptop life and
they're just going to put theirfeet up in the sand and travel
and like never have to be tiedto anything.

(05:34):
They're not going to have a bus, they can just work whenever
they want 45 minutes a day, andit's just going to be amazing
Y'all.
No one is doing that.
That I know.
They're just not.
They are working on theirbusiness.
Now I want to clarify somethingreally quick for everyone too.
Your business gets to beanything you want it to be.

(05:57):
It can be anywhere from a bigbusiness where you're making
multi six figures great.
It can be anything down to areally small business or even a
micro business.
Have you ever heard of a microbusiness.
Well, I basically threw thatword out last week on the
podcast and I love it because Ithink it allows people to start

(06:20):
out with a really small businessand not feel bad about it.
And I think sometimes gettingahead and if you have to start
it as just like a really smallbusiness and not feel bad about
it, and I think sometimesgetting ahead and if you have to
start it as just like a micro, small business at first, you
don't have to tell anyone it's amicro business, but it's just
kind of it kind of creates thislike what is the word, I don't
know.
It's almost like givingyourself grace and saying you
know what?
I'm just going to start thissmall.
I'm going to do things rightbecause it's a business, but

(06:44):
it's going to be really smallbecause I don't have a lot of
time and I don't have much toput into this business right now
.
But I need to get it rolling.
I need to start getting thewheels turning, I need to start
gaining momentum and figuringout if I actually like this, if
this works, and then I canreally really grow it.
And I want you to know that youhave permission today from
yourself and from me to start abusiness that's really small,

(07:07):
because you may have a full-timecareer, you may be
homeschooling, you may havevolunteer work that you have to
do, you may be doing all sortsof things and you don't have
time, but you know that you wantto try to fit this into your
life right now and you only havea few hours a week.
That's totally fine.
Start it out like that.
I think that that's amazing.
That's totally fine.
Start it out like that.
I think that that's amazing.
But I just want you to knowthat anyone here it doesn't

(07:30):
matter what kind of goals youhave right now for your business
like right now.
I'm not talking about futuregoals, I'm talking about right
now, like your goals forbusiness.
Maybe for you it's to hit sixfigures or multi-six figures,
and maybe for some of you it'sjust to like get this thing
going and start making somemoney, and it's just like a
micro business right now.
But you're, you're, you'removing it along.
That's totally okay.
The good news is you're takingit seriously.
So somehow I got off on thattangent and now I don't remember

(07:51):
how I got here, but today we'retalking about business versus
hobby.
Oh, I know.
What I was probably saying isthat you have permission to
start a really small business.
So some of you, though, arekind of stuck like do I want to
start a business?
Or maybe I should, because I'mseeing that laptop life, I'm,

(08:12):
I'm seeing that this is likesuper fun and I can be my own
boss and do all this, but reallythere's more to it, and so,
today, we're going to talk aboutthese three things.
I think it's going to help youkind of delineate this for
yourself and to decide.
I hope, by the end of this, youmake a decision that's what I
hope so that you don't sit hereand dream about it for years and
years and never do anything, oryou don't sit here and try to

(08:35):
build something that you don'tactually want to build.
Okay, I'm, I'm, I don't carewhat you want.
I mean, I really don't.
I want you to be happy, and ifyou just want another hobby, you
can have another hobby, but ifyou want a business, you've got
to do things right.
So let's just talk about ittoday.
Three good reasons why youshould not start a business.

(08:56):
This is not to scare you.
This is not to push you awayfrom entrepreneurship.
If I can talk today, this iskeeping it real so that you make
a smart decision for you inyour life.
No more wavering, no morestraddling the line.
What is that saying?
My husband says I forgot wherehe got it from Somewhere.

(09:19):
He says it's an ancient Chineseproverb.
I don't know that that's true.
I should probably look it up,but it's like a man who walks
two roads splits his pants.
Thank you, david Brock, forthat.
A man who walks two roadssplits his pants.
So you cannot walk two roads.

(09:40):
You cannot have a hobby and abusiness.
It's one or the other.
Do you want a husband or not?
Do you want a wife or not?
Do you want to own a home ornot?
Do you want to own a car or not?
There's no like.
Either you own a car or youdon't.
You're either pregnant oryou're not pregnant.

(10:00):
That's probably the betterexample.
You're pregnant or you're notpregnant.
Not pregnant, that's probablythe better example.
You're pregnant or you're notpregnant.
That's yeah, that's a muchbetter example.
Like.
There's no like.
You have to make it that start, because if you don't, you run
the risk of this being a hobby,no matter what, even though you
had good intention.
So I want to make sure beforeyou go into all this work, that

(10:24):
if you actually just want ahobby, let's celebrate that.
Hobbies are amazing.
They're good for the soul, theyare a stress reliever, they're
a way to use your gifts.
That's what they are.
They're awesome.
They let you use, you know, your creative abilities.
They're fun, they're cathartic,they're all these things.
Y'all hobbies are awesome andwe can all have many, many

(10:46):
hobbies.
For businesses, on the otherhand, you're probably going to
only have one, maybe twobusinesses probably.
I mean, you could do three.
I did two businesses, butthey're actually very similar
businesses, just sellingdifferent things.
I had them on the same platform.
I had them on Shopify.
I was selling cute boutiqueitems.
One was more niched than theother, but it was basically the

(11:07):
exact same thing that I wasdoing.
I just kind of duplicated it.
So was it two businesses?
Yes, but no, it was actuallyone big boutique business with
two different websites with twodifferent niches, but they were
similar niches.
Okay, I won't go into that now,but my point is you're going to
have to decide are you pregnantor not pregnant?
Are you starting a business orare you starting a hobby?
What are you doing?
Okay, if you already have abusiness and you're listening to

(11:34):
this.
This is a good, just kind offor lack of a better term come
to Jesus, meeting with yourselfto say what am I actually doing?
What am I actually doing?
Am I building a hobby?
Am I building a business?
And remember, if you'rebuilding a business, stop
thinking that you have to makesix figures tomorrow.
Maybe some of you do have to,but others of you are not doing
it at all because of thepressure that is on you and

(12:00):
that's a whole notherconversation too the unneeded
pressure we put on ourselves, and a lot of it has to do with
the marketing that's beingthrown at us.
I'm not going to go into thatRight now.
Some of you won't even start abusiness because you're scared
or you know that you don't havethe time to really build this
awesome big business right now,and so you don't do it at all.
And my point is, for some ofyou, starting really small could

(12:24):
be an option for you, but still, making it a business instead
of a hobby Okay, we're gonna, let's talk about it.
Okay, again, pregnant, notpregnant, hobby or business.
Today's the day we're doingthis.
Okay?
Number one one of the bestreasons why you should not start
a business is if you actuallydo want a hobby Like that's all

(12:49):
you really want.
You want stress-free living.
You just want to go in yourbackyard and plant plants.
You just want to go into yourart studio and paint some art or
make some pottery.
You just want to make jewelry.
You want to make candles foryour friends.
You want to console yourfriends and be there for people

(13:09):
and help people with theirrelationships, but you don't
want any of the drama of abusiness.
More power to you.
Do that, do that.
But if you actually want abusiness, you are ready to do
all that, plus wear a businesshat.
You have to wear a business hatand you have to be willing to

(13:31):
do all the business things.
You have to be willing to putyourself out there, where you
may be worried the whole timewhat people think, or you may be
doing things that are reallyscary scary to you.
You never put yourself outthere you may be worried about.
Are people talking about you?
Are you qualified?
You have to be willing to learnabout marketing.

(13:53):
You do.
You have to be willing to havepeople maybe be upset with you
or not happy Hopefully thatdoesn't happen very often but
you have to be willing to handlethat.
You have to be willing to tryto learn how to actually make
money.
But you have to do that.
You have to be willing to builda business, to build something.

(14:17):
That is a career.
What's a career?
Well, it's a.
I'm going to just put it in myown terms A career is a way for
you to work and make money, doing something, I would hope,
where you can make a differencefor people.
Now, some people have careersthey don't love, but they are
making a difference.
But I think I think a businessis a great way to have a

(14:40):
fulfilling career where you canuse your God-given gifts for
something greater.
And again, it's a career.
It's not a hobby, it's not aphilanthropy, it's not any of
that.
It is a career and you areallowed to have a career that
you really enjoy, even if it'sjust part-time on the side.

(15:02):
You're allowed to have one Ifyou have time, if you have
support from your family so thatit doesn't cause a riff, and if
you have some money to put intoit.
A lot of you will need a littlebit of money at least to put
into it, to kind of get thingsgoing, to get supplies and all
that you have to be willing tobe a business owner, someone who

(15:25):
just wants a hobby, just wantsto do this for fun.
Again, like I said, it'stherapeutic, it's cathartic,
there's no strings attached, youhave no stress of actually
trying to please people.
You can just do it for your owngood, it makes you feel good,
it makes you happy, you're goodat it.
You can get skilled, moreskilled at that specific thing

(15:47):
that you're doing.
Right, some of you just wantthat.
You just want an escape.
You don't difference in thisworld.
If you do, then that's a greatreason to start a business.

(16:11):
But if you just want an escapewith no stress, just go in a
room, close your door, gooutside, do whatever.
Your hobby could be hiking, itcould be biking, it could be
golfing, it could be pickleball,it could be pottery.
It could be biking, it could begolfing, it could be pickleball
, it could be pottery.
It could be jewelry, it can becandles, it can be all these
things that overlap withbusiness.
It could be birdwatching, itcould be swimming, it could be

(16:34):
anything traveling.
But it doesn't mean it's abusiness, it's just something
fun you're doing that is justexciting to you.
Maybe you're a foodie, you liketo go to restaurants, maybe you
like to try coffee, everywhere, you can do that.
But it overlaps with businesswhere you actually build a
career, a career where you aregoing to make money.

(16:55):
It has to make money and youwill have that pressure.
Do you want that pressure?
Again, not to scare you, butthat's part of this.
It's a career, it's not anescape.
I mean business you're runningtoward, I feel, like hobbies.
You're kind of escaping intoyour own little world and

(17:17):
there's nothing wrong with thatand it's beautiful and amazing
and you get to do that.
But if you actually want acareer that's fulfilling and
allows you to use your God-givengifts for greater, then I think
that business ownership is anamazing way to do that.
Okay, so that's number one.
One good reason why not to havea business is that you actually

(17:38):
do just want a hobby.
Okay, that's number one.
Number two one of the bestreasons why you should not start
a business is if you don't wantto learn new skills, if you
don't want to be bad at anything, then don't start a business,
because you're going to be badat certain things.
You're going to be, like, badat marketing in the beginning.
You may be bad at thefinancials.

(17:58):
You may be bad at takinginventory, you may be bad at
anything, but you're going toget better and you're going to
learn and you have to want that.
You have to yearn for thatexpansion of who you are.
You have to want to learn morethings.

(18:20):
You want to have to pushyourself to the limits.
You want to do things for thegreater good.
You have to want this as acareer.
You have to want to learn aboutbusiness ownership.
You have to want to learn aboutmarketing financials, all this
stuff how to sell withoutselling.
You have to want to learn howto talk to people about your

(18:40):
business and know what to say.
You're gonna have to learn howto like, package your offering,
whether it's products orservices, and what your pricing
is.
You're gonna have to learn howto show up regularly.
Oh yeah, you're gonna have toshow up regularly.
You're gonna have to want tolearn how to do that.
You're gonna have to developthat skill when you show up even
though you may feel a littleweird.
You're gonna have to want toget over it.
You're gonna have to want totry for that.
You're going to have to want totry to figure out how you

(19:02):
actually kind of build anaudience or turn people that are
interested into buyers.
You're going to have to want todo that.
Like learning email marketing, you're going to have to want to
do that.
You're going to have to want toevaluate what you're doing and
see if it's actually working andif it's profitable.
You're going to have to want toevaluate your results.
You're going to have to want todo all of that.

(19:23):
If you do not want to do any ofthat even though some of this a
lot of business owners don'tlike to do, I mean, let's face
it, we like to do what we'reoffering.
We like that service or product.
That's what we wish we could doall the time.
The difference between a hobbyand a business is more of the
time now you're spending onbusiness.
I mean we'd like to get thatdown to very little and have a
very streamlined, efficientbusiness.
But in the beginning you'reworking more on the business

(19:45):
stuff than you are on the actualpart that you love, and you
have to be okay with that for alittle while and then that will
slowly diminish and you willhave more time to be able to do
what you want to do and you hirepeople, or you have better
systems and structures, right, okay, so do you want to learn
new things?
If you really don't, if youjust want to learn about what

(20:06):
you're offering, like gettingbetter at art or making
something or creating somethingor what to say better to help
people, then you can just stickwith a hobby and use your brain
for more things.
The business ownership isamazing.
I told y'all before that mydaughter and I are kind of

(20:28):
resurrecting the online giftboutique called
InThisVeryRoomcom that I had for16 years and we are
resurrecting it in a very microway and I don't even know if
that's real a micro business,but that's what I'm calling it
because that term micro has beenthrown around so much right now
in the health industry and allthat, but it's a micro business,

(20:52):
very small.
She's going to have a veryselect offering.
She's already, like, picked outsome stuff she wants to sell
and I told her, because of theobliging mother that I am, that
I would help her with the backend and like business side.
But she's picking out productsand she's already been telling
me like.
She went to a boutique theother day and was like, oh my
gosh, my world has opened up,like I had no idea.

(21:12):
She was looking at pricing, shewas thinking about things, how
they had it displayed, all thestuff.
And I'm like, yeah, isn't itamazing what you're learning and
how this?
You have a different view nowof like retail and and gifting
and products and style and allthat stuff.
And she's like, yeah, that'swhat happens to you when you're
a business owner.
It's kind of like, too, ifyou've become a Christian or

(21:35):
maybe whatever faith you do have, where your world opens up and
you start learning aboutsomething and you're like I had
no idea, and how amazing is this?
Right, that's what businessownership can mean to you.
It's this whole world thatopens up that.
You're like it's like Narnia.
You open up that door out ofthat bedroom and you're like,
what just happened?

(21:56):
I'm learning about all this.
What a cool experience.
You're just expanding who youare.
But if you don't want that, it'sokay.
Give yourself grace, giveyourself permission to just have
a hobby.
But if you do want that, youwant to build a career doing
what you love.
You want to use your creativebrain, you want to expand your

(22:16):
thinking and learn a whole newworld and be bad at it.
It's like when you ride a bike, you're bad at it.
First time when you startcooking, you know you're bad at
it.
It you're bad at it.
First time when you startcooking, you know you're bad at
it.
It's like when my husband and Istarted playing pickleball, my
husband had never played like aracket sport and so he was like,
okay, you know he playedbaseball and so sometimes he
would hit it like completely outof our entire court.

(22:36):
I'm like that was a home run, like what is happening right now
.
And then I played tennis inhigh school, so I have tennis,
you know strokes that I do,which do some of them do not
translate to pickleball.
So I'm having to hone my skillsand learn the scoring and how
it's different.
And we were not great when westarted and we had to play with
people that were better than usand we were embarrassed and we

(22:56):
would thank people for playingwith us and helping us and
teaching us.
And now it's kind of flippedwhere now we're going along and
there's new people coming in whodon't know all that and they're
thanking us and we can see howfar we've come.
This is what will happen withyou.
A whole new world opens up,you're learning a new skill and
it's amazing what your brain cando.

(23:17):
I think it's awesome.
It gives you a whole newpurpose in your life, a whole
new purpose.
Okay, but if you don't wantthat, I don't blame you.
You may just want to have thisfun, therapeutic hobby, but you
have to decide.
You have to decide, okay.
So number one was you have to.
The one good reason why not tohave a business is if you

(23:38):
actually really do just want ahobby.
And number two you you know agood reason not to have a
business you don't really wantto learn new things.
You don't have time to do that, you don't want to take that on,
you don't want any more stress.
You don't want that, it's okay.
But but that would be a goodreason to just have a hobby and
not a business.
And the third reason is youdon't believe that what you want

(23:58):
to offer a product or serviceactually makes a difference for
people.
Product or service actuallymakes a difference for people.
If you do not believe that, youdo not need to be in business
Now, if you're in business rightnow and you're thinking, uh-oh,
I have something that I offerand I don't know that it

(24:20):
actually makes a difference, then I think you need to revisit
that offer.
Maybe there's something withinthis realm that you could tweak
and this is again for a wholenother conversation.
But I just want to speak tothose of you that are listening
right now that already havebusinesses and you don't believe
in it.
Why don't you believe in it?
Maybe you should do that foryour homework today.
Why don't you believe in it?

(24:41):
Okay, and if you have somethingthat you know can help people
but it still doesn't settleright with you, like you don't
feel totally proud of it andyou're not like this is a slam
dunk offer, let's talk about itin coaching.
I think we can work on it, workon your pricing, how you're
structuring it and like, let'sget you proud of this offer so
that you feel confident showingup.

(25:02):
You can scroll down in the shownotes, contact me in the form
down below, tell me a little bitabout your offer and what it is
, and I can reply back and thensee if something I can help you
with or not, right.
But if you don't believe in itand you haven't started your
business yet, you need to refineit so that you believe in it
Again if it's a service productprogram in it.

(25:27):
Again, if it's a service,product, program, coaching,
consulting, I don't care what itis.
You need to actually believethat it's good, because if you
don't believe it's good, how areyou ever going to get out there
and, honestly and full ofintegrity, show up and try to
get other people to pay theirhard-earned money for what you
offer?
You have to believe in itwholeheartedly and this is a

(25:52):
good reason not to start abusiness yet if you don't
believe in it and maybe it'sjust a hobby and you could tweak
it a little bit or you couldbegin the process of business
ownership and get coaching orget a mentor and get help so
that you feel solid in it.
Because my guess is that youactually do, because most of you
have used or wanted to use theproduct or service that you

(26:14):
offer and you made it a certainway on purpose, because you saw
a gap somewhere, whether it bepricing, offering style, color,
anything.
You wanted it to be moreaccessible, a more bespoke
approach, whatever.
It is right, like you actuallydo believe in it, but maybe you
just don't feel confident yetbecause it's not completely

(26:38):
ready and if you've been stuckin that situation for a while
where you don't feel it likeyou're not feeling aligned,
because usually that's what itis Something's not aligned your
pricing or like you're notfeeling aligned because usually
that's what it is, something'snot aligned your pricing or how
you're offering it.
If that's you, again that'ssomething I can help you with
and you can contact me downbelow.
But you need to have it to apoint where you feel totally

(26:59):
solid, like I know this willhelp the right person.
If you know the right personcame along, you'll be like yes,
this 100%, this person willabsolutely love this.
Then that's a great reason tostart a business.
Because if you don't believe it,then I think it needs to remain
a hobby or it needs to berevisited, repackaged, all of

(27:21):
that.
Is this making sense?
I think all of you do believein what you offer.
You just maybe have been scaredto put yourself out there,
whether it's to say I've starteda business, or put yourself out
there to try to quote, sell itor market it right.

(27:42):
So that's kind of the line inthe sand, like.
If you do believe that it helpspeople, why would you be
holding back?
Why would you not be gettingthis into the hands of more
people?
And a business allows you to dothat, to get it in the hands of
people who will love it and beso thankful that you had the

(28:04):
nerve to do this, that youshowed up.
You started a business out ofyour comfort zone, using your
God-given gifts, because you hadfaith that you could be used
for greater.
And you did it.
And you went through the bumpsand you went through the
struggles and you went throughthe hardships and you had to
learn more and you had tostretch yourself, put yourself
out there and all that.
People will be so thankful thatyou did that and you showed up.

(28:29):
Okay, so let's recap this Threegood reasons to have a hobby
instead of a business.
One you actually do, just wanta hobby.
You don't want all the stressof what comes with a business,
because there is stress thatcomes with it.
Number two you don't want tolearn new things.
You don't want to expand, youdon't have time, you don't have
any brain space left.
You're like I just need toescape and I want to do this
hobby.
And number three you don'tactually believe in what you

(28:49):
want to offer.
You don't actually believe init.
So let's reverse that For thoseof you that are sitting here
going.
Oh wait, maybe I do want tostart a business.
You actually do want a business.
You want a career that isfulfilling, that allows you to
use your God-given gifts forgreater.
That you do want to learn newthings, you want to take on new
skills.
You want to expand yourhorizons, you want to become

(29:11):
something more than you aretoday.
You want to live a morepurposeful life.
And, number three, that youactually believe in what you
sell and you know that peoplecould benefit from it and if
they knew that it was available, they'd happily pay for it.
If this is you, it's time to getmoving.
If you are in the early stageof your business, again I have
free and paid offers to help youget your business going.
