SPEAKER_00 (00:03):
Well, hello, friends.
This is Kimberly.
I am so excited that you'rehere.
It's episode 323.
We're going to talk about howentrepreneurship really changes
you as a person in the mostawesome way possible, whether
your business succeeds or not.
This episode is so encouragingbecause what you are doing is
really becoming the best versionof yourself.

(00:24):
So we're going to talk aboutthat today.
If you're new here, make sureyou scroll down in the show
notes, get all the free goodies, everything that's going to help
you, whether you're startingyour business now, whether
you're growing it, whetheryou're starting a podcast.
I have free resources and don'tlet free fool you on these.
These are valuable.
People love them.
You can print them out.
Um, some of them, they'remasterclasses, just whatever you
need.
I want you to grab them now sothat you don't struggle at all

(00:47):
on this journey.
And if you've been listening awhile, thank you so much to all
my loyal listeners.
I'm so happy that you're here.
I'm so happy you're pursuingyour dream.
And I couldn't be more excitedfor you.
Okay, on to the episode.

SPEAKER_01 (01:05):
Well, hello, friends.
I'm so excited you're heretoday.

SPEAKER_00 (01:08):
I thought this topic would be so motivating and
inspiring for you to help yourealize that entrepreneurship is
really a journey about becomingso much more than you are today.
And again, like I said at thevery beginning, whether your
business succeeds or not, because you may run this for
five years and then be like, youknow what, it's not for me, or I

(01:30):
don't want to do this, or I wantto change the type of business.
Whether it succeeds or not, youstill get the same result and
you do become a differentperson.
And that was one of the thingsthat I love about it.
And I want to talk about thattoday.
Um, it helps you and it helpsyou to see this bigger picture
sometimes because I think we getcaught up in all of the
rigmarole of the daily andweekly grind of business

(01:53):
ownership.
And we also get caught up likein all the fun stuff, but
sometimes we miss the forest forthe trees.
And so that's why I'm excited toshare these with you today.
And I'm so proud of all of youfor pursuing your dream.
I know this is a tough journey,but it's such a fun one.
And there's so many great thingsthat come out of it.
So the first thing I wanted totalk about today was that how

(02:16):
how entrepreneurship reallybuilds, you may not be expecting
this, but builds your emotionalintelligence.
And we talk about EQ.
I don't know if you've heard theterm EQ, but people say that
instead of like IQ, but it's EQ,EQ, your emotional intelligence.
And you may know people thathave a low EQ.

(02:37):
Like they just are notemotionally stable or they're
volatile.
They don't know how to handlewhen stressors come.
I mean, I think we all have ourmoments where we're not our best
emotionally, but you know thosepeople that completely overreact
or completely are out of line.
And business ownership actuallyhelps you tame that because you

(03:02):
have to keep your cool in a lotof situations, especially when
you when you're dealing withclients.
Now, there may be some things onthe back end where you have to
really talk sternly to employeesor contractors or people that
are working for you.
And you're like, listen, thesethings have to change.
But it does help you gain somematurity and emotional

(03:24):
intelligence in your everydaylife of like who you're dealing
with and what's going on.
For example, I was thinkingabout just dealing with
customers.
Like you have to know how to bemature when you're dealing with
them.
You can't just fly off thehandle.
You can't scream at them thatthey're wrong.
Like you have to try tonegotiate or you have to try to

(03:46):
calm them down, or you um alsohave to be excited for them.
Like when they're gettingsomething, you want to, you want
to be warm about the sale.
You want to be as excited asthey are, because you have to
remember people are new, if theyare new to your product or
service.
They're excited about what'shappening, right?

(04:07):
So there's a lot of things thatgo into the emotional
intelligence, but I can say thisfor sure: like making your
business decisions.
You have to make decisions notbased on emotion.
You have to do it for thebusiness and what's right.
And that can be hard.
And you'll find yourselfsometimes making emotional
decisions and you realize lateryou shouldn't have done that.
Just like me, when I had myonline gift boutiques and I

(04:28):
would buy inventory and I'd getemotionally tied to these
products.
Like I was so excited and Iwould buy too much.
And then also when some of thethings didn't sell, I wouldn't
put them on sale soon enough.
I wouldn't do things to get ridof them because it was
emotionally tied to them.
And I started realizing overtime, I can't be like that if I
want to run a successfulbusiness, right?
So it helps tweak that part ofyour brain, which is good.

(04:52):
It also helps you, as I said, with vendors and contractors,
people that work for you, thatyou have to be mature and like
you're the boss here.
You don't have a boss above you.
You are the boss.
And so you have to learn how tohandle things, um, issues with
customer if you send them thewrong thing or they're not
happy, or maybe theymisunderstood something, and you

(05:12):
have to be mature andemotionally stable enough to be
able to explain things and notbe rude or mean because in
today's world, too, people cango online and say stuff, they
can tell their friends, um, andyou can get bad and mouth pretty
quick.
So you want to always handlethings in the most mature way
possible.
And then there's just ups anddowns of business, and you start

(05:33):
learning year after year, likeit's not totally personal about
your business having ups anddowns.
It's the nature of business.
You have to adapt to newmarkets.
Maybe you lose an employee, maybe something you were selling
isn't popular anymore, and youjust have struggles or you have
to move locations or things likethat.

(05:54):
Stuff can happen, right?
COVID comes and hurts yourbusiness.
There are so many things thatcan happen, but you start kind
of building a little bit ofemotional resilience.
Okay, I'm not going to say itgets rid of your emotions
because it shouldn't.
You're a human, but it does giveyou more strength when it comes
to your emotions and it reallyhelps develop your emotional,

(06:14):
your emotional intelligence.
So I'm sure you can think aboutthat right now.
Like since you've started yourbusiness, if you have started
and where you are today, don'tyou feel like that you've gained
some type of insight, like notto be so freaked out by things
or scared by things or upset bythings.
You learn that these things canhappen.

(06:35):
Does that make sense?
I think for those of you thathave been in business a while,
you know what I'm saying.
If you're new to business, justknow this, that it will test
you.
It will test your emotions.
And the good news is you willbecome a better person because
of it, because you will be ableto handle emotional situations
in a much, much more structuredand mature way.

(06:58):
So I think that's really coolabout business ownership is that
it helps build, helps to buildyour emotional intelligence.
The second thing that I thinkthat it does for you that really
changes you as a person is itforces personal responsibility.
Even though you have a business, you have a personal
responsibility to be present allthe time.

(07:20):
Like you really do.
In the beginning, you you arepresent.
You are the face of thebusiness.
A lot of the times we don't havethe luxury of having other
people that are just aspassionate about it as we are
running our businesses for us.
Like a lot of times you can'tafford it.
So you are the face of it.
And you have a lot of personalresponsibility, like to deliver
goods on times, on time and asdescribed, right?

(07:43):
If you're offering a service, you've got to show up.
You've got to communicate withpeople, you've got to deliver.
If you have a product, you'vegot to have it as pictured, has
it as shown, has it as, youknow, have it as described.
You have to have these productsand services in a way that are

(08:04):
exactly what you showed ahead oftime, what the people are
expecting to get.
And that's the personalresponsibility.
So it does force this personalresponsibility.
You can't put it off on anotheremployee.
You can't, you know, like whenyou work for someone else, you
can maybe see if someone elsecan do it, try to get another
type of employee to do it.

(08:24):
You are responsible.
The buck stops with you, right?
And so even with yourfinancials, you have a personal
responsibility to be honestabout those financials and to
actually take care of thefinancial side.
You can't just ignore it.
I think sometimes we we'd loveto ignore the financial side and
all of that, but in reality, youcan't always do that.

(08:48):
You have to be responsible.
The buck has to stop with you.
No more putting it off.
And I think there's somethingreally empowering about that and
really cool about that when youown your own business, is that
you learn how to takeresponsibility.
And I'll be honest with you, some people don't love it and
they want to go back to thecorporate world or having a boss

(09:10):
because they don't want theresponsibility.
But if you end up being alongtime entrepreneur, you get
used to it.
And you get used to being thehead honcho and the person
that's ultimately responsible,and it's empowering.
And it's really cool that youcan develop into that kind of
person.
Okay.
So I think that's amazing.
So the first one we said itbuilds emotional intelligence.

(09:33):
The second one is said it forcespersonal responsibility.
And the third one is that Ibelieve business ownership and
entrepreneurship help you becomemore of who God intended.
And that doesn't mean that yourbusiness succeeds.
I know you're probably like,what?

(09:53):
What are you saying?
I'm just saying the process ofdreaming up a business, learning
about business, starting abusiness, trying to build a
business, I truly believe ithelps you become more of who God
intended you to be.
And let me defend that.
Because again, your businesscould fail and you're saying,

(10:14):
well, God intended me to have afailed business.
Not necessarily.
Or maybe he allowed you to startthis so that you did learn
lessons and you didn't keepdreaming about it and you
realize that it maybe wasn't foryou.
Does that make sense?
It's like it's a win either way.
You know, it also helps you tohave more purpose in your life.

(10:36):
I think a lot of you have toldme that you started your
business because you wanted tohave a career that was more
purposeful, more impactful.
And so, how cool is that?
Because God loves it when youuse your gifts that He has given
you, right?
And entrepreneurship a lot oftimes lets you do that.
Maybe you're a maker, maybe youare good at public speaking,

(10:59):
maybe you're good at designing.
It could be anything, whateveryour business is, right?
You have some type of gift andyou know it.
And I know that a lot of times, you know, we're we're not trying
to be braggy about our gifts, but we just feel it in our soul.
And that's what this is.
This is you using your gifts forentrepreneurship, right?

(11:21):
So you are becoming more of whoGod intended by following your
dreams and and going for it andseeing if it's right for you for
experiencing all that you canexperience, right?
Um, also for having a higherpurpose than maybe just doing a
job that you don't love.
Maybe you can have a creativeoutlet, you can do something

(11:44):
that's impactful, that actuallymakes a difference, even if it's
in small ways, right?
It can be in small ways or bigways.
And I think that it even helpsyou just develop yourself as a
whole.
Like you literally are becominga more well-rounded person.

(12:05):
Like God gave you a brain, Godgave you these dreams, God gave
you these gifts, he gave youintelligence, and you are
expanding on all your knowledge.
Like, think about how much youhave learned, even just if you
are investigating starting abusiness right now.
If you don't even have abusiness, your brain has been

(12:26):
expanded because you've beenlearning all these new things.
And then as you move along inbusiness, your brain, like I
literally feel like my brain hasgrown.
Now, maybe it hasn't, maybe it'sjust filling in all the empty
space that we have a lot of thatwe don't tap into, that we don't
use.
I don't really totallyunderstand how the brain works,
but I know that we can make newneural connections and we can

(12:50):
expand our knowledge andentrepreneurship is helping you
do that.
So, to me, that is all part ofthe bigger picture that business
ownership and entrepreneurshipis actually building you into
the person that God intended youto be.
And I think that is so cool thatyou're not just sitting around

(13:13):
watching Netflix all day.
You're actually trying to dosomething more with your not
your life.
And maybe you don't even havethe greatest circumstances.
Maybe you don't have a lot ofmoney.
Maybe you've had a financialsituation or a marriage
situation, or you've had somehard times, but you're still
going for it.

(13:33):
That to me is what God intendedfor you to use your gifts, use
your brain, use your desires tobe something more, do something
more, and learn something more.
So, as y'all can see today, entrepreneurship isn't just
about selling a product orselling a service.
It's about you becoming more ofthe person you were intended to

(13:59):
be.
And that's by expanding andbuilding your emotional
intelligence, we said, numberone.
Number two, teaching you morepersonal responsibility.
And number three, using yourgifts and becoming more of who
God intended you to be.
I think that's so cool.
And I'm so excited for you.
