SPEAKER_00 (01:17):
One day, three little kids named Esther, Eliza,
and Evie were all sitting intheir front yard.
Now, they had decided that theywere going to try and sell some
of their toys.
So they'd set up a bit of a yardsale in the front yard.
They had a few things out thefront that they were getting
ready to try and sell.
Do you think anybody will come?
said Esther.
I don't know, said Eliza.
We'll just have to wait and see.

(01:39):
I hope so, said Evie.
It'd be fun to sell some ofthese old toys.
Just then they heard a funnynoise coming from around behind
the house.
Come back here! I'm meant to beeating you.
Come here.
What was that?
said Esther.
I I don't know, said Eliza.
Let's go look.
So the kids went round the backof the house to see what was

(02:00):
going on.
And there in their backyard wasa panda.
And he was running aroundchasing something.
Come back here.
I'm meant to be eating you.
You're not meant to be able tofly.
What's going on?
said Evie.
Oh, hello, said the panda.
Who who are you?
said Eliza.
I'm Panda Pete, said Panda Pete.

(02:21):
And this is meant to be mylunch.
What?
said Eliza.
Well, see this piece of bamboo?
The girls looked up.
And above Panda Pete was a pieceof flying bamboo.
Well, I was meant to eat him.
I watched him grow out of theground, and I saw him get very,
very big, and I thought, ooh, lunch right here.
And so I chopped him down, butas soon as I chopped it down, it

(02:42):
took off into the air.
And now I'm really hungry, but Icannot catch this piece of
flying bamboo.
Do you think you kids can helpme?
Um maybe, said Eliza, as theylooked up at the flying bamboo.
I've never seen flying bamboobefore, said Esther.
Me either, said Panda Pete.
But it's a lot of fun.
I'm sure if we eat it, it willbe extra tasty.

(03:02):
I don't really want to eatbamboo, said Evie.
Well, can you at least help mecatch it?
Um, okay, said the kids.
How are we going to catch flyingbamboo?
said Evie.
Uh, I don't know, said PandaPete.
I think we're going to need somehelp.
Maybe some of our toys mighthelp, said Eliza.
Oh, I like toys, said PandaPete.

(03:23):
Let's go look! So, the kids andPanda Pete raced around to the
front yard where the girls hadset up the yard sale.
Hooray! These look like allkinds of fun.
Alright, I will take this one,and I like the car, and I'm
gonna start driving that overhere.
Panda Pete, said Eliza.
Uh, yes?
Aren't we trying to catch yourbamboo?
Oh yes! I forgot about that.

(03:45):
Ha ha, okay.
Well, maybe we should.
I actually have no idea.
What about this one over here?
said Evie, as she pulled out thenet that the kids used to use
for catching bugs.
Hooray! That will work! Let's goget my bamboo, said Panda Pete.
The kids and Panda Pete racedback around to the backyard.
Panda Pete was holding onto thenet.
Hooray! Come here, bamboo! I'mgoing to eat you! He started

(04:08):
running around the backyard, jumping and swinging the net
wildly.
The piece of bamboo kept flyingover the top of his head.
Until eventually, I got it!yelled Panda Pete.
The kids cheered.
Hooray! Uh-oh, said Panda Pete.
He didn't think about the factthat the bamboo might be able
to.
It's lifting me off the ground!Somebody help! yelled Panda

(04:30):
Pete.
The kids were laughing as aflying bamboo was flying around
a flying panda who was holdingonto a bug net.
I don't know what to do! I needmore help! It's getting too
high.
Um, um, help, yelled Panda Pete.
Quick, we better get somethingunderneath him that he can fall
on that won't be asuncomfortable.
Let's grab our stuffed toys, said Eliza.

(04:51):
Good idea, said Evie.
So the kids raced around thefront yard again and started
collecting the stuffed toys thatthey had prepared for the yard
sale.
They piled them up in one bigpile in the backyard.
Panda Pete, let go when you'reover the top of the toys.
Okay, said Panda Pete.
So he held on and held on untilthe bamboo flew him over the top
of the toys and he let go.

(05:16):
That was amazing! Let's do itagain, let's do it again! Panda
Pete started running around thebackyard again, swinging the net
wildly.
I'm gonna catch you, Bamboo!Until he hooked it once more.
Yippee, he said, as it startedflying him around through the
sky.
But this time something was alittle bit different.
Come on, bamboo! Faster! Faster!yelled Panda Pete.

(05:39):
But the bamboo was slowing down.
I think it's getting tired, saidPanda Pete, as it slowly lowered
him towards the ground.
Um, what do I do now?
said Panda Pete, holding ontothe net next to the piece of
bamboo that was no longerflying.
Well, weren't you gonna eat it?
said Esther.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that.

(05:59):
Hang on! He picked up the pieceof bamboo and started to munch.
Oh my goodness, this is the mostdelicious bamboo I have ever
tasted! Would you like to trysome?
Um, we don't really eat bamboo, said Evie.
You should.
It's very good for you.
Lots of fiber, and very, verytasty, and sometimes it flies.
Well, it doesn't normally fly, does it?

(06:20):
said Eliza.
No.
But I'm going back to where Ifound this piece, and we'll see
what else we can get.
Maybe do you kids want to come?
Um okay, said the kids.
So Panda Pete took them out theback gate and they started
running down this alleyway, which led around a corner to a
strange, shimmering patch ofdirt.
This is where you found thepiece of bamboo, said Esther.

(06:42):
It is, said Panda Pete.
I was sitting here thinkingabout bamboo, and then all of a
sudden a piece of bamboo grewout of the ground.
What?
said Evie.
That's really strange.
Let's see if it happens again.
Panda Pete stood next to thepiece of dirt.
Hmm, he said, as he started tothink about how hungry he was,
and some more bamboo.
Actually, I remember something,he said.

(07:04):
What's that?
said Eliza.
I was also thinking aboutflying.
I love planes, and I wasthinking about maybe one day I
could fly on top of a plane.
On top of a plane, said Evie.
Yeah, that's what I was thinkingabout when all of a sudden more
bamboo began to grow out of theground.
It's working, said Panda Pete.
As it grew and grew and grew, hecut a piece off and It's flying

(07:27):
again! I wonder, said Esther.
Panda Pete, can you try andthink about bamboo again?
But this time instead of flying, try and think of something
different.
Um, okay, said Panda Pete.
So he sat and he thought, hmm.
And more bamboo began to grow.
It's working, said Eliza.
What do we do now?

(07:47):
said Evie.
I guess we cut it, said Esther.
Okay, said Eliza, I will.
And Eliza cut the piece ofbamboo off the ground.
It didn't fly this time.
It just stayed still.
Evie picked it up.
Panda Pete, what were you P Allof a sudden, the bamboo exploded
in her hand.
What were you thinking about,Panda Pete?

(08:08):
I was thinking about partypuppers! And as they looked,
they realized that it hadexploded into confetti.
Panda Pete, that's ridiculous!Hmm, I wonder what else I could
think of.
Maybe instead of just flying, wecould make them into something.
Make them into something, saidEsther.
Hold on, said Panda Pete.
And he started to think next tothe patch of dirt once more.

(08:30):
Hmm.
This time, four shoots of bamboogrew up out of the ground.
Cut them all off, said PandaPete.
Are they gonna explode thistime?
said Evie.
No, said Panda Pete.
I don't think so.
You don't think so, said Esther.
Um, I'm pretty sure they won't.
Just cut them off.
So Esther cut the four pieces ofbamboo, and she was very

(08:51):
nervous.
She stood back and watched.
Luckily, they didn't explode.
Instead, they grew little wheelson the side.
What are they?
said Evie.
Stand on them and see, saidPanda Pete.
He jumped on one of the piecesof bamboo and he started skating
off down the street.
They're like little bambooskateboards, said Eliza.

(09:13):
I'm coming too, said Evie, asshe jumped on hers.
Whoa! It it has its own power.
It's like it's driving itself.
Me too, said Esther.
I'm coming.
Wait for me, said Eliza.
And in no time, there were threekids skating along the street
with bamboo skateboards, chasinga panda who was also on a bamboo
skateboard.
Um, I wonder what tricks we cando, said Panda Pete.

(09:35):
He rolled up towards the side ofthe gutter and he jumped up the
side.
Wow, did you see that jump?
I'm gonna try one too, saidEvie.
She rolled over to the otherside of the road and bumped up
over the gutter and then landedon top of a garbage bin.
Woohoo! She said.
That's amazing, said Eliza.
Let's skate back to the patch ofdirt.
I have one more amazing idea.

(09:56):
Okay, said the kids.
They turned their bambooskateboards and skated all the
way back to the patch of dirtthat had been growing the magic
bamboo.
Um, what are you gonna grow thistime?
said Esther.
Just you wait and see, saidBanderpete.
He sat down next to the dirt andthought very, very, very
carefully.
He seems like he's trying veryhard.

(10:17):
I'm trying to be careful not todo the thinking wrong, said
Panderpete.
I'm very easily distracted.
As he sat and he thought, thebamboo began to grow.
And grow and grow and grow andgrow.
This time, the bamboo wasreally, really long.
Okay, I think it's ready, saidPanderpete.

(10:40):
Okay, said the kids.
They looked.
Um, maybe you should cut it thistime, said Esther.
Okay, said Panda Pete.
He cut the pieces of bamboo.
There was two for each of them.
What is this?
said Eliza.
They are bamboo stilts.
But not just any kind of bamboostilts.
Jump on and see.
So the kids climbed onto thebamboo stilts, and all of a

(11:03):
sudden they were all taller thanthe houses.
They could see for ages.
This is incredible, said Esther.
Amazing, said Eliza.
Now wait for it, said PandaPete.
I'm pretty sure I didn't getdistracted at all.
So we should be able to use thebutton on the top to make them
extend a little bit higher, butonly a little bit.

(11:24):
Okay, said the kids.
Let's give it a go.
So, they decided that they wouldall press the button together on
the count of three and get alittle bit higher so that they
could see over the next house.
Alright, ready?
One, two, three.
Or maybe I was thinking aboutrockets.
What?
said the kids.
The stilts started to blast upinto the sky.

(11:45):
Panda Pete! What did you do?
I really like rockets, saidPanda Pete.
The kids held on as tightly asthey could as their giant bamboo
stilts started blasting withrockets and flying them all over
the neighborhood.
WHAAH! They yelled as theyzoomed over the top of houses
and flew over the top of cars.
People from the neighborhoodwere so amazed they came out of

(12:08):
their houses to see what wasgoing on.
They started following theflying bamboo stilts.
Hold on, said Panda Pete.
I think we can get them backtowards the ground.
Aim for your house, yelled PandaPete.
Okay, called the kids.
And with that, they held on astightly as they could, and their
bamboo stilts flew them all theway back to the backyard.

(12:29):
Fortunately, the pile of teddieswas still there.
Let go over the teddies, saidPanda Pete.
And the kids did, one by one.
Pshew, phoo, pho, pm.
Then Panda Pete tried to land onthem as well.
Uh-oh, too late! He was about tofall onto the ground when Evie
dove across and caught him.

(12:50):
Oh, thank you, Evie.
I thought I was in big trouble.
Wow, said the kids.
That was ridiculous.
Well, I best be off, and youguys better get back to your
yard sale.
I don't know if anyone willcome, said Eliza.
Yeah, said Esther.
We haven't seen anyone allmorning.
You're the only one we've seen.
I think you should go check, said Panda Pete.
When they went back out to thefront yard, the people from the

(13:13):
neighborhood that had seen themflying over the houses had all
come to their front yard.
Hey, look, there's a yard salehere.
That looks like fun.
Oh, these toys are pretty cool.
Hey, did you guys see thatflying something zooming over
the top of all those houses?
Any idea what it was, kids?
said one of the men from downthe street.
Well, said Evie, I don't thinkyou'd believe us, even if we

(13:36):
told you.
And that is the end of thestory.
